We finish the regular season 22-6. We dropped to 23rd in the media poll.

Our bench is going to be very short for the post-season unless I burn Friedrich's or Pait's RS year which I'm not willing to do.

Didlake, Humphrey, and Enzweiler are our only reliable bench players now. Edward Palmer, a walkon PF, might get a few minutes if we get desperate as well.

Our 22-6 (13-5) record places us 2nd in the Pac-10 Standings, just behind Stanford.

Here are the Pac-10 Final Standings:

1. Stanford 24-7 (13-5)
2. USC 22-6 (13-5)
3. Washington 21-8 (12-6)
4. Oregon 22-8 (11-7)
5. California 21-9 (10-8)
6. Arizona 16-14 (8-10)
7. UCLA 16-15 (8-10)
8. ASU 17-14 (7-11)
9. WSU 12-19 (5-13)
10. Oregon State 10-19 (3-15)

I decide to risk simming our first conference tourney game which is against a weak WSU that I should handle easily even with the short bench..

The injury bug hits us again! Moye tears his ACL! Furthermore, we lose the game 75-73. We are freaking as thin as paper machette for the tourney run now, but I'm sure we'll still make it in.

Washington beats Oregon in the Pac-10 Tourney Final Game.

Time to find out are seeding..

Thanks. We are going to see what we can do playing only 7 or 8 and playing a slowed down tempo..

First up is George Mason. They are 24-6. They have a roster strength of 85. Even our banged up roster strength is still higher at 88. They have a star SG who we definitely have to watch out for:

SR SG Marshall Shakur is a beast from Toronto. He is 6'8 241 with absolutely filthy speed and quickness. He is a strong finisher and a solid outside shooter. He is averaging 16.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 4.9 apg, and 0.9 spg. He is rated 85 overall.

SR PF Ken McCalebb is 6'9 227 and is rated 83 overall. He is a strong inside scorer and a decent defensive player. He is averaging 13 ppg, 7 rpg, and 2 bpg.

FR C Lou Larranga is lanky at 6'9 209. He is rated 77 overall. He is averaging 7 ppg and 5 rpg.

SR SF Richie Bradshaw is 6'7 233 and is rated 76 overall. He is slow and we should have a distinct advantage with Mendoza. He is a good shooter and is averaging 10 ppg.

Jr PG Chris Shiloh is 6'3 178 and is rated 75 overall. He is a quick penetrating point guard who is average in other areas. He is averaging 7 ppg and 5 apg.

The bench is all in the low 70's - high 60's.

13:16 - Not a good start. Our guys are getting drawn into a running game and we aren't outscoring them with our starters. Tied at 11. I bring in Didlake at SG and Humphrey at SF. Shakur has all 11 of their points early. I've always gone with a M2M defense, but with McCurry's weaknesses defensively, perhaps it is time to try some zone defenses.

7:45 - We are down 21-14. Our guys aren't hitting their shots and they are getting tired. Detrick just picked up his 2nd foul. I rest Detrick and Boxley. Mendoza will play PF.

4:06 - Enzweiler just picked up his 2nd foul. We are down 26-18.

Mendoza is missing wide open midrange jumpers that he usually makes. We have no chance if that continues. Down 33-18 with 1:45 to go.

A strong last 2 minutes to end the half.

Halftime: Down 33-24. We are shooting 27% as a team.

Shakur is the player of the half with 14 points. Bradshaw has 12 points for them.

Mendoza leads our team with 7 points on 3 of 9 shooting.

McCurry is 0 of 4.

16:00 - Detrick hits a few 3's to make it 35-32, but Shakur responds with a 3 of his own. 38-32.

13:20 - Enzweiler has played the whole game and is exhausted. Mendoza will play center for a few minutes and Humphrey comes in at SF. Didlake comes in at PG. We are down 42-40.

7:48 - Boxley with a big offensive board. He is fouled. He hits both FT's to tie it at 50.

McCurry and Shakur exchange baskets.

Shakur with another basket. McCurry misses a shot, Mendoza with an offensive board, he kicks it out to Humphrey who hits a 3. We are up 55-54.

5:42 - McCalebb draws a foul and hits both FT's. They are up 56-55.

McCurry misses a 3 and Larranga gets a dunk inside. 58-55.

Boxley hits a 14 footer and then Mendoza blocks a shot by their center.

Humphrey misses an open 3 at the other end. McCalebb draws a foul and hits both FT's. Humphrey is getting very tired. I bring back Detrick and Enzweiler who are fresh.

3:02 - Detrick feeds Boxley in the post for a little hook. Down 60-59.

Detrick with a steal, he feeds it to Mendoza who is fouled on the dunk attempt. He misses the first FT. And, he misses the 2nd too. Boxley with the offensive board. Detrick with an open 3, it swirls around and out.

1:45: Enzweiler with a block that starts the fastbreak, McCurry 1-on-1 with Shakur, he uses a crossover to get by him and dunks it! 61-60.

They get it to Shakur who beats McCurry off the dribble, he hits the pull up jumper.

55 seconds left: We work it around to McCurry and he hits the 3 in the corner! 64-62, we lead.

Shakur tries to take it to the hole, Enzweiler bothers the shot enough that it misses. Enzweiler with the board.

23 seconds left and Detrick is wide open after a devastating screen by Enzweiler. He takes the open 3 and drills it! 67-62.

They hit a quick jumper and then foul Detrick as we inbound it. He makes both FT's. 69-64 with 8 seconds left.

They call a timeout and Shakur hits a quick 3. That guy is relentless. Detrick hits both FT's to seal the win.

We win the game 71-67.

Detrick is the player of the game, although I would have given it to Shakur.

Detrick with 18 points, 5 assists, 1 board, 2 steals, and 0 turnovers. He shot 5 of 10, 3 of 6, and 5 of 6. He played 28 minutes.

McCurry with 14 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, and 1 steal. He shot 4 of 11. He played 36 minutes.

Mendoza with 9 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 3 of 12. He played 34 minutes.

Boxley with 9 points, 14 boards, and 3 assists. He shot 3 of 6. He played 36 minutes.

Enzweiler with 4 points and 7 boards. He played 30 minutes.

Humphrey with 14 points in 17 minutes. He shot 3 of 9, 3 of 7, and 5 of 8.

Shakur with a game high 36 points, 7 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 50% from the field and the arc.

We get a very tough draw for our next game, #3 seed UConn. They are 28-7. Their overall roster strength is 92.

They have a strong balanced starting 5 and a deep bench:

JR PG Aron Hairson it 6'6 227 and is rated 83 overall. He is a terrific 3 point shooter and the best on ball defender I've seen at PG all year. He is averaging 10.4 ppg, 5.4 apg, 2.4 spg.

SO SG Demarcus Laws is a former All-American HS player who is rated 83 overall already. He is 6'6 209. He is a strong defensively oriented player. However, he is still averaging 12 ppg and 5 rpg.

SR SF Hugh Bey is 6'6 200 and is rated 86 overall. He is an excellent defender and a good 3 point shooter. He is averaging 13 ppg, 4 rpg, and 1.4 spg.

SR PF Zack McCrommon is a bit undersized at 6'4 225, but he is dynamic leaper who can finish with the best of them. He has great speed and is a good post player. He is averaging 11 ppg, 6 rpg, and 1.2 bpg.

JR C Clifford Hancock is a huge defensive presence in the post. He is 7'2 258 pounds and is rated 84 overall. He was the 12th rated center 3 years ago and 191st overall and was a 3 star player! He is a great shot blocker and has a good post game. He is averaging 13 ppg, 9 rpg, and 2 bpg.

The bench is led by Trent Bey who is 6'5 235 and is a 85 overall rated SF. He averages 11.5 ppg.

The rest of the bench is in the high 70's. I think this is going to take a miracle to win.

To top it all off, Uconn has a very impressive 90 team unity. This game could get ugly fast. If it becomes a blow out, I'll sim it to the end, but I'm hoping we can hang.

