Serious question - I don't watch a lot of baseball.

That's my take on it. Ump was not happy with being shown up and took it out on the player.

Or he had a dinner date he had to get to.

I guess the US was ready to take out their aggressions on poor little Canada after that Mexico game yesterday. Goodness.

Have to feel a little bad for the 19-year old Canada started.

best thing about the WBC is the variety of pros that you get to see. I loved seeing these independent guys getting their shots here and there. There was a guy playing CF for Nicaragua who played in the Pecos League (IND) and the rookie of the year in Nicaragua was a relief pitcher, who came in and struck out 3 major leaguers to close out a game they weren't going to win against the Dominican. Shit like that is beautiful

Then you've got the whole Columbia/GB game. Great story lines all over.

One thing I've noticed is how much better the game is with a pitch clock. The difference between the flow of the wbc vs. spring training is night and day.

I agree, but I love the diversity of players that we have in the WBC. Some of these guys have never played outside their home countries, and some of them are going to get pro contracts with ML clubs as a result. NIC had a guy from the Frontier League on the mound. That's the league where our local club is in, and even though it's comparable to "A" ball, it's great to see them try and match up.

Nicaragua pitcher earns contract with Tigers after striking out Juan Soto, other stars in WBC outing - CBSSports.com

Funny, I was watching the DOM game yesterday, and Machado looked like he was taking BP with every, single swing. The poor NIC pitchers had nothing for him. He went 1-4 with a HR, but literally, was 8 feet short of a 4HR game.

Did ya happen to see what happened the day after the terrible college ump game?

Game 2 of the series? New Orleans 35-3 over Miss. Valley State .... 28 hits in just 6 innings of hitting. 11 walks and 4 hbp contributed

Game 3 was closer ... 16-3 UNO.

Well, the celebration after the PR v DR game went horribly, horribly wrong.

Took the wind out of the result for sure.

Great game though.

Edwin Diaz, Mets closer, shut down the Dominican Republic, but during the celebration he pretty seriously hurt his knee or ankle and had to be wheeled off in a wheel chair. The team just broke.

It's a right knee injury. He didn't put any weight on it after he hurt it. The team confirmed the injury and said they would do more imaging tomorrow. Which to me is code for "it's bad, and we don't want to tell you how bad it is right now, because we need to know just how bad it is, and we don't want to talk about it right now."

The celebration wasn't even that big. Just a bunch of guys hugging and jumping up and down. Then they just stopped as Diaz fell on the ground.

This would be a good time for teams to encourage players to get into stretching programs and to stay limber. There's no way that a light jump up and down should cause that kind of injury. They weren't going crazy at all.

Very interesting scenario almost played out last night. Colombia needed to win by 3 to advance. USA was up by 1 going into the 9th. If the winning run ever came up to hit, the USA could guarantee advancing by walking two runners in and losing by 1.

But the real story was that if the USA won the game, then Great Britain got an auto bid into the next WBC. If they lost, they didn't. So that was a great secondary storyline.

exactly, it wasn't crazy at all. Just one of those freak accidents.

Injury prevention programs are a thing. By way of example, love them or hate them, soccer players like Ryan Giggs & Cristiano Ronaldo invested time heavily in this kind of work as a way to continue to play at a high level into their late 30s.

Yes, freak accidents occur (Kevin Durant slipping on water is a good example), but I'm increasingly of the opinion that we have so much medical and physiological information now, plus essentially unlimited training resources at the highest levels of sport, that durability is now very much a skill.

Looks like Nimmo's injury is going to just be week to week but if the suspected broken thumb for Altuve is as it appears then there goes another star down for a while.

Can't wait for tonight to be over so the focus can get back to the MLB season.

Speaking of which, I have always purchased Extra Innings through DirecTV but since we just went streaming, I am looking at an MLB.TV subscription. Searching around for deals so I don't have to pay the full $150, I ran across a decent deal (outside of having T-Mobile who gets it for free).

If you sign up for an MLB players alumni association "home run fan" membership for $25, you get a bunch of discounts, including 50% off MLB.TV. So even if you don't use the membership for anything else, you effectively get MLB.TV for $100.

Love that we get to see Ohtani and Trout h2h at the end. Baseball at its finest.

Not the ending we wanted, but baseball still wins. I love it.

I enjoyed the WBC.

Yes there were a couple of injuries. Though, arguably, those guys could just as easily have been hurt in Spring Training.

I was happy that, generally, the biggest stars came out. Without them, it's nothing. Though maybe this needs to be in November (?) or something. It's not like Messi can only play for a third of the game or Ronaldo is being load managed in the World Cup.

Banner injury day for my teams. KJ Hamler is out 4-6 months, yet another serious Broncos WR injury, and then 30 minutes later, Rhys Hoskins tears his ACL.

Not exactly MLB but close enough...

I saw this a few days ago but apparently it's blown up nationally now. It's so ridiculous it looks staged but it's not.

I laughed so hard and I am fortunate enough to not see any evidence of people trying to identify the catcher to make fun of her.

For four games only, the Eugene Emeralds will re-brand and become the Eugene Exploding Whales.

Yes, you read that correctly.

During April and May, the minor league baseball team said it will take on an “alternate identity” and sell jerseys bearing a whale clutching a stick of dynamite for good measure.

This baseball team chose an exploding whale as its new identity | CNN
