Game 6 - Press Conference
Coach V: I am going to say this one time. If I see another "pile on" penalty from this team, I'm going to lose it. We had this game won, but a stupid 15-yard penalty, followed by no pass rush allowed Arkansas State to come back and win this game. I DO NOT like losing games where we have the lead late in the game. (shakes head)
Josh Cooper: Coach V, you really had great field position throughout the game, yet you could only muster 10 points?
Coach V: Our offense is anemic, even against similar teams. We can't run the ball, so teams key on our receivers. Add two hurt starters on the OL during the game and well, that's all there is to it.
Ray Melink: It seems like the defense holds, but obviously you can't keep them on the field all game. They seemed really fatigued in the 4th quarter.
Coach V: I agree with everything you said right there.. but let's not go overboard, defense isn't much better than the offense.
Thanks.
Moderator: Thank you coach.

Offense: The Owls run a Vertical Passing offense and rely on QB Russell Green. The OL has some weak spots and struggles at times. OT Don Larscheid is their best option and most of the successful plays rely on his protection.
Defense: The Owls also run a 4-2-5 defense and rely on OLB Reggie Zeier. They rely on their linebackers to carry the defense. The groups of LBs should be able to hold up against most opponents but could wear down as the season goes on.
Key matchup
The Trojans defense has held opponents to just 231.8 passing yards per game and ranks No. 39 against the pass nationally.
Banks has caught 25 of 56 passes thrown his way for 342 yards and 4 touchdowns. He's made 1 great catch and has averaged 13.7 yards per catch.

Game 7 - Press Conference
Coach V: Hey, no "pile on" penalties this game. (laughs) Seriously, another hang on tight victory and WR Muhammand had a big game as a starter. Nothing special, but we can get to 500 next week.
Josh Cooper: Coach V, comment on QB Cedric Smith.
Coach V: Cedric has done a deent job replacing the injured Staroba and since Staroba is graduating this year, it's good to see Smith starting to gain experience. He still has a long way to go though and finding him a running game would really help.
Ray Melink: Well, you're only 1 game out of first in the division, you have to be a little happy about that?
Coach V: I'll be happy when we reach 500, that I do know. We'll see what happens, one game at a time.

LOUISIANA-MONROE INDIANS
(continued)
Offense: The Indians run a Run N Gun offense and rely on QB Fredd Watson. The OL has some weak spots and struggles at times. OG Travis Watson is their best option and most of the successful plays rely on his protection.
Defense: The Indians also run a 3-3-5 defense and rely on CB John Alexander. The team looks to the DL to set the tone on defense. This group is up-and-down in its performance, but it should help cover some weakness in the defensive backfield.
Key matchup
The Trojans defense has held opponents to just 237.1 passing yards per game and ranks No. 44 against the pass nationally.
Watson has completed 134 of 226 passes (59.3%) for 1648 yards with 9 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. This adds up to a QB rating of 126.6. He has made 4 exceptional passes and averages one TD every 25.1 attempts.

They have some key injuries, especially on defense.. but at 21 point favorites, somebody knows something. Their QB is good, so it's a chance to see what our defense can do. Last edited by MizzouRah : 12-29-2005 at 04:42 PM. |

well, that didnt go quite like i expected...Our DTs are playing better as the season progresses(2 sacks!), but otherwise ouch....they shut our passing down...we didnt really do all that bad on D if you look at the numbers, i think field position and that fumble inflated that game. All around ouch though...ya

Getting 3 wins out of this team has been a fairly considerable accomplishment I'd say, especially with zilch for a running game.

Hopefully 4 wins is reachable with Florida Int (0-8) coming up in three weeks. I don't see us doing much with Army or #16 Air Force. My running game is like a broken record: "RB gets the ball and see a hole open up, only to have X defender close in a stop the RB for no gain." |

Game 8 - Press Conference
Coach V: This game was my most frustrating as Head Coach. We had many chances to score, but the playcalling was suspect as well as our terrible running game trying to pick up 1 yard on 2 key 4th downs.
Josh Cooper: Coach V, rumors are going around that you and your two coordinators aren't seeing eye to eye, care to comment?
Coach V: I don't believe in discussing concerns with my coaches in a press conference, but it's a known fact that my two OC's and my two brought in coaches don't have the same philosopy's with reguard on how the offense and defense should be ran. Obviously, I'll take a look at that once the season is over.. for now they've done a good job in my opinion.
Ray Melink: An off week should help, but I'm only seeing one more victory for the year, are we in agreement?
Coach V: I have no idea what's going to happen the rest of the way, but I'll take 4 wins. (smiles)

ARMY BLACK KNIGHTS
(continued)
Offense: The Black Knights run a Smash Mouth offense and rely on RB Melvin Davis. The OL is a capable unit. While OT Greg Latta is a nice player, the whole group will need to improve its overall form and technique to be successful.
Defense: The Black Knights also run a 5-2 defense and rely on SS Nick Campbell. The team looks to the DL to set the tone on defense. This group is up-and-down in its performance, but it should help cover some weakness in the defensive backfield.
Key matchup
Hanson has caught 24 of 50 passes thrown his way for 423 yards and 2 touchdowns. He's made 1 great catches and has averaged 17.6 yards per catch.
The Trojans defense has held opponents to just 231.4 passing yards per game and ranks No. 33 against the pass nationally.

They beat a good Syracuse team and I wonder how we'll do against a smash mouth football team? |

Somehow I think the Army playbook looks like this:
1. Run 2. See #1 We'll see tomorrow morning when I get up. |
