Ugh. Dempsey up top all isolated is far from our best look.

Nice job on team selection not bringing someone you'd be comfortable playing if Jozy went down Klinsy.

Lets see how this plays out.

This was the exact thing I hoped they would do. Makes the most sense to me. Playing one of the other two up top is worse to me. Hope for a first half goal, sub one on to drop Dempsey back to protect.

Dempsey is in Jozy's spot in the game?

Hope being the operative word with that setup (unless there's some wrinkle we don't yet know about or they've been practicing with it).

Hopefully the US can capitalize on some possible counter-attacks with this setup.

I expect Portugal to come at us hot and heavy.
Back line and Howard will need to be prepared for this.

If this is the case, it could lead to a tired Portuguese team in the second half should the heat and humidity play a factor.

Portugal doesn´t really do "hot and heavy", they are a counter attacking team and employ a similar lineup today as the US with 3 defensive minded central midfielders

I find it highly amusing how high the expectations have gotten for the US all of a sudden.

So, Univision or ESPN. I'm thinking the former, even though I don't speak Spanish.

Thinking we might actually get out of a group where we beat Ghana, Ghana drew Germany, and Portugal not only lost to Germany 0-4 but lost a key defender to red card, especially given how well our qualifying competition has been playing?

I don't see people thinking we'll win this thing all of a sudden, but the group is certainly looking winnable if we play like we can, let alone us getting out of it. Doesn't mean we WILL, we still have to play up to what we're capable of, but it's looking much better than it did at the start of play.

You'll have to excuse some optimism.

Sadly, my prediction is 2-0 Portugal. Good news: I know next to nothing about international soccer!

How about:

How many dives Portugal will have in the first half?

A couple of World Cups ago, Setanta had the German language feed. It was luxury, no graphics on the screen and at least half the games were commentary free.

Outside of the horrible gift goal, US had had the better run of okay this far.

Hopefully we can get this equalizer before half.
