August 31st, 2011- Seattle Seahawks Final Cuts

As previously mentioned we had 7 competitions for final spots on the 53 man roster, so we have 7 cuts to make.

Fullback: Michael Robinson vs Darryl Powell. Robinson won the job for a couple of reasons, our scout thinks he is better plus he had a pretty decent outing in all four games, leading Powell in Key Run Block, and Recieving out of the back field.
CUT: Darryl Powell

Center: Ben Hamilton vs Scott Mruczkowski vs Chris Spencer. Hamilton and Mruczkowski had the best exhibition numbers for key run blocks while Spencer was the only one to give up a sack. Mruczkowski is an excellent long snapper as well.
CUT: Chris Spencer

Wide Reciever: Ben Obomanu vs Deion Branch vs Michael Jenkins. This competition was close, Obomanu had 5 catches for 66 yards (2 YAC Yds), Branch 6 catches for 100 yards (35 YAC Yds) Jenkins 10 catches for 134 yards (43 YAC Yds) and a TD. My scout like Jenkins while Obomanu and Branch are ranked closely. Branch had the betters numbers though
CUT: Ben Obomanu

Guard: Mike Gibson vs Anthony Herrera. This decision was pretty simple, Herrera had 5 key run blocks in 4 games compared to 1 for Gibson, plus my scout likes Herrera better.
CUT Mike Gibson

Middle Linebacker: Jamar Williams vs Clint Gresham. This one was closer then I thought it would be. My scout thinks highly of Jamar Williams and he provides more experience to back up Tatupu. Gresham had a good exhibition season though, but we need to be solid on defense and Gresham does not have a terrific upside long term to take the risk.
CUT: Clint Gresham

Cornerback: Roy Lewis vs Kennard Cox vs Randall Gay. Lewis had an interception and 19 tackles in 3 games, Cox had 14 tackles and 3 passes defensed while Gay had 10 tackles but 5 passes defensed. I went with Lewis and Gay.
CUT: Kennard Cox

Safety: Jordan Babineaux vs Nate Ness. This was a difficult decision. As both had nearly identical exhibition numbers, but with my 4th safety only having 1 season under his belt (Kam Chancellor) I decided to go with experience over youth.
CUT: Nate Ness

Some interesting releases in the NFL:

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler, resigned by Miami
Chicago Bears MLB Brian Urlacher, resigned by Carolina
Jacksonville Jaquars QB David Garrard, resigned by Buffalo

Not entire sure offhand, but seems like you've got quite the smurfs collection at most of the skill positions. Are there many backups who may threaten to overtake the listed starters?

Yes I noticed that during the draft especially. A quick review based on one of the FOF posts regarding weights and heights. I noticed exactly what you are saying.

Offensively:

I am definitely small at RB and WR

Back ups:
RB Marshawn Lynch 5-11 215 Average for the position
WR Mike Williams 6-5 235 Above Average for the position
WR Micheal Jenkins 6-4 215 Above Average for the position

My QB and TE are about average at the starting positions while my Offensive Line is Above Average in Size including Stacey Andrews who is 6-7 342.

Defensively:

The Defensive Line for the most part is Average in Size, in the Line backers only Tatupu is somewhat undersized at 6-0 242, my DBs are slightly below average in size though, but not terrible. But I do have a 6-3 230 Kam Chancellor about a year away from being a potential starter.

St Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks (-2)

Critical turn-overs in each end of the field cost the Seahawks today in a 23-10 loss to the Rams in the season opener. A Jon Ryan punt that was blocked by Rams George Selvie and recovered at the Seattle 10 led to to a Sam Bradford TD pass to WR Danny Amendola 5 minutes into the 3rd while a Chris Redman interception at the St Louis 12 cost the Hawks some points was the difference in the game.

Other than the turnovers, Seattle had control of the play for the most part owning the time of possession, total yards and total offensive plays stats but it was a couple of errors that eventually cost them the game.

Seattle Seahawks at Cincinnati Bengals (-5)

Chris Redman has his 2nd pass attempt of the day get picked off that allows Cincinnati to get the first points, a 45 yard FG by Nathan Cocozzo. And the Seahawks offense could never really gain any traction and score. Both kickers miss FG's in the 1st quarter and it ends 3-0 in favour of the Bengals. A critcal roughing the passer penalty kills a great defensive job of pinning the the Bengals at thier own 10 early in the 2nd quarter, instead the Bengals pin the Seahawks to thier own 3 yard line mid way in the 2nd quarter. The Bengals get great field position in the Seahawks side of the field and sets up a TD pass to WR Mo Lester from Carson Palmer and a 10-0 lead. The Hawks end the Half with a good drive that allows Mike Nugent get a FG on the last play before the break and cut the deficiet to 10-3.

