Noooooooooo! That probably means that they'll be working the Big Ten tournament instead. There's pretty much a consensus that Burr is the worst ref in the conference. |

Great game between UConn and Pitt right now. Not allways pretty but very intense.

I think it would be safe to say the Big East tournament is bringing it again this year. Every year their tournament is just a joy to watch. Kind of the mini NCAA tourny.
And I agree with what has been said about that Rutgers/St Johns game. What an absolutely brutal job of controlling the final seconds of that game by the refs. |

yeah, that was an amazing shot/move. I am certainly not his biggest fan, but that was just beautiful to watch, kind of the ideal game winning shot you make up in your dreams, loosing the defender on a crossover and then hitting the jump shot while everyone can only watch. Pitt propably should have double teamed there, it´s not like Walker would give up the ball there (he did try to last game and it became a TO, won´t do it again this year i´d guess) holy hell, did anyone see the end of regulation in the UVA-MIA game ? Virginia blew a 10 point lead in like the last minute, wow (not high scoring either, Miami had 43 points prior to that). Miami goes on to win in OT. Yeah, McGhee on Walker with under 5-seconds left is not the match up that Pitt wants there. Kind of funny that they were mentioning that the Pitt folks felt like McGhee should have been DPOY in the East and he got eaten up like that (not that it was his fault -- I assume it was a bad switch). In any case, that sequence is going to be part of BE Tourney highlights for quite some time, I imagine. |

It was pretty insane. Miami made only two field goals in the first 18 minutes of the second half... 42 seconds to go, Virginia makes it 53-43 at the fT line 35 seconds to go, Miami hits a 3, 53-46 32 seconds, UVA misses two free throws 23 seconds, Miami hits another 3, 53-49 21 seconds to go, Virginia inbounds the ball, then throws it out of bounds 19 seconds to go, easy dunk off inbounds pass, 53-51 14 seconds, UVA inbounded the ball, got trapped and burned a timeout. On their next inbounds pass they threw it away under the basket, Miami recovered and hit a layup 10-0 run in 28 seconds. |

That was a very entertaining first two games today at MSG. It's been a great run at the end of the season for Syracuse, and Fab Melo picked a great time to have his best game of the season (and Jim Boeheim picked a great time to rely on him - seemingly out of nowhere). The fact that Boeheim hasn't killed Melo's confidence with the quick hooks all year is a great sign for Melo's future there.

Crap- was watching the Michigan State-Iowa game on ESPN3 and forgot that was happening a couple of blocks from where I work in Indy
I should try to get tickets for one of the sessions tomorrow night. Again, have always wanted to go to a major conference tournament so, saving that, there's the Big 10 here SI

They have to play Purdue next and only a win will guarantee them being in. If they lose, it's a coin flip. This isn't a team that's end putting in an end run that makes you believe that if they get into the tourney they can make a run. They are still 3-9 against the top 50. Their biggest road win I think is Northwestern. As nice of a story Michigan is, State still went 0-2 against them. It would be a triumph if they made it to the Sweet 16. I can understand dealing with colds, injuries, and various things, but this team hasn't ever really shown it has the mental make up to live up to it's hype, or be anything, but a .500 Big 10 team.

As a fan of a probable 5-6 seed, I really, really do not want to have to play Michigan State in the opening round of the tournament.
No matter how bad/mediocre their team has been, you know they have a ton of talent and one of (if not "the") the best coaches in all of basketball. Last edited by Swaggs : 03-10-2011 at 08:47 PM. |

That crossed my mind earlier this afternoon, Swaggs. Every year when filling out brackets there are a small number of teams that I tend to ponder giving them that extra round or two for different "intangibles." Michigan State is pretty much example #1 of that factor. If I were to pick a coach that I want to lead my team in March there is a strong case for Tom Izzo. When filling out this years bracket it's going to be tough to place them. They very well could be a first round exit.... but it's Izzo.

I've met Paul Hewitt a few times and he's a very nice man. But, bad luck, bad coaching, bad management or recruiting, I really hope his time is done.
Now it is on to more important things, like the Ivy League Play in Game. |

All 3 of the teams I follow are tipping in the next couple of hours.
Dayton gets the chance to be knocked out of the A10 tournament in 4 of the last 5 years by Xavier. I can't honestly say I'm pumped for this game, I expect UD to stay close yet find a way to lose in the end, much like they have many games this season. Ohio State shouldn't have a problem with Northwestern. Clemson needs a win over Boston College to get in the NCAA tournament. Despite Lunardi having them safely in the bracket (or at least above the "Last 4 In"), I have looked at their numbers and I am not so sure. RPI is at 60, SOS is between 50 and 100. Top 50 record is something like 2-5. I don't have the same faith he does that they are in. Bonus of them being one of the last 4 in to me, would be a chance to see them in the First 4 here in Dayton... so I am almost rooting for them to just scrape in so I can get tix for this next week.

That's why they play the games. If 23 wins and a top 30 RPI/NCAA bid is bad in a building year, give me more of that. How quickly we forget what 'not good' really is. |

BIG news for Mizzou fans this morning. Local KC sports radio is reporting that Otto Porter and Ben McLemore have both verbally committed to Mizzou. Landing two of the top 50 nationally ranked recruits on the same weekend, both from Missouri, is a nice consolation prize for what happened last night. Taking a kid that was considered a huge KU lean is even sweeter. |

I'm a big Mizzou homer, but their wins this year just don't impress me much. I can count 5 or 6 good ones, but they look horrible on the road and shouldn't be losing as bad as they have to teams like Texas A&M. Put it this way.. I would be happy to play against them in the tourney if I was the fan of another team who drew them in the first round. |

Another good Nate Silver sports article. : In N.C.A.A. Tournament, Overachievers Often Disappoint - NYTimes.com

Very interesting. I would have thought Syracuse in 2003 would have been an exception there but they just missed - unraked in the pre-season, and then up to #13 before the tournament and then winning it as a 3 seed. Last edited by molson : 03-11-2011 at 03:20 PM. |

I don't have any idea what to make of the UNC game today. The turned it over 11 times in the first 10 minutes and fell behind by 19... then came roaring back and won on a last second layup by Tyler Zeller, their only lead of the game. Roy pulled the starters, then pulled the backups and let the walkons play a couple minutes in the first half in disgust at the awful performance.
For about 30 minutes I would have thought Larry Drew was running the team, shades of the Ga Tech debacle a couple months back. Miami really let Carolina come back, they started running clock way too early and there were like 5 possessions in a row where Miami had shot clock violations or put up awful, awful shots with 2 seconds left on the shot clock. |

Michigan comes back from down 12 in the second half to beat Illinois and lock up a bid to the Big Dance. OSU is next and they played into OT, so it will be interesting to see what OSU has in the tank. Michigan has been close with them so something small like them playing an extra long game might be enough for the upset. It would likely get Michigan a better seed, and who knows, maybe they could pull off something in the 8-9 seed area and that's good enough to give them a decent chance at a first round win. Michigan at one point was a 12 seed lock. Even if the 5-12 match up is known for the 12th seed winning, I would rather not count on it.

Solid win for UNLV over Air Force last night. Our rebounding and post play continue to be problems overall, though. We really need our perimeter game and defense to be on if we want to win in the Big Dance.

Nolan Smith for Duke just went down. Looks to be foot/ankle. Hopefully it's just a minor injury. He was putting very little pressure on said foot, but he was at least limping off on his own.
