Outlook: The first team to unlock their 2nd skill and it's going to pay off big time for Lamar. Now they have a bunch of guys who can run fast, create shots, and finish at the rim. They will be changing coaches, as Curt Williams moved on to NC Central, but new Coach Denis Sterner is a great game day coach, which is what Lamar needs right now. One drawback is that they have three guys suspended to start the season, including SG Swett.

Hartford (2-13, 0-3), RPI: 144th

Well, the start to this season couldn't have possibly gone worse for the Hawks. They were already winless in November and early December, although against a mostly tough schedule. But then their star SG William Pace goes down and will be out for a full year. They only manage 2 wins in December, and then another brutal blow happens. Their 2nd best player PG Merle Tibbetts is suspended due to Academics and will miss the rest of the season.

A better start than last season for sure. Unfortunately, the injury bug is plaguing our FOFC teams this season as SG Edouard Ducourouble (as good as advertised with 15.4 ppg) will miss 2 months with an injury. That accounts for the 3 game losing streak to end the month. The good news is he should be back in time for the conference tourney.

As I was doing Portland's update, I noticed they opened the season with a matchup against fellow FOFC team Charleston Southern. New arrival Lonny Locke (who was correctly moved to SF) had a huge game with 15 pts and 9 rebounds as the Vikings solve Charleston Southern's usually stifling defense.

Unfortunately, that was the only win the Vikings would get through the first two months of the season. Locke has indeed been the best player on the team and Mauney has been right behind him, but it hasn't been enough. The real test will be when we get to conference play. Can the Vikings turn it around like they did last season?

If anything, the Bucs offense has been worse than in previous seasons, as they average 44.9 pts per game. Gooch is indeed their leading scorer, but he's doing it on .333 shooting from the field. Even conference play isn't likely to save them, as they've already started off 1-4 there.

Lamar (5-7, 1-2), RPI: 105th

Not the start I expected for Lamar. The early season suspension of SG Swett is hurting them. They also played some tough games, but there's no excuse for the loss to McNeese State. The good news is Swett will be back in January for the meat of conference play. Albers is so far leading the way with 13.4 ppg.

Jones graduated and will be a big hole to fill, but the Owls do return their other 4 starters and the whole team will be amazing at grabbing offensive boards, which should come in handy when the Owls have some off shooting nights. Greenwald and McCaslin have potential, but are both suspended due to academics. KSU's big weakness will be on the defensive end.