15:02 - So far, so good. We are tied at 6 thanks to 3 by Detrick and Mendoza.

9:01 - Against his toughest opponent, Detrick is playing his very best game. He's made a few steals (and had it stolen from him a few times) and is penetrating, shooting well, and setting up Mendoza for open 3's. We are up 15-8 as Detrick has had a hand in every single basket this game. Our slow pace is working perfectly so far.

I cannot believe the half our guys just played. The entire starting 5 played the entire half because they were on such a roll. They played the most intense defense I've seen from them. No shot went uncontested.

Halftime: We are up 30-16!

Detrick with 11 points and 6 assists at the half. He is 5 of 7. Almost every basket has come off a screen.

Mendoza with 14 points. He is 5 of 9.

Enzweiler with 2 blocks and 13 boards at the half.

We've held them to 21% shooting. Their star SF is 1 of 9. Mendoza is all over him.

Can we keep this up in the 2nd half?

14:01 - I've pushed my starters to their limit. Guys are very tired and the defense is starting to suffer now. We are up 35-21. I put in Didlake, Pena (I never thought he'd play) and Humphrey. I'm going to milk every second of the clock and try to buy time..

9:14 - It is working! We are up 45-30. I continue to buy more time for Detrick and Mendoza to attempt to allow them to come back fully rested.

Boxley with 2 offensive boards allows us to burn another 100 seconds.

6:00 - We are up 45-32. I bring back a rested Detrick at PG, McCurry at SG, and Mendoza gives Enzweiler a break.

Detrick finds Humphrey for a 3. They answer with a dunk from Hancock. He has been their only real scorer this 2nd half.

Detrick hits another 3. We look like we are going to pull this off.

3:35 - We are up 51-38. They are trying to run a full court trap, but we manage to move it upcourt safely.

2:03 - Mendoza with a big offensive board. 51-40.

45 seconds - Bey hits a 3. 51-45. They have to foul. Detrick misses the 2nd FT, but Boxley gets the offensive board! He hits both FT's.

We did it. We pull off what I think is the most impressive upset of my coaching career.

We won the game 54-45.

Detrick was the player of the game with 17 points, 9 assists, 2 steals, and 4 turnovers. He shot 7 of 11, 2 of 5, and 1 of 2.

Mendoza with 14 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 turnovers. He shot 5 of 10, 3 of 6, and 1 of 2.

McCurry with 7 points, 2 boards, and 1 steal. He shot 2 of 12.

Boxley with 4 points, 7 boards, and 2 blocks.

Enzweiler with 2 points, 16 boards, and 2 blocks.

Humphrey with 7 points.

Our next game will be even more of a challenge. We'll be facing #2 seed Florida. Their overall roster strength is 94. Donovan is still there and he has built a powerful roster. However, one of their starters, SR PF Glenn Crawford is out with a torn ACL. Two of their other starters, Barrett and Chandler, are going to play but are banged up.

SR PG Greg Buggs is 6'6 193 and is rated 88 overall. He is very good in all phases, but his best aspect is his shooting which is elite level. He is averaging 14 ppg and 4 apg.

SO Ron Fray starts but doesn't play many minutes as he is the weak link of the lineup. He is 6'3 197 and is rated 79 overall. He is averaging 4.4 ppg in about 18 mpg.

So SF Raul Chandler is the most impressive 2nd year player I've ever seen. He is from Kenner, LA. He is 6'9 240 and is rated 89 overall already. He was the #6 player overall in his H.S. Class. He is expected to be a lottery pick in the draft this year. He is a great all around player. He is averaging 17.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, and 2 spg.

Crawford's injury means that Ron Logan starts at PF. He is a 6'8 220 pound Junior. He is rated 83 overall and is just a well rounded player. He averaged 5.5 ppg (but most of that was in more limited minutes.)

JR C Earl Barrett is slowed by a knee injury but he will play and he is a monster. He is 6'10 260 and rated 89 overall. He has the best post game of any big man we've faced yet in this tourney. He is averaging 16.6 ppg, 8.7 rpg, and 2.6 bpg.

The bench is led by two guards who are each rated 85. JR PG M.C. Atuahene is averaging 10 ppg and 3 apg off the bench. SR PG Lewis Schiffner is averaging 7.4 ppg and 4.3 apg off the bench.

I'll play that game tomorrow morning.

15:00 - I'm trying to slow things down, but Florida is running at every opportunity (unlike UConn.) They are up 15-10.

9:42 - Florida has my guys gassed. I bring in Didlake and Humphrey at PG and SF. We are down 24-14. Mendoza is shooting terribly today.

4:48 - McCurry is keeping us in this game, but we are barely in reach. 38-26. Mendoza comes back at C to give Enzweiler a break. Detrick comes back at SG.

Halftime: We are down 49-33.

McCurry has 14 points to lead the team.

They are led by Buggs who has 10 points and 4 assists.

15:03 - Our guys are gassed and they are pulling away. Down 60-40. Buggs is tearing it up out there.

10:04 - Chandler with a huge dunk that has the crowd going crazy. 74-50. I have to rest Detrick and Mendoza again

5:03 - No miracles are happening today. We are down 89-64.

We lose the game 99-78. Mendoza finally hit some shots late, but it was much too late.

Buggs was the player of the game with 21 points and 10 assists.

Even banged up Chandler finished with 21 points and 3 boards.

Detrick finished with 11 points and 4 assists on 4 of 13 shooting.

McCurry with 20 points and 5 assists. He shot 6 of 16.

Mendoza with 10 points and 5 boards. He shot 4 of 15.

Boxley with 4 points and 4 boards.

Enzweiler with 6 points and 9 boards.

Didlake led the bench with 16 points.

The Final 4:

#5 Miami vs #1 DePaul

#2 Washington vs #2 Florida

Miamia (FL) beats DePaul 68-65.

Florida beats Washington 99-60! I guess that makes me feel a bit better about my effort.

In the National Championship Game, Miami beats Florida 78-67. Miami did it with balanced scoring as 4 starters had 14 points.

Anyway, I think our team did very well in the tourney for such a short bench. I think Detrick is ready to break out and have a player of the year type season next year.

Player of the Year: SR C Najeeb Falu, Missouri - 22.3 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 2.5 bpg.

Mid-Major Player of the Year: SR C Cantrell Dunnington - 26.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 3.2 bpg.

Donovan won Coach of the Year.

Villanova's SG Rodrick Riddle won Freshman of the Year - 13.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.0 apg.

No Pac-10 player made 1st or 2nd team All-American.

Moye made the national All-Freshman Team. He finished with 7.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Hopefully, he comes back from the injury in time for the season..

ASU's Jarek Minter, their star center, won Pac-10 Player of the Year. He's only a junior but hopefully will go pro this year. He averaged 22.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg, and 1.3 bpg.

FR PG Mustafa Hall edged out Moye for Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. He averaged 8.6 ppg and 6.8 apg.

No Trojans on 1st or 2nd team all Pac-10.

Humphrey and Moye made the Pac-10 All Freshman Team.

Here are the final stats of most of the key players:

Detrick - 10.7 ppg, 4.7 apg, 1.4 rpg, 1.8 spg.

McCurry - 11 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.2. apg, 0.9 spg.

Blizzard - 10.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.2 apg.

Boxley - 10.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.3 spg.

Mendoza - 9.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.7 apg.

Didlake - 6.7 ppg, 2.6 apg, 1 spg.

Humphrey - 5.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg.

Enzweiler - 4.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg.

After the tourney is over, I get offered several big time jobs including Kansas, Syracuse, and Duke. I turn them all down.

No one goes pro early. No one graduates. However, I'm shocked to see Dusan transfer out! Good riddance. He chose to go to Hawaii. I doubt he'll ever see playing time there either.

Midnight madness is here again! Time to look at our roster:

SR PG Steffan Detrick - 6'1 185, 85 rating. He has really blossomed over the last year. He now is considered one of the best pure shooters in the nation. I realized during that last tourney run that I need to encourage him to shoot more. His defense is still a bit suspect, but that should come around in time. He is projected as a lottery pick next year. He will be the undisputed starter.

