I'm still amazed at Oakland and their 4 consecutive titles.

From: The County Government

Your proposal for new stadium construction was submitted to the voters of your county for a decision.

The issue succeeded, and construction is scheduled for completion in 2019!

Here's the final vote tally:

In Favor: 1,108,664 - 51.0%
Rejected: 1,064,355 - 48.9%
Football will once again be played outdoors on grass in Atlanta, just as it should be.

2014 ROSTER SHAPING

BEGINNING CAP SITUATION
SALARY CAP: $159.4M
ROOM UNDER CAP: $38.6M
MAX FOR NEW PLAYER: $30.95M

INJURY UPDATES FROM LAST SEASON
LDE Freddie Cox took a big ratings hit all the way down to 25/34.

SS Winston Giangrave also dropped quite a lot, down to 44/44.
LCB Marcus Woodson and FB Darnell Keys return to full ratings strength.

FRANCHISE PLAYER
I use the franchise tag on RDE Ray Antel.

KEY FREE AGENTS/RESTRICTED PLAYERS FROM MY TEAM
K Dexter Everett is a two-time all-pro with 88/94 ratings, but he wants an average of nearly $6.5M per year. I doubt I'll be able to afford that much of a cap hit.

TE Kenny Malfara is out the door, as Gilbert Woodyard is pretty much just as good, and cheaper.
RG Nick Weber had a pretty solid year, and wants a decent-sized contract for the next 5 seasons. He may or may not be back.
LDE Cox isn't looking good after his injury, and backup Doug Cochrane is a FA He'd come cheap if I decide to stick with him.
LDT Dixon Mahoney keeps on making plays, and is now a mentor. His salary request is fairly modest (around $7M per year). He'll probably get an offer from me.
SLB Kendrick O' Neal will be allowed to go elsewhere, as 3rd-year man Chester Adderley looks ready to step in and start now.
RCB Devin Withers is an RFA. He gets re-signed after his very good year last year.

FREE AGENCY
POSITIONS I'D LIKE TO FILL/UPGRADE: RG, K, LDE, LDT

CUTS
SS Winston Giangrave--We save $2M in cap room by by cutting him, not to mention the big salary savings.

SIGNINGS

LDT Dixon Mahoney--6.0--3yrs/$21M--He was the best DT available, and he's been with us from day 1.
K Leroy Matsko--8.0--4ys/$10.5M--He's been a solid kicker for 5 seasons, with a 77.8 FG Pct.
LDE Ken Logan--4.4--2yrs/$6M--Mediocre guy who'll start at LDE unless we draft someone better.
RG Nick Weber--5.4--5yrs/$45M--Hasn't missed a single game in four years in the league, and has a career 38.4 KRBPct.

WHERE OUR KEY GUYS WENT
TE Kenny Malfara signed with San Fran for 3yrs/$26.89M.
SLB Kendrick O'Neal is now a Green Bay Packer, at the cost of $19.68M over 3 years.
.

AMATEUR DRAFT

PICKS
I have the following picks: 1(25), 2(3), 2(25), 3(25), 4(25), 5(25), 7(25)

NEEDS
My #1 need is to improve at LDE. Behind that, finding the next QB would be very nice. Then, I'm starting to get old (10yr vets) at a few positions, and could therefore use young starters-to-be at TE, LG and LDT

NEW LEAGUE RECORDS

Not surprisingly with the changes to 5.1a, a new ypc record is set. KC's 2nd-year RB Dexter Foust has 5.56 ypc (275 for 1529, 14 TD's).

NEW FALCON RECORDS

RB Kenyon Daniels sets Falcon records for attempts (307), yards (1,242), and rushing Td's (8).

MLB Josh Pierre makes 134 tackles to set a team record.

FB Darnell Keys passes Aaron Zaiser's career Falcon reception mark of 419. Keys now has 427.

COMMENTS
This was a VERY frustrating season. Key defensive injuries early in the season really hurt us in what appeared to be our best chance to win it all so far. We will almost definitely lose some key pieces of the puzzle to free agency after this year, as Antel, Henry, Mayes, Hernandez, Tamm and Pierre are all FA-eligible, among others.

KEY CONTRACT EXTENSIONS
Because of our current cap situation, I can only offer one right now: RB Kenyon Daniels gets extended through 2017.

ARIZONA (14-4) (-7) vs. BALTIMORE (12-7)

The Ravens pull of the upset in the Front Office Bowl, riding the legs of the league's #2 rusher, Doug Hampton. He carries 26 times for 138 yards and a TD, with a long gain of only 13 yards, as the Ravens grind out a 22-17 win for their 2nd Front Office Bowl championship.

COMMENT: I have a feeling that I'm about to find out first-hand the impact of struggling financially in the new version. I've got a stadium build under way, and I'm going to have to shell out some significant bonus money to keep some of my key FA's around next year.

What were the specs on the Stadium that was approved? What was the cost, and how much did you contribute?

