Episodes will air through February 21.

They will make all eight episodes, because Sony might try to do something else with it.

That's too bad. I liked this show. This might not be a popular opinion and I never watched Ed, but to me, I love the concept, supporting players, and storylines (so far), but the lead actor just doesn't do it for me. He seems a little overly witty to me (kind of like Mike Lupica) and his appearance makes him look like a fool half of the time (wearing 'do rags is a big one)--and not in an endearing way.

My wife is going to be super pissed. This is the fourth hour-long, evening drama that she has began watching from the beginning that has been cancelled in its first few episodes (North Shore, Eyes, Reunion, and now this).

That sucks - there was something about that show I really liked. But at the same time it's not altogether surprising - offbeat shows like that just don't seem to stick around too long.

And I was all ready for Wayne to become the next Davey Jones.

Edit Dola - Completely agreed on the do-rag. Could an unfortunate fashion faux pas cause so much damage?

I kept telling them to bring in Julie Bowen.

Man, what is it with the networks - they don't give a show any time to develop. Sucks.

I just turned on MTV Hits and I heard the song that Wayne did on Love Monkey. It was the song that he did for the music video but a totally different one than what was shown on the show. I guess he is a real artist, the line at the end said his name was Teddy Geiger.

Well, from the sounds of this article and others, it has been completely shelved, with no plans on burning the remaining episodes. Reruns of NCIS and CSI will air in that time slot until the Amazing Race comes back on at the end of this month.

That quote is from a CBS network person. Sony is the studio involved. They (Sony) are making the final episodes (and they believe they have some options on what to do with those). They are scheduled to film through March 5.

Weak!

Who the hell runs these networks? You advertise the hell out of a show and then pull it after 3 episodes – why would anyone even get interested in a new show these days if the networks aren’t going to give them even half a chance.

Here comes the Giants big prospect up for his first big league at bat - first pitch strike on the outside corner, second pitch ball a little low, wait we have a stop in the play the GM is on the field - oh their going to release the kid - GM felt as though he should have hit a grand slam with at least one of those pitches, who cares if no one was on base.

Is it rare for shows to catch on after a weak start or is it because they aren't given a chance to catch on? It's the chicken and the egg debate.

I say when you market the crap out of the thing and viewship is weak you are toast so you might as well pull it. It ain't the old days when there were only a handful of shows on to choose from.

I agree that it might be a little too soon and they probably shouldn't have pulled it until they gave it it's full run but....it really wasn't that good of a show IMO. I could never see it gaining on word of mouth, which is what they were probably seeing as well. I can honestly say I won't miss this one too much. I have to agree that the general trend is a little disturbing of networks yanking shows without giving them a fighting chance in hell. A couple examples that I remember are Freaks and Geeks (I don't think they showed it on consecutive weeks and/or on the same night during it's entire run) and American Dreams (good show for Sunday night audience but another one they promoted to death and couldn't get to have any momentum). At least I can count on another stellar episode of Fear Factor or CSI:Milwaukee

Put John Stamos as the love monkey and that's a winner.

I actually thought they didnt promote American Dreams enough. That is a show I really miss and the way that NBC left it hanging was just horrible.

Well American Dreams was on for like 3 seasons. It's hard to say they didn't give that one a fighting chance.

The show was good, but I think the name killed it and a lot of people didn't give it a chance solely based on that.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The short-lived CBS series "Love Monkey" has found new life on VH1. At least temporarily.

The cable channel will air all eight hourlong episodes of the show beginning next month, a network spokeswoman said Wednesday.

No new episodes have been ordered.

The dramatic comedy, which looks at life and love through the eyes of a cynical, single, 30-something music scout, premiered on CBS in January. The network ordered eight episodes, but the series was scrapped after three.

VH1 will air the three previously seen shows back-to-back on April 11, starting at 7 p.m. EDT. The remaining five installments will air weekly on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. beginning April 18.

"Love Monkey," based on Kyle Smith's 2004 book of the same name, stars Tom Cavanagh as protagonist Tom Farrell. Jason Priestly, Larenz Tate and Christopher Wiehl also star.

I meant to post this news last night, but forgot.

The goal is that it might be picked up by the new CW next fall, but they aren't sure how realistic that is.

I can't imagine the CW picking it up. They are already overloaded shows since they're combining networks and Love Monkey's ratings don't justify it. I thought it was a really promising show, but people just weren't interested in it.

But the C half of the CW has already sunk a bunch of money into LM, so there is a bit of a vested interest. Not saying it will happen, I'm just saying that's what the goal is.

Tom Cavanaugh does have a pilot in the works, but his casting is "secondary" to Love Monkey meaning if Love Monkey gets picked up he will be recast for the pilot (assuming that gets picked up, too.) Something similar happened last year when John Stamos was gonna be a regular on ER this season, but then his show Jake in Progress surprisingly got renewed.

Yeah, but sinking even more money into it seems like a bad idea (from a pure business standpoint). I just don't see how it can succeed, especially with the more limited affiliates that CW brings to the table as opposed to CBS. I certainly hope I'm completely wrong and they give it a go.