SR PG Armond Didlake - 6'1 185, 84. I feel a bit bad for him as we are going to feature Detrick this year. However he'll give us a very good 15-20 minutes off the bench most nights.

SO PG Sead Novakovic - 5'11 172, 73. He's developing a fair bit and has a chance to gain the starters job next year, but I'm hopeful that we'll recruit a star PG who will pass him up.

JR SG Calvin McCurry - 6'5 238, 84. He's still a defensive liability, but his offensive potentail cannot be denied. Great combination of speed and strength and is a good outside shooter when he is on. He's clearly our starter.

RS FR SG Friedrich Lang - 6'5 214, 75. He developed nicely during his redshirt year and has a chance to compete for some minutes off the bench, but it is going to be a crowded competition. Best thing about him is his dunking ability.

JR SG Albert Pena - Will only see the floor if we get crushed by injuries again. 6'3 204. Rated 56 overall.

SR SF Jon Paul Blizzard - 6'7 250, 88. He's won me over. He's the most consistent SF and is a great offensive option when his shot is falling. He's really developed his post game which is good as I'm probably going to install a new offense this year (my Niagara offense which generates a lot of motion and postup opportunities for everyone.) His best attribute is his strength/speed ratio.

JR SF Brady Mendoza - 6'7 246, 84. He's a great shooter when he is on, but he is much too streaky. He doesn't have the strength of speed of Blizzard but he isn't bad in either area. His defense is a real weakness. Could get most of his minutes at PF if I go with a new offense.

RS SO Kareem Humphrey - 6'8 209, 81. He was a pleasant surprise last year. He's not only a good 3 point shooter, he's good at driving to the hoop. His speed/quickness is the best of the 3. His defense is better than Mendoza's now. He'll get some opportunites at SG again as well as SF if Mendoza is having a bad night.

RS FR SF Branden Pait enters the crowded position, but he is too good to keep on the bench. 6'6 213, 79. His defense is the weakest of the 4, but he has worked hard on his outside shot and he is one of the better shooters of the group. He's also a very dynamic dunker, the best on my team. I think he'll thrive if I go with the motion offense that I'm toying with.

SR PF Robin Boxley - 6'7 209, 88. I think the new offense would suit him the best. He's not much up a post up player, but he can hit the 3 and he is great when driving into the lane and squaring up. Excellent shot blocker despite his size.

JR C Willis Enzweiler - 6'8 285, 82. He would be the starter in the new offense as he has more mobility and passing ability. His shot blocking has improved nicely during the off season. He is also the better post scorer now.

SO C Percy Moye - 7'0 234, 79. He appears to be recovered from his injury which I'm a bit surprised by. I thought it might take part of the year. His opost game needs a lot of work, but his jumper is coming along nicely. Defensively, he is a good shot blocker, but he needs to work on other components of his defense.

FR walk on C Bennett Hehn is the first potentially useful walk on in a long time. 6'10 226, 67 overall. He could develop into a nice role player.

With the transfer and 4 seniors on the roster, I have 5 scholarships available for next year. Key areas for recruitment:

- A starting PF.

- A starting PG.

- A backup PF or C.

- A backup PG.

- Starting SG?

A look at some potential recruits:

SR SF Teddy Sowers is my #1 target. Of course, SF is very crowded, but this kid is local (Anaheim, CA) and he's an All-American who is 9th overall in the nation. I've been recruiting him since his sophomore year and I've got a good relationship with him. However, he really likes Cal and Pepperdine as well. He is a star in the making. He averaged 15 ppg and 10 rpg in the ABL while shooting 56% from the floor and 40% from the arc.

5 star PG Otis Urbutis is my #2 target, but he is a long shot. He's the 8th best player in the nation. He's from San Jose, CA. He's looking at schools in northern CA such as Cal and Stanford ahead of us. Still, I worked on him all year last year and I won't give him up without a fight. He averaged 15.4 ppg and 4.4 apg in the ABL.

4 star SG Wade Yeager is my next most important target. He is ranked 51st overall. He is a 6'4 189 pound player from Phoenix, AZ. He is considered the best pure shooter out there by my scouts. He averaged 16 ppg and 8 rpg in the ABL. He shot 55% from the floor. Arizona and ASU will be hard to beat, but I'm going to try..

I'm also going after Brent Wooten. He's a 6'3 173 pound SG from Sandy, UT. He is considrered the 11th best player in the nation. He's another strong shooter. He averaged 12 ppg, 4 rpg, and 4 apg in the ABL. He also favors Arizona.

Apparently, the media believes we have a very talented roster. We open up as #4 in the first media poll! Here is the top 5:

1. Ohio State
2. Miami (FL)
3. Oklahoma
4. USC
5. UConn

Looks like you maxed out in the tournament, based on all of the injuries. Reading along, it felt like you had a better conference run than I expected although giving away the lead in the Arizona game was brutal. Did you still have a shot at winning the conference crown at that point or was it already a done deal? It sounded like Washington had taken a few losses, so I thought you might still be in contention at that point.

Good luck this next year. It sounds like you are loaded up for a deep run if everything breaks right but the pressure will be on when these seniors graduate. A recruiting bonanza, with all the open scholarships, would certainly be appreciated by the Trojan fanbase.

The other recruit who I'm pursuing the most is 4 star PF Kory Rowell. He is from Brooklyn, NY. He is 6'8 222. He averaged 16 ppg, 13 rpg, and 3 bpg in the ABL. He is ranked 63rd overall. His top 3 are UConn, Rutgers, and USC.

Nov 3, 2028 -

Today, we have a cupcake to open up our schedule at the Galen Center. We will play Weber State whose roster strengh is a 68. Ours is a 94. This should be a good chance to try out some of the new elements we installed to our offense this year.

Also, this week we have 4 of our 5 main targets visiting the campus. Trying to see if we can get them to all realize they could be part of something special here in the future together.

If we hadn't blown the Arizona game, we would have won the regular season conference crown. That was a tough loss to swallow.

Oh yeah, this game will also be a chance to try out our new zone defenses that we are going to attempt to utilize this year..

16:30 - A slow start. We are down 8-4.

16:12 - Detrick picks up his 2nd foul. Didlake comes into the game.

12:04 - Down 15-11, Enzweiler picks up his 2nd foul. I bring in Pait at SF, Mendoza at PF, and Moye at C.

9:27 - Moye gets called for a 2nd foul in a rough collision where he knocks the other guy down hard and their center leaves the game.

8:59 - Moye picks up a 3rd foul. This 2-3 matchup zone does not appear to be working well at all. We switch back to M2M. Enzweiler returns to the game. Detrick also returns as Didlake is tired. We are down 23-21.

7:32 - Pait has hit three 3's in a row! He has an ultra quick release. Down 28-27.

5:52 - Pait hits another 3 to give us the lead! 30-28. Pait is on fire!

3:22 - The combination of Detrick, Humphrey, and Pait is causing tremendous pressure on the perimeter opening things up for Enzweiler down low. He has 3 baskets in a row. We are up 38-31.

2:45 - Pait blows by his man with a pump fake, drives, dunks it and is fouled!

Pait hits another 3.. and then a 12 footer. Most impressive offensive display I've ever seen. Then again, the man guarding him is 6'3 and is rated 58 overall..

Halftime: We are up 50-31.

Pait is the player of the half with 27 points! He's shot 9 of 11, 5 of 7, and 4 of 5.

I can't believe I've sat Blizzard this long, but Pait has earned staying out on the court to start the 2nd half.

19:37 - Pait blows by his man and is fouled.

15:51 - They've put a taller defender on Pait and it has slowed him down. We are up 53-36. Time to get Blizzard back into the game for a bit.

9:12 - We are up 69-39. I bring in Didlake, Humphrey, Pait, Mendoza, and Moye.

Not a great last 9 minutes and Pait cooled off, but we finish it out without being threatened.