2015 ROSTER SHAPING

BEGINNING CAP SITUATION
SALARY CAP: $166.8M
ROOM UNDER CAP: $44.01M
MAX FOR NEW PLAYER: $37.43M

INJURY UPDATES FROM LAST SEASON
C Hernandez and LCB Carlton are out 11 and 10 weeks respectively. None of the fully-recovered players dropped any points.
FRANCHISE PLAYER
I use the franchise tag on RDE Ray Antel again.

KEY FREE AGENTS/RESTRICTED PLAYERS FROM MY TEAM
QB Hardy Tamm--I've got some young and improving QB's on the roster. It might be time to give one of them a shot.

FL Brenden Schafer--I have three other capable receivers. He's out the door in all likelihood.

C Perry Hernandez--He wants a pretty hefty salary, and he's Out for 10 weeks. Nope.

LG Harry Mayes--2-time All-Pro who has been with since 2007, and he's a mentor. I'd like to keep him if I can.

RT Maurice Lane--Former 3rd-round pick Harold Cook looks like he can step in and start.

RDE Ray Antel--ACK!!! I *typed* that I was going to franchise him, but I forgot to do it---and I've already saved the game after free agency started. Oh well. Gotta try to sign him on the open market, I guess.

MLB Josh Pierre--interesting decision. He was the DPOY last year, but his backup, O.J. Barnhill, looks to have the potential to be nearly as good, if not better. This decision will come down to finances.

MLB O.J. Barnhill--backup to Pierre. He's an RFA, and would therefore cost me less money to re-sign than Pierre.

WLB Wes Henry--Missed nearly all of last season due to injury, lost no ratings. His backup, Conrad Willis, is definitely a step down, but is decent, and a lot cheaper. Another tough call.

FREE AGENCY
POSITIONS TO FILL OR UPGRADE: C, LG, RDE, MLB, WLB (maybe), QB (maybe)

CUTS

QB Albert McDaniel: 2(4) pick from 2013 hasn't shown much at all, and has a conflict with RB leader Blake Van Lanen.

SIGNINGS

C Carlos McCormick--7.0--3yrs/$22.5M--Originally drafted by us, I let him become a FA after 2012. Spent two years in Oakland, and now he's back.

RDE Jared Stephens--4.9--2yrs/$5.13M--He's no Ray Antel, but he'll be a lot less expensive. Got 8.5 sacks for the Raiders last year.

QB Hardy Tamm--5.2--3yrs/$18M--He's a mentor, and could help develop our youngsters. His days as our starter might be over, though.

LG Harry Mayes--7.6--3yrs/$30M--Helps anchor my offensive line. Good to keep him in the fold.

WHERE OUR KEY GUYS WENT

RDE Ray Antel signed with New York.

MLB Josh Pierre is now a Green Bay Packer.

WLB Wes Henry joins Antel with the Giants.

FL Brenden Schafter signs with the Saints.

AMATEUR DRAFT

PICKS
I have the 21st pick in all seven rounds.

NEEDS
No glaring needs at starting positions, but we're definitely starting to age. With a mentor under contract for the next three seasons, I'd love a franchise QB, and might be willing to trade up to get one. With the departure of Antel as a free agent, I could stand another studly DE. Beyond that, I could use a young starter-to-be at the following positions: FB, LG, LDT, FS

I trade QB Harold Rodriguez to SF for a 5th-round pick next year. He had two conflicts with leaders, and is in the last year of his contract.

2015 PRESEASON/FINAL CUTS/OUTLOOK

PRESEASON INJURIES OF NOTE
RG Nick Weber, in limited playing time in the first preseason game, gets a torn quad and is going to miss the entire season.

FINAL CUTS

RB Andrew Cobb

RDE Lance Davis

LDE Lamont Fisk

LDT Mike Singleton

NEW STARTERS THIS YEAR

MLB O.J. Barnhill--His ratings say he's ready, but he's replacing a DPOY at the position.

RDE Jared Stephens/RDE Heath Urbanus--They'll basically split time.

RG Shaun McCormick--Injury to Nick Weber thrusts him into the spotlight. Rookie Gabe Lemons may get some time here as well.

C Carlos McCormick--Returns to Atlanta and re-claims his old job.

I'm going to start the season with Hardy Tamm at QB, but this could well be a year of transition. 3rd-year man Malcolm Rasberry has improved each season, and if Tamm falters or we find ourselves out of the playoff picture, Rasberry will step in.

REGULAR SEASON OUTLOOK

POWER RATING: 74. 2nd-best in NFC, behind Seattle (77).
ROSTER: 96. Baltimore is best.

DIVISION RIVALS

(LAST YEAR'S RECORD IN PARENTHESIS)

CAROLINA (11-4-1)--They look pretty solid on both sides of the ball, but not spectacular either. Due mainly to injuries, they'll have three new starters on the o-line in the first part of the season. If they can navigate the early season decently, they should have a shot at another Division Title.