Niether team amounts much offense through most of the 3rd quarter, but Mathan Cocozzo is set up for a 57 yard FG that is good and the Bengals extend the lead to 13-3 with over 3 minutes left in the quarter and thats how the quarter ends. The Bengals march into the Seahawks end mid-way through the 4th, but a good defensive stand at the Hawks 2 forces a Cocozzo 19 yard FG and a 16-3 Bengals lead. But that is how it ends as the Bengals had pressured Chris Redman all game and had 5 sacks

Scoring Summary:

1Q 08:18 CIN Nathan Cocozzo 45 yard FG

Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks (-1)

After a uneventful 1st quarter, the Seahawks get the first break and turnover in the game when Lions Maurice Morris fumbled during a punt return on Tony Manns tackle and Hawks Anthony Herrera recovered it on the DET 23 early in the 2nd quarter. A few plays later, QB Chris Redman hits John Carlson for a 11 yard TD pass and Seattle leads 7-0. Matthew Stafford then answered right back with a 65 yard drive capped off with a 25 yard TD pass to WR Calvin Johnson. The Hawks looked to take the lead when Chris Redman connected with Golden Tate for a 44 TD pass, but Seattle was called for Illegal Motion. The Hawks did overcome the penalty and keep the drive alive and it finished with a 1 yard TD pass to Leon Washington and a 14-7 Seattle lead with under 2 minutes left in the half. It looked like the half would end with Seattle getting the ball back with just 33 seconds left, but a 39 yard run by Leon Washington put the Seahawks on the Lions 19 with 14 seconds left. After taking one shot at the end zone that fell incomplete, the Seahawks settled for a Mike Nugent 36 yard FG to make it 17-7.

Matthew Stafford marches the Lions the distance on the first possession of the 2nd half which ends with a Jahvid Best 4 yard TD run. The Lions went 80 yards and just under 6 minutes off the clock to close the gap to 17-14. Chris Redman then took Seattle to the Lions 27, but Mike Nugent misses the 44 yard FG attempt and the Seahawks come up empty. The Lions take the ball to the Seattle 21 and Harvey Roset ties the game at 17-17 with his 38 yard FG with just under 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. With the momentum clearly changing into the Lions favour, Chris Redman needed to make something happen and was looking downfield for TE John Carlson, but was picked off by Lions S Jim Leonhard and the Lions take over at the Seattle 40 early in the 4th quarter. RB Kevin Smith makes the Seahawks pay with a 2 yard TD run making the score 24-17 in favour of the Lions. The Seahawks do claw back with a TD of their own on the next possession, a 74 yard drive capped off by a 15 yard TD pass from Redman to WR Deon Butler to make it 24-24 with just over 5 minutes left. Both offenses sputter the rest of the way taking us to overtime.

Seattle wins the coin toss and elects to recieve, but goes 3 and out and has to punt the ball to the Lions. They start at their own 28. The Lions do manage a couple of 1st downs, but are forced to punt and back up the Seahawks to thier own 4 yard line. Chris Redman does get 1 first down but Jon Ryan is forced to punt and the Lions will start at thier own 38. The Lions get a key play when Matthew Stafford connects with TE Brandon Pettigrew for a 33 yard pass to the Seattle 18. A few plays later, its Seattle's turn to get a big play as Leroy Hill blocks Harvey Rosets 27 yard FG try. Redman and the Seahawks start marching the ball downfield with 3 minutes left, but its a 27 yard pass to WR Deon Butler that puts the Hawks in 1st and 10 at the Lions 18. Two plays later, Redman hits WR Michael Jenkins in the end zone for the TD pass and victory.

Seattle Seahawks (-3) at Washington Red Skins

Defenses were the story of the 1st quarter, as both offenses could only combine for 6 First Downs and a 108 yards. The Red Skins did start a drive late in the 1st quarter that faltered at the SEA 24, but Graham Gano was good from 41 yards out on his FG and a 3-0 lead. After the Seattle offense could not convert a first down, the Washington offense moved the ball well again including a 48 yard pass play to WR Malcolm Kelly, but the Seahawk defense came up big on a 3rd and Goal from the SEA 1 stuffing a run attempt and forcing a 19 yard Gano FG putting the Red Skins up 6-0. The Seahawks gave the ball right back to the Red Skins when Chris Redman throws an interception to CB DeAngelo Hall. On the very next Seattle possession, Chris Redman fumbles after being sacked and Red Skins Adam Carriker recovers it at the SEA 12. Again the Seattle defense comes to the rescue and holds Washington to a FG and a 9-0 lead. The half ends at 9-0, but it could have been a lot worse as the Seahawks had just 3 First Downs, as many as they gave up on penalties alone.