We win the game 88-63.

Pait is the player of the game as I think he may have had the best debut I've ever had from a player. 36 points, 3 boards, 1 assist, and 2 steals. He shot 12 of 20, 6 of 13, and 6 of 8.

Detrick with 7 points, 4 assists, 1 block, and 3 turnovers. He shot 1 of 5 and was generally disappointing.

McCurry with 9 points and 2 boards.

Blizzard with 12 points, 6 boards, and 2 steals in just 16 minutes. I think he will really thrive in the new offense.

Boxley with 2 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists. Very disappointing. He was 1 of 8 and had plenty of open looks that he missed.

Enzweiler with 8 points, 10 boards, and 2 assists.

Mendoza with 2 points, 8 boards, and 5 assists. He shot 1 of 5.

Didlake with 5 points, 2 assists, and 2 turnovers.

Humphrey with 4 points, 3 boards, and 2 assists. He shot 1 of 5.

Moye with 3 points and 8 boards.

I really should have gotten Lang into the game. Oh well.

Offense was a clear success, but the M2M defense worked much better. We'll probably stick with that for most of the next game.

After the game, I call a few of the recruits.

Otis Urbitis had a great time visiting our campus. However, he is honest and tells me that he is probably going to Cal. Maybe I should give up on him, but I can't. I'll keep pursuing him and trying to convince him we are right for him.

Teddy Sowers tells me he had a great time and he is "All USC!" I hope he doesn't change his mind late. He is athletic enough to be our starting SG I think even though he is listed at SF.

Wade Yeager tells me that he really likes us, but the word from my staff is that he also really likes Texas Tech. Where did they come from!?!

Rowell is reportedly favoring UConn, but we are his 2nd choice.

Wooten is still wide open by most accounts.

Our simulated game will be a tough road game against Nevada. They are 1-0 and their roster strength is 89.

We lose 88-80.

Blizzard with 21 points and 4 boards. Boxley with 17. McCurry and Mendoza with 10. Pait had a quiet 4 points. Humphrey with 8. Detrick with 5 points and 6 assists. He shot 2 of 9.

Our next game is hosting Boise State. They are 0-1 and have a roster strength of 81. Their starters are all rated in the mid 70's. Their best player is SR SF Raitis Fitzgerald.

17:24 - Slow start, we are down 8-3 as their SG has hit 2 3's.

14:33 - They call a timeout as we are on a 8-0 run. We are up 11-8. Detrick is making plays.

10:53 - Our offense is clicking but poor defense. We are up 20-17 as I bring in our entire 2nd unit.

5:31 - Down 32-27, I get the starters back into the game. Disappointing 5 minutes from Pait.

Halftime: We are down 43-39. Our perimeter defense is playing terrible.

We are allowing them to shoot over 50%. Lampkin, their SG has 13 points.

Detrick leads our team with 15 points and 4 assists at the half.

11:06 - We are down 58-57. McCurry has been doing most of our scoring the last 5 minutes. Now, most of my starters are tired. We bring in the entire 2nd unit. They have to do better than the 1st half.

7:58 - Mendoza spins off his man and dunks it to put us up 61-59. The home crowd is going crazy.

4:02 - After Moye has a huge putback dunk, they hit another 3 to take the lead. We are down 73-72 as I bring back our starters.

Detrick with a nice crossover gets into the lane and draws the foul. We go up 74-73.

They take the lead, but after we miss a shot, McCurry steals it and gets a breakaway dunk. 20 seconds later, McCurry steals it again and triggers another fastbreak. We get the basket and the foul. We are up 79-75.

They answer with a quick 3 by Fitzgerald. 79-78.

Detrick misses a pair of 3's. Dennehy, their PF hits a 3 and then a 12 footer. They are up 83-79 with a minute left.

Boxley misses a dunk and Lampkin draws a foul. We get a break as he misses both FT's. Blizzard draws a quick foul. He makes 1 of 2. We have to foul with 33 seconds left.

They make 1 of 2. We get a quick inside dunk attempt by Enzweiler but he misses when he is fouled. He hits both FT's. 84-82 with 25 seconds left.

We foul their PG again. He makes both FT's. Blizzard misses an open 3.

It's all over after Detrick misses a tough 3.

Embarassing 90-82 loss. I wonder how far we fall from #4 in the polls after the 2 losses this week.

Bishop their PG was the player of the game with 15 points and 10 assists.

Detrick finished with 20 points, 5 assists, 3 boards, 3 steals, 1 block, and 2 turnovers. He shot 6 of 18.

McCurry with 15 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 5 of 10.

Blizzard with 13 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists. He shot 2 of 9 (8 of 11 from the line.)

Boxley with 6 points and 2 boards.

Enzweiler with 6 points and 10 boards.

Moye led the bench with 7 points, 6 boards, and 1 block.

Pait was held to 0 points, 0 boards, and 0 assists. He shot 0 of 5.

We drop to 19th in the media poll at 1-2.

Yeager appears to be leaning towards Texas Tech.

Urbitis appears to be heavily favoring Cal now.

Sowers is still all USC. I go visit his home to try to close the deal.

Nov 17, 2028 -

Today we host New Mexico. They are 1-2 with a team roster strength of 78. This should get us back on the right track..

We win the game 95-45. Boxley with 26 points. Detrick with 17 points and 10 assists. McCurry, Mendoza, and Moye each had 10 points.

Our next game is hosting Mississippi Valley State. They are 4-0, but their roster strength is only 71. We better blow them out or I'll be making some changes in the lineup. I'll play them tomorrow.

14:14 - An absolutely embarassing start. I have no idea what is wrong with this team right now. Down 14-4.

13:53 - Detrick picks up his 2nd foul. Very poor defense by everyone so far.

11:01 - Down 24-8, I bring in our 2nd unit. I need to see much more intensity.

Pait is instant offense. 2 quick 3's.

7:09 - We've cut it to 34-22. Our 2nd unit is playing well.

1:44 - The 2nd unit closed it within 6, but then fatigue hit them hard. Down 43-33 as I bring back the starters.

1:06 - Detrick picks up his 3rd foul.

Halftime: Down 44-36.

Pait is our leading scorer with 15 points. If we have a slow start in the 2nd half, Pait will be back into the game soon.

17:51 - Blizzard picks up his 3rd foul. I bring in Pait. We are down 49-43.

15:58 - Detrick and Pait on the fastbreak, 2-on-1, Detrick to Pait for a tremendous alley-oop dunk. We are down 51-49 and our crowd is going crazy. They call a timeout.

15:42 - Detrick with a steal and fastbreak dunk!

11:22 - Pait with a 15 footer to give us our first lead of the game. 56-54.

11:02 - Detrick picks up his 4th foul. We bring in Didlake.

10:34 - Pait with a huge dunk over their SG and the foul! He misses the FT, Boxley with the board, he passes it to Didlake who passes it to Pait for an open 3.. he swishes it!

That continues a big run. Didlake to Pait for another dunk! We are in the middle of a 16-0 run.

8:08 - Our 18-0 run ends when they hit a 3. We are up 72-57.

6:05 - Pait with a 14 footer. He now has 31. We are up 79-57.

Pait with a pair of 3's. He's going for 40 and he's in such a hot zone, I'm letting him.

3:38 - Pait finally misses a 3.

2:25 - Pait is fouled and has a chance to get to 40 via a pair of FT's. He misses them both and is clearly tired as our all of our starters. I pull them with a 90-68 lead. Lang will get in for the final 2 minutes of the game.

1:23 - Lang hits his first shot.

We win the game 95-73.

Terrible start but fantastic 2nd half.

Pait is the player of the game with 39 points, 6 boards, 1 assist, and 2 steals. He shot 15 of 18, 7 of 8 from the arc, and 2 of 7 from the line. When Blizzard graduates this year, Pait might step right into that starting role unless the super frosh signs with us and is spectacular.