NEW ORLEANS (5-11)--The Aints still look like the worst team in the NFC South.. Their defense is young and improving, though. However, they only have one offensive starter rated 60, or higher--a 60/60 RT. After him, the next-best offensive starter is their 51/53 TE. They're going to have a hard time scoring.

TAMPA BAY (7-9)--As long as Jason Raymond is in Tampa (and his current contract is for 6 more years), the Bucs will be mediocre at worst. He's got a decent-looking rookie wide receiver this year in 1(1) pick Dan Carlisle. Their o-line is adequate. Defensively, they have two star players at LCB and LDT, but then are mediocre or worse elsewhere. Could challenge for a wild-card spot.

DIVISION PREDICTION

Atlanta 10-6

Carolina 10-6 (WC)

Tampa Bay 8-8

New Orleans 4-12

NEW FALCON RECORDS

RCB Devin Withers eclipses WInston Giangrave's record for passes defensed this year. Withers now has 62.

Blake Van Lanen and Kenyon Daniels are very close in career Falcon rushing yards: 4,734 to 4,730 respectively.
COMMENTS
Very nice year, plus I was able to get Rasberry two starts (and wins) against weak teams at home. We are pretty frustrated by Carolina, though. WE haven't beaten the Panthers since 2011.

WILD CARD ROUND

Atlanta (11-5) (-4) at Seattle (11-5)

We go on the road and jump out to a 20-0 halftime lead behind 2 Tamm TD passes and 2 Matsko FG's, and hang on for the 20-10 win as backup RB Casey Madison rushes for 135 yards due to a Kenyon Daniels injury. Tamm is 21 for 31 for 216 yards with 2 TD's and 0 INT's on the day.

Green Bay (11-5) at Carolina (11-5) (-5)

The Panthers advance 22-10 as J.J. Robinson throws for 199 yards.

New England (8-8) at Buffalo (9-7) (-2)

Courtney Reese throws for 289, and Toby Carlisle rushes for 103, as the Bills move on 16-13.

New Jersey (8-8) (-1) at Indianapolis (9-7)
The Colts' defense smothers the Jets, and Oliver Bush carries 31 times for 150 yards and a 22-7 victory.

Conference Semifinal Round

Atlanta (12-5) at Detroit (13-3) (-2)

Our season ends as Devin Branch torches the secondary for four TD passes and 318 yards. The offense didn't play all that badly, but we fall 35-17.

Buffalo (10-7) at Pittsburgh (10-6) (-3)

J.T. Hunsinger carries 32 times for 153 yards as the Steelers win 20-3.

Carolina (12-5) at New York (11-5) (-3)

J.J. Robinson brings his "A" game today: 29 for 36 for 319 yards with 4 TD's and 1 INT. Wesley Strickland catches *15* passes for 191 yards and 3 TD's, and the Panthers roll 28-14.

Indianapolis (10-7) at San Diego (12-4) (-7)

The Colt defense again holds a playoff opponent under 10 points, this time in a pretty big 17-3 upset. Oliver Bush racks up 100 more yards on the day.

Conference Finals

CAROLINA (13-5) AT DETROIT (14-3) (-4)

Devin Branch is looking unstoppable right now. He was 32 for 32 for 254 yards with 2 Td's and 0 INT's in a 34-0 Lion shellacking of the Panthers. This guy is a 6th-year man. He was UNDRAFTED in 2010, picked up by Oakland but didn't play a signle snap that year. In 2011, the Raiders cut him and the Panthers signed him after a series of QB injuries. He got 8 starts that year, performing pretty well. Their starter returned for 2012, but by 2013, he had a full-time job. He was the most dominant passer in the league this year: 343 for 502 (68.3%), 4,380 yards, 27 TD's, 11 INT's, 104.1 passer rating.

INDIANAPOLIS (11-7) AT PITTSBURGH (11-6) (-4)

Hunsinger carries for 115 yards on 30 carries, and the Steelers advance to the big game for the first time ever with a 23-17 win.

KEY CONTRACT EXTENSIONS
SE Gus Lang stepped it up a notch this year with 55 catches for 904 yards, and gets rewarded with a deal that keeps him under contract through 2019.

RT Harold Cook is now locked up through 2018.

DETROIT (15-3) (-6) VS. PITTSBURGH (12-6)

The Lions pull away in the third quarter for a 24-7 win over the Steelers. Branch throws for 242 yards and 2 TD's, but does not win the game MVP award, because RB Jesse Borders carries 30 times for 176 yards and a TD. The Lions win their third title in the last nine years, and 2nd in the last three.

Well, I really can't complain all that much about this season. We made the playoffs, got our future QB a couple of starts, won a playoff game on the road, and were eliminated by the eventual champs--champs who outscored their playoff opponents by a 93-24 count in three playoff games. There may be financial and cap issues looming next year, though.

