And 4 teams have the last 7 D2 titles (and only one game in the last 8 years decided by less than double-digits) And 3 teams have the last FOURTEEN D3 titles. (with only five different teams even appearing the title game over that span) It's almost as fucking ridiculous to have an expanded playoff in D3 as it would be in D1. edit to add: The last D3 title game to not have at least one of the two current dominant programs involved? 1999.

based on these 'playoff' games, they don't need to expand it
THEY SHOULD REMOVE IT AND HAVE ONE NATL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME like old times.

Expanding the playoff to create even greater mismatches is not the answer.

Bring on UCF! They should come on at halftime and play the second half with the game at 0-0.

Georgia was one of the 4 best teams and proved they could play with Bama but we just had to let Oklahoma and ND in because they "earned it" and now we're stuck with these shit games. Time to scrap the playoff committee.

OU was one of the 4 best teams in the country too. Alabama is a lot better than everyone else this year, but a 1 month layoff tends to create shitshow bowl games. |

Not as long as they're coached by Chief FakeAKick. They're exactly where they belong, though not necessarily through the fault of the players.

Well, UCF has already wrapped up another championship season with their 72-0 demolition of Clemson. Yesterday's parade was another triumphant coronation.

Bama should have to beat 4 top 8 teams in 4 quarters, in the same game. They start fresh each quarter with a 0-0 score , and they have to win all 4 games to advance.

If by "they" you mean the various powers that be, then that's easy: go back to a two-team playoff format (at most)

So, what, replace the playoff with a random draw each year? Just to get different teams? I mean, I'm looking at the state champs in Georgia HS football this year. We've got: a 4x in a row winner, a 2x in a row & 3 of last 4 winner, a 2x of last 3 winner, a 2x in a row winner who has beaten the previous 2x in a row winner the past two seasons a 2x in a row winner and a runner-up that's been to 4 of the last 5 title games (winning 2) (coming from 24-32 team fields in their respective classification)

Im not sure what you are after??? The two best teams all season long are playing for the National Championship. Isnt that what people want? I think bama is a notch above them but it should atleast be competitive unlike todays matchups. |

Paul Johnson still had my favorite comment in the film room. Mack Brown talked about how he wishes he would have let his backup QB's throw more when they were winning blow-outs, and said it wasn't fair to them.

Bingo.. the two best teams are probably there.. Bama for sure possibly a Georgia vs Clemson game would have been a good one but I won't argue with these two teams. I'm just tired of these two teams. I'll watch because I'm a college FB fan, I just wish there was more intrigue. |

This. It isn't that I feel these teams aren't deserving, I just want other teams to get better and contend. I also think Oklahoma showed they belonged. ND showed they did not. |

Yep. No question whatsoever that Alabama and Clemson are the two best teams and entirely deserving. It's just fatigue at the situation and the fact those two programs are so clearly above everyone else. I mean, maybe Georgia can break into this tier with the way Smart has recruited, and it's possible if Day is as good of a coach as Meyer that Ohio State can contend here and there, but as long as Saban is at Alabama and Swinney is at Clemson, those two programs will dominate the sport. That's fine and dandy for college football fans in the south, but it's going to lead to serious fatigue elsewhere in the country. And I'm not really sure a great way to remedy that, as there are fundamental reasons tilting the sport in favor of the south. |

In pro sports we have cap restrictions and luxury taxes.. but in college sports all we have is recruiting and teams like Bama and Clemson (you can include other teams here too, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio St, etc.. but to a lesser extent) are always at the top. Same with college basketball, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas (Villanova, Louisville). I find myself watching more NFL and less college football because of the parity and any team can win. Sure we have the Patriots, but they can be beaten and at least I know the other team has a chance. I would also say that a coach like Belichick carries more weight as a HC than someone like Saban because he's on the same set of rules the other NFL teams are bound to. Are Saban and Swinney elite coaches or do they just have the best high school players, therefore elite recruiters but average coaches? I honestly don't know of anyway to make the big college sports more interesting, other than the regular season and the variety of games available. I enjoy the season quite a bit, but come Championship time, my interest dwindles. Last edited by MizzouRah : 12-30-2018 at 12:18 PM. |

All good points, but in regard to the above I think you have to give Swinney a ton of credit as the CEO of the Clemson program. Clearly he's an outstanding recruiter, but it takes more than that to win, and you have to give him credit for the way Clemson has climbed from being a good program to an elite one.

Yeah, as I mentioned they want Holgorsen and WVU's AD isn't exactly enamored with him right now so he may be allowed to walk when his buyout drops to $1 mil on new years. Dana would probably do very, very well at Houston but acting like 8-5 seasons aren't acceptable at Houston is how to create a job no one wants. |

They were very upfront about that with Applewhite too Quote:
It got Levine fired, it got Applewhite fired. And, ya know, since Briles got them to 10 in 2006, maybe 8 isn't enough to be satisfied with. I mean, they aren't exactly playing in a powerhouse conference. Herman averaged 11 in two seasons. Sumlin averaged 9 in four seasons. Asking someone to do simply what Sumlin managed isn't the most unreasonable expectation.

I think I'm being a tad rude to them both and they both deserve credit for what they have done for both of their programs. If Missouri was a juggernaut like these two programs, I'm sure I would enjoy Championship runs every year. Hell, no doubt in my mind I would. As a fan of neither team, I prefer watching a game like UCF - LSU. |
