If I am going with beer, Nantahala brewing company is right here in town (in a building I used to live in) and every brew they have is amazing. Otherwise, I settle for some Sam Adams or Strongbow. I haven't really got the chance to experiment much yet, as my location is not a place where one finds a great variety of brews, but between the breweries here and in Asheville, there is plenty of good drink to be had.

Give Sam Adam's new Angry Orchard cider a try. I'm not a big cider drinker, but I like Angry Orchard more than the others I've had such as Strongbow and Crispin.

I totally missed that...I love that area to visit.

Asheville has some good breweries and if Old Meck out of Charlotte has made its way there yet dont miss some copper

What kind of beer is currently in your fridge?
I don't drink Beer - sometimes I'll drink Snakebite, but thats as close as I go.

Quote:
What's your favorite beer/mixed drink?
Snakebite it's an English drink - don't ask for it in a pub over there as most places won't serve it; its English alcoholic cider mixed with lager and black currant cordial over the top to make it palatable ...

Its most commonly drank by Students because of its (cough) medicinal properties, ie. you feel good fast ... and cheaply.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snakebite_(shandy)

Quote:
What's in your liquor cabinet?
Southern Comfort and probably a bottle of whisky or three.

Quote:
What can you drink all night long and not feel a thing?
Pretty much anything - I'm rather tall and robust, so can drink most people under the table (my wife used to be the exception to this - although these days she's tea total).

Quote:
What gets you spinning after just a couple shots?
Never found anything which puts me down 'fast' - I had a friend who used to work as a painter and decorator in pubs in Norwich when I was a teenager and we used to raid their stocks while (cough) working ... some of the mixers we used to create removed varnish from wood and were fairly lethal.

Quote:
Are you good at mixing drinks, or does your spouse/boyfriend/life partner mix them for you?
I don't really mix drinks tbh, beyond putting Ice or Coke into Whisky.

Quote:
When did you start drinking?
I drank from the age of around 7 or so with my sunday lunch at home (just a glass of wine or something similar). I didn't drink outside of the family until I was around 15 when I bought a pack of lager just to see if I could (tasted horrible so I gave the rest of it to a mate), around 16-17 I hit my stride and drank like a fish - mainly spirits, vodka, southern comfort and suchlike.

(this might sound young to some of you considering the American drinking age - but you can drink at 18 in the UK and most kids drink a fair bit before then, so long as you're 'sensible' about it and don't act like a prat by and large people will turn a blind eye to you)

I drank Southern Comfort a LOT until my 21st birthday when I drank a bottle of the stuff, that coincided with various 'interesting' events including being carried out of a chinese takeaway which I'd literally crawled into ....

(I only started drinking it again about 4-5 years ago)

Quote:
Have you recently tried a new drink that you loved/hated?
I haven't tried anything new in ages tbh I'm not 'big' drinker these days - not by my student ten pints a night standards anyway.

Most embarrassing story involves Snakebite visiting a friend at his university and throwing up on my own trainers* ... which wouldn't have been so bad, but due to the amount of blackcurrant I'd drank in the Snakebite that night I woke up to find they'd changed colour from white to purple come the morning.

*This night may or may not have also involved me entering an air guitar contest and driving my motorbike through his halls of residence ....

I've also seen some bars serve it as cider + Guinness, instead of lager. And no finisher.

I had an Oaked Arrogant Bastard. I love strong as hell aggressive ales, but plain Arrogant Bastard is still not my favorite, but this Oaked variant is positively magical.

I had some Makgeolli at a Korean BBQ place the other night. I've had a lot of rice wine over the years. But that was a new experience.

The best part was that they served it in bowls. I felt like the hero in a Kung Fu Period Epic.

I just saw on my local beer shops twitter feed that they are having a midnight release (yes) of Westvleteren 12 in a couple weeks. It's $85 for the six pack gift set.

I'm tempted. I've been drinking mostly only craft/micro beer for the past two years, and casually for five years or so, but I'm still fairly inexperienced in the more "advanced" styles of beer. I'm afraid I'd be pissing away money on something that I don't yet have the palate for. Anybody here try it?

My go to beer that I tend to keep in the fridge is Bell's Two Hearted, Lagunita's IPA, and lately Founder's Breakfast Stout. Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald occasionally, too. Nothing even remotely close to a Westvleteren 12.

I had Alchemist Brewery's Heady Topper (Imperial IPA - 2012 silver medal at the World Beer Cup) at their cannery up in Waterbury VT (really the only place to get it except a couple other places in VT) back in October.

Damn good IPA - and I'm not even a huge IPA fan.

I've been in Bryson City for a majority of the last 10 years.. Spent a couple years back in Arizona, but once my long time friend and now fiancee decided she wanted to give it a go and get together, we came back to NC.

I've been staring at the handle of this one... next time I go back to my place...

(Tonight, had the Black Ghost oatmeal stout (a nitro out of Montana) and the Freshtracks, brewed with wet hops (from Boulder, CO)... both recommended.)

Deviant Dales IPA tonight.

Considering picking up the Nitro Milk I saw to take to a friends place this weekend. Not sure that it sounds that appealing, but it has me curious to try it out.

Been working on the San Francisco whiskey map: The San Francisco Whiskey Map - The Bold Italic - San Francisco

Had a Whistle Pig manhattan, by far the best drink I have ever had. Could not believe the difference a great, ($80 range) rye can make. Thought, was hoping, expensive whiskey was like expensive wine, you really can't tell the difference between mid and mid-upper range.... Totally wrong.

I don't typically drink, but if I'm grocery shopping and it strikes the mood, I'll buy... whatever. If I were to go to Happy Hour, or out with my friends and they wanna buy me a drink, I have them choose for me. They buy it, I drink it, I ain't picky.

The 17 was good enough for me to steal its identity.

Sadly I have none in the cabinet now.

JW blue, highland park, laphroig, and speyburn round out my scotch in hand.

The Speyburn is pretty close to dirt cheap and while not exactly smooth at just 10 years, it is a really good example of sweet flavor profile in a scotch for non scotch drinkers.

I get my car in about a month.. Then it will be time to hit Asheville. I'm thinking a Saturday or Sunday of watching football and getting my brew tour on would be fantastic, since football season approaches.

Otherwise, i'll be in Bryson getting happily sloshed at my favorite brewery of all time, Nantahala Brewing Co. I think they might have better stuff than Asheville even.

Nantahala has some fantastic beers.

8 foot drop double IPA is one of my faves.
I had an Oktoberfest (River run maybe?) a few years ago of theirs but didnt see it this past year that was amazing.

And I have 3 or 4 of their Ambers in my beer fridge currently.

I've gone through at least one bottle of Balvenie, and I like it. I've never done their port wood, as after trying the Glenmorangie Port and sherry finishes I decided I didn't care for that style of scotch. That said, I don't care at all for Glenmorangie, so I might have written it off without due consideration.

Glenmorangie tastes like ....medicine... to me.
