Friday June 7th: Stars (26-34) At Dodgers (30-31)
Alex Fernandez continued to struggle. He gave up 6 runs in 6 innings, all on long balls. 2 Solo shots to Strawberry, a solo shot from Eric Davis and a Tim Wallach 3 run homer. Our pen would get knocked around some and Kevin Gross kept us off balance all night as they stomped us and ended our little winning streak. Eric Young was 4-5. Final Score: Dodgers 10 Stars 2 Saturday June 8th: Stars (26-35) At Dodgers (31-31) We got on Pedro Martinez for an early 2-0 lead but Nomo gave up a fourth inning grand slam to Daryl Strawberry to give them the lead. Hideo would hold it there though and we would break through for 6 runs in the 7th off of Pedro, Roger McDowell and Rich DeLucia. Hill, Moeller and Pall would each pitch a scoreless inning to close out a nice win. Helton had 2 RBI, Eusebio was 3-5 with 2 RBI and Eric Young homered. Final Score: Stars 8 Dodgers 4 Sunday June 9th: Stars (27-35) At Dodgers (31-32) Nagy would give up 3 unearned first inning runs on a Piazza homer. Karros would add a 2 run shot in the 3rd. He would leave after 5 down 6-1 against Orel Hershiser. They would add 4 more in the eighth off of Hope and roll to a 10-1 win. Spiers had 3 hits. Davis, Piazza and Karros all homered for them. Monday June 10th: Stars (27-36) At Giants (32-28)
Shane Reynolds didn't make it past the fourth inning, leaving down 6-4. Abbott would allow 4 more runs in 2 innings of work. Their pen would close us out and take the first game of the series in a romp. Wil Clark had 3 RBI & Matt Nokes homered for them. Chamberlain had 2 hits and 3 RBI for us and Spiers homered. Final Score: Giants 9 Stars 5 Shane Reynolds has elbow inflamation. He should be good in about a week but this gives me a chance to see what Aaron Sele has. His ratings have stalled out at 76/79 and he doesn't have a dominant area but I'll give him a look see. I considered bringing up Joey Hamilton but I wanna see if he keeps developing at AAA. He's up to 87/92 and looking like a real front line starter. Tuesday June 11th: Stars (27-37) At Giants (33-28) Steve Cooke scattered six hits over 7 innings and left up 4-2 against last years #7 overall draft pick Freddy Garcia. Our pen, including Pall with the save, would shut the door as we take the second game of the series. Goodwin had two homers on the day. Matt Williams was 3-4 with a homer for them. Final Score: Stars 5 Giants 2 Charles Nagy has a sprained ankle and will miss about a week. We won't need to make any moves though as Sele will get a start and with an off day we can just move Steve Cooke up a day and still have everyone work on 5 days rest. Tom Goodwin was headed to arbitration following the season and I really wanted to lock him up long term. We worked out a 5 year deal worth $540,000 per year with a player option for a 6th year at $750,000. We opened talks with Milt Hill who's also arbitration eligable following the season but he's asking $750,000 per year. Even if we can get him to come down that's an awful lot to pay. We table the negotiations for now. Wednesday June 12th: Stars (28-37) At Giants (33-29) Alex Fernandez finally gave us a quality start, going 6 strong innings and leaving tied 2-2 against John Burkett. Our pen would hold the lead till Kevin McReynolds hit a towering bomb in the top of the ninth to give us the lead. Don Pall would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth to save it and we get out of town with 2 out of 3. Very nice. McReynolds was 3-4 with the game winning homer. Final Score: Stars 3 Giants 2 Thursday June 13th: Off Day Brian Jordan has had plenty of time to show us something as our everyday Right Fielder and he just isn't getting it done. I had to decide between Chamberlain and Hulse for an extended shot at quite frankly I know what Wes gives us against right handers and it just isn't much so we'll give David Hulse a shot in RF and see how he does. |

Friday June 14th: Stars (29-37) Vs Cardinals (36-30)
Nomo gave up 5 runs in 6 innings but left with a 7-5 lead against Joe Magrane. Abbott would give up a game tyeing homer to Bernard Gilkey in the top of the eighth but we would score 4 runs in the bottom of the inning off of Omar Oliveras. Pall would pitch a perfect ninth as we win a wild one. Eric Young had 3 hits, Rob Deer homered and he, Fletcher and Womack had 2 RBI. Lankford and Gilkey each homered for the Cardinals and Greg Jeffries had 3 hits. Attendance was 5,800 which makes me sad. Final Score: Stars 11 Cardinals 7 Saturday June 15th: Stars (30-37) Vs Cardinals (36-31) Aaron Sele was pitching a real solid game till he gave up a 3 run homer to Bernard Gilkey in the top of the 6th. He would leave after 7 down 5-4 to Tim Belcher. We would tie it in the bottom of the eighth but they took the lead back in the ninth when I should have had a righty in instead of Moeller. With 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the ninth against Lee Smith, Scott Fletcher singled and stole second. Eric Young would then line a single to center to score him and tie it up. We would load the bases but McReynolds struck out to end the inning, sending us to extra frames. Greg Jeffries would smack and RBI single off of John Hope in the top of the 10th to give them back the lead. Mike Perez would shut us down in order in the bottom of the inning as we lost a heartbreaker. Bullocks! Eric Young, Deer, McReynolds and Eusebio all had 2 hits, McReynolds and Young had 2 RBI. Jeffries had 3 more hits. Gilkey had a homer and 3 RBI. Final Score: Cardinals 7 Stars 6 (10 Innings) Sunday June 16th: Stars (30-38) Vs Cardinals (37-31) Backed by two Todd Helton homers, Steve Cooke went 6.2 innings and left with a 4-2 lead against Andy Benes. Our pen would hold the lead and Pall would set em down in the ninth for the win and 2 out of 3 in the series. Final Score: Stars 4 Cardinals 2 Monday June 17th: Off Day |

