Be prepared to be pissed. Most of the "experts" out there are saying it has no chance of being renewed. I have every episode on my DVR, but with the multiple delays and the bad time slot, I didn't start watching because I'm tired of shows that I like getting cancelled after 13 episodes. |

I felt the end to the season was pretty strong, with a couple of the best episodes there. I wonder how long until FOX either cancels or commits to season 2?

I believe Fox will announce the fate of all of their shows by May 18th.

Yeah I still like this show and I like Alan Tudyk as Alpha.
I believe it's May 18th as well, since I wasn't too happy about it being before the Terminator movie comes out (thus I think negatively affecting The Sarah Chronicles' chance to survive). |

Fingers crossed that this carries on. It seemed to finish really strong and set up a lot of interesting story lines for next season. Tudyk did a hell of a job, especially as the "builder" before the twist reveal.
For a show that took a bit to get going, they've done a nice job of developing all the characters to a point where I'd like to get more information on almost all of them.

Live Feed now saying Dollhouse is renewed. 13 episodes, reduced budget, still Friday nights. Same link as above.

At least 13 more eps, but doesn't look all that great for beyond that. Though this has been a very strange renewal announcement week. All of the lower rated cult-fan favs have been renewed so far.

I'm hoping some of the networks are rewarded for not shooting extra pilots and letting the fan favorites live a while longer. I'd like to see a trend of these shows getting extra life, but they do need to get enough viewers to make some money too.

That's why I was so surprised. I know Dollhouse had absolutely horrid ratings. Like they could have stuck mostly anything and gotten similar.
But I guess they cut the budget and saw if it can somewhat profitable that way.

Yeah, since Fox owns the show, they can make money off of DVD sales if they can make the show cheap enough. Plus, on Fridays, there is not going to be any TV show that does incredibly well, so Dollhouse had a lower bar to jump over.

I mean... i think we need to look at EVERYTHING.
-The show is on Friday night... you're not expecting a world-beater there -The DVR numbers are strong -The online viewing numbers are strong -The online *sales* numbers are strong (anytime i would check the most recent epsiode was in the itunes Top 10) -It should do well in DVD sales due to a nerd/psycho fan base A lot of these secondary things can help overcome the lack of mass appeal. If you have a smaller fanbase, but more importantly that fanbase puts money in the pockets of the network.... it's still a win. And obviously im pumped it's coming back for a second season. It feels like the show was actually finding its legs in the second half of the season. And I hope networks start doing this more often. Honestly, how many of you favorite shows were best in season 1? Almost any show gets better when given time. |

I'm interested that they are cutting the budget. It did not strike me as a high budget show to begin with. I wonder where those cuts will come from.
Part of me thinks that if the show gets even more stripped down in terms of special effects, it will have to focus even more on plot and character--and that seems all to the good to me. |

Im hearing the biggest cutback will be fight scenes. They take an incredibly long time to shoot, and thus cost a lot of money, for only a few seconds in the final show. Im really looking forward to seeing the DVD only episode, it was shot very cheaply and should indicate things to come. |

Ok, one didn't
(Honestly, I forgot about it). I think that's more of it having a few seasons to establish itself and it didn't.

Two, including one as a midseason replacement?
Don't worry, Dollhouse will be right there next year and will probably end up on the chopping block. This is Fox and them trying to do pretty hardcore SciFi- we know how that turns out. SI

"Fringe" actually has good ratings.
I think people forget... it's about the RATINGS, not how cult fav a show is . That being said, some interesting philosophical questions raised by the show, but I STILL don't buy that Ballard just jumps right in bed with the Dollhouse.

And given Whedon's past story lines/character development, I'd be amazed if that topic isn't visited more next season.

I read this a few days ago. I can't say I am surprised, the show just wasn't all that great. I'm as big a Whedonite as there is and I only ever managed to get through the first 4-5 episodes. No one had even posted in this thread since last season. Well, hopefully Whedon will move on to bigger and better things.

Yeah, I was losing interest this season because they were focusing too much on Elisha Dushku. The last episode (before it's current break) was the best of the season and it was about one of the other dolls.

Yes, she was a particularly poor choice of actresses for this role. Her range is incredibly limited. She was great as Faith and the times she was playing a Faith-like performance it seemed fine, but any other persona was quite an unbelievable stretch for her.

My hope is that this follows the route of Buffy and Angel and explores the story going forward via comics/graphic novels. I love the idea behind the show but given that it was with Fox it never really had a chance. The fact that Whedon has in essence already shown the ending, I'm really hoping that he's going to give us the bridge as I really think that we're likely just starting to get past the surface and into the really good parts of the story he had plotted.

Apparently in answer to the OP... not many.
I was and thought they were going in some REALLY interesting directions. The entire Sierra plotline was fantastic and Topher's moral dilemma was just well done.

Yeah, I like the concept and some ideas. This past episode was so good, kinda sucks that there were so many so-so episodes though. I'm hoping they actually air the unaired series finale from the first season as the season two finale. I thought that one was well done for a finale.

No surprise really given the ratings and Fox's earlier decision to delay showing more episodes till December I think? I found the concept of the show morally intriguing and there's not many shows I can say that about. I didn't mind Elisha Dushka as the lead actress, I thought she did a good job with the part. Having said that, perhaps it says something when the latest episode to be shown did not feature her and was one of the show's best. Really liked the insight into Topher's character.
