Doesn't even take that, just give them a 30 year old who has never played in the majors, an injured reliever, and mediocre A ball pitcher and you can have Freeman and the best remaining outfield prospect.

I was really referencing the players we sent you for Gattis, none of whom seem to be doing much of anything positive for their teams this year.

So my best friend just made me aware of the best trade ever.

In 1980, the Yankees sent Brad Gulden and $150,000 to the Mariners for Larry Milbourne and a player to be named later.

In 1981, the Mariners completed the trade by sending the Yankees...Brad Gulden.

He's the only player ever to have been traded for himself.

I'll really miss Carlos Gomez. One of a kind player that gives his all 100 percent of the time. Watching him blossom into the player he has become was a real pleasure.

That said, I really like the return and am pretty happy the Mets deal fell through.

Fiers is a nice pitcher. Not a hard thrower but he gets good results through deception.

I went researching this and there are some gray areas...

Dickie Noles was technically loaned from the Tigers to the Cubs and then returned. So not traded.

Harry Chiti was bought and sold both times to technically not traded.

John McDonald was part of three different conditional trades and ended up back where he started so I think he qualifies as does Gulden.

Wait a minute. The $62million dollar guy is THIRTY?

You gotta be kidding me.

And in Cuban player years that means he's probably 47.

Somehow the Dodgers got the two best current major leaguers (Latos, Wood) and the best prospect in the deal (Peraza). Jim Johnson and Avilan also strengthen their bullpen. And they gave up essentially nothing but money. They didnt really have a spot for Olivera anyway and outbid the braves for him.

Giants give up SP Keury Mella (by most accounts their #1 or 2 prospect) and 1B/3B Adam Duvall. Mella has some pretty good upside, but a funky delivery and is still only in A+ ball. Duvall has an .800+ OPS this season in AAA, but is a horrible defender and is your prototypical 'AAAA' type player.

Leake is a flyball pitcher who's been pitching pretty ok in Cincy, so you'd think that he would fare well at AT&T Park. Seems like a pretty steep price to pay for an average pitcher who is a free agent in 12 weeks.

He is from California so he might get talked into staying there after this season. I think he actually has the potential to be a #2 if he can just become more consistent. I think Reds got a a nice pitcher in return but really, it's probably a pretty fair deal.

Hope Reds can find a way to move Chapman, Bruce, and Phillips (somehow) today and do as well as they have on their first two deals but would like them to find some position players too.

Now that they've got some pitching help, I'm pretty excited about the rest of the Jays' season! They gave up some nice prospects, but hopefully this leads to the playoffs. It's been too long.

I like Bruce as a second option but he really is far below Gomez in terms of fit. Mets needed someone who could play CF, and needed a right handed bat.

I'm really excited for this run the Astros are making and the fact that they're going all in. I think Gomez will give us a great outfield once Springer is back from his injury, and I'm glad to have him on the team.

Fiers looks like he could be a nice 4/5 guy for us as we're built now...you can't have too much pitching depth.

I hate to see Phillips go, I think he's got a change to be tremendous. He has really exploded this year in High-A and AA and has been an exciting player to follow.

Santana has been great in MiLB, but hasn't really put it together his during his couple cups of coffee. I'll be rooting for him to show what he can really do for you guys.

Hader exploded out of nowhere last year in High-A, and has been solid this year in AA. I think he has potential to be a decent SP, but likely won't ever be more than a 3, tops.

Nice doing business with y'all, and how about that Astros sweep of the Angels!

The Rangers-Phillies trade is now official. I was getting a touch nervous that they hadn't made the formal announcement.

Seems like the Bruce/Mets deal might be dead. If the Reds trade him, they better get a lot more than Wheeler. In this era, a 28 year old OF with a >.800OPS and two years of control should be worth a ton.

If I were the Reds I would be thrilled to get Wheeler in return for Bruce. Talk about team control - Wheeler won't be a FA until 2020.

I think it's a case of the Mets wouldn't make that trade if Wheeler was healthy but the Reds are hesitant of a 1-for-1 trade because of the Tommy John

Bruce is easily a top ten outfielder in the NL, I don't expect Wheeler to be a top ten pitcher right away. The Reds also have lots of potential pitchers with DeSclafani, Lamb, Finnegan, Iglesias, Lorenzon, Stephenson, Moscot, Holmberg, and Cingrani all in the mix for the four available starter spots next year and another group coming in 2017. Meanwhile the Reds have basically no one coming that can be a consistent 30 HR guy the way Bruce is.

If the package is great I'd trade him, but an injured pitcher with great potential isn't going to be enough when they can just hold on to him for the next two years.

Agree. It would certainly be riskier from Cincy's side, but that seems like a fair return between Wheeler's proven MLB performance and years of control. And it's not like Jay Bruce is completely without risk - looks like a fluke, but he was atrocious last season, and I don't recall hearing any nagging injury excuse (though I don't follow Cincy closely).

It was an injury. He had knee surgery in early May 2014 and never had the time to rest and heal during the season.

@BNightengale: The #Dbacks package for #Reds consists of prized RHP prospect Braden Shipley and one or two more of Top 10 prospects for #Reds #Chapman.

Wonder what Walt expects for Chapman if that wasn't enough.

Fulmer and Cessa went for Cespedes. Fulmer is considered a very good prospect but well worth adding Cespedes, even as a rental.

Bumgarner gave up a lot of loud contact early. 6 runs in the first two frames, then went 5 scoreless.

Mike Zunino is batting a red hot .286 since the break bringing his average up to .181 and his OPS to .556

Zunino has had months of .129 and .130 this year and still gets run out there to play almost every day.

Rizzo, 4 games in a row w a homerun.

I know he's just a rookie but Kris Bryant needs to figure his shit out and start making better contact, the Cubs need his offense. Soler seems to be figuring it out a little more lately. The Cubs offense kinda stinks, but at least they've been patient at the plate and get on base via the walk more often than most teams in baseball. They just can't knock 'em in.

I thought the whole thing was dumb. Is that umpire known to be a moron, or can someone explain to me what happened there? Warning given to both teams early... Then another two jays get thrown at (might have the number wrong) and one more gets hit (I think Donaldson was thrown at two or three times, being hit once)... I think it was tulo and Donaldson being thrown at and hit each time.

No royals thrown out, but gibbons gets thrown out when he wants to argue. And then Sanchez gets thrown out for throwing at the royals half an inning later. What was the point of warning the royals early if it meant nothing?

Liked the royals pitcher (volquez?) doing the cry baby motion to Donaldson... What an idiot. I wanna see him bat in an nl game and get plunked lol.

Up and in on the ribs is a typical place pitchers go to send a message. I don't believe for a second that the pitch wasn't on purpose. Why the Royals kept going in on him after that I don't know. I don't know if there's history or if it's just the Royals being the Royals.

Either way, the Royals continue to be the easiest team to dislike in baseball.