Nagy went 6 innings and leave down 3-2. They added a run in the seventh but we would get to Jeff Reardon for 3 runs in the ninth to take a 5-4 lead. Don Pall would blow the save in the ninth and allow a bases loaded sac fly to Joe Oliver to end the game. A very tough loss. Felix Jose and Kevin Mitchell each had 3 hits for them. McReynolds homered for us. Final Score: Reds 6 Stars 5 Wednesday June 19th: Stars (31-39) At Reds (30-41) Alex Fernandez would go 6.2 and leave down 4-2 to John Thomson. This time their pen would hold up as we lose another tough one. Spiers had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Young and Goodwin had 2 hits each. Reggie Sanders homered and drove in 2 for them. Final Score: Reds 5 Stars 3 Thursday June 20th: Stars (31-40) At Reds (31-41) Nomo would go 7 strong and leave tied 2-2 vs Jose Rijo. We got 2 runs in the eighth off of Rob Dibble. We add a run in the 9th and Pall would give up a run but lock down the save as we salvage a game. Spiers had 3 hits, Womack had 2 RBI and Young had 2 steals. Final Score: Stars 5 Reds 3 |

Friday June 21st: Stars (32-40) Vs Giants (38-31)
Sele went 6 solid innings and left with us up 4-2 on Dave Burba. We would add a couple runs and Milt Hill picked up a 2 inning save as we take game 1. Spiers had 3 more hits and Eric Young had 2 RBI. Final Score: Stars 6 Giants 2 Saturday June 22nd: Stars (33-40) Vs Giants (38-32) Cooke threw 7 scoreless innings and left up 1-0 against John Burkett. Our pen would finish the job including Pall with the save as we won our 3rd in a row and shut out the Giants. Eusebio had 2 hits and our RBI. McReynolds had 2 hits. Final Score: Stars 1 Giants 0 Sunday June 23rd: Stars (34-40) Vs Giants (38-33) Nagy only went 5 innings and left down 2-0 to Bill Swift. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth Kevin McReynolds hit a 2 run bomb to give us the lead. Pall came on and with 1 out and a runner on, Eric Young threw a double play ball into left field. Pall would hold them to 1 run and a tie game. Brad Pennington pitched 2 OUTSTANDING innings and in the bottom of the 11th with McReynolds on 3rd and Spiers on 2nd, Hulse drove a single into left field off of Joe Nathan to give us the win and the sweep. Excellent. Spiers had 3 hits. We're now just 5 games under .500, unreal. Final Score: Stars 4 Giants 3 (11 Innings) Monday June 24th: Off Day Shane Reynolds will be ready to come off the DL tomorrow. What we'll do is have Sele pitch his scheduled start on Thursday and then send him down and start Reynolds Friday giving everyone an extra day of rest. While I'd like to see more of Sele, i'm not prepared to demote any of my current starters. |

Alex Fernandez went into the seventh up 3-0. He would surrender solo homers to Strawberry and Henry Rodriguez and leave up 3-2. Milt Hill pitched a perfect 8th, we added an insurance run off of Roger McDowell and Don Pall pitched a perfect ninth as we won again and are now just 4 games below .500. Final Score: Stars 4 Dodgers 2 Wednesday June 26th: Stars (36-40) Vs Dodgers (39-39) Nomo left after six innings down 3-2 to Erik Hanson. June Report Card
Record: 37-44, 6th place NL West, 17 games behind Finances: -$750,000 $2,500,000 Cash Code:
Spiers has really come on. Helton has evened out. Young is very disappointing from an OBP perspective. McReynolds has been our best all around hitter but his time on the team isn't long. Jordan has been abysmal. Code:
Not much has changed. Nomo and Fernandez have really disappointed me, while the pen continues to pitch above and beyond. In the minors, Hamilton is ready, it's just me being too damn wussy to make a commitment to moving down one of our starters. Cooke is the guy I'd like to move but he's been too good. Ideally he'd be in the pen, I dunno. Willie Greene is at AAA now and may see some time here before the season ends but i'm more likely to give Dave Hansen another shot. McReynolds is in the last year of his contract and the plan from the beginning was to move him this year and that's still in place. Doing so will greatly affect what limited power we have in the lineup though. |

