Looks like I'm going to be on the northern edge of this storm. Might get over a foot between now and Wednesday but that really isn't too bad.

All in all, I can't complain about this winter too much. Better than the past three have been.

yeah I read yesterday that people are being advised to clear their roofs and cars in NYC because of the coming mid-week storm. There are already so many cars buried under snow, there were guys walking around yesterday with shovels shouting, "Anyone need help getting their car out?"

Just made me think of monty python and bring out your dead.

Yeah we got 16" here with the Wed-Thurs storm and all of that is still around. I imagine getting more snow on top of that, plus the coming ice, could do a lot of damage.

You couldn't pay me enough to shovel out those cars. That snow is rock solid and about 6 feet high.

That is an entire storm prediction. You are closer to Boston than me, so your numbers will be less, but for me they say Tuesday I'll get 8 inches, Wednesday another foot possibly. Basically two storms going back to back causing it to snow from Tuesday morning through till Thursday at some point.

I am guessing that 4 inch total you are reading is just the first half of the storm (the lighter half)

Ugh. I remember wanting it to snow some so I could put my car through it's paces. Now we are what, 3 or 4 storms inside of a few weeks. Too much.

Just upgraded to a Blizzard Warning here in KC. Over a foot of snow + 40 MPH winds = play time with my kids and PS3 time at night. I'm not too upset about that.

There are predictions that Detroit may get it's first big snow fall of the year. Since moving back in 2006, we've really only had one major snowfall that I can remember.

The newspapers are already getting excited for Tuesday night's anticipated storms.

Detroit News: "Mich. braces for storm forecast to be among worst ever."

Detroit Free Press: "Massive snowstorm could dump 15 inches on region."

Looks like most of KY is going to be right in the middle and not in line for much other than rain. Tornadoes below us, ice and snow above us. It's supposed to be mid-50s tomorrow, which is going to feel like 80.

Here's our latest forecast. The sleet has already begun, tho, as of about an hour ago.

AT THIS TIME...NORTH AND NORTHWEST CENTRAL INDIANA...INCLUDING
THE CITIES OF KOKOMO AND LAFAYETTE LOOK TO REMAIN COLD ENOUGH THAT
A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE PRECIPITATION MAY FALL IN THE FORM OF
SNOW. HOWEVER SNOWFALL MAY BE HEAVY AND SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS
OF 12 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BY WEDNESDAY EVENING.

FARTHER SOUTH...INCLUDING THE CITIES OF TERRE HAUTE...
INDIANAPOLIS...BLOOMINGTON...NEW CASTLE AND MUNCIE...WARM AIR IS
EXPECTED TO BE PRESENT AND PRECIPITATION MAY FALL AS SLEET OR
FREEZING RAIN. SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE...WITH
ICE ACCUMULATION OF ONE INCH OR MORE. FURTHERMORE...STRONG WINDS
GUSTING UP TO 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED FROM LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS COMBINATION WILL RESULT IN
WIDESPREAD DOWNED TREES AND POWER LINES.

A LARGE AREA OF CENTRAL INDIANA MAY RECEIVE LARGE ICE
ACCUMULATIONS AND STRONG WINDS BY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL RESULT
IN WIDESPREAD TREES DOWN AND WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES. LONG DURATION
POWER OUTAGES WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR MANY PEOPLE IN CENTRAL INDIANA.

It started around 6:00 and we're up to a good 1/4" of ice at least. There have been times where it's sounded like pretty heavy rain only it's clattering against the window instead of rain falling. The fun is just getting started:

"I-70 WESTBOUND: CRASH INVOLVING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. BETWEEN EXIT 91: POST RD AND EXIT 96: MT. COMFORT RD (1 MILE WEST OF CUMBERLAND). THERE IS AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. ALL LANES ARE BLOCKED. FOR THE NEXT HOUR. LAST UPDATED TODAY AT 7:38PM EST BY INDOT"

Wade, I don't think anyone there fully appreciates how good the Virginia weather is. Short of somewhere like San Diego or Hawaii where it's always warm, you have the best weather of anywhere in the country.

There's a legitimate 4 seasons, which is incredibly rare. Spring and fall are lengthy and extremely pleasant. My wife summed it up perfectly: "I never understood why people liked fall until I moved here." Everywhere else, it's like this short interlude between a really hot summer and winter crap. There, you had this gradual cooling (and warming in the Spring) that lasted for a couple of months and you got to see the trees change colors or flowers bloom, depending on the season. It really was gorgeous.

The combination of summers and winters are mild, by the rest of the country's standards. It never really gets too hot or too cold but I think this needs a little further explanation. Yes, upstate New York has milder summers. However, they also get feet of snow in the winter. Similarly, Houston has mild winters but at the expense of 7 months of summer. In Virginia, the summers were fairly mild as were the winters, last year's crazy snows excepted- that was a rarity, I sense.

You want to see wild: pick a day in the Midwest when it goes from 50 in the morning to 80 and tornadic by evening to 25 and snowing the next day. That variance in Richmond was muted and much less common.

Seriously, if I could pick weather of anywhere I've been in the country and the obvious places like, again, California or Hawaii were thrown out, Virginia would be right there on my list. Everyone thinks they have crazy weather but you guys have some of the most gorgeous weather of anywhere I've been

It was 66 degrees when I got into my car this morning. After a 60-minute, 14-mile commute to work (driving in the same direction as the approaching front), it was 35 degrees. Texas weather changes on a whim but still...

No precipitation here until Friday...I'm not looking forward to dealing with spastic Houston drivers on ice.

We appear to be getting 'lucky' here in KC. It's a blizzard, but only around 8 inches.

My parents live at Lake of the Ozarks. They're at the center of the storm. 12 inches on the ground with another 8 or so yet to come.

On Saturday it was in the mid-70s, I drank on a covered patio in a short-sleeve shirt. Then I went to the driving range where I was feeling hot because I didn't wear shorts.

Fast-forward to last night and we have thunder-sleet around midnight. It turned to snow pretty quickly and it's not quite finished yet. We've had a Tulsa record (not daily, but all time) of 13.4" of snow. And I can't tell where the street begins and the curbs end. I certainly didn't drive anywhere as pretty much everything is closed.

Crazy turnaround.

Round two has started up here in the last hour or two. We had about 1/3" of ice this morning and it let up. But now it's supposed to start again in earnest to the tune of at least 1" of more ice overnight.
