Do you have Duke? I moved just out of their range for electric, I now have Owen Electric. I hated Duke Energy.

Power was knocked out in Galloway from Friday until this morning. It was a rough few days, but thankful that everyone in my family is ok and that no one had major property damage. The hardest part was having well water and having no water for a few days.. finally went to a hotel yesterday so I could shower before work today. Now, I have the joys of future in-laws staying with me for a few days (or more) until their power comes back.

No idea when we will get power back on.

Agreed. I heard the storm and thought it was a tornado. Loudest, scariest storm I've ever been through including a few hurricanes. The lightning was the most intense I've ever seen in my life. It felt like pure daylight out there for a few hours...

That was one of the most frightening experiences that I can remember. Hearing that extremely loud and very ominous sound, not knowing what was about to happen without having a basement and then the crash of the tree as it snapped and fell. By the time the thunderstorm actually started it felt like a relief. Though as you said, it seemed like daytime with how often it was flashing and how extremely bright each flash seemed.

Still no power. Though i have now been called twice by the electric company to tell me that power has been restored. They're just effing with me now.

On another note. Glad i didn't get that pool a couple weeks ago. It would have been smashed.

Found out that i am screwed for the cost of getting the trees taken care of. Insurance will only cover it if it hit a structure.

Yes. Our power went out for an unexplained reason. It randomly went out two weeks ago and I wonder if the same thing happened again and we just got put on the back of the line. Hopefully, by evening today.

Dayton Power and Light is who we have. They all suck as far as I can tell but Duke seemed to have Cincy up and running pretty quickly.

Sure, why not resurrect this thread?

What's worse than being caught in a tornado? How about being trapped in a fire? Why not just combine them and have a "fire whirl" aka flame tornado.

Winter storms to be named by Weather Channel - U.S. News

I'm not sure this'll work, it doesn't really roll off the tounge. "Hurricane Katrina", ya I feel that. "Winter Storm Magnus".....Hmm. "Nemo the blizzard" sounds like a mid-level gangster. It will be twitter-friendly though.

All winter storms should be named after Norse gods and kings.

Hagbard is coming up the East coast to destroy the cities of New York and Boston.

They have to make up for the dozens of major hurricanes we were supposed to get from the doomsayers.

Wow- so awful. I hadn't read the naming list. It's like you let nerds and a class of eight year olds negotiate to name them no editorial control: Q? Rocky? Khan? Nemo? Draco? Orko? Gandalf?

Waiting for this storm is giving me flashbacks to June. Especially hearing the howling outside.

Anyone have any major issues from this thing yet?

Nah. I've heard 12-24. 60 is nuts, and probably only possible if the nor'easter stalls over the area for like...a full day.

60" of snow is crazy. That would be like 24straight hours of snow turned up to 11

Most of the european weather models now say a pretty solid 30 inches for Boston. I'm just on the line myself where I am more in the 24-30 inch range.

This is likely going to be the biggest blizzard that I have ever experienced since moving up north in the 1990s

Sounds like fun. I'm already planning on working from home on Friday...but I'm getting a lil bummed that I guess I won't be able to go out and get my usual pizza on Friday night.

We were supposed to have a rare date night Friday night, but cancelling that and instead having my mom come and stay with us for the weekend so she won't be stuck in the South Shore buried. At her age, she can't shovel small amounts of snow, much less 30 inches.

I actually just came to this conclusion myself after my last post.

Don't even need to order it underbaked really - I usually reheat it for two nights, so I'm used to eating it reheated...might as well do that for 3 nights.

Seems to be looking more likely that this storm will pack some serious punch to NYC as well. Not the 3 ft or whatever for Boston, but a good foot plus. I'm supposed to be driving down to Virginia tomorrow to visit a friend, and it's looking like we'll cancel as I'm worried about being unable to get back into the city on Sunday.

The funny thing is, we've been looking forward to this for a while as we were best friends growing up, our women are friends now, he's got a cute little kid, and we don't see each other too much anymore, and the last time we had all planned to hang out for an extended period was at another friend's wedding...and that got short by Hurricane Sandy! Guess it's just not meant to be.

Naming of winter storms is stupid. Although it does allow Northeasters to say "Hey! We Found Nemo!"

(looks at the predictions of 30" plus in his area)

Or more accurately, Nemo found us *gulp*

up to 30 inches of snow and it is still snowing! Front door can not be opened, only way out of the house right now is to jump out of a window. After it stops snowing in a few hours, we'll start trying to figure out how to get the garage door cleared enough to get the snow blower out and see if it can do anything with this stuff.

Between 24 and 30 inches here according to reports (I'm right on the line apparently - my parents are a town over and got 23).

I'm in an apartment, so it's really no big thing to me. Should call my folks and see how they're doing. Never lost power (although it flickered a little, only 1,000 people in my town apparently lost power), and my folks didn't either.

My sister and her BF live right by Fenway Park - they went out last night and took photos of each other pelting the park with snowballs in retaliation for the crappy season...thought that was pretty amusing - got to find a way to make that picture get out there to the public.

Mom says they measured themselves and they got 29 inches - might make sense since they're on top of a hill and the house and such would be a windbreak...
