Agreed, he is a stand out. Good eye and incredible on base percentage. If I remember well he was a solid defensive player too.

With my next pick, I'm taking a guy that I'm a bit surprised is still on the board. A guy that in my opinion was one of the best defensive shortstops in the game (at least from the era that I'm familiar with, which quite honestly is anything post 1980.)

And as good as I thought Olerud's OBP was, I compared it to Bonds' best.. I can't believe he had a .600 OBP and was over .500 for a long stretch. Had over 200 walks one year.

I can't help but think teams were going overboard with their fear of his bat, because that's just preposterous.

At this point, the draft really becomes interesting. Do you take one of the best available players from a team, or do you lock a really good player? In this case I chose to lock a really good player, knowing there are probably better SP out there than Blyleven, although he wasn't too shabby himself.

Nearly did that myself. I actually mulled it over for a day or so, after my prior pick. Figured if they were there I was going one way or the other. Went with Rose because I think I can get by with 2 strong starting pitchers if I can give the bottom rotation guys run support.