2015 PRELIMINARIES

All four staff members' contracts run out this year, and not surprisingly, three of the four (DC/OC/Sct) want more money than my owner is allowing me to offer. Nice! Of course, there's a pretty big shift happening in staff salaries across the league due to having applied 5.1a during an existing career. I'm pretty sure it is that chaos that allows me to re-sign Jackie Walton as the O-Coordinator. I get several "The Scout rejects this offer" messages in Week 2, as my max amount is less than what some of them have already been offered at that point. This is *really* good to see. Here's who I end up with:

A quick look at the league's 10 highest-rated QB's right now...

Corey Henson, ARI, (81/81, Year 5): Drafted 1(3) by Arizona. OROY in 2012. 1st-Team All-Pro in 2014. Current contract with Arizona runs through 2019.

Austin Weaver, NYG, (81/81,5):
Drafted 1(4) by the Giants in 2012. 2nd-Team All-Pro in 2014. Current contract with NY through 2017.

Grady Cusano, OAK, (79/79,16):
Oakland's 2(17) pick in dispersal draft in '04. 3-time Front Office Bowl MVP, 3-time League MVP, 6-time All-League QB, 40,000+ passing yards. Current contract with Oakland ends in 2017.

Austin Crawford, MIN, (78/78,13):
Steelers' 2(23) pick in dispersal draft. 3-time all-pro. 1 League MVP. Went to Minnesota as a FA in 2010. Signed through 2018.

Jason Raymond, TB, (77/77,9):
Drafted 1(19) by TB in 2008. Became starter in 2010. 2-time All-League. Signed through 2020 currently.

Larry Scibona, SEA, (71/71,11):
Drafted 1(3) by Seattle in 2006. Immediate starter. No hardware. Signed through 2018.

Trevor Starks,NYJ, (66/66,9):
NJ made him their 1(28) pick in '08, and he was the #1 guy by '09. Career 87.0 QB Rating. Sgined through 2017.

Lorenzo Putnam, TEN, (65/65,10):
Drafted 1(14) in '07 by Cincy. Became starter in '08, but performed poorly in 2 1/2 years as starter. Injured in 2010, and at that point had more INT's than TD's. Allowed to leave as FA. Tennessee signed him, and he's been hurt on and off. Best full season was 2013 with Tennessee: 14 starts, 3,054 yards, 19 TD's, 7 INT's, 92.6 rating. Contract with Titans runs out this year.

J.J. Robinson, CAR, (59/59,14):
(I really hate this guy.) 4(16) pick by SF in dispersal draft. 10 years as starter for the Niners. Signed with Carolina in '14, and has led them to back-to-back division titles over me. Under contract with Panthers through 2018.

Devin Branch, DET, (58/58,7):
Undrafted free agent in 2010. Signed by Oakland, but never played a snap in regular season for them. Released in 2011, picked up by Detroit and got 8 starts due to injuries. 2 starts in 2012, then full-time starter in 2013. MVP/OPOY/1st-Team QB in 2015. Signed with Detroit through 2018.

2016 ROSTER SHAPING

BEGINNING CAP SITUATION
SALARY CAP: $174.2M
ROOM UNDER CAP: ($5.09M)
MAX FOR NEW PLAYER: ($12.44M)

INJURY UPDATES FROM LAST SEASON
TE Woodyard will miss all of this season on the IR, but LG Mayes (Out--17) will be placed on the inactive list in hopes that he can helps us out late in the season and in the playoffs. All others fully recovered, and no significant point losses.
FRANCHISE PLAYER
None.

KEY FREE AGENTS/RESTRICTED PLAYERS FROM MY TEAM

WLB Conrad Willis is the only starter who isn't under contract, and he's an RFA. I should be able to cap out/renegotiate to get the cap room to re-sign him.

FREE AGENCY
POSITIONS TO FILL OR UPGRADE: Don't really have the finances to do much this year.

CUTS OF NOTE

FS Kris Colon--The 12-year vet just isn't the player he used to be in the secondary. Time to move on.

RDT Bernie Sweat--He didn't get to play much last year, is angry, and has a low bonus cap hit. Buh-bye.

SS Greg Singleton--Never got into a game last year.

TE Quinn Chapman--Former 4th-round pick in the final year of his contract who hasn't shown us much of anything.

SIGNINGS

No new signees.

WHERE OUR KEY GUYS WENT

No one of any importance went elsewhere..

AMATEUR DRAFT

PICKS
I have the 27th pick in rounds 1-7, and the 4th pick in round 5.

NEEDS
Starters this year are probably set, but I could stand to grab young starters-to-be at FB, C and LDT.

4 years in a row using your 2nd round pick on a quarterback, that's quite a run

Yeah, and an undrafted one (Rasberry) is STILL the most likely candidate to take over when Tamm's time is over.

What Ryche said- and you look to have quite a dilemma as to who to keep- going to trade Dawson/Fred for picks ? That's quite a collection there..

2016 PRESEASON/FINAL CUTS/OUTLOOK

PRESEASON INJURIES OF NOTE
SE Sammie Farrell got hurt in the penultimate preseason game, with Repetitive Concussion Syndrome. He's listed as Out for 90 weeks. His career is in jeopardy..

