Dover Welcome Rival Dartford in FA Cup Qualifying Clash

Dover Express
September 26, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
With five players injured, one suspended and one ineligible, Dover Athletic FC will have a battle on their hands as they welcome Ryman Premier League outfit Dartford to Crabble Athletic Ground for a FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifier.

The Whites are coming off their first non-win in league play after a 1-1 draw at Avenue Stadium on Tuesday evening at Dorchester Town and will have to battle complacency in a match against a lesser club.

Dover manager Matt Bosela says the players know the challenge that lies ahead.

"This could be a very intense match between rival clubs", he opined.

"We are missing one of our top players in Zavon Hines, as well as our starting keeper so there will be a couple players who will get the opportunity to step in and make their mark on the first team."

John Whitehouse will get the start in goal in relief of the suspended Darren Behcet and it has been speculated that striker Shaun Welford will be in the starting eleven for only the second time this season, with the first coming in Dover's 0-3 loss to Hampton & Richmond Town in the Setanta Shield.

Bosela indicated that there may be a few other changes in the starting eleven based on the fact that the club will have played three games in seven days after today.

The Whites are overwhelming favourites against Dartford, who will likely field a 4-4-2 formation. They are led up front by four goal man Nathan Jarman.

Game time at Crabble will be 3:00pm.

OTHER DOVER NOTES -

Bosela was given an official warning by the Football Association for his comments after the Dorchester Town draw, where he criticized the officials for the Behcet red card and a couple of other non-calls. The Dover skipper had no comment when asked about the slap on the wrist. Also, the club's appeal of the one-match ban for Behcet was rejected by the association.

The Dover reserve side battled to a 1-1 draw with Eastbourne Borough's reserves, with Welford notching the goal for the Whites. Transfer listed defender Kevin Halliday, a great disappointment after being signed in the offseason, was named Man of the Match. Veteran midfielder Alan Pouton injured his hamstring in the match and may miss up to a month of action. This is the fourth injury suffered by the brittle but determined Pouton already this year. Recent signing Ryan Beswick made his first appearance for Dover in the reserve contest and showed great competence.

The recent signing of Trinidadian and Tobagan midfielder Aaron Downing has been cancelled after the Football Association rejected Dover's appeal for a work permit.

Dover Fight Back to Draw Dartford in FA Cup Qualifying

Dover Express
September 27, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
Dover Athletic needed a David Ball goal in the 79th minute to draw even with Ryman Premier League outfit Dartford and ensure a FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifying replay next week at Princes Park.

Things were looking dire for the home side after Dartford striker Nathan Jarman burst through the Whites defense and poured a rocket past John Whitehouse.

However, Dover manager Matt Bosela went to an ultra aggressive 2-2-1-2-3 formation (two central defenders, two wingbacks, a central midfielder, two attacking wingers and three forwards) and it led to the Ball equalizer.

Dover would continue to pour on the offense in the final ten minutes but the organized Dartford defense turned them away.

Whites centre halfback Sam Simmonds (shown at left) was named man of the match for a superlative defensive performance.

The Dover manager was in a sympathetic mood after the game.

"I thought we played a pretty solid game but full credit to Dartford for keeping our shots to the outside", he said.

"I'm just glad we came through with a late goal to get a second opportunity to move on in the competition."

Dover were playing without a number of regulars. Goalkeeper Darren Behcet missed the game due to suspension while striker Zavon Hines remains ineligible for the competition. In addition, the Whites have a number of players on the injury list, most significantly Sam Sheridan, who has resumed training after suffering a bruised shin. Behcet will be eligible to play in the replay while Sheridan may be available as a reserve.

The replay takes place in Dartford on Wednesday September 30th. Game time at Princes Park is 7:45pm.

OTHER DOVER NOTES -

The Welling vs. Dover Blue Square South matchup that was originally scheduled for the 30th has been moved to Wednesday October 7th due to the FA Cup replay.

The Dover U18 squad lost a close 2-1 decision against Hayes & Yeading on Saturday afternoon. Central defender Richard Ramsey, an unsigned prospect, scored the only goal for the youth squad.

Romaine Sawyers, an attacking midfielder with West Bromwich, rejected an offer to come on loan to Dover, instead deciding to remain with his current club.