The second half starts much better for the Seahawk offense, Justin Forsett doubled the Hawks Rushing offense with one play as he ran for 35 yards for the TD making the score 9-7 in favour of the Red Skins. The Red Skins answer right back though with John Beck connecting with Pierre Thomas for a short TD pass and the lead is back to 9. The Red Skins add a FG early in the 4th to make it 19-7. Seattle gets that one back with a 39 yard FG by Nugent with just under 8 minutes left and its 19-10. With just under 4 minutes left, Redman throws his 2nd interception , this time S Kareem Moore picks the pass off and the Red Skins have the ball at the SEA 16. 3 plays later Larry Johnson runs it in from the SEA 2 and the TD makes it 26-10. The Hawks do try to make it closer as they get to the WAS 2, but 2 attempts to score fail and the clock runs out.

Philadelphia Eagles at Seattle Seahawks (-3)

Neither team can get any traction offensively in the 1st quarter, but Chris Redman is off to another slow start going 2 for 6 and -1 yard passing. To start the 2nd quarter, the Eagles pin the Seahawks deep inside their own 10. After a sack puts the Seahawks back to their own 1 yard line, they punt and give back the ball to the Eagles in Seattle territory. On the first play, QB Kevin Kolb connects with RB DeAngelo Williams for a screen pass that Williams extends into 33 yard gain and 1st and 10 at the SEA 14. The Seattle defenses holds as the Eagles fail on 3 attempts from the SEA 2 and settle for a Warren Alexander FG to make it 3-0. After getting good field position on the kickoff, Chris Redman and the Seattle offense gain some momentum keyed by a 23 yard pass to WR Golden Tate to the PHI 10. Redman and TE John Carlson cap off the drive with a 3rd and Goal 5 yard TD pass to make it 7-3 Seattle. The Seahawk defense then forces the 1st turnover of the game, when Kelly Jennings recovers TE Brent Celeks fumble at the PHI 30. The Seahawks do get a 1st down but have to settle for a 27 yd FG from Mike Nugent and extend the lead to 10-3 with under 2 minutes left in the half. The Eagles march down the field with a key Kolb pass to WR DeSean Jackson for 44 yards to the SEA 14 with 0:53 left. Seattle's defense steps up again and holds the Eagles to a 27 yard FG from Alexander and still lead 10-6. Seattle runs out the clock for the half. Seattle had some success running against a very good running defense, but only had 52 yards passing in 15 attempts from Redman.

Early in the 3rd quarter, the Hawks recieve another break as a Offensive Holding call against the Eagles wiped out a 76 yard TD pass to WR DeSean Jackson. But the Eagles get another chance midway through the quarter and make no mistakes when FB Leonard Weaver takes a screen pass 35 yards to pay dirt and a Eagle 13-10 lead. Early in the 4th quarter, the Eagles begin moving the ball again when Kevin Kolb hits WR DeSean Jackson for a 28 yard gain on a long pass to the SEA 20. Again the Seattle defense limits the damage with a 19 yard Alexander FG and now trail the Eagles 16-10 with over 10 minutes left. Its now Redman's turn to get some momentum and he does with a 30 yard pass to WR Golden Tate to the PHI 16 with 4:33 left on the clock. A few plays later, Redman connects with WR Deon Butler for a 24 yard TD pass and Seattle leads 17-16 with just under 4 minutes left. The Eagles march down the field with a solid drive themselves, a key play is a 34 yard pass to WR Jeremy Maclin to the SEA 4 with just over a minute left. The Eagles finish the drive with a 4 yard TD run by Mike Bell and get the 2 point conversion for a 24-17 lead. Seattle will start from their own 29 with 38 seconds left. Redman hits Tate for 11 yards on the 1st play to the SEA 40 and take a time out. He then goes a 4 yard pass to Deon Butler and takes another time out. The pass play is -1 yards and take the final time out with 2 seconds left to the SEA 43. On the last play of the game, Redman looks long for TE John Carlson, but it falls incomplete and the game is over.

