I apologize but at this time I am not going to be able to post the standings. The simple reason is that I had another computer crash on my computer down in the basement, which is the computer that had the standings file in excel. It should be fixed by the end of next week, at which time I hope to be able to use my work computer and my other house computer to get through week 15. This would put us through cross divison play, and would be a perfect time to reveal the standings, after 8 weeks of conference play. However, we do still have the top 25 poll (which I was smart enough to create on the good, working computer upstairs): and here it is.

Breaking News
The commissioner of the Whatifsports sim dynasty has made an announcement on the postseason format for the first season. When asked, here is what Mike Schaplowsky had to say: "Obviously, all conferences will have a conference tournament. All 16 teams will be involved. The top team in the east division will play the bottom team in the west division, and so forth. The team with the best record within the conference will get the top seed. Anybody that is confused by this, we invite you to ask questions." "As far as after conference tournaments, here is what I have decided... All 128 teams will get a chance to extend their season. We will have 4 postseason tournaments, the NCAA tournament, the NIT, the CBI, and the CIT. Prestige of the tournaments is in the exact order that I mentioned, which means you will see the worst of the worst in the CIT. Now, as far as numbers, we will have 64 in the NCAA tournament, 32 in the NIT, and 16 in each the CBI and CIT." "As far as number of teams from each conference in each tournament.. we are going to try an equality project this first season. Each conference will get 8 teams into the NCAA, 4 teams into the NIT, and 2 teams in each of the CBI and CIT. There will be no more or no less for either tournament. I apologize in advance to any deserving teams that might get left out of the NCAA tournament, but this is what I have decided. All you readers, feel free to leave your feedback. I am going to try to set each tournament up so that no conference teams meet each other until very late in the tournament. I am looking at having just 2 teams from each conference in each region of the NCAA tournament.. 1 on the top half of the bracket, the other on the bottom half. This would insure no meetings until the Elite Eight. Now obviously this may not always come to form, based on seedings, but I will do my best." "One final note as far as automatic qualifiers... the top team from each division (east and west) of each conference gets an auto bid to the NCAA tournament, as well as the conference tournament winner. If the conference tournament winner was the top team in their division, then the third auto bid will go to the conference tournament runner-up. Ideally, we would like to have the east division champ meet the west division champ in the conference tournament championship game, as these would be the best 2 teams from each conference. If that comes to form in any conference tournament, with those 2 teams already qualifying, the third auto bid would go to the better 2nd place team in the conference." "Folks I know I have thrown a lot at you today, and I am sure there will be comments and questions. I welcome them all. For you loyal readers, I am asking for questions and comments about my postseason format, good or bad. I will respond to all, so don't hold back. Thanks to everybody for reading and following along with this dynasty, and I hope to see a fair amount of questions and comments within the next few days." |

I am seriously considering scrapping this project, for several reasons. 1, the 2012-2013 quicksims are out on whatifsports, and several times I have quicksimmed with a 2012-2013 team instead of a 2011-2012 team. Also, I'm not halfway through the season and I'm already burnt out with it. I need to figure out a way to make things shorter. Then, I've got a few people who are request certain teams to be in it. bbgunn wants Hawaii, and I've gotten a couple private messages from people who would be interested in certain teams.
So what I may do, and if anybody wants to help they can, is figure out a new setup for the 2012-2013 season, the teams to use, things like that. If we can get a setup going, then I can restart this project using the 2012-2013WIS setup. I would start it in the fall, probably around September or October (honestly I'm to the point where I'm almost in full baseball mode right now.) So here are some questions I would like help answering: 1. How many teams? Is 128 good? or too many? or to few? 2. How should the teams be selected? Should I do like I did last time? top 8 conferences then fill them with the best teams from other conferences, plus whatever teams people want to see? 3. Non-conference or no non-conference? If I do non-conference how should I set it up? 4. How should conference play be set up? 5. Postseason play? How should it be set up? These are all questions I'm seriously considering for the next one, and I am looking for responses helping me answer these questions? I'm open to any ideas, so I would appreciate any help I can get, so don't be shy with your opinions folks! Thanks |

Hey, you don't have to put Hawaii in the game. I was just asking about them, but I would read the dynasty no matter what.

bbgunn, trust me, its not just the fact that you want Hawaii in the game, its a lot of reasons.
First and foremost, I've kind of lost interest in this particular one. It was going to be a 29 week season.. I'm at week 13 and already getting burnt out. The first 10 weeks were fun, the last 3 weeks have seemed like a chore. The next one I do needs to be shortened somehow. Second, its getting to be baseball season, and quite honestly I'm more focused on baseball projects than basketball projects (although I am trying to get a dynasty going in FBCB soon because that is a basketball game I always enjoy playing.) Other than that I have 2 baseball projects I focus on during baseball season. Third, whatifsports has put the 2012-2013 teams onto the college basketball sim. I kept simming games with them because I would forget to set the year to 2011-2012, so my results were getting skewed and I kept having to resim games. It's a combo of all these things bbgunn, but I have no problem putting Hawaii in the next one I do. I just have got to figure out a format that is shorter than this one was going to be, so that I don't lose interest halfway into it. This is where I'm struggling, so any help there would be greatly appreciated. |

Since you plan on doing a tournament at the end anyway, I would just make one big tournament if it was me. That way you could do more detail on the games individually. By my count, if you put all the teams available in, you'd have 382(could be off one or two, looks like Delaware might be in there twice, but anyway).
Top 130 would get a first-round bye(base it on regular-season record or somesuch), you'd have the other 252 playing for the remaining 126 spots, then you'd be down to a 256-team single elimination standard tournament. |

Bryan, there are actually 347 D1 NCAA basketball teams. The only reason I know that is because I went to Wikipedia and found it there.
As for a big tournament.. I had thought about that idea, but I really did kind of enjoy doing the conference and season play. Maybe eliminate non-conference and just have conference play is an idea. Thanks for your suggestion, I appreciate it, keep them coming! |