FINAL CUTS

QB Pat Webb

QB Will Dawson

RB Blake Van Lanen

RB Mickey Orlando

FB Jim Hughes

TE Daryl Prior

RT Chester Sinco

NEW STARTERS THIS YEAR

LG Gabe Lemons--Second-year man will start until Harry Mayes (12 wks) recovers.

LDE Deron Mirkovich--Part-time as a rookie last year. Full-time now.

WLB Austin Farrell--1st-round pick gets the start.

FS Kirk Peterson--He had taken over for Kris Colon by midseason last year, but deserves a mention on this list.

REGULAR SEASON OUTLOOK

POWER RATING: 68. 2nd-best in NFC, behind New York (79).
ROSTER: 100. The Giants are at 91.

DIVISION RIVALS

(LAST YEAR'S RECORD IN PARENTHESIS)

CAROLINA (11-5)--They signed a 77/77 Center, giving them a very strong offensive line across the board. J.J. Robinson's ratings dropped to 52/52, though, and the defense looks vulnerable. They look to be primed to get knocked off their pedestal.

NEW ORLEANS (7-9)--Their young defense continues to improve, but the offense starts no one rated 60 or better.

TAMPA BAY (10-6))--They're going to have no running game to speak of, but Jason Raymond is one of the best QB's in the business, and he has two good young targets, a TE and FL. On defense, they may be weak agaisnt the pass, as they'll start THREE rookies in the secondary.

DIVISION PREDICTION

Atlanta 11-5

Carolina 10-6 (WC)

Tampa Bay 8-8

New Orleans 6-10

Well, don't look now, but Detroit is looking poised to potentially make it three out of the last four. At this point, we look like the main thing standing between them and another title.

Grrrrr.....We seem to need just a little boost to get over the hump, but with this version I can't rely on being able to find a star FA year-in and year-out to fill a key position. Oh well, I'm having fun!

2017 ROSTER SHAPING

BEGINNING CAP SITUATION
SALARY CAP: $181.3M
ROOM UNDER CAP: $3.72M
MAX FOR NEW PLAYER: ($3.42M)

INJURY UPDATES FROM LAST SEASON
LT Pete Wayne dropped all the way down to 32/32, but none of the other injured players suffer a significant ratings drop. SE Sammie Farrell (Repetitive Concussion Syndrome) will miss all of this year.
FRANCHISE PLAYER
LCB Spencer Carlton gets the tag this year.

KEY FREE AGENTS/RESTRICTED PLAYERS FROM MY TEAM

FB Darnell Keys--Last year's third-round pick was a FB. Keys will probably be allowed to go elsewhere without a fight.

RG Shaun McCormick--Started all 16 games and in an RFA. Likely to be re-signed.

LCB Harvey Hallock and LCB Marcus Woodson--Even if neither is re-signed, I'd be let with three good CB's in Bauer, Carlton and Withers. Hallock is likely to be re-signed as a backup/nickel/dime guy, as he'll be much cheaper than Woodson, who will command top dollar.

FREE AGENCY
POSITIONS TO FILL OR UPGRADE: I don't have a lot of cap room to do much this year, but with Farrell missing this year, a third solid WR would be very nice to have. Another position of concern is LT, with Pete Wayne having taken a big ratings hit.

CUTS OF NOTE

LT Pete Wayne--His days as a starter are over.

RG Nick Weber--Costing $7M in cap room, and projected as a backup this year.

LDE Cornelius Laney--Another backup who can be replaced with someone cheaper.

RB Mark Womble--5th-round draft choice 2 years ago who hasn't amounted to much.

SIGNINGS

I resigned LCB Harvey Hallock and RG Shaun McCormick.

WHERE OUR KEY GUYS WENT

LCB Marcus Woodson signed a big, fat 6-year, $110.75M contract with Arizona.

FB Darnell Keys signed a 2-year deal with Indianapolis.

Also, QB Lorenzo Putnam, the only 60+ QB to become a FA this year, re-signed with Tennessee, so none of the marquee QB's change teams this year.

AMATEUR DRAFT

PICKS
I have the 30th pick in rounds 1-7.

NEEDS
In addition to the desires listed above to improve at LT and WR3, I could stand youngsters at LDT, L/RCB, SS and FS.

I couldn't put together the right deal to trade up, and there was no one I wanted to pick at 1(30), so I traded down to 2(17) with GB, and picked up a 3rd-round pick in 2019 in the process. I also make a trade up in the 3rd round. Here's my draft in its entirety:

2(30) FL Tony Davison 24 47 9 24 4.41 14 7.14 Should be WR3 this year. Very good speed. 24 42 26 37
3(14) RCB Bennie Cobb 22 47 22 25 4.42 22 7.02 This little guy (5'6, 175) is fast, strong, agile. Nice! 23 51 28 58

6(7) FL Mickey Devine 18 38 76 29 4.49 17 7.23 I like his numbers, so I traded back in to get him. 17 38 33 59

Because of drafting Cobb, I trade CB Tim Bauer away. Arizona gives up a third-rounder next year in exchange for 2 late-round picks and Bauer.