Around The League In June
Just 3 games separate the first place Phillies from the Mets, Pirates and Cardinals in the NL East. The Astros have opened up a 10 game lead in the NL West and are looking strong. The Orioles have overtaken the Yankees by 1 game in the AL East and it's looking like it'll be another neck & neck race. Chicago holds a 7 game lead over Texas out West as they look to defend their World Series title. The Orioles made two trades, getting John Smiley from the Reds and Bill Wegman from the Brewers as they attempt to match the Yankees in every aspect of the game both on and off the field. The Mets meanwhile added Greg Vaughn to their lineup as Brewers fans have seen their teams best players get cherry picked the last couple of seasons. Torontos Duane Ward broke his ankle and will miss 3 months, Montreals Sam Horn tore knee ligamints and is out 2 months. Seems the major injuries are all happening in Canada. The Yankees Mattingly at .368 and Boggs at .350 lead the AL in hitting while the Astros Bagwell at .356 and Bichette at .354 lead the NL. Jim Thome leads baseball with 28 homers while Strawberry leads the NL with 25 dingers. Dave Stieb of the White Sox and Jimmy Key of the Yankees lead the majors with 12 wins. 3 Pitchers are tied for the NL lead, McDowell of the Cards, Drabek of the Phillies and Chad Bradford (what?) of the Mets. Randy Johnson with 156 and Curt Schilling with 128 lead their respective leagues in K's. Last edited by Suicane75 : 06-13-2011 at 08:22 AM. |

Alex Fernandez left after 6 down 5-3 to Bryan Rekar for god sakes. Down 7-4 in the ninth we got 2 runs off of Jeff Reardon but came up short for another disappointing loss in a Fernandez start. He's now 3-10 on the year. Young had 3 hits, Helton had 3 RBI and Goodwin homered. Barry Larkin was 3-4 with a homer. Final Score: Reds 7 Stars 6 Wednesday July 3rd: Stars (37-45) Vs Reds (33-50) Nomo went 7 strong innings and left up 6-2. Milt Hill gave up 2 runs in the eighth and Pall gave up one in the ninth but closed down the win. Eusebio & Fletcher each had 3 hits. Felix Jose had 3 hits and 2 RBI for them and Juan Samuel homered. Final Score: Stars 6 Reds 5 Thursday July 4th: Stars (38-45) Vs Reds (33-51) Reynolds allowed 3 runs over 7 innings and left up 5-3. It was 6-4 in the ninth and Pall would allow a run but close the door as we win the final 2 games of the series. Rob Deer had a 3 run homer and Carlos Hernandez had 3 hits. Felix Jose was 3-4 with 3 RBI for the Reds. Attendance was a dreadful 5,200. Final Score: Stars 6 Reds 5 |

Monday July 7th/Thursday July 11th: All-Star Break
Kevin McReynolds was named our lone All-Star represenative. We have a long 13 day road trip coming up to start the second half and i've decided that now is the time for Joey Hamilton. Our prized pitching prospect will get the call up and move into the rotation. I'm going to demote Hideo Nomo to AAA. This doesn't really reflect that I don't want Nomo on my staff but he has some room to grow and improve his control and maybe some more time in AAA will help him do that. I still see him as part of our staff going forward. We'll go with Nagy, Fernandez, Cooke, Reynolds, Hamilton as our rotation order. McReynolds, who is in the final year of his contract, wants about $1.7 Million per year so we're obviously gonna try and move him prior the trade deadline. Milt Hill is asking for a Million a year as well but he's an arbitration case. Still, Hill will garner much more than we can afford to pay in arbitration so moving him is not out of the realm of possibility either, much as I really want to keep him. |

Friday July 12th: Stars (41-46) At Giants (48-38)
Nagy went 7.2 innings but gave up 6 runs total, 2 were let in by Milt Hill. It didn't matter though cause Bill Swift had us off balance all night and our offense did not look good. Final Score: Giants 7 Stars 1 Saturday July 13th: Stars (41-47) At Giants (49-38) Alex Fernandez would take a 3-1 lead to the 6th where he would surrender a 3 run blast to Matt Williams. Mike Jackson & Rod Beck would close the door as we drop our 2nd straight. McReynolds had a 2 RBI hit. Final Score: Giants 4 Stars 3 Sunday July 14th: Stars (41-48) At Giants (50-38) Cooke gave up 3 runs in 6 innings, all on a first inning Barry Bonds homer, and left trailing Dave Burba 3-1. They would add a couple more runs and get the sweep as our bats don't appear to realize the break is over. Julio Franco was 4-4 with a homer. Hulse had 3 hits for us. Final Score: Giants 5 Stars 1 Kevin McReynolds has a sore quad and will miss 4 days. We'll plug Jordan or Deer in there but not make any roster moves. |

