I am literally shivering at the end of Chapter 3 of Higurashi. I blame the fan pointed at my knees....but I know otherwise.

EDIT - Bout 3 hours into episode/chapter 4. Good stuff. The first four chapters are known as the Problems or Questions Arc, and the last four are packaged as the Answers Arc. If that makes sense . Each Episode lasts 7-8 hours of reading, and was released individually. The game was so successful tat an Amine and manga followed in Japan., and the Anime in particularly is highly regarded.

I found it when looking for good Visual Novels to continue since I've been doing a bunch of them over the last two weeks or so. After becoming comfortable with the genre a few months ago, I picked up another VN and enjoyed the heck out of it a lot more than I expected. It was a typical romance, high school, Japanese thing with many of the archetypes engaged. Anyway, I liked it enough to grab another VN - If My Heart Had Wings, and enjoyed it too. Then I moved to some quicker ones, including awesome, emotional, and very quick Planetarian. I have been doing research on them, because the genre has been around so long that there are a variety of really top quality games and franchise out there to delve into.

So, for example, take this poll on Reddit, among readers fo VNs and their fans:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/top...r-visualnovels

You can see a variety of genres there.

You might note that 07 on that list is Umineko: When They Cry a sort of spiritual successor for Higurashi When they Cry, which the company did earlier and put them on the map. I grabbed Higurashi's chapter 1 on Steam and played it through and stayed up late to finish it. It's a fun murder mystery that a group of five friends in school are going to try to solve. Eventually after some hardships, you reconcile and begin to solve the recent murder. Chapter 2 and 3 retell the same events, but with different antagonists, and you delve into the village, the people, and more in a variety of interesting ways, and each chapter is opening up more and more questions, sort of like lost. In chapter 4, it seems the game has pushed back 5 years and now I'm a police officer investigating criminal activities in the village.

The original games has graphics that sometimes look like they were done on MSPaint, (the first game was 2002) and yet it still is one of the most moody, interesting, and spooky games I've played (and the first chapter is a remix with new graphics, that's the one on Steam). But I'm in. I want to finish Chapter 4 today, and then find and complete chapter 5 tomorrow.

My daughter was playing "The Dungeon" board game with a couple of peers a bit ago. It was pretty cool (from my perspective), she was asking about what her magic sword did over lunch and I tried to answer her question of what Dungeons and Dragons is.

I like that alignment has come into play more in this version of the Dungeon. I probably avoided another Death by finding a room where Neutral Silver Claw avoided having to fight 3 Efreet...who were torturing a Djinn...Of course now I get no xp or treasure for it either. At least I cam sell a couple things this time to get some money

Thomkal, I'm assuming you came from the room I haven't visited off the Efreet/djinn room. If so, if you go left you would be in my room (let me know your exits if so). If you want to join up, let's buy horses, I'll wait for you at movement tomorrow, and then we can venture forth during the afternoon.
