It's a shame, because the "root for the underdog" person in me wants to root for Ghana. They've looked dangerous so far.

Gotcha - I couldn't remember if Ghana played Germany last time around.

Regardless - I imagine they're the only set of brothers that ever have.

According to the broadcast they are the only brothers to face each other.

Weird game so far, seems like the german team has a ton of respect for the climate, trying to conserve energy. Too many mistakes defensively, on offense Götze too indecicive and does not read the hole and also does not fight for the ball.

weird change now. Why take 2 wing backs (Durm and Großkreutz) when you don´t use them and rather bring another CB against a quick and counter attacking team ?

Nice answer by Ghana.

As much as a German win is good for USA it's nice to see quality play from an African side.

Beautiful cross.

nothing better than bringing in a CB as right back for more stability and safety on high balls, then said CB does not bother to jump on the first cross coming his way ...

Khedira is not in any shape to play a featured role at a World Cup, as much as i like him personally.

As was that (almost 3-1).

Which of these teams is a WC favorite again?? Because over the last 10 minutes you'd say it was the guys in red...

One of the most entertaining games so far this tournament. And I'm not convinced the scoring is over yet.

this was like a heavyweight boxing fight, fitting that we get a bloody player at the end ... Hope Müller is allright ...

What a disapointing game by the german team. In the last few minutes Özil was terrible beyond believe, unbelievable ...

Really good second half.

It's been a good tournament from what I've seen, and although there have been a couple of dodgy pens, the refereeing has had a lot to do with it. Fewer bookings, more leniency than usual, and the games have flowed as a result.

Man that was a really exciting match, but it makes the situation for the US so much scarier. One of the big reasons that a US/Portugal draw would have been wonderful for the US was the hope that Germany would have nothing to play for in the 3rd game, and Ghana would have been eliminated so Portugal's awful goal differential would have helped us out a ton... now, a draw is terrifying. Just beat Portugal, plz!

Hope in the next game Lahm goes back to RB (he just is not physichal enough in the center in a non-Guardiola system) and Schweinsteiger and Khedira start the game.

Klose should continue off the bench though probably. Happy for him, too bad he did not make the 2nd one. Still a very good game by him, also his defensive efforts can´t be stressed enough with how terrible Özil is in that regard.

Double draw puts the USA through, regardless of the Ghana-Portugal result.

Totally agree. If Schweinsteiger is in form we need him at holding mid. Bring Klose on at 60' or so.

Yeah, but are we drawing against a pissed off German team who has a little something to play for? I don't like it. I don't like it one bit. We need to beat Portugal and make the last game academic.

You mean assuming we draw against Germany?

I'm far from willing to make that assumption particularly as Troy says, if Germany has anything at all to play for.

As I posted above, in that scenario Germany has close to nothing to play for. A draw vs. the USA would still make them group winners.

I also hope that Löw gambles a little bit and brings in a few fresh players against the US. Not meant as a slight, but if the goal is to win a title you need to win and keep some players legs fresh at the same time eventually.

Take Mertesacker out for a game, Höwedes as well (and put Boateng in the center and Durm at left so that we have 2 Bayern guys and 2 Dortmund guys next to each other to counter the lack of cohesion). And as said, the other changes further up the pitch.

All in all, the result today is great for the USA, as it means a win vs. Portugal now means qualification for the second round. And the draw gets both (Germany and the USA) through scenario also applies.

If course if we shit the bed against Germany now we're in trouble depending on how Ghana-Portugal goes...
