Of the bands I met or at least had brushes with back in the day, none were any nicer & more normal than these guys. Ugly bunch of mothers, but very cool.

Most amazing thing about Dangerous Toys was finding out that the lead singer was formerly in progressive metal band Watchtower and almost ended up in Pantera (replacing the guy who eventually ended up in Lord Tracy),

Peter Bradley Adams's sampler CD can be streamed at Noisetrade. He's one half of the former duo named eastmountainsouth, who only made one album, but it's my favorite one shot album by an artist. He's early stuff post break up was ok, but I'm liking this a lot.

I guess this would explain why I don't listen to disposable pop music, because that song is virtually indistinguishable from every other tween-directed pop song I've heard. I don't like it, but it doesn't sound any worse than most of the other stuff I hear on Radio Disney. I can't tell the difference between the shit and the supposed high quality stuff. That song is certainly not on the Chocolate rain level, though.

You are listening to Los Angeles

Two simultaneous streams -- one random ambient tracks, the other live LAPD radio traffic. It fascinates me.

That's because when you are trying to communicate a message, a true artist doesn't feel constrained by the silly conventions of typical song structure.

Nope. It's a company out in Cal., Ark Music Factory, that is basically taking young kids who have big dreams of stardom and then trying to see if any of them can catch on like Bieber.

It's growing on me, I didn't think much of it at first.

Also listening to the new Cave Singers disc and remastered versions of the first two The Books discs -- Thought for Food and Lost and Safe.

I thought James Blake would be right up my alley but so far its not clicking.

But mostly I've been listening to You Are Listening to Los Angeles most every night this past couple weeks....well, the Chicago feed anyway.

Got a new 5 o'clock whistle up on the blog
Friday 5 o’clock Whistle (4/1/11) | Jon's Three Cents

Fits the "what am I listening to" well with 5 newer bands/newer songs from
Black Stone Cherry, Adelita's Way, Halestorm, Pop Evil, and a band I hadn't heard (or heard of) until today, West Virginia based Bobaflex

I can't believe I never thought of listening to Eddie Trunk's Friday night show on Q104 in NYC until tonight.

Great stuff, as good a three hours of radio as I've ever heard basically, in spite of the fact that his producer was basically unconscious (aka passed out drunk) after the Trunk book release party at the Hard Rock earlier in the night.

Friday nights, 11p-2a eastern at Q104.3 - New York's Classic Rock
If you like hard rock/metal, you'll love this stuff.

He's got a show on XM every Monday night from 6-10 on Da Boneyard. I rarely hear it because I'm rarely in the car at that time, but from what I've heard, it's basically the same thing.

I can't decide whether Hawksley Workman or Jon Crosby is the coolest motherfucker on the planet right now. I guess they're like 1A and 1B in my book.

Not new, just some music I'm groovin' to today. The second song is probably my unofficial theme song with my wife and kids in Florida until next Sunday.

Lots of new stuff out today that I've been listening to including TVOTR's Nine Types of Light of course. It's good and I think it should be well received. It's not fitting my music mood right now, so I'll probably spend more time with it later.

New LP from Alison Krauss & Union Station (Paper Airplane) but I'll probably be overplaying Vivian Girls (Share The Joy) and Crystal Stilts (In Love With Oblivion) for the next bit. I
found a Norweigian band that I'd never heard before called Madrugada and have been enjoying i a lot.