Thanks! Going to TiVo season pass this...maybe we can figure out how to transfer shows from TiVo to VCR so we can save it, I wouldn't mind having this around to watch every now and then...I really liked the show.

No, you are thinking of Tom Cruise, he was married to Nicole first...now she has graduated to Keith Urban, who I am sure is totally and blissfully heterosexual

It's being rebroadcast on VH-1, at 7, 8 and 9 pm...the last episodes will be aired sometime in the next week or two (I think).

The CW is the new network being developed by merging the WB and UPN (I think - don't quote me on the UPN thing).

Tonight on VH1 they are broadcasting the three episodes that previously aired on CBS.

Beginning next week they will air the previously unaired episodes.

The CW is the combo of the WB and UPN which will start airing shows this fall.

Ran across this story on Teddy Geiger a while ago, figured I'd drop the link in here for anyone who was interested.

Bump.

Watched the "last" episode, from this week, on Tivo today. Both my wife and I have enjoyed the series, although I still contend that his choice of headwear often makes him look like a dumbass. I am pretty sure this was the final episode that they have filmed (and by the way, Natasha Bedingfield was smoking hot).

Any word on whether or not this show has any chance to be picked up or have they definitely pulled the plug?

Sucks that potentially solid shows get pulled so quickly. Oh well, maybe next time out will be a hit.

Any time a show lasts 2 or 3 episodes I always assume that the quality of the show was only a MINOR factor... there's no way a viewing audience judged them that quickly I would think... has more to do with timeslot, what was before and after it, etc...

I'm amazed that this show failed after 3 episodes yet some others have multiple seasons, but whatever ...

You would be wrong in this case. Love Monkey's time slot never changed, but it lost over a million viewers with each airing. If the people who tuned in the first time it was aired would have continued to watch the show it would probably still be on.

They would have been looking at John McEnroe numbers if the show continued. Can you add to Zero John, becuase that is what your talk show's Neilsen numbers were.

Fair point, didn't know those detailed numbers.

No doubt the decline in viewers for each each of the three episodes was the reason CBS axed it, but there were absolutely mitigating factors that hurt the show. First off, it was on CBS -- it doesn't fit anywhere on the CBS schedule. It might have fit somewhat with the Monday comedies, but no way did it fit with lead-in NCIS. Second, it was up against American Idol. 'Nuff said right there.

This was also the kind of show that was going to need to find an audience, and that's clearly not an option for networks these days. I know it gets old, but if network TV operated in the '80s like it does today, Cheers wouldn't have made it out of its first season and Seinfeld would have been cancelled after the pilot aired.

I was hoping that the try out on VH1 might allow the show to find a niche on cable. The interesting thing on its CBS airings is that while it was tanking in the overall ratings, it's demos were not bad. As we've seen, cable is quickly becoming home to some outstanding shows that have failed in network tryouts -- Monk, Battlestar Galactica -- and USA, Sci-Fi and FX have some outstanding shows right now. You can make good money on cable drawing 4 million viewers, but not on the networks.

I don't think there is a place on network TV for a show like Love Monkey right now. The pendulum will swing -- wasn't that long ago that everyone though the network drama was dead, now there are more drams than comedies. I think NBC would have been a better it, but NBC is having enough trouble with quirky shows. My Name is Earl, The Office and Scrubs are great shows, but the ratings are not Must See TV.

It was moved to the 10 PM time slot to avoid being directly up against Idol, but the lack of a paired show/lead in definitely hurt. This move was made prior to the pilot airing.

They were actually somewhat pleased with their VH1 ratings, given VH1 did absolutely no publicity for LM.

For my buddy, it's on to the next thing.

After the first episode, I thought the quality fell off completely. I watched the second episode but thought it was pretty bad. I stopped watching the third after 20 minutes, it was just that bad. It's a shame, because I thought the first episode showed a lot of promise. I have the rest on my computer. I'm sure I'll finish it off over the summer just to see if it was worthwhile. I'm just saddened Fox picked up the Loop but not Free Ride. Free Ride was at least funny at times and seemed to have a chance to pick up some steam if the characters were tweaked a little.

I really enjoyed the show and was bummed when we watched the last episode yesterday on TiVo...when he gets to the hospital and sees his sisters/friends baby, then Bran wakes up and they have the look and the smile...I'd love to know where the show was going to go had it been given a chance.

Hey digamma, can you ask your friend if there is any chance that these episodes will come out on DVD? I missed the last few episodes, and would rather wait for DVD if possible rather than trying to find them online and then watch them on my computer.

I'll check, but I think the chances are slim to none. Some of the music licenses were only good for initial television distribution (with the idea that they would renegotiate other mediums if the show was a success). I'm fairly positive they've made no effort, and will make no effort to renegotiate now.

I thought about bumping this thread a month or so ago. We went with my buddy to a Teddy Geiger show. Met him after his performance. Really talented for a 17 year old and really down to earth, and very funny. Hopefully, that won't change.