Whites Head to Princes Park for FA Cup Qualifying Replay Against Dartford

Dover Express
September 30, 2009 (Dartford, UK) -
Dover Athletic FC will have another fight on their hands when they head to Dartford for an FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifying replay.

The Whites will welcome back regular goalkeeper Darren Behcet after he missed the first game due to suspension. Jerahl Hughes is also set to receive his first start of the year at left midfield in place of the ineffective James Simmonds.

Dover manager Matt Bosela says the team will have to be at its best to prevail in a hostile environment.

"The Dartford supporters will be out in full force tonight and I expect their club to attack, knowing there is nothing to lose against a team in a higher division", he said.

"We will have to match their intensity if we want to get a result in the contest."

Central midfielder Sam Sheridan is back from a shin injury and will be available as a reserve but the Dover manager will keep him out of the starting eleven for now.

Game time at Princes Park will be 7:45pm.

OTHER DOVER NOTES -

The winner of the replay will go on to face the winner of the replay between Great Wakering Rovers and Boreham Wood.

Whites Edge Dartford in Extra Time Nailbiter

Dover Express
October 1, 2009 (Dartford, UK) -
Dover Athletic FC once again had all they could handle in their FA Cup 2nd Round qualifying replay against Ryman Premier League club Dartford. In the end, the injury Gods that have seemingly conspired against the Whites all season actually worked in their favour.

The game was scoreless after fulltime, necessitating a 30 minute extra frame. However, in the 94th minute, Darts substitute Steve Norman went down with an injured leg and had to be stretchered off the pitch. Dartford had used all of its subs by that point and were forced to play with only ten men.

Dover switched to a three man front to take advantage and minutes later, substitute Frannie Collin poured home a David Ball rebound to give Dover the 1-0 lead. The Darts would move to a four man front in the late going but were unable to penetrate the resolute Dover defense, allowing the Whites to move onto the third round of qualifying in the FA Cup.

Dover manager Matt Bosela was relieved his club won in the end.

"The Darts are a resilient bunch and they gave us all we could handle", he said after the game.

"Their supporters should be very proud of the effort the team put forth and we feel very fortunate to move on."

The goal was the first of the season for the transfer listed Collin. Darren Behcet was in goal for Dover and got the clean sheet while center half Matt Fish was awarded man of the match honours in a superlative defense performance.

The Whites will move on to face another Ryman Premier League outfit in the 3rd Round of qualifying, as they'll host Boreham Wood on Saturday October 10th at Crabble Athletic Ground. Boreham Wood won 2-0 in their 2nd Round replay against Great Wakering.

Dover's next game will be a Blue Square South matchup against Thurrock on Saturday October 3rd. Game time at Crabble Athletic Ground will be 3:00pm.

Ball Nabs Second Consecutive POM Award

Dover Express
October 1, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
Dover Athletic striker David Ball continued his lethal form in September, averaging over a goal a game and was once again rewarded with the Blue Square South Player of the Month award.

Ball did his damage in two games, scoring a brace against Ramsgate and notching a hat trick against Eastborne Borough.

"I want to continue to work on my consistency from game to game", Ball indicated.

"I've only scored in three of our past eight games when you include our cup ties so I will continue to work harder to ensure I'm a factor every match."

The Manager of the Month award went to Andy Gurney of Weston-super-Mare, who continue to nip at the heels of the Whites at the top of the BSS table. Dover skipper Matt Bosela won the award in August.

Dover Host Big Underdog Thurrock in Blue Square South Tilt

Dover Express
October 3, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
The first place Dover Athletic FC welcome relegation candidates Thurrock to Crabble Athletic Ground in a Blue Square South matchup.

Thurrock only have one win in league play thus far but are coming off a convincing 3-0 victory over East Thurrock in their last encounter, which was an F.A. Cup Qualifying tie.

Dover manager Matt Bosela indicates that his club must not become overconfident against a team that is struggling in the standings.

"Every team in this league is capable of beating everyone else", he quietly said.

"They will likely try to play conservatively and I imagine we will find it problematic to break them down. We will have to be patient and wait for our chances."