Arizona Cardinals (-6) at Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawk defense held the Cardinals to just 26 total yards offense including 0/1 passing but could not take advantage of the good field position due to 3 penalties that stalled drives. Early in the 2nd quarter, Alex Smith and the Arizona offense gets some momentum and drives into the Red Zone, but the Seattle defense holds strong and forces the Cardinals to settle for a 35 yard FG from Jay Feely. On the first play of the Seahawks possession, Chris Redman has his deep pass intended for WR Mike Williams picked off by S Kerry Rhodes at the ARI 33. The Cardinals get another good drive going and a key pass and run play to WR Stephen Williams nets 20 yards to the SEA 28. Despite getting an Unnescessary Roughness Penalty, the Hawks defense holds again and limits the Cardinals to a 24 yard Feely FG and a 6-0 Cardinal lead with just over 5 minutes left in the half. After another 3 and out by the Seahawks, the Cardinals move the ball again into the Seahawk end aided by an Objectionable Conduct Penalty that takes them to the SEA 19. Seattles defense comes to the rescue again and forces another Feely FG, this time from 21 yards out and trail 9-0, and need some help from the offense that has just 2 first downs. The Half ends with the Seahawks getting only 68 total yards including Redman's 6/13 passing and 54 yards.

The second half doesn't start any better for the Hawks as Smith moves the Cardinals again with a key long pass to WR James Jones that is good for 24 yards to the SEA 32. This time, the Seattle defense could not longer hold the Cardinals offense off and Smith connects with WR Stephen Williams for a 10 yard TD pass and a 16-0 Cardinal lead. The Seahawks get thier first big play offensively on the next drive as Chris Redman hits WR Mike Williams for a 26 yard pass to the ARI 39. But a holding call forcing 3rd and 20 stalls the drive. After the Hawks force a 3 and out, Redman hits WR Golden Tate with a 24 yard pass to the ARI 22. The Seahawks would have to settle for a Mike Nugent 35 yard FG with just under 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, but get on the scoreboard and trail 16-3. After forcing another 3 and out, the Seahawks get the ball back and Redman drives them into the Red Zone for a second time. This time Redman caps off the drive with a 3 yard TD pass to WR Deon Butler and the Seahawks cut the deficit to 16-10 with over 11 minutes left in the game. After the Seattle defense forces the 3rd straight 3 and out by the Cardinals, Redman and the offense are on the move again and get a key 3rd down conversion with a 28 yard pass to WR Mike Williams to the ARI 42. A Holding Penalty forces the Hawks to attempt a 50 yard FG and Mike Nugent nails it and cuts the Cardinal lead to 16-13 with just under 6 minutes left. Then it becomes the Tim Hightower show, as the Cardinals get 3 +10 yard runs to keep running down the clock and force 2 Seattle timeouts before Feely kicks a 41 yard FG with just under 2 minutes left and the score now 19-13 Arizona. After the touchback, Seattle starts at their own 20, but Chris Redman is called for Intentional Grounding and forces 2nd and 20. The next play Redman's pass is picked off by CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at the SEA 36 to seal the Cardinal victory.

Seattle Seahawks at San Fransisco 49er's (-4)

The Seattle defense gets a big play early as CB Roy Lewis picks off Ryan Fitzpatrick and returns it 20 yards to the SF 26 less then 3 minutes into the game. The Seahawks had to settle for a 38 yard FG and took an early 3-0 lead. After the Seattle defense buzzed Fitzpatrick and forced a 3 and out, it was the Special Teams turn to come up big as Red Bryant blocked and recovered Andy Lees punt at the SF 16. Again, Redman is unable to get them into the end zone and they get a Nugent 27 yard FG but the 49er's are called for offsides giving the Hawks at 1st down at the SF 5. It appeared that Seattle had scored on a 2 yard TD pass to Leon Washington, but this time it was a Seahawk penalty for Illegal Use of Hand forcing the Hawks into 3rd and Goal from the SF 12. Redman connects with WR Deon Butler, but Butler comes up short at the SF 2. Nugent misses the 19 yard FG and the Seahawks come up empty. The 49er's cough up the ball again deep in their own territory when Jorge Moss fumbles the ball and Roman Harper recovers it for Seattle at the SF 24. But again, Redman can't move the Hawks and to make matters worse, Nugent misses again, this time from 33 yards and the score remains 3-0. With just over 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter, the 49er's turn it over for the 4th time, this time S Earl Thomas picks of Ryan Fitzpatrick and returns it 36 yards to the SF 5. This time the Seahawks take advantage and Marshawn Lynch punches it in from 4 yards out and Seattle is up 10-0. On the ensuing drive, Fitzpatrick and the 49er's hang on to the ball and drive into the Red Zone, The Hawks do force a Cory Anthonick 24 yd FG and the score is now 10-3 with just over 10 minutes left in the half. The Seattle offense comes up with its first big play of the day when Chris Redman connects with TE John Carlson on a short pass that Carlson takes for 41 yards to the SF 21. Redman caps off the drive with a 9 yard TD pass to Golden Tate and the Hawks are now up 17-3 at the midway point of the 2nd quarter. San Fransisco moves down the field chipping away with 10-15 yard passes but can't convert on a 3rd and 5 from the SEA 23 and have to settle for a Antonick 40 yard FG attempt that he missed right. The Seahawks do get one last chance to score on the final play of the half when they set up Mike Nugent for a 56 yard FG attempt, but it falls short.

