Is the maximum CP for each specific unit the same? Does every Nidoqueen tap out at the same point, or can some CP's be significantly higher than others?

I think the higher your trainer's level is, the higher the limit for the CP is.

Ok, so I loads it up while on vacation. I have to admit, one nice thing about this is you wind up going places you might never otherwise see. This morning, I found a 4000 piece LEGO scale model of the resort I a staying at, pretty dang cool.
But, I have some questions, what does size have to do with The Pokemon? Do the attacks they have in unevolved form have an impact on what attacks they will have in evolved form? Is there any way to get candy for them besides collecting more of the same type? Which Pokemon do you want to evolve? Those with higher or lower CP? Is there a way to get rid of Pokemon you do not want? |

What does size have to do with The Pokemon?
Speculation is that smaller pokemon have lower hp and evade attacks better while bigger pokemon have higher hp and are slower. Do the attacks they have in unevolved form have an impact on what attacks they will have in evolved form? This I don't know. Is there any way to get candy for them besides collecting more of the same type? Hatching eggs and transferring pokemon to the professor. Which Pokemon do you want to evolve? Those with higher or lower CP? Higher. Pokemon maintain their CP level at evolution. Is there a way to get rid of Pokemon you do not want? Transfer it to the professor. (Select the pokemon you wish to get rid of and scroll down)

One last question, selecting a team, do you want to be opposite or the same as those around you?
I ask because my hometown is crazy about their sports teams and will likely be solid blue. |

If it ever gets back up, pokevision.com will show you where and how long spawns come up in a googlemaps type map. It's hard to see the characters but it has a timer of how much longer it will be in that spot. The 4 times we tested it last night it was correct.
Learned that the 170 acre park near the house might have 2 pokemon spawns while my 6 street "neighborhood" next to it would have anywhere from 3 to 9 going at the same time. So yeah, screw the park (think the game has the GPS off). Too bad the park has all landmarks to get the balls. |

So unless there's a gym within walking distance of your home or near your work I'm not sure what the point of this game really is.

If my wife got mad at me for getting out of bed and walking down the street at 11 last night to get a Ponyta, she's probably going to get angry if I wake her to tell her there's a Tauros in the house right now.

Definitely two kinds of players emerging I think. Those who are content (enough, for now) with the fun of just seeing what you find/capture and those who are into the whole gym battle aspect. Given what I see sitting atop gyms locally, that's going to be a power-players only gig. I'm level ... 7(?) now and literally my entire collection -- not just my best 6, I mean everything I've ever gotten -- is lower CP that just the one, never mind the rest of the gym defenders. At level 12 or 13, same thing is true for my son's best six, there's really no chance to battle successfully about 90% of the time. Not when your best is going down after two hits from the defender. Casual players will have to be content with the collecting aspect or either fade away/get some other game mode or motive from the developer.

Yeah, I think that totally makes sense. I'd like to see a mode where you can battle against other people near you, not even at a gym. So if I am beside my co-worker I can challenge him, he can decide to accept, and it's go time. I think that would help a lot for casual players that just can't keep up to the overall arms race but still enjoy battling friends or others of their level.

Yeah, JIMG has it correct I think. I am far more of a casual player. I hit one gym with my girlfriend yesterday that had low level defenders and we toppled it, but I had far more fun walking around collecting new Pokémon.
Speaking of, the gf and I were up at the Jersey Shore and walked the boardwalk at Seaside Heights. A good number of Pokémon players were wandering about and I got to witness the whole camaraderie aspect as we chatted with a kid and another couple while catching Pokémon. I got a TON of new Pokémon - one reason being in a new place and being by the water (as opposed to home which is not close to water). It didn't hurt that folks dropped a bunch of lures on the Pokéstops that were really close together (it is a tourist area after all). I think I got like 10 new (to me) Pokémon and after dropping a lucky egg and evolving a few while catching new ones - I went quickly from level 11 to 13 in like 45mins. That's also exactly like the real Pokémon world as well. Some folks are more casual collectors in the Pokémon world, having a few Pokémon to befriend and such, and then only a few are the real battlers.

