Bad news for Coastal Carolina on the eve of the CWS. Their 2B who has been one of their best players in the post season (had gone 4 for 4 in game 1 of the LSU series) injured his knee in a home plate collision late in the game and missed the other two games. Found out he tore his PCL in his knee and will miss about 3 months. His replacement options are not very good, and has probably limited their chances of winning a game at the CWS.

well first game of the CWS was a real pitcher's duel. The "aces" lived up to their name, especially Oklahoma State's. Complete game for the win 1-0. Sorry Vince! Second game underway, Arizona already out to a 3-0 lead in the first. Crazy inning for Arizona, two hit by pitch and two walks sandwhiched between two outs. Miami was fortunate not to have given up more runs, but threw a guy out after the only hit of the inning, a single, for the third out.

That was rough - had to follow on my phone because I'm out of town for a wedding. The line drive in the second inning seemed like it might have been the biggest missed opportunity - if he doesn't hit it at the defender, that's at least a run, possibly two.

yeah those 1-0 games are a real heartbreak-both teams could have easily won-kinda like Dustin Johnson in major golf tournaments (he's in position to win but will have to overcome a 4 shot lead by Shane Lowry. )

Coach Gilmore by the way gets his biggest honor ever:

Coastal Carolina’s Gilmore named NCBWA Coach of the Year | NCAA.com

So happy for him. Literally built Coastal Carolina baseball from the ground up. Was in a FEMA trailer first 16 or 17 years for an office. Played there, then coached for now 21 years, he definitely bleeds teal. Coached his son there as well. Have to wonder however, despite the move up to the Sun Belt next year, if this is the end for him at Coastal. Has a lot of upper classmen drafted this year, reached the CWS finally-no doubt bigger programs will be interested in him more than ever. Congrats Coach Gilmore!

Battle of Texas at 3pm today, and then in the only game that matters ( ), Coastal Carolina takes on Florida at 8pm.

TCU wins the Battle of Texas, and Coastal off to a great start, even if the umps robbed them of a run. 5 hits so far, all extra-base hits, lead 1-0.

wow, best day ever for Coastal Carolina sports! Johnson wins the US Open, and then the baseball team upsets #1 Florida with a complete-game gem from Andrew Beckwith! 2-1 is the final score.

first rain delay in the world series, just over an hour long, and they have resumed play. UCSB now in the lead 3-1!

Oklahoma State survives the rain delays and Arizona in another pitching gem 1-0. Games today don't start until 5pm and 9pm today for some reason. Kinda wish Coastal was in the earlier game, but I guess that would mean they were in the loser's bracket. so guess I'm okay with the late start Nobody (including me) thought it would be Florida vs Texas Tech in an elimination game today-kinda hope Florida loses, don't want Coastal to play them again.

well Texas Tech had gone winless in its 3 previous CWS, and the streak nearly continued, after giving up a 2 HR in the 9th inning. But that would be all Florida would score, and Texas Tech holds on for the 3-2 win. #1 seed Florida has to be very disappointed-they had the pitching staff of the ages, but their bats were mostly quiet.

Coastal Carolina/TCU up next at 9pm.

What was it I saw earlier? Matched Kansas for fewest runs scored (3, in 2 games) in a CWS by any team since 1993. That would basically be "since any of their roster was born"

Yeah. Thought we had something there in the 8th and 9th, but Arizona's pitching was too much. The double play in the 8th sucked, then the leadoff double and the crucial full-count walk to bring up our power hitter (who hit a walk-off in the regional) with two on, down three, in the bottom of the ninth...

...the power hitter strikes out. The next batter misses a double by inches down the left field line for a foul ball, then strikes out himself. The 'cats finish off the Gauchos with a third straight strikeout and UCSB is done.

Hell of a season, though.

well Coastal and Texas Tech starters didn't make it through three innings, and right now Coastal's closer is in for this elimination game. Coastal has been helped by 3 Texas Tech errors (none for Coastal), and they lead 4-3 in the 5th inning.

Coastal Carolina lives another day! Beat Texas Tech 7-5. Their ace looks like he will be able to go against TCU-if he has a repeat of the game he had against Florida, they could win their side of the bracket!

See ya tomorrow guys! Andrew Beckwith throws two complete game gems, and nearly 140 pitches too in a 4-1 win! He's now 14-1 on the season, and saved the bullpen for the deciding game :::chills:::

wow Arizona just defeated what I thought was the class of college baseball this year, Oklahoma State 5-1 to move on to the championship game of the CWS. Can Coastal Carolina do the same and win two in a row against TCU? Starts at 8pm EST

7-1 in the top of the 5th, Coastal. After leading the college world in homers, this season, they finally hit their first one of the CWS. Cunningham, who lost to TCU earlier in the Series, has looked better tonight so far.

Well Coastal didn't score any runs after the 5th, but TCU did-they kept chipping away and had the tying runs on base in the 9th, but got a double play to end the game. Coastal wins 7-5 and heads to the championship series!

Quite honestly when I saw their side of the bracket, I thought they would be fortunate to win one game. And I would have been ok with that. But they showed tremendous heart battling back from the losers bracket, and deserve to be in the Finals. Someone better check on me if they win it all now

This has been a fun read Thomkal. My son is way into the tournament, though he picked Arizona to get to the CWS at the beginning (and lose to Miami), so he's cast his lot with the Wildcats.

well Coastal ran into an Arizona buzzsaw. Almost everything worked for them tonight and not Coastal. Starting pitcher was tremendous. Arizona wins 3-0. Coastal's starter didn't do badly, lasting 7 innings when I thought he might be gone in the 1st or 2nd. I think their ace Beckwith can go tomorrow, but Arizona's ace might be healthy enough to start too.

Great game from both starters tonight. Both with 10 strikeouts. Mike Morrison, Coastal's normal closer, started for the first time in two years, and threw a career high 100+ pitches. Bullpen from both teams let them down though. But Coastal managed to hang out just barely and force a game 3 5-4!

Feel good about Coastal's chances with their ace Beckwith going tomorrow. Be there, 8pm!

of course I've waited all day for this game...and its in a storm delay. If they play tonight, in a surprise move, Beckwith is not starting. With Morrison starting last night, they need him in the bullpen. Cunningham will start for the Chants.

tarp still on, but teams are beginning to warm up. There's no way I can stay up that late (far removed from my college days when I could do that), so I will get the game update on the NCAA site until I need to go to bed.

Halfway through this game, no score. Just a couple of scoring chances, Arizona has had the better of them. They arguable had a run that should've counted in one inning, but the runner was called out at the plate.

The later it goes, the more nervy it gets!

Holy Crap! That sound you heard was me screaming when he got that last out (on I think a ball). They could have done my heart a favor and not make it so close though! All credit to Arizona for coming back after going down 4-0, and nearly pull it out. And how about Beckwith getting MVP after somehow not being drafted just a few days before? I hope he comes back now though. So happy for Coach Gilmore.

Holy crap, words I'd never thought I'd type in all these years a fan of CCU-National Champions!
