When I saw the trailer I thought it was going to be terrible, but last weekend I was in bed most of it with a migraine and had nothing else to watch. Ended up binging the whole series.

I still wouldn't say I loved it (gave it 3/5 on Netflix), but it exceeded my expectations.

And I finally got around to watching BoJack Horseman. Glad I waited so that I had 3 seasons of content. Took a few episodes to get going for me, but I loved it and each season was better than one before. It certainly doesn't pull any punches.

Absolutely agree. Love this!

Funniest episode by far is the one with Patton Oswald playing the navy seal that accuses bojack of stealing his muffins. However, the show really really explores adult depression and selfdestructiveness in its many forms in very touching ways. Of course surrounded by really funny writing and performances. And that 4th episode of season 3. Where he's underwater and doesn't talk for the entire episode...is....wow phenomenal.

Tried to watch Ultimate Beastmaster to tide my daughter over until Ninja Warrior is back. Such a bad show. Talk about taking a simple concept and needlessly complicate it. Plus you only really get to see the last 1-2 obstacles of a person's run. So bad.

New Netflix original movie The Discovery is worth watching. A scientist has proven there's an afterlife triggering a wave of suicides by people wanting to get there.

A thinker, not an action movie, but a solid 7.5/10.

Don't know if this is on Netflix or not. The Returned or Les Revenants is an awesome show about dead people returning to their homes in a small mountain community. The Returned opens in a small mountain community which is rocked to its core when several local people who are presumed dead suddenly re-appear at their homes. Despite having passed away some years earlier, these ghostly characters appear in human form, they have not aged, and they are completely unaware of their own fatality. Determined to reclaim their lives and start over, they slowly come to realize that they are not the only ones to have been brought back from the dead. Their return augers torment for their community when a gruesome murder attempt bears a chilling resemblance to the work of a serial killer from the past. This is a homecoming like no other. Awesome show so far!

First two episodes drew me in, then I thought the middle was meh. At that point I had put too much time into it not to finish, and luckily it got much better at the end. I'm curious what you think of the finish.

My wife watched the first couple of episodes of 13 Reasons Why over the weekend. I half tuned-in, but it didn't really grab me. It's a good idea, I just thought the execution was a bit heavy-handed.

I finished season 1 of Black Mirror over the weekend. Wow, what a headfuck that is. I thought episode 3 in particular was scary in how close we seem to be to a place where something like this could quite easily happen.

I was in the same boat. I was blown away by it and it just seemed to get better and better to me.

I was surprised at how realistic it was. The debate on if it glorifies suicide is interesting as it seems to be getting some backlash

Happy Valley is a BBC police drama, with two seasons pulled over for Netflix. Pretty reminiscent of The Killing, and similarly well done. I have finished the first season (only six one hour episodes) and it was very deep and rewarding. Good stuff.

Gonna spoiler tag everything, answering the specific thing here and some quick general thoughts.

Specifically regarding the end, it didn't feel like a PSA to me. The ending felt earned and real, and it seems like a natural thing that would come up if you were confronted firsthand with all of the things that led to someone committing suicide. The idea that you never know what someone else is going through and maybe treating people with just a little more kindness by default could actulaly make a big difference. Not all characters had this realization and it wasn't some campy thing, but it seemed a reasonable result of every character being forced to examine their own behavior as part of this process.


In general I loved the show. The middle did drag on a bit. Zach's episode specifically but a few right around then, their stories weren't enough to solidly carry a full episode.

The biggest issue I had with the show was all of the foreshadowing about Clay's tape. The "just wait til you get to yours." implying that he had done something terrible without realizing it and everyone else knew what it was. Then we get to his and Hannah says on it "you don't belong on these tapes Clay but its too important a part of the story to leave out" It just feels like a huge hole in how a lot of the drama was built up in the story. Clay's episode was still powerful because of the other things happening around him, and because he had to re-live all of those moments... but it was not what the prior episodes had told us it would be, not at all. And that was very weird.

Overall though I really liked it and thought it was pretty powerful. Maybe if I was watching week to week I would have been more annoyed by its flaws.

Second season isn't quite as good but still worth the time. It's actually a Netflix coproduction so we get it at basically the same time as the British.

My current watch is season two of the Great British Bake off, having watched seasons 1 and 3. It is so absolutely delightful. It's also the first show I've watched on Netflix in calendar 2017.

I've enjoyed pretty much every British crime/thriller/drama I've watched on Netflix. Didn't stick with season 2 of the Tunnel, but pretty much everything else has been ace.

MST3K will take some getting used to for me due to all the new players, but it I've enjoyed it a lot. It feels like the original with a fresh coat of a paint.

I've been digging the hell out of MST3K too. It's not Joel or Mike, but it's not far from that IMO. It is at least on par with Rifftrax for me.

I just rewatched both The Barkley Marathons and Inspired to Ride in the past month and still love them as much as the first time I discovered them.

I also watched Finding Traction for the first time and while I loved the concept (ultramarathoner Nikki Kimball attempts to set the Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Long Trail in Vermont), it wasn't as compelling as I had hoped.

I wish Netflix would build out their collection of ultra-endurance documentaries beyond the handful of titles they have, but I also realize that we are talking about a pretty small niche here.

For those who haven't watched the Barkley Marathons, it is worth the 90 minutes, even if you aren't a runner, hiker, or any other sort of outdoorsman. Laz is such a compelling character and it is a great story.

I'm guessing that streaming only people tend to either binge shows or watch something beyond the typical big budget films. I've watched a ton of documentaries and quite a few movies that I hadn't heard of before.

I didn't think I'd like this show going in but it's good. I think the best description of it is a romantic comedy for guys. It's funny and I think relatable for a lot of people.