Central midfielder Sam Sheridan will be back in the starting eleven after missing a number of games with a shin injury. The club will also have striker Zavon Hines back in the lineup after he was ineligible for the two FA Cup ties.

Game time at Crabble will be 3:00pm.

Dover Prevail but Lose Star Striker

Dover Express
October 4, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
Dover Athletic rode a superlative performance from goalkeeper Darren Behcet to prevail 2-0 over Thurrock in Blue Square South league play on a wet Saturday afternoon at Crabble Athletic Ground.

Zavon Hines scored midway through the first half on a long shot and a Liam Norval own goal in the 75th minute doomed the visitors.

Behcet was tremendous in a Man of the Match performance, stopping all six shots directed on target by Thurrock, many at point blank range.

"I was seeing everything really clearly today", Behcet said.

"The guys did a solid job in front of me clearing rebounds. I was a bit busier today than normal but it was a really thrilling match to be a part of. We all just hope Ballsy is alright."

'Ballsy' would be star forward David Ball, who was stretchered off the pitch after a strong challenge from Thurrock defender Kenny Clarke.

"Things don't look good", offered a downcast Matt Bosela.

"David's ankle was severely swollen after the match and it looks like he will be out for quite awhile."

Ball is the team's leading goalscorer, with ten goals in league and cup play this year.

Bosela wouldn't comment when asked if the team will have to scour the transfer market for a replacement.

The Whites will next face Welling in Blue Square South play on Wednesday evening at Park View Road. Game time will be 7:45pm.

OTHER DOVER NOTES -

Dover's U18 squad lost 1-0 to Thurrock at Ship Lane yesterday morning. A Robin Stapleton own goal was the difference. Central defender Martyn Kenyon continued his superlative play, earning Man of the Match honours in a losing effort.

October 6, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
Dover Athletic manager Matt Bosela announced yesterday that the club signed 17 year old central midfielder Nicholas Barrett on a full-year loan from West Ham United.

Barrett, shown at left, was part of the reserve side at West Ham and is looking forward to seeing first team action with the Whites.

"I'm extremely pleased to be coming to a winning club", indicated the young Englishman.

"I hope I can contribute right away and help the club gain promotion into the Blue Square Premier League for next season."

Scouts rave about Barrett's pace and passing ability and figure he'll step in immediately alongside Sam Sheridan to make Dover's midfield one of the best in the league.

Barrett will be eligible to play in tonight's contest against Welling United.

OTHER DOVER NOTES -

Central defender Olly Schulz has resumed full training after missing three weeks with a knee injury. He will be available as a substitute for the Welling match but Bosela indicated he'd like to see Schulz play a reserve match before considering him for the starting eleven.

Dover Head to Welling Without Top Scorer Ball

Dover Express
October 7, 2009 (Welling, UK) -
The Whites head to Park View Road to face 7th placed Welling United in a Blue Square South league matchup.

Dover will be without star striker and leading goal scorer David Ball, who will miss up to eight weeks with a badly sprained ankle.

"We have some players that will have to step up and contribute", manager Matt Bosela opined.

"No one can completely replace David's pace and skill but we have a great group of players in that lockerroom and together, we can overcome this injury."

Dover will have some reinforcements for the contest, as new loan signing Nicholas Barrett will immediately step into the starting eleven at central midfield, while central defender Olly Schulz will suit up as a potential substitute after recovering from a knee injury.

There will be some additional changes to the starting eleven, with right fullback Michael Kay scheduled to play his first game with the Whites and captain Dean Hill will also get back into the starting lineup. John Whitehouse will tend goal for Dover in place of normal starter Darren Behcet.

The Dover manager indicated that he's wanting to spread out the playing time a bit due to the team playing three games in seven days.

Game time at Park View Road is 3:00pm.

Late Equalizer by Richards the Difference in Dover Draw

Dover Express
October 8, 2009 (Welling, UK) -
Welling substitute Jonathan Richards scored on a scramble in the 84th minute to allow his club to draw level with the first place Whites in Blue Square South action at Park View Road yesterday evening.

Dover striker Zavon Hines notched his sixth goal of the season in the 63rd minute and it looked like the one goal margin would stand but the home side was up to the task with the late equalizer.

"It was a game with a lot of flow, something you usually don't see in a low scoring affair", offered Dover manager Matt Bosela.