Big day tomorrow as Joey Hamilton makes his major league debut. Eric Davis was 4-5 with a homer and 3 RBI & Piazza had 3 hits for. Final Score: Dodgers 11 Stars 1 Saturday July 20th: Stars (43-51) At Dodgers (50-47) Cooke gave up 4 runs in 5 innings and left down 4-2 against Orel Hershiser. It stayed at 4-2 and we got a run off of Todd Worrell in the ninth but came up just short for our 3rd straight loss. Davis & Piazza homered, Wallach had 2 RBI. McReynolds & Hernandez had 2 hits for us. Final Score: Dodgers 4 Stars 3 Sunday July 21st: Stars (43-52) At Dodgers (51-47) Shane Reynolds left after 6 with a 7-5 lead against Ramon Martinez. Final Score: Stars 7 Dodgers 5 Monday July 22nd: Off Day Brian Jordan will be arbitration eligible after the season and while he's sucked so far, his ratings suggest he may not always suck. Friday July 26th: Stars (44-55) Vs Reds (42-59)
Steve Cooke left after 6 down 4-3. Our pen would give up a couple of runs and we once again looked completely listless, knocking out just 6 hits off of Thomson, Dibble and Reardon. Sanders and Oliver each had 3 hits and a homer for them. Goodwin had a 2 run shot for us. Final Score: Reds 7 Stars 4 Saturday July 27th: Stars (44-55) Vs Reds (42-59) Shane Reynolds went 7 innings and left down 5-2 thanks to solo homers from Kevin Mitchell and Barry Larkin and a 3 run triple from Felix Jose. Down 5-4 in the ninth, Jeff Reardon set us down 1-2-3 as our skid continues. Goodwin had 3 hits, Spiers had 2 RBI. Big day tomorrow as Joey Hamilton makes his home debut. Final Score: Reds 5 Stars 4 Brad Pennington broke his hand during an altercation with a locker following the game. He'll miss at least 2 weeks. Void of any lefties in our farm system we recall Nomo to be in the starting rotation and move Steve Cooke to the pen. Sunday July 28th: Stars (44-57) Vs Reds (44-59) Hamiltons scoreless inning streak ended in the 4th when Joe Oliver hit a solo homer. Hamilton would allow just that one run over 7 strong innings of 2 hit ball and leave up 7-1. Womack had 3 hits, Goodwin, Helton, Spiers & Hulse had 2 hits each as our bats finaly woke up. This wasn't the most ideal move but it was the best offer we had out there. King is a lefty and will step right up to the big club. This sort of reshuffles our plans as we send Nomo back down to AAA. Steve Cooke goes back into the rotation and reliever Andy Cook who was so good earlier in the year while Pall was on the DL will come back up to the bigs. King has a 3.83 ERA in 54 innings this year and is immediately our best lefty out of the pen. I didn't want to move Hill but I couldn't pay him what he wanted. Dave Hansen gets recalled and will step in at 3B, Spiers moves to SS, Womack to RF and Jordan at LF. The next 2 months will be important for Hansen and Jordan as far as their odds at starting next season go. |

Nagy left after 7 innings tied 4-4 with Pedro Martinez. King and Cook would allow a run in the top of the eighth but Dave Hansen would blast a 2 run homer in the bottom of the inning to put us up. Don Pall would surrender a two out bottom of the ninth homer to Piazza to tie the game. Dang nabbit. Tony Womack leads off the bottom of the ninth with his second homer of the day to give us a dramatic win. Holy cow. Womack and Goodwin each had 2 homers on the day. Piazza had 2 shots for them. A power surge at Century Field today. Final Score: Stars 7 Dodgers 6 Wednesday July 31st: Stars (46-57) Vs Dodgers (54-52) Fernandez gave up 4 runs in 6 innings but we had jumped all over Orel Hershiser and he left with an 8-4 lead. They would get 2 in the seventh but we would close the door and Pall got the save as we won our 3rd in a row and our offense is rolling. Goodwin had 3 more hits. Final Score: Stars 8 Dodgers 6 Thursday August 1st: Stars (47-57) Vs Dodgers (54-53) Cooke left after 7 innings down 4-3 to Ramon Martinez. Down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth Carlos Hernandez blasted a two run walk off homer off of Todd Worrell to give us a dramatic win. What a series! Helton had a homer for us and Eric Davis had one for them. This new look lineup is producing. Final Score: Stars 5 Dodgers 4 1994 In Season Trades Code:

Friday August 2nd: Stars (48-57) At Senators (35-72)
Reynolds left after 6 tied 4-4 with Pedro Astacio. We would score two in the eighth and Don Pall would close it out for the win. Goodwin and Helton each had 2 RBI and Eric Young had 2 hits. Final Score: Stars 6 Senators 4 Saturday August 3rd: Stars (49-57) At Senators (35-73) Hamilton had his first bad outting, going 5 innings and giving up 6 runs (5 earned) as he was wild all day. He left down 6-2 to Rick Helling. Our bullpen would allow the barrage to continue as they took an 11-6 lead into the ninth where we scored 3 runs but fell short against Doug Jones. Lance Blankenship had 4 hits and Mark Carreon had 3 hits for them while Goodwin had 3 more hits for us. Final Score: Senators 11 Stars 9 Sunday August 4th: Stars (49-58) At Senators (36-73) Nagy gave up 5 runs and trailed 5-3 as we went into the seventh when we exploded for single biggest inning of the year. We sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs off of 4 Senators pitchers. Bill Spiers had a 3 run triple and Goodwin had a 3 run homer in the 7th inning. We would go on to romp and take 2 out of 3. Goodwin had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Spiers had 4 hits and 4 RBI and Rob Deer had a 3 run homer. Just nasty. Final Score: Stars 17 Senators 5 Dave Hansen will be eligible for arbitration so we sit down to try and work out a deal to avoid it. We offer him 5 years at $150,000 with a player option for a 6th year at $250,000 which is just a $9,000 raise. He accepts it. Another one locked up. |

Monday August 5th-Wednesday August 7th: Stars (50-58) At Astros (71-38)
We got swept by the Astros though the 2nd game went 12 innings. Fernandez, Cooke and Reynolds all had sub par starts and we didn't hit very much. Monday August 8th: Off Day Brad Pennington is ready to come off of the DL but we don't have a spot for him on the staff right now so we send him to AAA until September roster expansion. |

Thursday August 15th: Stars (52-65) At Pirates (60-58)
Nagy went a solid 6 innings but left down 2-1 to Jon Lieber. We still trailed 2-1 in the ninth and Stan Belinda closed the door on us. Jay Bell and Orlando Merced each had 2 hits for them. Final Score: Pirates 2 Stars 1 Friday August 16th: Stars (52-66) At Pirates (61-58) Fernandez went 7 strong innings and left with a 3-2 lead. We led 4-2 going to the ninth and Pall set em down for the save and the win. Eric Young had 3 hits for us and Merced had 3 hits for them. Final Score: Stars 4 Pirates 2 Don Pall broke the same wrist he did earlier in the year. He's out a month. Brad Pennington rejoins the pen. Paul Abbott will get a shot at the closers job. Friday August 23rd: We're 56-70 having lost three 1 run games to the Mets this past week. September 1st: We're 58-76. Seems we're repeating our late season swoon from last year. Aaron Sele and Scott Kameneicki will be getting some spot starts during the last month of the season to preserve our arms. The Phillies and Orioles have both opened 6 game leads in their divisions. The White Sox hold a 3 game lead on Texas in the AL West. September 14th: We're 65-82. The Orioles and Astros have 10+ game leads. Philly and Chicago are close to wrapping things up. September 29th: We finish the season with a 4-2 win over the Cardinals and 70-92 record which is a major improvement over last season. Orioles and White Sox repeated their division titles. The Astros and Phillies took their respective divisions in the NL. |

1994 Season Report Card
Record: 70-92, 7th Place NL West, 38 Games Behind Finances: -$2,500,00 $760,000 Cash Code:
Eric Young had a great year on the base paths and his speed at the top of the order was instrumental to our success, however limited. I like that his OBP improved throughout the year but it needs to be better next season. I can't say enough good things about Goodwin did this year and while I'm excited for the future I have to worry that this was an aberration. If he hits .300/.360 next year I'll be happy as hell. Helton was not quite the beast I expected but he's still improving, obviously I'd like to see closer to a .300 average next year. Spiers had a solid year but not the breakout season I expected when I put him in the three hole to start the season. That being said he was good enough. Womack really impressed me. He ran a lot in the bottom of the order and while his OBP will probably never be much higher than it is he showed me he deserves to play everyday. Dave Hansen and Brian Jordan. Oyy. Two guys who didn't give me shit but got contracts in return. I have faith they can rebound but Hansen has little wiggle room with Willie Greene waiting in AAA. Code:
Alex Fernandez was nothing more than a major disappointment. He improved slightly late in the year but an ERA over 5 is not what I'm paying him for. He really needs to show me something next season or it could time for him to move on. Charles Nagy was perhaps our most consistent pitcher but I wish the ERA was half a run lower. He's making $900K a year and needs to pitch at least in the ballpark of that. I don't want to move him but that salary could be a killer to us. Shane Reynolds really reigned himself in after a bad start and might of been our best pitcher in the second half. He pitched like a solid 2nd or 3rd starter and I'm happy with him. Steve Cooke had a decent year and being the only lefty we have gives him an up on returning to the rotation but I can't help but want to use him in the pen as a long lefty. Hideo Nomo had serious control issues that I hope can be at least slightly rectified over the off season, I really would like to see his power arm in our rotation. Joey Hamilton came out like Cy Young and finished like a turd. Still, his ratings are very good and he still projects as a front line starter so I'm just gonna live with the growing pains and pencil him in for next season. Don Pall was stellar while healthy and will be our closer again next year. Hope and Abbott both pitched well given that they had to go from a batter or two one day to an inning or three the next day. I like both their arms in our pen. As far as our lefties go, Kevin King has a spot next season and Moeller and Pennington will have to compete for the other spot. Moeller continues to out pitch his ratings but at some point he has to come back to earth. Pennington meanwhile just scares the hell out of me. His control issues really showed as the season went on. Down in the minors I don't see much help coming next season. Willie Greene and Craig Counsell could both land spots on the team depending on what they show us over the winter but the rest of our young hitters still need more developing. Pitching wise on Sele is someone who may factor in but oddly enough we already have too many pitchers so he'll have a tough road to hoe in finding a spot on the big club. Now to speak of the finances. We averaged 5,924 per game this season. That number is down from last year despite our improvement. Consequentially we just barely stayed above water but are nearly broke. We're gonna have to pull something out of our ass not to go broke next year. We may have to make some moves we don't want to to trim salary or get some cash. |

