I think we have an overly positive outlook on this if we really think we can find 30 owners that will stay interested with fictional players. Personally I would love this however in this last RWBL it seemed that once the current players started retiring people suddenly wanted to drop their teams.
I think realistically the options are as korme mentioned opening day 2012 or possibly starting in like 1992 and simming 20 years ahead with real life draft classes for something different. |

All the more reason to start with fictional players.

I prefer fiction as well, just figured more people would rather play with real players.
I like fiction because it's easy to get caught up in the name of a player and misvalue him. |

Count me in the fictional line. We'd also eliminate the contention of multiple people wanting to run the same team.
Edit: If we go fictional, do we want people to pick a city/name first and then sim it out? Or pick teams (draft style) after the sim is done? How fluid/easy/tied to financials are the locations of the franchises in a mature league? Last edited by Vince, Pt. II : 04-10-2012 at 02:00 AM. |

I would keep it MLB cities, but possibly randomize the markets or set them all as equal? By letting teams pick their cities, when they leave, you have a team at a city that has no interest, unless you let the new owner "move" the team

Yeah this is my big problem with fictional. Somebody chooses their initial team to be the bumfuck (WY) chickadoos LOLZ and makes their logo a giant chicken giving you the finger, and then leaves 3 months later. No way you are ever going to get someone else to take that team and the league becomes a joke If we limit to cities of a certain size and have some good taste sanity checks with the naming, that is major gripe with fictional out of the way. Don't have to limit to MLB cities only, but there should definitely be a minimum market size and only 2 teams per metro area maybe |

Ugh. Whatever ends up happening you guys can have the domain. We are making it too difficult. I wanted to start in whatever year with a clean slate and random real players going forward. That doesn't appear to be an option and is we have 15 people making suggestions nothing will ever be right for them all.

You can always have a group that determines if the names and locations are acceptable to the league, that's easy to resolve. Plus a new owner would always be given the option to move and change their team name during the next offseason. |

Looks like I'm late to the party, but I'd like to join if there is room for me. Historical or fictional doesn't matter to me. The team doesn't matter much, either. If it is a historical league, I'd prefer the Mariners or Nats in that order if they are available, but I am wedded to neither.

+1 I'm open to any style but greatly prefer exactly what DanGarion has posted here. I'm wondering if we're overthinking this and, honestly, need to consider breaking into two different leagues. |

We're getting close to 35-40 people now as it is. Maybe 2 leagues is the best idea, fictional players vs real players.
I agree with the sentiment that there are too many ideas flying around. Of course, I say this after I give an idea. Anyway, whoever is commishing, make a decision and let's get this party started. |

I don't think we'll have any issues finding suitable logos. There are 1000s of them available over in the mods section in OOTPland.
If we go fictional, I would like to use my Indianapolis 500s unis/logos. |

I'd have to see how the fictional league would be setup before I'd join. I like fictional for solo play but am not sure about it for MP.
Like I said, I thought the real rosters were so good this year that I'm much more interested in a real roster league. |

Real 2012 setup, scouting/coaching off, tone down player creation modifiers so the first draft doesn't have a million great prospects compared to the more modestly rated real players, I also like toning down "talent change randomness: to 60-70. I'll do any type of league really but that would be my preference, that is how I think the game works best in single-player.
IMO: Real 2012 MLB >>> random historical debut league >>>>>>>>>> pure fictional |

I think you guys just need 1 or 3 people to be a commish and set up a league. Anyone that is interested will join. League creation by committee seems to be a recipe for disaster.

Exactly, at this point i think the best thing to do is what SirFozzie did already, somebody volunteer to be commish (that is imho the key of any league as to be commish requires time and effort), decide what kind of league it is going to be, setup rules, rosters etc and then let the rest decide if that league fits them or not.

All interested people in a 2012 opening day MLB league please submit a list of 3-5 teams that you are interested in, along with your FOFC Username to [email protected]. We will do the best that we can in order to place people with the teams that they prefer. People who have previously played in an RWBL/JBL league will be given some preferential treatment for signup.
As of now, Bug and I will be co-commissioning the league, and I suspect that we will be joined by a few others who can help in capacities as needed. Requirements-You will need a Facebook account in order to participate in this league, as we will be using that as the primary form of communication in the league. There will also be Game generated HTML and statslab online for the league, assuming i can get statslab working. We will attempt to place all interested parties on either a team, a waiting list or as a future expansion team(if necessary). Unfortunately the supply of available slots may exceed the amount of interested parties. Coaches and scouts will be used in this league. Opening day 2012 rosters will be used. Other rules and such will be fleshed out. I'd prefer to be able to examine the game for a little bit of time before rushing out and starting the league and running into an "oh shit" situation that could have been avoided. |

I'll join this real MLB 2012 one, have no interest on the random debut league as I don't know baseball history enough to properly enjoy it.

Yeah, I have to admit (and in some ways, this is a plug for Sir Fozzie's league) that I thought I knew baseball history well and I've realized there are some big gaps BUT that being said, I've really enjoyed discovering 'new' ballplayers. So I definitely encourage people to consider signing up. In my solo league, my pitching staff right now is Steve Avery, 19 y/o Babe Ruth, Chuck Finley, Clay Bucholz, and Norwood Gibson. It's a cool mix to enjoy. In my other solo league, the top of my rotation is Rube Waddell and Randy Johnson. I think seeing the mix of players is a big part of the fun as well. |

Just an update, there are almost enough sign ups to fill the league. I only have a few slots left.