"There were a combined 32 shots on goal and I felt the goalkeepers on both sides did a tremendous job. In the end, we knew Welling was an excellent side and we'll take our point and move on."

Dover played the game without stalwart forward David Ball, who continues to recover from a severely sprained ankle and will miss at least six weeks. Frannie Collin took his spot in the lineup.

New midfield loan signing Nicholas Barrett also suited up for the first time for Dover and looked comfortable in the middle of the pitch. Right fullback Michael Kay also made his first appearance on the first team and was a difference maker, with 11 interceptions to his credit.

Dover will have to prepare quickly for yet another match in three days, as they take on Ryman Premier League outfit Boreham Wood in F.A. Cup 3rd Round Qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Hines will not be eligible for that game, which takes place at Crabble Athletic Ground at 3:00pm.

Dover Host Ryman League's Boreham Wood in F.A. Cup 3rd Round Qualifying

Dover Express
October 10, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
Dover continue their goals of advancing in the F.A. Cup competition today in a matchup with Ryman Premier League outfit Boreham Wood FC.

BW defeated Great Wakering in the second round and will not be an easy matchup for a relatively undermanned Dover squad.

"Our supporters seem to be a touch overconfident right now but I can assure you that all the lads in the dressing room know what is at stake", commented Whites manager Matt Bosela.

Dover will be without their two top strikers in David Ball, who is injured and Zavon Hines, who is ineligible for this competition.

The Whites will respond by putting Frannie Collin and Shaun Welford in their spots up front. Darren Behcet is expected back in goal for Dover and young Jordan Collins will also take his regular spot at right fullback after Michael Kay got his first game action of the year there on Wednesday night.

Boreham Wood is also limited up front with injuries to both of their starting forwards. Leon Archer will miss the game with a knee injury while attacking central midfielder Mario Noto is listed as doubtful with a bruised head.

Game time at Crabble Athletic Ground is 3:00pm.

Boreham Wood Holds On in Scoreless Draw Against Dover to Set Up Replay Match

Dover Express
October 11, 2009 (Welling, UK) -
Despite controlling play for the majority of the match, the Whites couldn't put a ball past Boreham Wood keeper Peter Kennedy and were held to a scoreless draw in FA Cup 3rd Round Qualifying.

The replay will take place on Wednesday at Meadow Park in Borehamwood.

"The weather certainly played havoc with the players", offered Dover manager Matt Bosela, as heavy rains pelted the pitch throughout the match.

"Passing is even more difficult than normal and maintaining balance on a slippery pitch is of paramount importance. We certainly miss our two top strikers in Ball and Hines but that gives some others the opportunity to step up and be a hero."

To make matters worse for the striker-deprived Whites, Shaun Welford suffered a stubbed toe and was taken out of the match early. Bosela indicated that the team may be forced to use injections to ensure Welford is available for the next match but noted that if the team takes that course of action, Welford would miss significantly more time after the replay.

Defender Sam Simmonds also was stretchered off the pitch early in the second half but doesn't look like he will miss much time, if any at all.

The replay at Meadown Park will take place at 7:45pm on Wednesday.

Dover Edge Boreham Wood in FA Cup Qualifying Thriller

Dover Express
October 15, 2009 (Borehamwood, UK) -
A Danny Barber own goal in the 35th minute proved to be the difference as Dover won an FA Cup 3rd Round Qualifying Replay against Boreham Wood 3-2 on Wednesday at Meadow Park.

The Whites were forced to work with a new formation due to the injuries up front at striker, as both David Ball and Shaun Welford weren't well enough to start while fellow striker Zavon Hines was ineligible. Dover went with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Frannie Collin as the lone striker and 16 year old Robin Stapleton manning the AMC position in his first official game on the first team, making him the youngest player ever to suit up for the Whites in a meaningful match.

The new formation worked right off the opening whistle, as Collin took a feed from left winger James Simmonds and punched a ball into the net in the first minute of action. Minutes later, the Whites struck again, with newcomer Nicholas Barrett (shown above) scoring his first goal with his new club with his back to the net to give the visitors the shocking 2-0 lead.