Similar social experience yesterday, as son & I helped a friend of mine from out of town go from 1 pokemon to around 20. Just camped out a perpetually lured 'stop and taught the mechanics of the game in between captures. Was just a very relaxing couple of hours, plenty of laughs and all quite chill.
Interesting thing about that 'stop, it's outside a restaurant (Five Guys) in a shopping center & while I see a few players there all the time, the regularity of the lures made me seriously wonder if employees (or management) weren't watching to make sure it stayed lured. There's pretty good sight lines around it & I didn't see nearly enough traffic playing (or otherwise) to account for the rapid replacement of the lures.

At work, my avatar bounces between two poke-stops, because the GPS can't quite lock onto my signal. Of the two, the stop at the Fountain at my office stays lit at least 50% of the day. The other stop is at the entrance to a cemetery, where there's pretty much no foot traffic, and unless you're GPS glitches like mine, would only get pinged by the occasional car that drives by. But its lit at least 25% of the day.
Went for a run through the cemetery at lunch today. I counted 22 pokestops in the cemetery, at various gravestones, mausoleums, and monuments. I'd like to thank Mrs. James Williams for keeping my bag full of stuff. Also, there's a stop down the street from my house, a fire station. Every time I see it at night, there's a lure on it. I have to imagine its what the firemen are doing to pass the time at night. |

Had fun tonight watching the most prolonged gym battle(s) I've witnessed.
2 gyms, juuuust far enough apart that you can't reach both with moving up/down the sidewalk a couple of blocks. I could see them throughout dinner, perptually changing colors, red ---> blue ---> yellow, then back again. Over & over about every 60-120 seconds. After dinner we wandered out & participated briefly just for the hell of out. (Such as me getting knocked out in five seconds counts as 'participation'). Gym control was changing so fast that I tried & failed three times to stick a defender into an open slot. That went on another 30-45 mins & was still down to a yellow vs blue frenzy when we left. Red said "screw it" apparently and just took control of two other gyms a half mile away in opposite directions. Standards for success are so variable I guess but, for me, a 2-3 hour outing that resulted in leveling up once (now to 8) plus my first Vulpix, first Paras, and first Arbok (my new high CP of 318 too), really not too bad afaic.

I took a gym, and threw up my Karp. They took it back a minute later, which is surprising as we're in the ghetto in Columbia SC at a church for a wedding where everyone is at least 50. Who took back my gym?

I know that near where I live there is a pub that is a Pokestop - and if you say you are there to play pokemon and have a beer/food, they will put a lure on it and keep doing it for as long as you are there. Neat way to try and increase business a bit.

Finally to Level 10 in PGo. Still not a great top six to work with (425 CP Pidgeot highest).
I'm starting to get a grip on how to maximize my leveling XP -- for example figuring out that evolving 3 Pidgey to Pidgeotto is better XP boost than 1 Pidgeotto to Pidgeot -- which might help me move at least a little better going forward. Reality is that getting a new high CP is nice but really doesn't mean much since they're not even cannon fodder at most gyms by this point. That means leveling should be my priority since that seems to be the key to increasing the quality of what you can capture. Up to 36 different seen, 33 different captured, so the improvement in options from simply leveling has been pretty obvious to me.

Level 18 here. It is best to not evolve anything for a while and save up pidgeys weedles, caterpies and rattatas. Then use the calculator at pidgeycalc.com to find out when to use a lucky egg that will double your xp when doing the evolves. I went from level 15 to high 17 with one lucky egg and a bunch of evolves.
Once you get higher you start seeing the bigger guys. Just yesterday I caught a 1021 Magmar, 1011 Pinsir and 965 Snorlax just during breakfast and lunch. Also keep hatching eggs. The 10km eggs have really good pokemon. My last two 10km eggs were 799 Electabuzz and 689 Scyther. So, yes keep leveling it gets better. One other tip is search for the Evee rename trick to evolve Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon on demand. My Vaporean evolvolution was 1121.