Detrick with 12 points, 5 assists, 2 boards, and a steal. He shot 3 of 8 and was 1 of 6 from the arc.

McCurry with 13 points, 1 board, and 3 assists.

Blizzard with 3 points, 1 board and 1 assist. He shot 1 of 6.

Boxley with 1 point, 5 boards, and 3 assists. His minutes are going to go down a bit if he doesn't become more consistent.

Enzweiler with 6 points, 12 boards, and a block.

Moye with 2 points, 6 boards, and a block off the bench.

Mendoza with 3 poinsts and 2 assists. He shot 1 of 4.

Humphrey with 8 points on 2 of 3 shooting, all from the arc, and 2 of 2 FT shooting.

We are now 3-2 and rise to 16th in the media poll.

Nov 24, 2028 -

Today, we play at Kansas State. They are 3-2 with a roster strength of 81.

We win on the road 87-61! Detrick with 11 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

McCurry with 10 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Blizzard with 10 points on 3 of 7 shooting.

Boxley with 17 points, 4 boards, and 4 blocks.

Enzweiler with 7 points and 5 boards.

Mendoza led the bench with 9 on 3 of 7 shooting.

Humphrey with 8, Moye with 7, and Didlake with 5. Pait had 1 point on 0 of 6 shooting from the floor.

Now, we are starting the early signing period. Will we get any of our targets?

Teddy Sowers signed with USC!! He's my first All-American ever signed in my career. I guess SF's love playing for me after what I did with Hannan's career. Our staff has looked at him much closer and here are their full impressions: Shooting - A, Skills - B, Defense - B, Athleticism A-, Rebounding B+, IQ - A, Potential - A, Size - B. He's ranked 9th overall and 2nd among SF's in the nation.

Further breaking down his current strengths: They believe he will be among the fastest players in the nation at his position with a great first step. He is a very good shooter from midrange. They think his awareness is exceptional.

Unfortunately, we lost out on 3 other players we had offered scholarships to: Yeager chose Texas Tech, Urbitis chose Cal, and Rowell chose to stay on the East Coast and go to UConn.

Our staff thinks we have a decent chance at getting Brent Wooten before the early signing period is over next week! He's the #11 player in the nation and #4 SG and is also an All-American. I focus my efforts on him this week and he'll visit the campus, but we need to find a few more targets:

UCLA signed a good local center early that slipped under my radar. I decide to go after Wallace Rollins. He is a 3 star 6'11 240 pound center from Anaheim. He is rated 403rd overall and 38th overall but he our staff thinks he has very good potential.

Our staff likes a 3 star PG (borderline 4 star PG) better than his higher ranked local rival so I offer him a scholarship. Carson Sparrow is 6'2 193 and is ranked 128th overall and 50th among PG's. He has very good shooting and defensive abilities per our staff. Sparrow is from Hayward, CA.

Thinking about my earlier recruiting needs, I offer his local rival as well. O.J. Payne is 5'10 160 and is ranked 64th overall and 33rd among PG's. He is from Los Angeles. He is a 4 star player who needs to work on his defense.

Our next game is at Loyola Marymount. They are 4-4 with a roster strength of 82. Their most dangerous player is SG Jud Foust who is 6'5 205 and is a precision shooter. He's averaging 12 ppg. He is rated 81 overall.

Their JR Center, Len Huffman, is also a very good player. He is 7'0 250 and is rated 79 overall. He's very strong and quick. He's averaging 19 ppg.

The rest of their starting lineup is in the low 70's. I'm expecting a big win..

Blizzard sprained his wrist in practice but will play.

15:25 - Enzweiler picks up his 2nd foul. I bring in Moye. Otherwise, it has been a great start. We are up 10-3.

10:12 - I bring in the entire second unit. We are up 15-11.

6:23 - Pait is playing very well again. We are up 22-13.

4:18 - Mendoza goes down with an ankle injury. We are up 23-18.

2:56 - I bring back my starters. We are up 25-20.

Halftime: We lead 29-24. At least our defense appears to be back on track. Guys are showing a level of hustle that I haven't seen for a few games until the 2nd half of the last game.

Detrick is the player of the half with 12 points. He doesn't have any assists though.

During halftime, Mendoza was cleared to return to the game.

14:38 - Tied at 35. Enzweiler picks up his 3rd foul. Moye comes into the game.

11:28 - Tied at 46. I bring in the 2nd unit.

4:11 - The bench is tired. Pait had another series of 3's made. We are up 64-61. I bring back my starters, but if Blizzard doesn't play well, Pait might return in 2 minutes.

2:11 - We are up 71-61. McCurry with 5 points in the last 2 minutes.

We win the game 73-64.

Detrick wins player of the game. He finished with 16 points, 5 assists, 2 boards, and 2 steals. He shot 4 of 7, 1 of 4, and 7 of 8. He's the best 3 point shooter on the team in practice, but so far it has not translated into the games.

McCurry with 13 points, 2 boards, 1 assists, and 1 steal. He shot 4 of 10.

Blizzard with 7 points, 3 boards, and 2 assists. He shot 3 of 10.

Boxley with 5 points, 6 boards, and 1 steal.

Enzweiler with 4 points, 4 boards, and 2 blocks.

Mendoza with 3 points and 3 boards.

Pait with 15 points, 3 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 6 of 9, 3 of 4, and 0 of 0.

Thanks to Pait, Didlake's assist numbers have gone way up the last few games. Didlake with 6 points, 4 boards, and 5 assists.

Humphrey with 0 points as he missed all 3 shots he took.

Now, we get to see if any more recruits sign early..

Darn, Brent Wooten came so close to signing with us, but he didn't. We are still his number 1 choice, but Stanford is now in the mix and they could be a tough team to beat out..

3 star C Wallace Rollins jumped at the early scholarship offer and signed immediately. As mentioned, he was ranked 403rd in the nation. He averaged 9 points, 9 boards, and 1 bpg in the ABL. Our staff grades him out as follows: Shooting - C+, Skills B-, Defense - B, Athleticism - C+, Rebounding - A, IQ - B, Potential - B, Size - A.

We were too late in going after O.J. Payne. He is heading up north to play for Cal. UCLA is putting together a nice class. They got a local 4 star SG to add to two other 4 stars they signed last week.

Since Payne turned us down, I go after Steven Rothbart, a 4 star PG from Houston, Texas. He is ranked 42nd overall. It's going to be tough to beat out Oklahoma and Texas A&M for him but not impossible.

Sparrow has told us that he really likes USC and he'll probably eventually sign with us. Cal and Arizona are in the mix.

Despite the wins, our weak schedule has us dropping in the rankings. We are 5-2 and now 20th in the media poll.

Dec 14, 2028 -

Today we host Furman. They are 2-4 with a strength of 70.

They upset us 88-84. What is wrong with my team? Boxley with 25 points and Blizzard with 21, but the defense was just terrible. I think that is the fundamental issue. I don't have enough tough defensive minded players on the roster.

Detrick finished with 10 assists but 0 points on 0 of 7 shooting.

Pait with 8 points on 3 of 3 shooting.

Our next game is hosting Idaho State. They are 2-7 with a roster strength of 74.

14:21 - Ugly defense to start the game. Tied at 10.

11:36 - My starters are tired, so I bring in the 2nd unit. We are down 14-12.

2:53 - We had built up a 8 point lead, but now it is down to 3. 28-25. I bring back my starters to finish the half.

Halftime: We are up 34-29.

McCurry is the player of the half with 8 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

10:52 - Enzweiler picks up his 4th foul. We are up 52-41. Detrick is playing very well the last 9 minutes. I bring in our 2nd unit.

3:55 - Moye is dominating their smaller center. I leave him in and bring in the rest of our starters with Enzweiler at PF and Boxley remaining on the bench. We are up 70-60.

We win the game 83-63.

Moye ends up winning player of the game with 17 points, 10 boards, and 2 blocks. He shot 6 of 7, 0 of 0, and 5 of 5.

Detrick with 11 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 0 turnovers. He shot 3 of 5, 1 of 1, and 4 of 4.