Boreham Wood would not go quietly, as winger Greg Morgan would score two goals in succession in the 19th and 23rd minute to even things at 2. However, a Simmonds cross in the 35th minute was accidently headed into his own goal by Barber and that was the deciding marker in a thrilling affair in Borehamwood.

"We're positively elated", Barrett enthused to reporters after the match.

"I thought we came out with a lot of energy and made the appropriate adjustments when they knotted the score. It is a wonderful result."

Dover moves into the 4th Round of qualifying and will face the Blue Square North's top club in Gateshead. That match will take place at Crabble Athletic Ground on Saturday October 24th, with a 3:00pm kickoff.

Next on the agenda for the Whites is Blue Square South action, as Dover welcome 3rd placed Havant and Waterlooville to Crabble this Saturday.

Dover Host Havant & Waterlooville in Top of Table Clash

Dover Express
October 17, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
The undefeated Whites return home to face 3rd place Havant and Waterlooville in a Blue Square South matchup of top clubs.

The Hawks have won six matches, lost three and tied one for 19 points and sit seven back of Dover at the moment.

They are led up front by veteran forward Paul Booth, who has four league markers and five goals overall in 2009/10. Central midfielder Gary Holloway will also make his considerable presense known, as he has three goals overall in 09/10.

Patience once again will be key, as H&W will likely move into a defensive formation to thwart the high scoring Whites.

"We expect that they will wait for their opportunities so our players will have to be careful whilst moving forward on the attack", Whites manager Matt Bosela opined.

There will be many changes in the starting eleven for Dover, as the team continues to battle fatigue after yet another FA Cup replay. John Whitehouse will be in goal for Darren Behcet, Michael Kay and Sam Gore will be at fullback in place of Jordan Collins and Dean Hill, Olly Schulz will jump into a center half slot in place of Matt Fish while Jerahl Hughes and Ryan Beswick, with his first start as a White, play wing.

Zavon Hines will be back in the lineup at striker and will lineup alongside Frannie Collin.

Game time at Crabble Athletic Ground is 3:00pm.

OTHER NOTES -

The club announced the signing of striker Stephen Connor (shown at left) on a free. Connor most recently was a member of Everton's youth system and hasn't played football for almost a year. He will be placed on the reserve team until he's fully fit. The pacy player has been called 'selfish' by many and some point out that might be the reason he wasn't picked up after Everton neglected to sign him from their academy.

The club also announced that defender Andrew Pearson has recovered from his injury and is in full training with the reserve squad. He was out of the lineup for four weeks with a pulled hamstring and has been overtaken in the first squad by both Matt Fish and the transfer-listed Olly Schulz.

Dover Extend League Unbeaten Streak

Dover Express
October 18, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
A spectacular performance by Dover's backup goalkeeper John Whitehouse enabled the Whites to extend their unbeaten mark in league play to 11 games as they held off a fiery Havant and Waterlooville squad 1-0 yesterday afternoon.

It was truly a tale of two halves, with the first half being dominated by the home side. Striker Zavon Hines scored his eighth goal in league play on a lovely header off a Jerahl Hughes cross for the lead in the 32nd minute, a lead the Whites would take into the half.

However, the visitors stepped up their game considerably in the second half, getting multiple point blank opportunities that were all deftly turned aside by the astute Whitehouse, who ended up making an incredible nine saves on the game.

He would continue to turn all shots aside in a man of the match performance, one that had his manager shaking his head in relief.

"Johnnie was brilliant", Bosela enthused to reporters after the match.

"Our team was outplayed by a wide margin in the second half and the only reason we were able to get three points was because of our keeper. A truly wonderful performance."

Dover is now seven points clear at the top of the table after second placed Weston-super-Mare tied Chelmsford.

The Whites will head to Bath on Tuesday for a matchup against Team Bath. Game time at Twerton Park will be 7:45pm.

OTHER NEWS -

Dover's U18 squad lost a close 3-2 decision to Havant & Waterlooville's U18 squad yesterday morning at Crabble before the first team match. Robin Stapleton and Gareth Harvey notched goals for the Whites but Stapleton and striker Alex Edwards both went down with injuries in the game and will miss significant time.

Dover Set to Battle Relegation Candidates Team Bath

Dover Express
October 20, 2009 (Bath, UK) -
Still undefeated in league play, Dover head to Twerton Park to face the disappointing Team Bath in Blue Square South action.