I really wish mogul had an output option for free agent signings, it would make keeping track of player movement so much easier.
Anyhoo, as I head to 1995 I'm faced with the stark reality that Nagy is going to have to be moved if I'm to keep from going bankrupt. I'm gonna take some time to think on this because I have no wiggle room at all when it comes to the financials. I guess Oklahoma City wasn't the smartest place to plant my flag. |

1995 OKLAHOMA STARS OFF SEASON MOVES
Retired: 2B Scott Fletcher. Arbitration: SP Rolando Arrojo wants $290,000. LOL. I aint even making a counter offer. He's gone. Expiring Contract: RF Rob Deer is willing to take a slight pay cut to stay with us but we just can't afford it, we let him walk. Contract Extension: We signed 2B Eric Young to a 4 year extension at $570,000 per year with a player option for a 5th season at $900,000. He wanted $850,000 and getting him to come down this far was a pretty big deal. I'm happy to have him locked up. Free Agent Signing: SS Alan Trammell. I wanted a decent middle infielder and a veteran leader and Alan fills both those things. His price was pretty high at $260,000 but I couldn't pass him up. He'd been contemplating retirement. Trade: Code:
This is honestly not a deal I wanted to do but I was very short on options. Glanville is obviously the prize here but I feel that our Outfield depth both at the majors and in the minors made him slightly expendable. Pye is a decent little guy but he projects to a backup infielder. Pennington was tough, he's just too wild to be trusted in big situations and with addition last year of King he became expendable. Basicaly this whole deal is getting cheaper, lesser prospects and getting some cash in return. It hurts our depth but we had no choice. Trade: Code:
I desperately wanted to add some young power to my team but I didn't know where to go. Looking around, Burnitz was a guy who seemed both available and a good fit, it was just a question of what it would take to land him. The obvious key to this trade was Bradley. Initialy they wanted Rupe but I wasn't prepared to do that. They came off their demands and took the slightly lesser prospect and we have ourselves a solid power prospect who's also a pretty good Right Fielder. This means that Womack either goes to short or moves to LF, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Trade: Code:
Pretty much a straight cost cutting move. The players we got back are all about equal but to get it done we had to give up RP Mike Johnson, a semi prospect. This saves us about $400,000 so yeah. Trade: Code:
This is not a trade I wanted to do but even with my other cost cutting manuevers my payroll was still too high. This deal sends Nagy back to his original team and is the 4th time he's moved in his short major league career. For us it allows Steve Cooke to go back into the rotation and Embree joins King in our revamped lefty side of the pen. Last edited by Suicane75 : 06-20-2011 at 03:00 PM. |

