Ive got a few tips.
1. Your handicap only changes when you play 18 holes. Doesnt look like playing any other number affects it, but I am not sure if you havent played any holes yet. 2. Stats - There are three stats that you should become familiar with. Power, Skill and Impact. Stamina is the 4th skill, but it is worthless right now since energy drinks will decrease your fatigue. Power makes your shots go farther, impact makes them go higer, and this causes your balls to bounce less on the greens and also when you are not dead on, your balls will hook and slice less. Skill allows you to put more draw and fade on your ball. A ratio of about 3 power: 2 impact : 2 skill is a pretty good ratio for new players. 3. Clubs Dont bother buying the level 21 clubs, everyone agrees they are worthless. Go for the lvl25 clubs which are 900,000. Everyone says to only get the irons and wedges. There are two types of clubs worth buying I believe +6 power -6 impact, and -6 power +6 impact. decide which clubs you plan to buy, and focus on improving the other stat more to compensate. I dont know the ratios, but they dont match your skill levels. 4. 2 piece vs. 3 piece balls - 2 peice balls are said to be more stable, and 3 piece goes farther. I wouldnt buy 3 piece balls until you reach a higher level, and have more impact skill to compensate. 5. Putters - AFAIK the better putters only seem to increase your range, so this may not be worth upgrading IMO 6. Clouds decrease your range by 10% or so. 8. Use the tab key to show where your ball will land. Use Alt-G to show the slope. If you hit alt-G then hold down just the G key as your let go of Alt, the slope meter will stick. 7. Finally, dont try to overplay, as a beginner your range sucks, and so does your aim. Don't get fancy. Just aim for the middle of the greens, lay up short on par 5's that you cant drive to in 3. And always aim for the front of the green. Your ball will really bounce starting out, especially with the lower numbered clubs. Doing this alone should help. These tips have all helped my game, which has gone from a +28 handicap down to a +12 handicap

What is the point of a +6 -6 club if you have to compensate with your stats. Why wouldn't you just skip the club and not worry about compensating? Now a +6 -3 club, that would be worthwhile.

Just had my best round to date. An 80 and it would have been better if I didn't double 15,16 and 18.

Level 15
Power - 24 Impact - 11 Stamina - 6 Skill - 7 Handicap +7 I'll be upgrading my skill over the next few levels, in tandem with power. Target is 33-11-(6)-11 for me. I usually play pretty darn well and blow a good score on one hole. It's aggraviting. Yesterday I left a tee shot hanging on the lip on hole #3 of the Beginner's course (the A one whatever the name is). And then last night I knocked one in from about 90 yds out. If I could just stop tilting off 8-11 shots on one random hole, I'd be doing great. In answer of why I like this better than Tiger Woods, it is deeper, more open ended, and more fun. I actually think the ball physics when the ball contacts the ground are much better, and the method for reading green contour is terrific. Putting is much more dynamic and challenging than in Tiger (when I could pretty much make a putt at will - maybe it could get that way in this game, but it sure isn't showing any signs of it for me). I also like the fact that this game will be evolving and changing over time, adding new elements, events, etc. The way it is looking, if this isn't too expensive, I will probably be paying when the beta ends. Only if it is fairly cheap, though. |

MJ4H: I have a strong feeling this game will remain free, and the pay option will only be for added content. I've read there is only a few hundred people that play, so it doesnt seem like enough to support itself with a pay only model.
That said, my character has 17 Power 9 Impact 8 Skill I think im gonna go with a 3:2:2 ratio, so we will see.

I apologize, i was off on my ratio above. it should have been 3:2. some people also suggest a small ratio like 5:4:3 or 4:3:2. It really depends on your preference.

I disagree with almost all of that. Interesting. I have only played a couple of rounds of shot-online, but I find the physics to be much better in TW. I like that I can choose what type of shot to hit (flop, chip, pitch, etc), and much prefer the True-swing type of play to the click three times swing method in S-O. I'll agree that putting is more difficult (at least so far), but I don't really like to 4 or 5 putt green so that's not really a bonus for me. I'll probably give s-o another try, but so far I prefer the realism in TW. |

well, if you master putting in only a couple rounds what fun would that be? Putting is tough.... but it should be tough. Im much better now and getting bettter every time i play. Just remember..... 10% = 2 yards and you'll be ok.

I have still never made a long putt. I did play against someone that nailed a number of 15-20 yard putts, but that was the only person I've seen put well. The contour of the green everywhere between the ball and the hole affect the putt. This is realistic and makes it pretty difficult. I've also noticed that aiming with the arrow keys is not as good as using the mouse for putting. I was on the practice green where you get the same putt over and over, and I could never make the 20-yd putt by aiming with the arrows. A nice iron-shot tip is to watch the weather. Clouds really do drop 10% of your distance, and sun and > 27C temperature does add 10% to your shot. The wind definitely moves the ball as well. Lots of factors involved in lining up the perfect shot. Do people swing with the mouse buttons, or the spacebar? I've found the spacebar to be much more responsive, but that could just be my laptop mouse buttons. |

my handicap is like +18 still at level 12. But i've only finished 18 holes 3 times (and the first 2 times i sucked). I think mine should be around +8-10 now, maybe lower.
My names PureHavok ingame, the only fofc'er i've seen online is Marmel so far and he left the group i was gonna play in before it got started.

Just so you know, You only get double experience, if you start your match during the dbl exp timeframe. If your already in a match, it doesnt affect it. If you wait around until just before the event starts, then go in, your guaranteed to get a match with some people that have more levels than you. This will give you even more Exp if they shoot a good round also.