McCurry with 17 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 4 turnovers. He shot 6 of 11.

Blizzard with 7 points and 5 boards. He shot 3 of 9.

Boxley with 4 points and 2 boards. His playing time is going to drop.

Enzweiler with 3 points, 12 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. He shot 1 of 3.

Pait had 10 points on 3 of 8 shooting.

Humphrey with 6 points and 7 boards. Didlake with 5 points and 2 assists. Mendoza with 3 points and 2 boards. He shot 1 of 4.

Yes! Brent Wooten has told me that he wants to come to USC over Stanford. Of course, he could change his mind, but the kid seems certain. Him and Sowers would likely be the cornerstones of my best class yet.

Dec 22, 2028 -

We finish the non-conference schedule with a game at home vs 2-6 Hampton. Their roster strength is 77.

Wow. We win 105-46.

Blizzard with 33 points and 5 boards. He shot 11 of 13, 2 of 4, and 9 of 11.

Detrick with 9 points, 3 boards, and 3 assists.

McCurry with 12 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 6 steals.

Boxley with 17 points, 6 boards, and 6 blocks!

Enzweiler with 0 points and 8 boards.

Mendoza and Humphrey each had 12 points. Humphrey also had 6 boards to lead the bench players. Moye with 7 points. Didlake with 5 points and 6 assists.

We are now 7-3 and 20th in the media poll.

Just 1 week after he told me he was all USC, Wooten tells me that he is reconsidering and might go with Stanford. Ahh, the capricious nature of a 17 year old kid..

A quick Pac-10 Preview:

1. USC is favored to win the title this year. 94 roster strength leads the conference. We are 7-3.

Tied for 2. Washington is 10-2 with a roster strength of 92. They are starting freshman at PG and C, but have a superstar in Theo Adams at PF.

2. Oregon is 10-2 with a roster strength of 92. Clarke Lindeman is a superstar SG. Mitch McLeod is one of the best point guards in the conference.

3. Stanford is 12-0 with a roster strength of 91. They are starting a FR PG who is one of the best Freshman I've ever seen. He's now rated 84. Jason Guinn, their SG, is their best player. Very well balanced starting 5.

4. Cal is 9-1 with a roster strength of 89. They are a veteran team starting 4 seniors. Center Ronald Hanson is their best player.

5. UCLA is 9-2 with a roster strength of 88. They are weak at PG where they are starting a freshman, but their PF and C are good veteran players.

6. Arizona is 8-5 with a roster strength of 87. Weak at PF and C, but solid in the rest of their starting lineup.

7. Arizona State is 8-2 with a strength of 86. Starting Freshman at SG and SF. Their SO PF is their weakest player. Veteran C Jarek Minter is their main scoring threat.

8. Oregon State is 9-3 with a roster strength of 85. They are starting 3 SR's at SF, PF, and C. No starter rated over a 78.

9. Washington State continues to flounder. They are 6-5 with a roster strength of 82. They are a veteran starting 5 with 2 seniors and 3 juniors. PF Desmond Conroy is the only player rated higher than a 78, he is a 80.

We are leading the conference in scoring at 87 ppg. However, our defense is among the worst in the conference.

We lead the conference in rebounding at 34.2 per game and assists at 17.8 per game.

Cal's Hanson is leading the conference in scoring at 25 ppg.

Washington's Theo Adams is considered the best player in the conference.

Stanford's PG Finn is considered the best freshman (by a nice margin.)

Detrick is considered the conference's best shooter. It would be nice if he started living up to that ref.

Stanford's Hull is considered the best playmaker.

Stanford's Guinn is considered the best pro prospect.

Adams is considered the best defender.

We open our conference schedule at Arizona.

Detrick has slowed down in his development. Interestingly, Humphrey has shown the most in season growth this year.

Here are the key players on Arizona:

JR PG Frederick Rothseiden is 6'1 190 and rated 82 overall. He is a good perimeter shooter and a fairly good defender. He is averaging 10.5 ppg and 5 apg.

SR SG Rich Robbins is 6'3 189 and is rated 78 overall. No real strengths. He is averaging 9.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg.

JR SF Leslie Werch is a load at 6'8 264. He is rated 80 overall. He has surprising speed and quickness for his size. He is a good dunker who is asolid defensive player. He is averaging 11.2 ppg and 5.2 rpg.

SO PF Tommie Cuic is a player I pursued but lost to them. He is a 6'10 242 pound PF from Huntington Beach, CA. He is rated 77 overall. He is a very good rebounder and has already developed a very nice post game. He is averaging 9.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, and 1.9 bpg.

JR C Acie Randle is 6'9 231 and is rated 77 overall. No real strengths to his game. He is averaging 7.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, and 1.8 bpg.

The bench is led by SO PG Thomas Arenas who is 6'2 178 and is rated 79 overall. He is the best 3 point shooter on their team. He is averaging 8 ppg and 2 apg.

The rest of their bench is in the low to mid 70's.

15:09 - Good effort at both ends early. We are up 10-7.

13:45 - Blizzard gets a 2nd foul on Werch. We are up 13-9 behind a pair of 3's by Detrick.

10:42 - We have let them score the last 5. I turn to the bench. We are up 15-14.

6:25 - Pait and Moye are powering the offense. If Moye can continue these signs of becoming a strong interior scorer, I like our chances in the tourney. We are up 28-19.

3:21 - I bring back most of my starters. However, Moye will stay at C and Pait will stay at PF. Blizzard is playing better than McCurry in the 1st half, and I'm going to give him a shot at SG. We are up 34-29.

Blizzard with an assist to Pait for a 3 and then Pait returns the favor as Blizzard hits a 3.

Halftime: We lead 45-34.

Pait is the player of the half with 13 points, 1 board, and 1 assist.

Moye with 10 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and a block.

Blizzard with 9 at the half.

I start the 2nd half with my usual starters, but Moye and Pait will get in earlier this half.

14:21 - We are up 51-42 as Pait and Moye return to the game. Blizzard slides to SG.

11:05 - We are up 59-44. Blizzard is doing a respectable job defensively and his size is overwhelming his man on the offensive end. He's posting him up very effectively.

9:33 - Blizzard with a pair of 3's. We are up 65-46.

7:45 - Guys are getting sloppy out there as they get tired. I bring in Didlake at PG, McCurry at SG, Mendoza back at SF, and Enzweiler at PF. We lead 67-50.

3:51 - They close within 10. I go back to Detrick, Blizzard, Pait, Enzweiler, and Moye. We are up 71-61.

We win the game 83-67. I feel bad we didn't get Humphrey into the game much, but I liked that rotation. Blizzard was a potent scorer posting his man up.

Blizzard is the player of the game with 21 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 6 of 11, 3 of 4, and 6 of 7.

Detrick with 14 points, 6 assists, 2 steals, 1 board, and 3 turnovers. He shot 5 of 12.

McCurry with 3 points, 1 board, and 1 assist in 20 minutes. He shot 1 of 5.

Boxley with 4 points and 5 boards in 20 minutes.

Enzweiler with 0 points, 10 boards, and 1 block.

Pait led the bench with 19 points, 2 boards, 3 assists, and 4 turnvoers. He shot 7 of 13, 4 of 9, and 1 of 2.

Moye with 16 points, 9 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. He shot 6 of 8 and 4 of 4 from the line in 25 minutes.

Mendoza with 4 points in 15 minutes.

Humphrey with 2 points and a board in 7 minutes.

Today we play at #4 Cal (11-1.) We are 8-3 and 17th in the media poll. Could be a big win for us..

We pull off the win convincingly, but Moye sprains his ankle. He'll be out 2-3 weeks. We won 93-71. Mendoza led all scorers with 19 points, 4 boards, and 3 assists. McCurry, Blizzard, and Boxley each had 17 points. Detrick with 8 assists.

I really needed Moye for our next game which is at 15-0 Stanford. They are #2 in the media poll. If we can pull off this upset, we should skyrocket in the polls.