DRAFT GRADE: B-

With all of the draft pick trading, I was able to free up some cap room in late free agency--enough to sign a mediocre left tackle. LT Kendall Lindsay (49/51) signs a modest 2-year deal. He's a 6th-year man who has played for New England and Denver. With Roy Adderley not looking that impressive coming out of camp, it looks like Lindsay will start at LT for us.

Heh. 2nd-round pick FL Tony Davison isn't likely to make the team, while 6th-round pick FL Mickey Devine gets the big boost and will be our 3rd wide receiver. Also of note after camp is that it looks like Hardy Tamm's mentoring has cost him a job. Randall Barker is now 50/50, and Malcolm Rasberry is 47/58.

A detailed look at the roster. I'll start doing this every five or six years or so, rather than the space-hogging "roster report" pages I had been doing. No way I'll go into this detail every season, though.

just read the whole dynasty. It is really interesting.

Surprised that you've been fairly successful without a stud QB or stud RB ever.

I think one of your most interesting stories is Spencer Carlton.
Drafted low, signed him L/T before he became a stud, and nows hes an 85/85.

Well, we HAD a stud QB in Schwartz, but he got hurt, and now Rasberry may be following in his footsteps...

2017 PRESEASON/FINAL CUTS/OUTLOOK

PRESEASON INJURIES OF NOTE
Am I just snakebitten at QB, or what??? In the third preseason game, QB Malcolm Rasberry suffers a torn quad, and will miss the entire season. 4th-year man Randall Barker will begin the year as the starter. No other injuries of note.

FINAL CUTS

RB Bubba Hill

FL Tony Davison

REGULAR SEASON OUTLOOK

POWER RATING: 71. 2nd-best in NFC, behind New York (78).
ROSTER: 100. Seattle also is at 100, and the Giants are 95.

DIVISION RIVALS

(LAST YEAR'S RECORD IN PARENTHESIS)

CAROLINA (7-8-1)--Age is catching up with J.J. Robinson, and they don't have a reliable-looking backup. However, the o-line is looking pretty strong. Their defense is very much suspect, though.

NEW ORLEANS (3-13)--They should be pretty decent on both sides of the ball this year, although nothing special.

TAMPA BAY (7-9)--Jason Raymond and the Bucs look like our biggest challengers for the division title. They should feature a fairly balanced offensive. The defense is strong up front, but pretty dreadful at LB and in the secondary. They're going to give up some points.

DIVISION PREDICTION

Atlanta 12-4

Tampa Bay 8-8

Carolina 7-9

New Orleans 7-9

NEW LEAGUE RECORDS Jason Raymond, our "friend" from Tampa Bay, breaks his own record for passing yards (4,561), set in 2011. He has 4,879 this season.

Of course, *someone* had to catch a bunch of those passes. WR Dan Carlisle, a third-year man for the Bucs, sets a record for receiving yards with 1,764.

Detroit's Devin Branch establishes a new mark for passing yards in a game; he threw for 481 against Tampa Bay.

NEW FALCON RECORDS Randall Barker's 92.8 QB Rating establishes a team standard, breaking Donny Schwartz's 91.5 mark in '08. His 27 TD passes are also a team record.
Gilbert Boyer catches 6 TD passes to give him 29 for his career, which surpasses Darnell Keys's previous team mark of 25.
Devin Withers picks off 6 more passes, giving him 21 for his career, passing Kris Colon's team record.

COMMENTS
Well, it looks like we've found our QB! Randall Barker has a stellar season, throwing for over 3,800 yards with 27 TD's and only 8 INT's. Seattle, who we spanked 31-6, also went 13-3, and Detroit won their division once again with a 10-6 mark. Those two teams appear to be our primary obstacles to getting to the Front Office Bowl. Defending Champion Kansas City looks poised to make a run at another title. The injury to Gus Lang was a real bummer. He was on his way to an outstanding season. He had 47 catches, 696 yards, and 7 Td's in 7 1/2 games played.

2017 POSTSEASON

WILD CARD ROUND

DENVER (9-7) at NEW JERSEY (10-6) (-2)

Trevor Starks throws for 231 yards on 18 of 24 passing to lead the Jets to a 27-14 win.

NEW ORLEANS (9-7) at DETROIT (10-6) (-2)

With Devin Branch out with a high ankle sprain, the vulnerable Lions are upset by the Aints 14-7.

PITTSBURGH (9-7) at BALTIMORE (10-6) (-6)

The Steelers lose early again, this time Sherman Elliot's 22 for 28 passing for 248 yards for the Ravens does 'em in. Doug Hampton had 110 yards rushing and 80 yards receiving for the Ravens.

SAINT LOUIS (10-6) (-2) at WASHINGTON (8-8)

Darren England's 171 passing yards are enough to lead the Rams to a 20-17 road win..

CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL ROUND

BALTIMORE (11-6) at KANSAS CITY (11-5) (-6)

Rondell Lofton throws for 303 yards to lead the Chiefs to a 38-34 win.

NEW JERSEY (11-6) at JACKSONVILLE (11-5) (-4)

The Jets dominate the Jaguars on the road. J.T. Hunsinger carries 42 times for 209 yards, and Trevor Starks is 18 for 25 for 229 yards with 4 TD's, and the final is 48-17.

NEW ORLEANS (10-7) at ATLANTA (13-3) (-7)

Randall Barker continues to perform solidly. He was 20 for 27 for 223 yards with a TD and 0 INT's. Wes Proctor, who is now starting at split end, caught 9 passes for 140 yards in the 20-10 victory.

SAINT LOUIS (11-6) at SEATTLE (13-3) (-8)

Moe Altenburger rushes for 124 yards, and catches 9 passes for 93 more, while Larry Scibona is 18 for 28 for 209 yards, as the Seahawks win 31-21 to set up the big showdown/rematch next week in Atlanta.

CONFERENCE FINALS

NEW JERSEY (12-6) at KANSAS CITY (12-5) (-7)

The Jets win on the road for the 2nd week in a row to advance to the Front Office Bowl. Starks was 18 for 28 for 170 yards, and Hunsinger rushed for 75 yards. Rondell Lofton threw for a whole bunch of yards between the 20's (369 total), but only 1 TD, and the Jets win 24-20.

SEATTLE (14-3) at ATLANTA (14-3) (-3)

This one is a ton closer than the regular season battle, but the final outcome is the same. Barker throws for 198 yards and 2 TD's, and the defense comes up with 5 sacks and an interception en route to a 26-21 win.

KEY CONTRACT EXTENSIONS

C Carlos McCormick gets a 2-year extension after his 33 for 67 KRB performance this year.

FRONT OFFICE BOWL
ATLANTA (15-3) (-6) vs. NEW JERSEY (13-6)

Woohoo! Leroy Matsko nails a 38-yard FG with 1:04 to play to give us a 30-28 win for our first title ever! Wes Proctor is game MVP with 9 catches for 141 yards and 2 TD's. Barker is 18 for 31 for 209 yards with 2 TD's and 2 INT's on the day, and Casey Madison rushes for 148 yards and a TD. J.T. Hunsinger is held to a mere 11 yards rushing on the day.

I extended Randall Barker's contract during the season as it became more and more obvious that he was going to be The Man for us. If Rasberry makes a full recovery, I'll probably end up trading him and relying on Fred Keith to be our backup.

2018 PRELIMINARIES

RETIREMENTS

DT Dixon Mahoney hangs 'em up after 13 years in the league.Mahoney is the last of the original Falcons on the squad. He was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2005, rated only 19/37 at the time, but he quickly earned a starting spot with a jump to 22/47 in his first training camp. He lead the teams in tackles as a rookie, and has never relinquished the team lead in tackles throughout his career. He suffered major injuries in 2012 and 2014 that limited him to a total of 4 games played in those two years, but bounced back to play 44 games in his final three seasons. He finishes his career with 653 tackles, 243 assists, 41.5 sacks, 24 blocks, 129 QB hurries, and a career 10.9 TkPct. He retires as the team career leader in tackles, sacks, and games started (168). Only his team sack record looks to be challenged any time in the next several seasons. Mahoney was defensive rookie of the year in 2005, and was a first-team All Pro in 2009.

This was a few seasons ago, any follow up? Besides dickering over a few coaches, what other impacts have you seen - generally speaking?

Well, I haven't gone after any top-tier free agents yet, but I messed around with it in a year after I lost money, and I was not able to offer as much bonus money as one guy wanted. Also, the later years of long-term contracts to star-caliber players can be problematic if you're not doing well financially. Also, if you push the envelope too hard and end up losing a ton, the ability to sign a number of the best FA's will be lost.

2018 ROSTER SHAPING

BEGINNING CAP SITUATION
SALARY CAP: $188.4
ROOM UNDER CAP: $30.79M
MAX FOR NEW PLAYER: $23.37M

INJURY UPDATES FROM LAST SEASON
RDT Roy Novack dropped from 79/80 to 47/48.

TE Emmitt Wickham dropped from 65/65 to 43/43.

SE Gus Lang is Out (21). He won't go on the IR, as he could be useful come playoff time.

SE Sammie Farrell, who missed all of 2016 and 2017 with repetitive concussive syndrome, is Out (1), and hasn't dropped any points yet.

SS Nicky Register suffers no scouted loss.

LCB Chrplewicz also suffers no loss.

FRANCHISE PLAYER
LCB Spencer Carlton gets the tag again this year.

KEY FREE AGENTS/RESTRICTED PLAYERS FROM MY TEAM

QB Hardy Tamm--I'd love to keep him around as a backup and mentor if I can afford him, but I doubt I can.

