What a difference a month makes. Maybe he'll be good, maybe he'll suck, maybe he'll be in the middle. But this is exactly why I call hogwash when people do the 'eye test' or 'when I know, I know' stuff.

It sucks for my team but I am so happy Sean McDermott and the Bills organization never took away or restricted Josh Allen's running instincts. That last TD looked so natural and decisive and the exact opposite of some QBs that look like they have been placed in a invisible electric fence and face a lifetime in jail if they dare when nothing is open and there is a gaping hole to run through.

It’s weird seeing Justin Tucker and Evan McPherson hovering around 70% accuracy this season. Those guys have been automatic for awhile now. Tucker, in particular has/has been the most accurate in history and has been missing in close games.

Although the Giants' record and Jones' play were key factors in the move, ownership and general manager Joe Schoen also had to consider that there is a $23 million injury guarantee in his contract for 2025 that becomes fully guaranteed if he gets injured and is unable to pass a physical in the offseason.

So we can expect Jones to get run over on the sidelines suffer a severe injury and end up with the guarantee anyways right?

Sometimes you draft a guy or sign a guy to an extension and for whatever reason, it does not work out. But at the time you did it, it made sense.

The weird thing about Daniel Jones is that even as the Giants were committing big money to him, we all knew that he wasn't worth it. The podcasts at the time were all talking about how this was going to cripple the Giants.

Agreed. The right call was always franchise tag him instead of giving him the extension. It's, also, not a great look to spend $5M on a back-up QB in Drew Lock and then go with Tommy Cutlets.

Joe Schoen has not been a great GM.

Agreed. Remember watching the offseason Hard Knocks where they were talking about the data driven decisions they made in the front office and wondering if the people saying that to the camera actually believed it or how they could keep a straight face given what they’d done the year before.

This is not hindsight. 99% of football fans and pundits would have put their house on this ending exactly like this

You’d think that teams will now stop committing big money to poor to awful QBs just based off one decent season and a perceived ceiling of making it to the playoffs and getting lucky to win a few games, but it’s possible a lot of these guys just aren’t very good at this.

The Jones signing was also weird because no one in the league was going to pay him anywhere near that amount.

He is a little old man. There is very little distinguishing him from his dad at this point. The glasses, his aging face, and the mouth hanging open all scream "old man!" to me. He seems to have aged pretty quickly over the past few years.

Yikes. He was my classmate at one point in junior high. I hope people don't see me that way these days.

He does. I had honestly forgotten that he's the younger brother between him and John, as John still looks largely the same to me. Yeah, a bit older, but not enough that it's really registered.

Thinking about Daniel Jones finally being declared a failure, makes me think about who will be in the market for QBs in the draft next year.

I've got them categorized like this (assuming teams don't go 1st round QB in back to back years):

Need a QB:
Cleveland - Need to do something or embrace a rebuild and start piecing out the stars for picks and youth. Gambled and lost.
Carolina - Back to the drawing board.
Las Vegas - 2nd straight year they have been in need.
New York Giants - Back to the drawing board.

Maybe/Maybe Not?:
Indianapolis/Tennessee - Levis is old and bad. Richardson is young and bad. Richardson probably has a longer leash, since he was drafted earlier and is 3-years younger, but neither of them seem to be developing despite a decent amount of playing time and two years worth of camps.
New Orleans - I think Carr, Hill, and Rattler are all NFL QBs and would have other jobs if they were available, but the NFC South seems like the most "there for the taking" division in the NFL and this regime doesn't seem to be able to take it. Probably a coaching change?
New York Jets - Rodgers presumably can stay for another year or two, if he'd like. But they are going to have to undergo a rebuild at some point and I don't think a veteran coach is going to light a fire there.
Pittsburgh - I don't think they have any QBs under contract past this year. Wilson and Fields have done enough to keep games close, but also enough to remind you why they were available. Yesterday, Wilson threw the pick in the end zone where a FG would have put them up by 8 and Fields came in on a gadget play and, with no one around him, slid a yard before getting the first down that would have iced the game (they got the 1st down on a 3rd and short, but if they would have had to punt, they could have lost on a FG). Still better than Pickett/Trubisky.

I assume some of Minshew, Wilson, Fields, and the young guys will reshuffle to new teams.

Here's what's crazy with this whole situation: They aren't playing Lock because he has playing time incentives that could increase his cap number. So here's basically what the Giants did:
1. Say "No" to Saquan on matching a bid $5 mil higher per year.
2. Sign Drew Lock to a $5 mil deal to be the backup
3. When it's time to play a backup for Jones, go to DeVito (who was already on the team prior) and not play Lock because of his contract.

So what again did the Giants sign Lock and not just pay Saquan?

AFC East:
Buffalo's set, Miami would be set if not for concussion fears, New England has to see if Maye will develop, the Jets are in trouble - Rodgers looks done. But Favre had one decent year after he looked done.

AFC North:
Baltimore and Cincinnati are set, Cleveland is a complete and total mess, but they probably have to give Watson another shot because they can't release him, Pittsburgh - Wilson looks OK, but he's old and he's going to want real money, Fields is still Taysom Hill Jr., they have to do something.

AFC South:
Jacksonville probably has to ride with Lawrence, hope he improves, Indianapolis the same with Richardson - will he ever mature and find consistency, he gets another year, Houston is set, but has to be concerned with Stroud's sophomore slump, Tennessee needs someone - Levis is barely backup quality.

AFC West:
Denver sticks with Nix, but I'm still a skeptic even after a remarkable outing yesterday, Kansas City and the Chargers are set, Las Vegas needs someone, as Minshew is a backup and O'Connell probably won't stick in the league.

NFC East:
Washington and Philadelphia are set, Dallas will stick with Prescott next year, and hope his struggles were not the sign of decline, the Giants need someone and are already tanking to try and get him.

NFC North:
Everyone seems set. With Minnesota, Darnold has shown he can be a good backup and they have to see if McCarthy can start.

NFC South:
New Orleans and Atlanta are in similar spots - veterans who are still pretty good, but you'd like to see more, both have rookies, though Rattler was pretty bad in his starts and might not be worth keeping even as a backup, Carolina probably has to start over, but I think they'll consider giving Young another year, though he has not shown he belongs in the league, Tampa Bay is probably set - Mayfield is at least an average starter, and he still has some upside.

NFC West:
Arizona is set - Murray has taken the next step, and I think they might surprise some people, even this year, San Francisco is set, Seattle seems to be content with an aging average-minus starter who still gives them a chance to lose in the first round of the playoffs, the Rams are going to have to deal with Stafford aging rapidly - they need youth, and Ol' Stetson is not it.

I see the Jets, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Las Vegas, the Giants and the Rams all very much wanting to find a guy in the first round next year. There are six guys who might have grades as high as the first round, but in reality, at least three of them aren't that close. Of the expected backups with potential available, the two I wonder most about are Drew Lock (Giants, who won't get a look because he has some big incentives and the Giants are going to tank) and Jarrett Stidham (Broncos, who needs to show he can avoid being a turnover machine).