Stanford's super frosh is banged up with a bruised hip, but he'll play. A look at their key players:

FR PG Dedric Finn. He is 6'0 178 and is rated 84 overall already. He was the #2 player overall last year. The only thing that makes me slightly happy about not getting him is there is a lot of talk that he could be 1 and done. He is already a dynamic offensive player who is an excellent shooter and passer. He's averaging 10 ppg and 5 apg.

SR SG Jason Guinn is 6'5 213 and rated 90. He is a shut down defender who has a very good offensive game. Amazing first step. He's averaging 15.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.3 apg, and 1.9 spg.

JR SF Mire Holden is 6'8 218 and is rated 84 overall. He has tremendous quickness for his size. He's averaging 8.3 ppg and 2.6 rpg.

JR PF Vernon Tobias is a bit banged up as well, but he'll also play. He's 6'9 235 and is rated 81 overall. He's a good post player who can shoot the 8-10 foot jumper. He's averaging 6.6 ppg.

SO C Kurtis Byerson is developing nicely. He's 6'11 248 and rated 81 overall. No real strengths standout. He's averaging 8.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 1.9 bpg.

The bench is led by SR SG Vernard Buckendahl who is 6'3 201 and is rated 87 overall. He's averaging 12 ppg and 4.2 rpg.

SO PG Mustafa Hall must be upset about being last year's freshman star of the conference and now he is relegated to 16 mpg. He's 5'10 178 and rated 82 overall. He was the 7th best player in his class. Despite the limited minutes, his stats haven't dropped that far. He's averaging 8.6 ppg and 5.2 apg.

The rest of the bench is rated in the high 70's. This will be a tough game to win on the road. I'll play it later.

18:54 - Detrick and McCurry each get a foul on Tobias with nice drives into the lane. Tobias will sit. We are tied at 2.

18:02 - They steal it and Guinn throws a beautiful pass to Holden for a huge alley-oop that has their crowd going crazy.

17:24 - Holden beats Blizzard off the dribble for a dunk and the foul. They are up 8-3.

16:15 - McCurry with a 3 to end a 8-0 run. We are down 11-6.

15:58 - Blizzard picks up his 2nd foul on a good move by Holden. I'll bring in Pait.

15:14 - Detrick finds Pait for a quick 3, but Holden easily beats Pait off the dribble at the other end. 14-9.

14:12 - After Boxley misses a shot, Holden beats Pait again. Holden is dominating us and I'm thinking about switching up to a zone..

12:21 - Pait with another 3 and McCurry with a 12 footer. We are down 16-14.

10:07 - Holden has tired/slowed down. Time to try our experimental lineup as we have no true backup C. Didlake, Humphrey, Pait, Boxley, and Mendoza. We are down 21-20.

7:14 - It's a smash! Mendoza is giving Byerson fits in the high post. We lead 30-23.

6:19 - Holden draws another foul on Pait. We lead 33-28.

4:02 - Pait is struggling badly with Holden, but on the other end he is on fire and has just now missed for the first time today. He's exhausted. Boxley is also tired. I get them both a break. My lineup to finish the half: Detrick McCurry, Humphrey, Mendoza, and Enzweiler. We are up 41-33.

Halftime: Our offense really clicked after the first few minutes. We are up 49-37!

McCurry is the player of the half with 13 points.

Detrick with 10 points and 3 assists.

Pait leads the bench with 11 points and 3 assists.

We start the 2nd half with our initial starting lineup.

15:55 - Full blown track meet and McCurry is on fire. A pair of 3's and a dunk. We are up 61-46.

McCurry posts his man up and then hits a fadeaway jumper. He can't be stopped.

Holden with a pair of 3's. We had been slowing him down, but he is heating up again. Blizzard posts Holden up and gets the 1st foul of the game on him.

9:00 - Detrick and McCurry have run them out of the game. We are up 73-55 as I rest all of my starters except for Boxley. Mendoza will play C again.

5:05 - Pait has gone cold in the 2nd half, but it doesn't matter. Stanford's will seems to be broken. We lead 78-60.

2:52 - I get Novakovic and Lang into the game. We are lead 80-64 as Mendoza has been brilliant at C in this motion offense.

Finn has scored 6 points in the last 4 minutes, but my starters did a great job to hold him scoreless the first 34 minutes of the game. So much for the super frosh.

Pait hits 2 3's in the last 90 seconds.

We win the game 86-67. Huge road win! Our team has really been coming together off the court and it is finally showing up.

Actually, I take that back about us doing a great job against their FR PG. While we held him to 3 of 8 shooting and he only had 6 points. He had 10 assists and 0 turnovers!

Holden with 26 points against us on 11 of 17 shooting.

Guinn with 14 and Byerson with 11 against us.

McCurry was the player of the game. He had a spectacular shooting night and finished with 28 points, 2 boards, and 3 turnovers. He shot 10 of 12, 4 of 6, and 4 of 6.

Detrick with 13 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 1 turnover. He shot 3 of 8, 3 of 6, and 4 of 4.

Blizzard with 2 points and 3 boards on 1 of 6 shooting.

Boxley with 10 points, 1 board, and 1 block. He shot 5 of 7.

Pait led the bench with 19 points, 3 boards, and 3 assists. He shot 6 of 11, 5 of 10, and 2 of 2.

Mendoza with 5 points and 6 assists as he did a great job off the dribble against their center.

Hopefully, we can build some strong momentum off this win.

We rise to 9th in the media poll. Stanford is 5th. Maybe that win will convince Wooten to choose us over Stanford.

We host Oregon State. They are 10-6. Our roster strength is now up to 95. Theirs is 85. Our team unity is also much better.

We beat them 90-57.

Boxley led the team with 23 points. Blizzard with 21 points and 7 boards. A few guys with 9 or 10 points: McCurry, Enzweiler, Mendoza, and Didlake.

Our next game is hosting Oregon and we have 1 of the kids that has a scholarship offer visiting during the game. Oregon is 13-4 and 12th in the media poll. We are 11-3 now.

Oregon has two players are D2D with hamstring injuries, but they are both bench players. Oregon's backcourt is the most dangerous in the conference:

SR PG Mitch McLeod is rated 88 overall and is 6'3 192. Best first step in the conference. Great ball handler. Good shooter. Averaging 14.5 ppg and 5.4 apg.

JR SG Clarke Lindeman is 6'9 208 and is rated 90 overall. Projected to be in the top 5 in the NBA draft, I really hope he leaves early. Former 12th ranked player in his class. He a great outside shooter, has tremendous speed and quickness, and is a great dunker. He's also an elite defender now. He's averaging 15 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.7 spg, and 1.2 bpg.

The rest of the starting 5 has a drop off:

JR SF Mensah Norton is 6'7 244 and is rated 82 overall. He is from Alaska. He's a very good shot blocker and a solid post player. He's averaging 9.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 1 bpg.

13:39 - An even, hard fought game so far. McCurry and Lindeman are each making the other work on the defensive end. Each has 1 foul. We are up 10-9.

10:50 - They put Lindeman at PG! Within a minute, Detrick gets a 2nd foul on him. We are up 16-13.

9:40 - Our starters are tired, especially McCurry who had a great first 10 minutes and worked very hard. I go with Didlake, Humphrey, Pait, Boxley, and Mendoza. We are up 18-15.

6:30 - After missing his first 2 3's, Pait with a breakaway dunk. Hopefully, that will get him going. We are up 23-20.

3:18 - Pait is having a quiet half, but Humphrey is stepping up big. We are leading 31-24.

2:20 - I bring back the starters except Mendoza is at PF for the exhausted Boxley. We lead 31-26.

Halftime: We lead 36-30. McCurry, Humphrey, and Detrick have been our main offensive weapons.

Detrick is the player of the half with 9 points, 1 board, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

Humphrey with 8 and McCurry with 5 at the half. McCurry has done a very good job on Lindeman who is 1 of 5. McLeod is their leading scorer with 10 points.