SE Wes Proctor--RFA--Former 7th-rounder really stepped it up late last season. If Farrell drops, Proctor might start this year.

LDE Deron Mirkovich--RFA--22 sacks over the past two seasons. He's looking for a big contract. It will be tough, but I really want to keep him.

RDT Roy Novack--Despite his big ratings drop, he looks like he can still be a decent player, and he'll come fairly cheaply. I'll pursue him.

MLB O.J. Barnhill--I'd like to keep him, but it is gonna cost me to do so.

LCB Colin Chryplewicz--With four other solid or better CB's on the roster, he's fairly expendable, even though I could keep him around pretty cheaply. We'll see.

FREE AGENCY
POSITIONS TO FILL OR UPGRADE: I need to take care of business at LDE, LDT, RDT, and MLB first and foremost, and SE may be a need as well.

CUTS OF NOTE

C Rufus Schwartz--I can get another backup for less than what he would have cost me.

FB Xavier Weigle--Same.

LT Roy Adderley--His ratings continue to drop. He's gone.

I make a trade, sending Malcolm Rasberry and our 1(32) pick this year over to Houston for ILB Clifton Shaw, their first round pick next year, and their 2nd round pick in 2020. Shaw is a third-year man who has 174 tackles in the two previous seasons. This move makes it unnecessary for me to have to re-sign Barnhill, and therefore frees up a good bit of cap room to sign the other FA's that I need/want.

SIGNINGS

QB Hardy Tamm re-signs for two more years as a mentor/backup.

RDT Roy Novack signs a deal that will keep him here for 3 more years.

I also sign a new player, LDT Preston Rabe (4.8, 5yrs/$35.25M)--He was 2nd-Team All Pro last year for Indianapolis with 57 tackles and 7 sacks. His contract does not have a large bonus, so he's not necessarily a long-term solution. I won't hesitate to cut or trade him if something better comes along in a year or two, but he's the starter for now.

LCB Colin Chryplewicz signs pretty cheaply, and with the extra cap room, why not?

SE Wes Proctor signs a modest 3-year deal.

WHERE OUR KEY GUYS WENT

ILB O.J. Barnhill signs a 3-year, $52.64M contract with Detroit.

AMATEUR DRAFT

PICKS
I have the 32nd pick in rounds 2-5, and the 3(6) pick.

NEEDS
I could use youngsters at RB, TE and C in particular.

DRAFT GRADE: B-

We sign a few backups and 1st-year guys in late free agency. One signing is worth mentioning, as TE Kenny Malfara comes back to Atlanta as a mentor and backup TE. He still looks like he could be a pretty decent player. He caught 76 passes and was a first-team All Pro in 2016 for Baltimore.

The following rookies had gains/losses worth noting from draft time to post-camp.

FA QB Luke Ulufale 11/34 --> 14/43

2(32) RB Stanley James 27/37 -->13/16

4(32) C Jake Gray 19/60 --> 20/52

5(32) SLB Justin Harmon 16/43 --> 18/49

2018 PRESEASON/FINAL CUTS/OUTLOOK

PRESEASON INJURIES OF NOTE

SLB Justin Harmon has to have ACL surgery, and is listed as Out for 49 weeks. HE wasn't going to play much this year anyway, but here's hoping that he fully recovers.

FINAL CUTS

QB Randal Womack

RB Stanley James

C Mark Flowers

LDT Ethan Horner

LG Lee Harrison

REGULAR SEASON OUTLOOK

POWER RATING: 69. Best in NFC.
ROSTER: 100. Oakland, KC, NJ, and Cincy are all tied for 2nd at 83.

ROSTER STRENGTHS

QB: 56/63

RB: 29/68

FB: 57/34

TE: 44/62 (Malfara will start.)

WR: 50/100

C: 69/80

G: 81/93

T: 65/59

P: 45/0

K: 63/0

DE: 61/83

DT: 55/68

ILB: 88/0

OLB: 68/72

CB: 100/100

S: 64/64

DIVISION RIVALS

(LAST YEAR'S RECORD IN PARENTHESIS)

CAROLINA 5-11)--The Panthers have moved on. QB J.J. Robinson, fading in his 16th year, was released. Their new QB is Will Dawson, a former 2nd-round pick by us who we cut in 2016. he doesn't look that impressive still. He's got a good offensive line and good receivers, though, so I wouldn't be surprise to see him put up pretty solid numbers. Their defense, however, is still very suspect.

NEW ORLEANS (9-7)--The Saints look like they'll continue to improve, and challenge once again for a playoff spot. They've signed QB Bucky Hartman through 2020, and have good ol' Crime Dog Rosser as their backup.

TAMPA BAY (7-9)--Jason Raymond has very little supporting case on offense. The Bucs are VERY young offensively: Raymond's the only guy with >4 years experience, and 5 rookies will start.

DIVISION PREDICTION

Atlanta 12-4

New Orleans 9-7

Tampa Bay 6-10

Carolina 5-11
