I look forward to reading this thread
And I hope that it never goes dead
With the riot that's in it
It's a damned laugh a minute
And I can't get it out of my head

Oh, this thread that together we've pieced
Simultaneous beauty and beast
And there's no need to fear
Since the quality here
Should explode once the game is released

QS wins by default as his are actual limericks. Correct meter, etc.

Limericks are very serious business, people.

We all know that this poser can't stand
In this contest, that he is outmanned
Johnny Galt tries his best
But his work fails the test

I think I'm too dumb to give this the credit it deserves...

What does Ayn Rand have to do with anything?

the top ten myths about Canada and Canadians are pretty funny/crazy

Quote:
  1. We live in igloos. We live in houses, and they are very well built houses.

  2. Canadians do not have the same technology as Americans. Canadians have access to the
same technology as Americans and the rest of the civilized world.

  3. There is snow everywhere all year long. Anyone who has spent a summer in Vancouver,
Toronto, or Montreal will strongly disagree with this.

  4. We don't get the same movies Americans do. We get the same movies, on the same day,
and our censorship is less severe. Furthermore, the Paramount theater in Montreal is
the most attended and most lucrative movie theater in North-America.

  5. Canada does not have a film industry. We have a thriving film industry, and many of the
syndicated US TV shows, not to mention major studio motion pictures are filmed here. Canada is
renowned to have some of the best production crews in the world.

  6. Canadians all say "eh" and "aboot". Sure, some of us do, but Canada is a big country with
many different people who speak many different languages with different dialects.

  7. Everyone in Quebec speaks French. Although a large percentage of the Province's
population is Francophone, there is also a large number of Anglophones and Allophones.

  8. Canadians have fewer guns than Americans. Canadians have just as many, if not more; we just
have fewer murders. If you want stats and figures, see Michael Moore's excellent documentary, Bowling for Columbine.

  9. Canada's national sport is Hockey. Not completely true. While Hockey is very popular, and considered
our national pastime, our national sport is Lacrosse. Oh, and we invented Baseball too.

In 1994, the Federal Government introduced Bill C-212 that officially made Hockey Canada’s National Winter Sport and Lacrosse Canada’s National Summer Sport. Thanks Rolly! So the answer is both!

  10. Canadians policemen are all Mounties dressed in red uniforms. Our cops are the same
as American cops. The Mounties usually only dress up in red for for special occasions.

You've only got cites to fiction
You're going down is my prediction
With rhymes like Shorty
Drunk off his forty
You're like your misfit toys addiction

Just fragments of leftover junk
No puzzles here to beat me, punk
So spew your babble
You might win at scrabble
But what you rhyme, I will just debunk

ok, this thread now has everything. seriously, i thought our first victim (sov) getting boxed was the ultimate culmination, collateral damage from all the frenzy and hysteria.

but no.

we actually have a Limmerick-Off.

a blipping Limmerick-Off.

QS and John Galt are giants among men. i tip my figurative cap to you both. i picture a very white version of 8Mile in my head when i was reading their last few limmericks.

when QS busted out with "Funny name pal, give props to Ayn Rand" i imagined all the upscale cognoscenti jumping out of their seats going "Ohhhhh snap!!!"

well done, all.

It's so easy to see you're a cheater
Taking shortcuts with rhyme and with meter
I thought this was a fight
But it doesn't feel right
When you're just playing follow the leader

So assume the position at once
And bow down before me, you dunce
It's so clear than I reign
That you'll hardly complain
As I crush you like all other runts

Kickstand's gone and cited the rules
Yet look at your rhymes - we're no fools
They are playing loose
There's meter abuse
What I got you don't learn in skoolz

Organic intellectual - that's me
I'm whoopin your butt, we all agree
I'm flying so high
Noone here can deny
Look, see my name on the marquee

It's time to finish this silly game
What you have offered is so lame
I've got bigger fish
Yeah, I'm the commish
I'm the rhyming king, they all proclaim

So, I pull your plug from the wall
Powerdown QS, you're nothing at all
You have tried to win
But to your chagrin
At the end of it now, I stand tall

edit: damn it, I see I have already been declared the loser.

This limmerick-off is one of the best things in FOFC history...

It needs it's own thread and tournament pairings...

Going along the lines of the astonishing number of views...did a bit of number-running and figured out that at the rate things are going, this thread will catch up with the reference thread sometime in early April.

Of course, that's based on the lifetimes of both threads. I think this thread just exploded in the last week and couldn't guess how many views per day it's getting right now. It has averaged 515 views/day since it started at the end of December, but I daresay that that count was much, much lower before the alleged release date and much much higher now.

It won't happen in April if the game is released before then...

It's ok. I think one or two others tried to claim that it was earlier in the thread, but it wasn't yet. They probably didn't have "view all threads" enabled, but were instead looking at the last x days (I think 30 days is the default)/

Missed the limerick contest. Drat.

Can I go old school?

David is the Winter of our discontent
As we anticipate unfinished Master Gold;
As Matrice's frustrated wills are bent
Convincing all this crap will soon be sold.

Official fora teem with forlorn souls
Banking upon a dubious engine physic;
While we of rectal trout and Kodos' polls
Prefer an algorithym Solecismic.

An abundance of features this game lacks,
But modders are Wintervalley's fondest hope,
To implement workarounds and sundry hacks
That lay abandoned for the rouge by this dope.

Benighted fools, your hearts will surely sadden!
Thinkest thou this toy will unseat Madden?

Are you threatening me because I think a game will do well? That is sad. Besides, you can't kill a Vulcan. Sure, you may think hes dead, but then in the sequel the Captain will clear up the conspiracy and find out he is really alive. Speaking of movies, I've had enough of the negativity around here. I am going to go watch Look Who's Talking, which just came on, for some laughs.

Can't wait until this game lands on my computer!