The University has only won a single match this year and are languishing in 21st position out of 22 teams.

Richard Stimpson and Josh Llewellyn are the team leaders in goals with four but overall, the club has been quite impotent on offense and are a -9 in goal differential.

"Every team in this league can play football and we will have to guard against complacency in this match", Whites manager Matt Bosela opined.

The club will go back to more of a regular lineup tonight. Center Half Sam Simmonds will be given the night off and Olly Schulz will take his spot in the starting eleven. Other than that, it will be the regular crew for the Whites, who will also have to prepare for their upcoming FA Cup 4th Round Qualifier on the weekend.

Game time at Twerton Park is 7:45pm.

OTHER NOTES -

Dover's reserve squad won a tight 1-0 decision on Sunday against Dorchester Town's Reserve squad. Fullback Kevin Halliday, an offseason acquisition who has yet to be featured on the first team, scored from the penalty spot after a challenge in the box for the only marker of the game. Center Half Andrew Pearson, playing his first game after recovering from a hamstring injury, was named Man of the Match in a solid performance. New signing Stephen Connor also had a fine performance at striker for the reserve side.

Collin the Hero as Dover Continue Win Streak

Dover Express
October 21, 2009 (Bath, UK) -
A Frannie Collin goal four minutes after a Gareth Taylor equalizer sent the Whites to a 2-1 victory over Team Bath on Tuesday night at Twerton Park.

Zavon Hines opened the scoring in the 8th minute from the penalty spot after being taken down in the box.

Dover continue to hold a big lead in the Blue Square South, with a seven point advantage over Weston-super-Mare on the table.

Collin has been on a great run of form recently and is just happy to contribute after being on the club's transfer list earlier in the season.

"It's great to be needed and I've been able to elevate my play somewhat since the beginning of the season", Collin stated after the match.

"It was a bit difficult in the early going to get opportunities to play but with the injury to David (Ball), I've been featured more prominently in the first team and I'm starting to produce."

Collin has been getting quite a bit of attention recently in the press and in the stands, as many teams seem interested in making a pitch for the hot striker. Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough was in Bath specifically to watch Collin last night and commented that "I always have a lot of time for Frannie."

The Whites will now look ahead to hosting the Blue Square North leader Gateshead in FA Cup 4th Round Qualifying, which takes place on Saturday afternoon at Crabble Athletic Ground.

Game time will be 3:00pm.

OTHER NEWS -

Dover's U18 squad lost another 3-2 decision on Tuesday night to Preston North End's U18 squad in the Under 18s Cup competition in extra time. Phil Roberts and Peter Williams, an unsigned prospect, scored for Dover.

Dover and Gateshead Set to Clash in FA Cup 4th Round Qualifier

Dover Express
October 24, 2009 (Dover, UK) -
It will be a battle of first placed clubs today at Crabble Athletic Ground as the Whites welcome the Blue Square North leaders Gateshead for an FA Cup 4th Round Qualifier.

The Tynesiders have a league record of nine wins, one draw and only two losses and are 6 points clear at the top of the table over three other clubs.

However, they come into this match absolutely decimated by injury and suspension, with five starters likely to miss the matchup.

"We've battled injuries and cup ineligibilities as well but Gateshead certainly seem to be stung for tomorrow's match, especially in the middle of their defense", Whites manager Matt Bosela opined.

Both of their starters at center half, James Curtis and Alex Francis, are suspended for the cup tie, while GK Jack Norton, fullback Jack Winter, center half Andy Burgess and striker Graeme Armstrong all look like they will miss the game due to injury. The club still has plenty of pop up front with five goal men Michael Rae and Jordan Stepien along with four goal man Nathan Wharton in the midfield.

Zavon Hines remains ineligible for this competition and with David Ball still weeks away from returning, there is a chance the Whites will move to a 4-2-3-1 formation again for this matchup, with Frannie Collin playing as the lone striker. Backup Shaun Welford is still suffering from a stubbed toe so there is a chance new signing Stephen Connor will make his first official appearance with the first team.

Game time at Crabble Athletic Ground is 3:00pm.