Evidently they closed the Eevee rename trick loophole for non-Evees. Just tried it and it didn't work.

I was volunteering at a festival on the weekend and each night when I left there were packs of people roving around catching pokemon. It was pretty cool to see the ethnic and age diversity among the groups and just to see people having fun outside. During the day I even saw a kid who set up a sunscreen station to make a couple of extra bucks.

My 11 year son and I walked 4 miles last week in 2 hours. He was up by 6:15 AM to do so. I've been using it as an excuse to get out and do stuff while traveling. The neat thing about it, the stops tend to be interesting sites. You can hit some local landmarks focusing on the pokestops. |

I realized last night I don't have the disposition to take down gyms where dumb ass high school and college kids are.
There were 4 of us last night, my GF are team yellow, my bro is blue..we team up and take down a red gym. We hear from around the trail, literally like 500 yards away from us. "That gym is open! Get it!" and a group of them run at us as my buddy adds his blue to collect. We then begin to take his guy down so we can add. Literally, the second we take his guy down, the dipshits add a guy, We take him down, they add another before we can slap a guy in. After the 3rd time I come uncorked, I let them have it and I wasn't nice about it. My GF, my bro, his wife were looking at me like I had lost it. I looked at them and said, that was the calm version of me, I only swore once and didn't go into NY mode on them. The college dipshits took off, and they tried it again to someone else as we were walking by. He lost it as well, went off on them and I said... "Hmm, looks like we aren't the problem"

I've been going out in town every other night for some late night hunting, lost 5 pounds in the process, and met about 15-20 people who I now see regularly out until 2 and 3 AM just walking around town and catching Pokemon.
I find it fun battling for gyms with a bunch of people going at it at the same time, it is kind of a friendly rivalry around here. We spend time getting experience from beating each others pokemon over and over. I've started recognizing people based on the pokemon they always place in the gyms too, which is interesting. The updates bringing things like pvp battles and trading are going to really add some depth to the game when they happen, not to mention the other generations of pokemon being added to the game as well. The levels do get quite lengthy to progress through once you hit level 20 though. I'm on 21 now, but 75k experience is a lot before I will hit 22.

Id say at least 30% of the people we saw in downtown Greenville tonight were playing. It's insane how many people are playing.

Ridiculous. I think it appears as if most of these players are on the sidewalk - he mentioned that 5 people asked if he could go into the person's backyard. I'm guess those folks didn't actually jump the fence after being denied. There are trespassing laws in place if you are upset. Otherwise, these players are on public property ('adjacent to private property'? Please).

It's kind of morbid fun watching the developers shoot themselves in the foot. Bitching about the 3rd party apps (what, maybe 1% of players were using that? Or 0.1%? Or less?), punting on the broken "tracks" radar.
And while I haven't seen it officially, the figure of 20% tougher to catch (rather than have escape) I've seen floating around certainly feels right post-update. Give 'em time, I suspect we'll get a worthy contender for the EA/Konami podium.

Just cracked level 20 and I haven't even gone 50k yet. The good news is I've refilled my bag so that its full. The bad news is, nothing seems to spawn around me anymore. I've caught 12 monsters in 2 days, and all but one has been a rat or pidge. I sent my wife a picture yesterday that showed 5 nearby slots were rats, 4 were pidges. It looked like they were playing tic tac toe.

It appears that increasing the API refresh rate was to prevent people playing while driving. Considering some negative pub the game was getting regarding that, it probably isn't a bad idea.

It prevents people from playing while biking, while on the train etc. It also effects sensing what pokemons are nearby for all players even while walking. Its another massive mistake by Niantic. Its mind boggling how these guys are constantly shooting themselves in the foot. |
