I completely forgot about that. I forget what they called it. I also remember that on that board when they were getting ready for this one, the mods announced "a surprise" and everyone went "A NEW FOF GAME!?!?!" and they then said "uuhhh....no, new board....sorry."

I remember my first post on the Sideline and the first reply was from ColtsFan who welcomed me and hoped that I would fit in. Never did.

I joined in the Fall of 2001. Now I look at the results of this poll and I just sit back and say "Wow, guess all those policies are just bringing in the newbies in DROVES"

Almost 2/3 of the membership that answered the poll is over 11 years here. Its kind of disturbing.

FWIW, I generally feel like both you & Icy are virtually seamless with your English here.

What I suspect has happened with both of you is that you've picked up common usage rather than technically perfect English, which prevents you from standing out.

(although in the quote above the phrase "little use of English" would probably most frequently be said as "little use for English" )

I read as much FOF content as I could on the board in the early days but skimmed completely over all the board politic stuff. In retrospect, I'm kind of fascinated by that stuff and the evolution of these boards over the last 15 years. But then I try to take a peek back, maybe at the web.archive, or just now looking at STIX's last post in the forum from 2001 and I just can't follow it. I have no idea what he's talking about. I mean, I get the modern disputes involving photos and general asshattery, but for some reason I just can't stay with whatever the hell was going on back then.

It's interesting to look back at the evolution of threads from being all-FOF to what it is now.

I wonder how it'll all end. I guess there'll be a snowball effect eventually where there's fewer and fewer posts, and then you reach that critical point where the board so longer seems "active", and that causes people to stop coming, and then the death spiral. But how long until that happens? Are we talking 10 years? It's probably more likely that operation sports eventually goes away, and then there's maybe some half-ass attempt to establish a new site, but only a few people make the jump, and then things just never get going and instead die out. It's kind of an interesting social-internet dynamic, how message boards "die".

It was a mini review in a magazine (Video Games and Computer Entertainment?) that first alerted me to the original FOF and I started lurking The Sideline soon after that. I don't think I started posting until FOF2k1 was in the pipeline.

You have the oldest thread on the board, at least according to the board statistics. It was a goodbye post and you said you were never coming here again.

I remember the green sideline days. I left for a number of years and have been back for a couple now I guess.

Hah. This gramatical error was a result of text restructuring, rather than misuse of the words of and for.

Which reminds me of something harldy related. I think I never commented on your previous signature, the one that included the name of Abraham Kuyper. I suspect that is the same Abraham Kuijper (original spelling) of whom a statue was revealed in Maassluis a couple of years ago. I actually attended the revelation and ride by on a daily base, purely because it's located on my route to work.

Completely off topic, clearly, but for whatever reason it felt appropriate to mention.

I've been around since the Sideline days, though I was computerless for a while and missed the migration to GameSpy. It took me a while to find where the board had gone, but found it again in 2000 (though my handle back then was "JeeberDMack").

I think I first found the Sideline by doing an AltaVista search about FOF when I first discovered FOF2. MIJB and I were both newbs at the same time over there...

My posting has cut dramatically over the past few years thanks to marriage and kid(s). I'm sure some of you *cough*Bucc*cough* are happy about that...

Since Sideline. Since HornedFrogPurple left, my participation has lessened over time. We were like a wrestling tag team.

Seeing Shorty and Noop grow up on here has been something I really remember.

i was on the old board, but dont remember specifics about what went down. i found this from being upset at madden's stats. must of been late 90s if i had to guess?

this is still the only message board i check regularly, and certainly the only one i consider myself to be a part of.

it really is remarkable to think how long we have all been here. i guess we'll mostly all be here in another 12-15 years, too. crazy.

2001 it seems. I guess it'd be strange to have many newbies considering the last time an FOFC game was released.

I remember doing a search for football sims back then.
FOF was one that came up, read the bio about the game,
looked interesting, so I downloaded and bought a license for the full game.
Became hooked ever since.
I came across FOFC, by way of doing searches about strategy and whatnot.

EDIT:
I lurked for about 2 years, before making my first post in 2003 though.

My join date here is April 15, 2001 and I migrated here from the old site. I remember visiting the site on my 21st birthday and I'll be 30 next month. FOFC has been such a huge part of my online life--and for so long--that I can't imagine what it would be like if the site ceased to exist.

Yep, that's how I found FOF. I was looking for an alternative to FPS, and saw the raves about FOF. But I was making $20,000, so spending money on a game from a guy selling them out of his garage seemed crazy. The day I finally decided I should take the plunge was the day Jim posted FOF1 had sold out.