OTHER NOTES -

Dover's reserve squad drew with Maidenhead on Wednesday evening 1-1, with Connor scoring his first goal in a Dover uniform in a man of the match performance. Midfielder Alan Pouton, who has battled injury all season, is finally back to full training and came on as a substitute in the Maidenhead matchup.

Gateshead Knock off Dover in FA Cup Qualifying Shocker

Dover Express
October 25, 2009 (Bath, UK) -
The Blue Square North leaders Gateshead came into Crabble Athletic Ground and held off a furious Whites' rally to win 2-1 and move onto the next round in the F.A. Cup and thereby end Dover's chance at cup glory.

Gateshead got on the board in the 13th minute on a controversial penalty given to Dover defender Matt Fish, who was deemed to have tripped winger David Southern. He made no mistake from the penalty area to give the visitors the lead.

Dover started pushing hard about halfway through the first half but it was Gateshead who would score once again, this time during injury play at the end of the half. Again, it was Southern finding some space in between Dean Hill and Sam Simmonds and he deposited a weak shot underneath Darren Behcet for the death blow.

We can only imagine what was said in the dressing room at half time but Dover came out with guns ablazing in the second half and were rewarded almost immediately, as new signing Stephen Connor (shown at left) deposited his first official goal with the club to bring the home side within one.

The Whites continued to press the entire second half, sending as many as seven men forward but despite holding a huge advantage in shots and possession, were unable to come up with the tying marker.

"We're all very disappointed in the room", manager Matt Bosela quietly said after the match.

"I thought we played a bit too loose at times early and it cost us. Our efforts in the second half were outstanding, however, and you must give credit to Gateshead for holding on. We really gave it our best and full marks to them for getting the result on our pitch."

The club can now concentrate on holding its position in the Blue Square South for the next little while. The club is eligible for one more cup competition and that's the FA Challenge Trophy.

The club will next face Farnborough in Blue Square South league play on Saturday October 31st. Game time will be 3:00pm.

OTHER NEWS -

Dover's U18 squad battled Bognor Regis Town U18 to a scoreless draw on Saturday morning. Fullback Jay Hall, an unsigned prospect with Dover, was named man of the match.

Dover Look to Get Back on Winning Track Against Farnborough

Dover Express
October 31, 2009 (Farnborough, UK) -
The first placed Whites head to Cherrywood Road to face Farnborough FC in Blue Square South action.

Farnborough are playing above expectations but still sit midtable in 13th position with four wins, four draws and five defeats. They have the second leading scorer in the league, however, in ten goal man Marvin Robinson. Winger Damian Batt is a deft playmaker and center half loanee Riccardo Biggi, a Luton Town prospect, has been resolute in the middle of the pitch for Farnborough.

Dover will look to bounce back from their only home loss this year, a 2-1 defeat in FA Cup Qualifying to Gateshead last weekend.

New signing Stephen Connor will start in his first league game with Dover alongside leading scorer Zavon Hines. There is a good chance that John Whitehouse will get the start in goal for the Whites.

Game time is 3:00pm.

OTHER NOTES -

Dover's reserve squad won a 2-1 decision last Sunday against Newport County. Wingers Ryan Beswick and Jerahl Hughes both scored for the reserve Whites, with Beswick earning man of the match honours.

Dover and Farnborough Battle to Drab Draw

Dover Express
November 1, 2009 (Farnborough, UK) -
Despite holding a possession and shot advantage, the first placed Whites couldn't put a ball past Farnborough goalkeeper Matthew Brown and could only take a single point in a scoreless draw at Cherrywood Road last night.

Right fullback Jordan Collins was named man of the match for the visiting Whites, continuing his fine play in 2009.

Dover was obviously still feeling the effects of getting knocked out of the FA Cup competition a week previous. Manager Bosela tried to inject some youth into the lineup but it didn't result in many sustained offensive chances.

"It wasn't our finest hour and a half but I thought we played our system well and I'm fine with the result", indicated the manager.

Dover can actually count themselves fortunate, as an apparent goal by Farnborough in the first half was called back due to offsides.

The club has one more league game coming up on Wednesday against a tough Merthyr squad then get almost three weeks off from Blue Square South league play.

Game time on Wednesday is 7:45pm right here at Crabble Athletic Ground.
