Yeah. There have been various discussions about it here on some video game threads. Bottom line is that many people (me included) were very concerned about the quality of the game since the company working on it, Cyanide, has pretty bad reputation. Sadly, it appears as many of those concerns were well founded. The game's barely been reviewed and the few reviews/impressions I've read have been pretty negative. The game might have a future through patches/mods, but it sounds like a bit of a dub at the moment. A waste.

My first post in this thread.
Started reading the series in August. On book 3 right now. Best book series I have ever read. Enjoying the entire story so far. I cursed today as I passed page 700 of book 3 (paperback). I had to put the book down and just walk away.

The second time you read through the chapters leading up to RW it's more chilling because there are a few things I didn't pick up on the first time through.

Maybe we need to collect some weirwoods so Martin can dictate it if he dies before the "deadline"

Nice new preview, I'm going to go against the grain and say that the next book will be on shelves no later than Winter 2013, with the logic being that Martin was kind of biding his time with Dance because he know sales would explode if the HBO series was successful. I'm betting he has a large part of this book (and maybe the rest of the series) at least mapped out in his head and will be looking to strike while the sales iron is hot.
Then again, the HBO series got me into the books and I haven't had to suffer long waits like most of you guys, so I haven't had any hopes shattered by blown deadlines yet. |

Martin has not even fired up his old computer to begin writing Winds aside from what got pushed from Dance. Took the rest of the year off aside from book signings, and even I can't honestly blame him for that. Given his love of football, I'd expect mid-February to be the absolute earliest he'll get started. For a winter 2013 release, he'd have to write the book in 18-20 months. Not happening. If things go well, late 2014 would be when I'd expect it on shelves. If they don't go well, he may just throw his hands up and let HBO finish it for him if they don't cancel after 3-4 seasons.

Interesting theory I just read re: Jon Snow
The greenseer training Bran is actually Bryndan Rivers (AKA Bloodraven), one of Aegon IV's "great bastards" who later became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. He was the last bearer of "Dark Sister" which was one of the two Valyrian greatswords belonging to the Targaryn's (It was borne by Viseryan - one of Aegon the Conqueror's sister-wives). If Jon meets up with Bran as a warg/resumes human form then this sword could end up in Jon's hands as a Targ-heir, and young Aegon may be weilding Blackfyre (the other Targaryn Valyrian blade, the one that Aegon the Conqueror wielded). I take no credit for this - just read it on a facebook comment thread as I was eating my breakfast. But yikes. Also - maybe Jon's body gets tossed onto the fire by Mel (to give them king's blood that they need for the sacrifice), and his dragon-blood leads to his rebirth? This is one death I actually think is not permanent due to 2 reasons: Melissandre (remember the story of Thoros and Beric Dondarion and Stonheart - that'd be fun for Catelyn and Jon Snow to come back the same way) & the warg chapter in the beginning of the book.

I posted this on FB, but also posting here. I'm talking with someone about the series but they've only read through ASoS. In which book does Tyrion sit in a toilet? I think it's the end of Storm of Swords but I don't want to discuss it with this person if it's in AFFC...

I have been listening to "Clash Of Kings" to prepare for the second season of the HBO show.
This is the frist time I have read/listened to Clash since having finsihed Dance. I noticed a couple of things that were foreshadowed. First, Ramsay Snow hunting women for sport. That's mentioned or, at the very least, referred to in Clash. Second, and a bit more surprising to me, is there scene where Jon first sort of develops his "warg" talents with Ghost. He is having a dream and it is Bran - via a weirwood - that talks to Jon and opens his "third eye" if you will and allows him to become linked with Ghost. So, the path we saw Bran take in book 5 was something Martin had planned out as early as book 2.

/tk said that she read an interview with Cyanide where they said they know Genesis sucked, and it sucked b/c they were spending most of their time on the RPG. While inexcusable, I'm hoping that's the case. Like I said - worst case scenario I'll at least be able to journey around and look at stuff I hope. I'll find SOMETHING worth playing in the game if it's not any good.

1. That's pretty much the working understanding on the Internet. No word yet if Martin will change that to throw us all for a loop, but all signs sure have pointed to it from the beginning. 2. Same as 1. 3. I hadn't heard that idea. 4. People like to hope so, but there's really next to no evidence (aside from a common cultural phrase that both use) to support it.

It was, but you'd think even then it'd be easy enough to figure out. Though signs seem to point to it.
As to point 1, there have been soooo many signs pointing to it (you can find it over the internet) that if that does NOT turn out to be the case, everyone will be shocked.

1. I think it's pretty safe to assume this. So many signs pointing to it. If it turns out not to be the case it will be a huge surprise.
2. I think that was the general thought, but after book 5 I am not sure anymore. 3. I would be very surprised if this were the case. Everything we've learned about the Crannogman makes me believe that they are much more like those in the North in that they believe in the old guys, children of the forest, heart trees and all of that stuff and not the Seven. While we have never met the character, everything we have heard about him makes this notion a pretty wild one. 4. I don't think so. People want to believe because Syrio was so cool, but I think they are very different people.