Injuries Mets 1B Fred McGriff tore some elbow ligaments and will miss the first month of the season. Blue Jays RF Joe Carter ruptured a cervical disc and will miss two months. This could be the end for Joe. Red Sox SP Roger Clemens blew out his knee in spring training and is not expected back this season. Cardinals closer Lee Smith hurt his wrist and will miss the first month. Seattle Catcher Brian Harper broke a finger and will miss most of the first month. Senators CF Carl Everett has a hip flexor and could miss up to 2 months. Recap Some interesting movement. The Phillies added a veteran ace while the Mets loaded up on a premiere power hitter. The Cardinals sent McDowell off to Baltimore just a season after signing him to a big contract. The Astros, coming off a world series title, added Kirby Pucket to an offense that was already super potent. The Dodgers meanwhile let Strawberry walk and instead brought in a trio of classy veterans to try and make a run. The Padres added a lot of pieces but probably not enough. The Orioles added an ace in McDowell and a slugger in Bonilla as well as some veteran pieces to try and stay on top. The Yankees meanwhile went hard into pitching but lost Wade Boggs. The Indians added some pitching to go with their young offense. The AL East should be interesting this year. The White Sox just get richer as they add some big offensive pieces while the Angels add some pieces but no real studs. Everyone else just sort of stood pat. 1995 Oklahoma City Stars Season Preview
LINEUP Code:
I'm a bit more excited about our lineup than I was last year. Of course a lot of that hinges on Burnitz and his power potential. He won't be as good a hitter as McReynolds but he should supply some more fear and pop. I waffled between hitting Helton 3rd or 4th but I settled in on giving Spiers another chance at the 3 hole. I will not hesitate to move Helton and Burnitz up to 3-4 if we struggle. PITCHING STAFF Code:
The starting staff has pretty much the same hopes and worries that it had last season. The big difference is that if guys don't improve this year I'll have a better understanding of what to expect from them. I really need Alex to be a 3.50/4.00 ERA guy. Same goes for Hamilton. The other guys I can live with 4.00/4.50 but I can't have ERAs over 5 from them this year or else I'll have to make a decision about their future with us that will not please me. All things being equal, if 3 of these guys come out of the season looking pitchers I can count on for the next 5 years i'll be pleased. Anything less would disapoint me. The pen I expect to be just as good as last year if not better. King and Embree are much better lefty combo for me. The big question mark is Hurst, his ratings in everything but power are solid. That being said, he's the 4th righty so it's not like i'm counting on him that much. MINOR LEAGUES Code:
It's a big year for some of our prospects. I'm hoping that Wilson and Greene blossom in AAA this year and are ready next year if needed. Sele is sort of stuck in no mans land but i'm glad to have him in case we lose or need to lose a starter. Down at AA i'm very keen on how Matsui, Tejada and Drew develop as the season progresses. I don't know if any of them reach AAA this year though, I doubht it. Podsednik and Rupe are very close to moving up to AA, I just want them to have a bit more seasoning under their belts first. All my rookie ball guys will be moved up when the amateur draft occurs, I just want them to spend another couple months down there getting prepared to move up. I'm really liking my farm system right now. I have enough guys that I don't need a giant success rate to get a good player or two as I potentialy have to move some of the guys on my big squad due to money issues. FINANCIALS Farm System: $5,000,000 (6th) Scouting: $5,200,000 (6th) Medical Staff: $3,100,000 (5th) Ticket Prices: $5.40 (League Average $5.50) Cash: $2,000,000 Payroll Budget: $4,600,000 Payroll: $6,200,000 Projections have us ending the year about $1,700,000 down, which I can live with as long we stay in the positive. My goal continues to be to get next year with at least some cash and improve the team to increase profits. |

Final Score: Braves 7 Stars 5 Wednesday April 3rd: Stars (0-1) At Braves (1-0) Nomo went 5.2 and left down 3-0 to a dominant Tom Glavine. Friday April 5th: Stars (1-2) Vs Giants (2-1)
Reynolds gave up 8 runs, 4 earned, over 5.2 innings and left down 8-4. Our pen would give up a couple and boy are we getting hit hard early in the year. Ooofah. Eric Young had 4 hits, Helton had 3 hits. Matt Wiliams had a 2 run homer for them and he, Martinez, Clayton and Bonds all had 2 hits. Attendance was 10,752 so no significant increase over last year. Christ. Final Score: Giants 10 Stars 5 Dave Hansen has a sore heel and will miss about 5 days. We arn't going to make any moves and Counsell will step in for him at 3B for the next few days. Saturday April 6th: Stars (1-3) Vs Giants (3-1) Steve Cooke gave up a first inning homer to Matt Williams but we came back to take the lead and he left after seven up 3-1. Don Pall would come on in the ninth up 4-1 and give up four runs, the final two coming on a Dave Martinez inside the park homer. With 2 outs in the bottom of the inning, Bill Spiers hit an RBI single off of Rod Beck and into extra innings we would go. With 2 outs in the bottom of the tenth, Tony Eusebio hit a game winning pinch hit RBI single off of Beck as we won a pretty huge game even if it is early. Eric Young had 3 hits and Spiers had 2 RBI. Final Score: Stars 6 Giants 5 (10 Innings) RP Bill Hurst has a calf strain and needs to go on the 15 day DL. RP Chris Bushing will come up and take his spot in the pen. Sunday April 7th: Stars (2-3) Vs Giants (3-2) Powered by Alex Fernandez and his 8.2 inning gem we rolled through youngster John Roselli and the Giants. Helton homered, Eric Young and Jordan each had 3 hits. Fernandez was within an out of the shutout when he surrendered 3 straight hits and was lifted. Final Score: Stars 5 Giants 1 Well the injury bug is not being kind to us so far this year. Don Pall has an inflamed rotator cuff and will miss close to a month. Uh oh. We call up RP John Ericks and will go to an old fashioned closer by committee for the next month as I am hesitant to designate any one guy a closer, we'll play it situation by situation. Nomo labored but got through 6 innings with a 6-3 lead against Curt Lyons. Up 8-3 in the ninth our pen would allow 4 runs but John Hope came in and got Kevin Mitchell and Reggie Sanders to shut the door and get the win. Burnitz had 2 homers and 4 RBI. Spiers added 2 RBI and Young had 2 steals. Kevin Mitchell homered for them and Juan Samuel had 2 RBI. Final Score: Stars 8 Reds 7 Wednesday April 10th: Stars (4-3) At Reds (4-3) We got to a wild John Roper for five 2nd inning runs. The Reds would come back with 5 of their own in the 4th and Hamilton would leave after five down 8-6. Down 10-6 in the ninth we would rally to tie it off of Rob Dibble and Scott Sulivan. John Hope would then proceed to walk in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Crap on a cracker. Eric Young and Bill Spiers each had 2 RBI for us. Tim Wallach had 2 homers for them and Felix Jose had a monster game going 4-4 with a homer and 4 RBI. Final Score: Reds 11 Stars 10 Jeromy Burnitz has a bone bruise in his right hand and will miss a couple of days. No moves are needed. Detroit is off to an 8-1 start, shocking a lot of people. Meanwhile the Red Sox are 0-9. Apparently Zane Smith suffered a ruptured cervical disc early in spring training and is still 2 months away from returning for them. So with Clemens out they are missing their top two starters and are really showing it. Thursday April 11th: Stars (4-4) At Reds (5-3) Shane Reynolds entered the 6th inning up 5-3 and promptly allowed a 2 run homer to Randy Milligan and left tied 5-5. Tied at 6 going into the ninth our pen just had nothing left. Hope had to come in with a tired arm and walked in the winning run as we lose another game where we had the lead. A real kick in the pants this series was. Young, Spiers, Hanson and Womack all had 2 hits for us. Wallach was 3-4 with 2 RBI for them. I really wanted to go home on an upswing and get a decent crowd or two but I doubt many people will show up tomorrow. Final Score: Reds 7 Stars 6 Eric Young has been caught stealing 6 times in 9 attempts so far. That's not so good. Our .304 team batting average is 2nd best in the majors. Our 6.04 ERA is 2nd worst. |