18:50 - Just like that, Lindeman has 2 3's. We lead 38-36.

14:22 - Lindeman had just hit another 3 before McCurry with a strong post up move draws a 3rd foul on Lindeman. We are up 44-39.

13:08 - Boxley draws a 3rd foul on Borchardt. We are leading 48-42.

9:51 - McLeod is keeping them in it. We lead 49-47 as I rest my starters. Lindeman returns, it will be interesting to see what Humphrey (and his height) can do against him..

8:47 - Grimes with his first 3 puts them ahead, 50-49.

7:44 - After we fall down by 3, Pait fakes out his man, spins into the lane, and gets fouled and makes the shot. He misses the FT. We are down 52-51.

Lindeman with a block.

5:18 - Humphrey with a 3 and then Pait with a dunk to give us back the lead. 56-54.

4:04 - Humphrey draws a 4th foul on Lindeman! We go up 59-54.

2:47 - I bring back our starters (except with Mendoza at PF.) We are up 60-58.

1:46 - Mendoza hits a 12 foot open jumper to make it 62-58.

1:26 - McLeod with 2 FT's to make it 62-60.

52 seconds - Mendoza with an offensive board after McCurry misses a 3.

18 seconds - Blizzard misses a 12 footer.

5 seconds left - McCurry steals it from Lindeman and passes it ahead to Detrick who is fouled. Detrick makes both FT's.

We win the game 64-60. Big win.

Detrick is the player of the game with 13 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 turnover. He shot 3 of 7, 1 of 4, and 6 of 7.

McCurry with 9 points, 1 board, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 2 turnovers. He shot 4 of 10, 0 of 3, and 1 of 1. He helped hold Lindeman to 5 of 12 shooting and 15 points.

Blizzard with 10 points, 2 boards, and 1 steal. He shot 3 of 7.

Boxley with 4 points and 7 boards. He shot 1 of 5.

Enzaeiler with 0 points and 8 boards.

Humphrey led the bench with 11 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists. He shot 4 of 7, 3 of 5 from the arc.

Pait with 8 points, 3 boards, and 1 assist. He was 4 of 8 and 0 of 4 from the arc.

Our next game is against the Bruins (11-6) at their arena. I've simmed them the last few years and want to play them, so I'll play that later this week. Here is a preview of their lineup:

SO PG Jayson Rand is from Los Angeles. He is undersized at 5'9 155 and is rated 78 overall. Doesn't thrive in any area, but he has nice ball skills. He is averaging 6.6 ppg and 3.7 apg.

JR SG Reid Byerson is from Inglewood, CA. He is 6'4 207 and is rated 83 overall. He is the fastest player on their roster and the best 3 point shooter, but he hasn't put it all together. He's only averaging 7 ppg.

SO SF Deng Angounou is an immigrant but he played H.S. ball in Los Angeles. He is a 6'7 237 pound SF who is rated 78 overall. He doesn't really excel in any areas. Decent mid range shot. He's averaging 4.8 ppg and 3.4 rpg.

JR PF Corey Douglas is the star of the team. He's 6'9 227 and from Honolulu. He has a very good post game and is a decent outside shooter as well. He's averaging 12 ppg, 6 rpg, and 2 bpg.

SR C Jorge Moye is a skilled large big man at 6'10 278 with an overall rating of 82. He has a refined post game now and they are funneling the offense into him. He's averaging 17.6 ppg, 8.5 rpg, and 0.7 bpg.

The bench is led by SR SG Blair Tsagarakis who is also from Los Angeles. He is 6'3 202 and is rated 83 overall. He's averaging 4 ppg.

SR C Gino Zimmickas is another big man who could give us trouble. He's 7'0 270 and rated 78 overall. He is from Los Angeles, CA. I need to start locking down more of this local talent. He has a nice post game, but is only getting 10 mpg. As a result, he is averaging 4.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg, and 1.4 bpg.

The rest of the bench is in the low to mid 70's.

4:45 - Pait caught on fire, but his defense is getting burnt badly. We are down 40-25 as I bring back the starters.

Halftime: Down 49-34. Not what I was expecting.

Pait leads our team with 9. Mendoza and Enzweiler each have 7.

19:38 - Detrick draws a 3rd foul on Moye.

12:50 - We are down 59-44. I bring in the 2nd unit to rest my starters.

10:02 - They call a timeout as we are on a 10-0 run! Pait with a pair of 3's and Humphrey with a pair of breakaway dunks.

7:52 - The run continues! Pait with a 3 to tie it at 59.

7:34 - Boxley with a steal and they foul him on the breakaway. He hits both FT's to give us the 2 point lead.

6:29 - Rand with a 12 footer to end our run. Pait misses for the first time from the arc, but he gets a steal which leads to an easy basket for Enzweiler. We lead 63-61.

Tsagarakis with a 3. Pait with a nice spin move in the paint for a short jumper. Their center gets fouled and hits both FT's. We are down 66-65.

5:02 - Didlake gets fouled and makes both FT's. Enzweiler with a block at the other end that starts a fastbreak.. they foul Didlake hard.. he's down and holding his ankle. Detrick comes in and makes both FT's. We are up 69-66.

4:42 - Tsagarakis hits another quick 3. We are tied at 69. I bring back Blizzard but put him in at SG. Pait is on fire and will remain in the game for now. All of my other starters come back.

3:30 - Detrick with a 3. We get a stop. Pait fakes out his man and is fouled driving into the lane. He hits 1 of 2. They miss a quick 3. We are up 73-69.

3:10 - Detrick gets into the lane and is fouled. He makes both FT's.

2:00 - Tsagarakis hits another 3. Detrick answers with a 3. We are up 78-72.

1:53 - Enzweiler fouls out. Moye makes both FT's.

1:13 - Detrick misses a 14 footer. They get a fastbreak basket by Deng. We lead 78-76.

1:00 - They foul Detrick. He misses the first FT but makes the 2nd.

45 seconds - Douglas hits a quick jumper.

10 seconds left - Detrick hits a 3 at the buzzer coming off a great screen by Mendoza.

We win the game 82-78. Very satisfying road win.

Pait is the player of the game with 21 points, 2 boards, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. He shot 5 of 6, 4 of 5, and 7 of 8.

We held Douglas to 15 and only 2 in the final 7 minutes.

McCurry with 6 points on 1 of 6 shooting.

Blizzard with 8 points, 4 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 3 of 6.

14:02 - They go to the twin tower offense. I bring in Moye at C, Enzweiler at PF, and Boxley leaves the game. We are down 15-13. Blizzard is finally clicking on the offensive game. He has been brilliant today.

10:58 - Blizzard is exhausted. I go to our 2nd unit except I keep Enzweiler in at PF for now.

7:00 - They rest both centers. I get Mendoza into the game and rest Enzweiler. We are down 25-21.

5:45 - Moye draws a 2nd foul on Weaver. Cole returns to the game at C. We are down 26-24.

Moye is holding his own vs Hanson.

Halftime: We are down 33-30.

Blizzard leads our team with 11 points. Moye is 2nd with 6. I think about starting the 2nd half with Moye in the game, but he is still tired even after halftime.

19:11 - On the fastbreak, Blizzard gets a 3rd foul on Weaver. They go to the twin towers, but I'll leave Boxley in for now. We are up 35-33.

18:06 - Hanson and Enzweiler with a big collision. Enzweiler gets his 3rd foul. Hanson is holding his leg and has to be helped out of the game. We are up 38-36.

15:50 - Hanson returns to the game. We are up 44-38.

14:02 - We are on a 10-0 run. They call timeout. We lead 50-38.

13:39 - Cole with a nice post move to end the run. 50-40.

8:02 - We lead 61-49 as I bring in the 2nd unit.

Pait is missing everything, but Humphrey and Mendoza are getting the job done.

We win the game 77-64.

Blizzard is the player of the game with 25 points, 5 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. He shot 9 of 13, 5 of 7, and 2 of 3. His shot is clearly back on track.
