One of the main reasons that I considered the series to be elevated in the realm of fantasy is due to GRRM shifting our POV's (literally & figuratively). Jamie becoming a character we loath (even more than in the show because we are never shown his POV) to a character we root for.

I was hesitant to read the books because I hatehatehate fantasy. Have tried other books many times over the years, and have never made it more than 100 or so pages in. If it weren't for the strength of the first season of the TV series I never would've tried it.

ASoIaF is really just an incredibly well written (...with the exception of 1 of the books) historical/political/character-driven drama that happens to take place in a low(ish) fantasy setting.

Dragons looked frigging awesome this week. I want one!

There was a lot of relationship-y stuff in this episode. I was surprised that THIS was the episode GRRM chose to write this year...it didn't seem as strong as the episodes that he wrote the past two years.

Not bad by any stretch or anything - Dany was badass, and her scenes could probably basically singlehandedly save any episode when they're that good. I'm liking her a lot more in the TV show than in the books TBH.

So glad what's not just you?

Yeah...enough of the torture-porn. We get it.

I understand they want to keep Alfie Allen occupied and all, but couldn't we maybe just show him...not being tortured and being in mental anguish in solitude dealing with the results of the torture?

Yeah, last week wasn't the strongest installment of the season.

While Jaime and Brienne continue to kill it, the actual bear pit scene was pretty weak.

There was far too much in terms of romance. Writing romance/sex type scenes is not Martin's strong suit as a writer, so it was a bit disappointing to have so much of it in the episode he wrote.

The Theon scenes have crossed the line into pointless torture porn. At first it was interesting and mysterious, but it's crossed the line into the gratuitous. There is no advancement at all in term of character and plot, just a parade of more horribles.

Three more episodes. Looking for a strong end to the season!

I'm glad to hear this. One of my biggest beefs about season one, as a guy who loves the books, is that I felt they started making Jaime sympathetic way too early. In the books you despise him for a thousand pages, and are sure he's the villain of the piece. In the series it didn't seem to me they were doing that. So I'm glad to see viewers are still getting that sense of a 180.

Most surprising to me is reading that some people are feeling bad for Theon. Really? He hasn't gotten anything he didn't richly earn...

Well, he did show remorse when he said that his true father lost his head in King's landing. And that he made his choice and he chose wrong... And now he is paying the iron price.

You just know how much of a hateable character Joffrey is, when people hated him more than the guy who pushed a kid out of a tower.

Also looking forward to episode 10, which I presume will feature a wedding in KL.

I think they didn't give enough time to Tyrion being unable to put the cloak on Sansa. I liked the twist of having Joffrey intentionally remove the stepstool, but what was a brutal scene in the books seemed like a quick 'let's make fun of the midget' scene in the show. They also completely skipped out on Sansa knowingly making Tyrion feel awkward.

Yeah - that was a great scene in the book that they glossed-over in the show in favor of the antics at the reception.

When I read the article, which was 20 mins after the last episode, my first thoughts were "well, looks like they are going to milk it while they can...".

This "gossip" article refutes the claims.

If it was the actress who played Ros, a good time to make such a stand, considering her character is dead and all.

I thought they might have killed her off because she took the stand.

They hired her to be "fan service."
When she decided she didn't want to do it anymore, they wrote her out of the show.

Not as...chaotic as I read it in the books, but I also think that having read it the first time that probably nothing they could have filmed would have lived up to how it played out in my mind that first "holy shit" time.