Your lineup is performing well, which I thought it would. Hopefully your pitching gets some consistency...but you do have Nomo in the rotation

Friday April 12th: Stars (4-5) Vs Padres (2-7)
We jumped on Glen Dishman for 6 runs in the first two innings. Cooke went 7.1 and Chris Bushing got two big outs to get us out of the inning with a 6-4 lead. John Ericks pitched a perfect ninth for the save. Womack and Jordan both went 2-4 with 3 RBI. Derek Bell went 2-4 with a homer and a steal for the Padres. Attendance was down to 5,200. Yikes. Final Score: Stars 6 Padres 4 Saturday April 13th: Stars (5-5) Vs Padres (2-8) Fernandez labored through 6 innings and left down 4-3 to Matt Morris. We would score four times in the 7th to take the lead. Our pen would close them out with Hope getting the final two outs for the save. Goodwin went 4-4 and he and Helton each had 2 RBI. Stan Javier was 3-5 for the Padres. Final Score: Stars 7 Padres 4 Sunday April 14th: Stars (6-5) Vs Padres (2-9) Nomo left with nobody out in the fifth inning after giving up a 3 run homer to Benito Santiago that tied the game at 5-5. Chris Bushing would give up 2 runs in the seventh. We would get run in the bottom of the inning but that was it as their bullpen held on for the win and they avoid the sweep. I really wanted the sweep, I want to stop playing .500 and get out ahead of ourselves here. Goodwin went 3-4, he's on fire. Helton went 3-3. Stan Javier had 3 more hits and Santiago homered. Final Score: Padres 7 Stars 6 Monday April 15th: Off Day The Indians at 10-2 and Tigers at 10-3 are setting the pace in the AL East early. The Dodgers at 9-4 with a 3.00 team ERA are in first in the NL West while the surprising Expos and their league leading team ERA of 2.66 are just a half game out in the NL East. |

Tuesday April 16th: Stars (6-6) Vs Astros (6-6)
Hamilton went 6 strong and left up 4-1 against Rafael Quirico. We led 5-1 going to the ninth when John Hope decided it would be fun to raise my blood pressure. He allowed 3 runs but got of it by striking out Biggio to end the game and secure the win. That assface. Eric Young was 3-5, Womack had 2 hits and 3 steals. Bichette had 3 hits for the Astros. Final Score: Stars 5 Astros 4 Our batting averages right now are insane. Young .389, Spiers .395, Helton .431, Goodwin .327. Wednesday April 17th: Stars (7-6) Vs Astros (6-7) Shane Reynolds gave up four first inning runs, including a 2 run bomb to Ken Caminiti. He would leave after 4 innings having given up 8 runs, nice. The barrage would continue off of Abbott in the sixth as Caminiti hit another homer, this one a 3 run shot. Jumpin Jehova, Caminiti would add another 3 run homer in the ninth off of Chris Bushing. Get this friggin thing done with already. So in summation, they crack out 21 hits, 6 of which were by Biggio. Caminiti went 4-6 with 3 homers and 9 RBI and Gonzalez and Bagwell each had 3 hits and 2 RBI. Goodwin had 3 hits and 2 steals, Womack had 2 steals. Final Score: Texas 16 Oklahoma State 7 Thursday April 18th: Stars (7-7) Vs Astros (7-7) Steve Cooke pitched 7 strong innings and left up 8-1 against Jeff Juden. Our pen closed out a nice bounce back win. Spiers had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Eusebio had hits. Ken Caminiti went 4-5 with his fourth homer in two days for them. Final Score: Stars 8 Astros 3 |