Roman Harper sets up the Hawks with good field position to start the half returning the kickoff 43 yards to the SF 43. Redman and the Seahawks take full advantage when he connects with WR Mike Williams for a 10 yard TD pass and a 24-3 lead 3 minutes in. The 49er's have seen enough of Fitzpatrick on the day and Sage Rosenfels leads the 49er offense onto the field. Neither offense had much going until Sage Rosenfels backed up to his own 2 yard line, scrambles for 34 yards out to the SF 36. To this point since coming in, Rosenfels was 4/8 for 17 yards passing. But the drive for the 49er's goes no further and they are forced to punt. The Seahawks turnover the ball for the 1st time in the game when Leon Washington fumbles and 49er's John McCargo recovers and returns it 18 yards to the SEA 17. Seattles defense forces the 49er's to settle for a 33 yd Antonick FG making the score 24-6 with just over 13 minutes left. Redman gives the ball back to the 49ers again when he is picked off by S Taylor Mays and he returns it 8 yards to the SEA 24. But again San Fransisco has to settle for a 38 yard Antonick FG making the score 24-9 with just over 11 minutes left. But Seattle continues to do everything they can to let the 49ers back into the game. Randall Gay fumbles the Andy Lee punt and San Fransisco's Jason Spitz recovers and returns it 15 yards to the SEA 12. But in a game where mistakes rule, Rosenfels gives it right back to Seattle with a pick of his own as S Earl Thomas gets his 2nd of the game and returns it 6 yards to the SEA 13. The 49er's had thier 6th turnover late in the game when Roman Harper picked off Rosenfels at the SF 36 with just over a minute left. The Seahawks run out the clock.

Dallas Cowboys (-5) at Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks get the first big offensive play of the game when Chris Redman connects with WR Golden Tate for a 31 yard gain to the DAL 49 roughly 4 minutes into the game. Redman continued with the Seahawk strategy to stretch the field today and then hits WR Deon Butler for 22 yards to the DAL 12. The drive does stall at the DAL 7 and the Seahawks settle for a Mike Nugent 24 yard FG and a 3-0 lead just over 6 minutes in. The Seahawks continue to look downfield and Redman and WR Mike Williams combine for a 31 yard pass to the SEA 47 just over 9 minutes into the game. A few plays later, Redman hits WR Deon Butler for 28 yards to the DAL 41. Redman is 6 for 7 with 130 yards passing with 11 minutes played. The Seahawks drive stalls again and this time Nugent attempts from 54 yards out, but is blocked and the Cowboys will start at the thier own 44. The Cowboys go 3 and out and the 1st quarter ends 3-0 Seattle.

Seattle moves into Dallas territory again, but this time Mike Nugents 54 yard FG goes wide left 2 minutes into the 2nd quarter. Again the Cowboys get nothing going and Seattle moves the ball until the Chris Redman makes his 1st mistake and gets picked off by Cowboys S Akawasi Owusu-Ansah at the DAL 30 after just over 5 minutes into the 2nd. Neither team can amount much offensive pressure but the Cowboys get thier first big offensive play of the game when Tony Romo connects with WR Miles Austin for a 49 yard pass and catch to the SEA 24 with 1:40 left in the half. Unlike the Seahawks, the Cowboys successfully cap off the drive with a 7 yard TD pass from Romo to WR Sam Hurd with a 1 minute left and a 7-3 lead. With 8 seconds left in the half, Chris Redman hits WR Deon Butler for 21 yards to the DAL 38, but Mike Nugents 55 yard FG try falls short to end the half, a half that Seattle dominated in total yards 259 to 173.

The Seahawks take the opening driving of the 2nd half into the Red Zone, but they have to settle for a 30 yard Mike Nugent FG and cut the lead to 7-6 with just over 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Redman gets picked off for the 2nd time in the game, this time though ILB Bradie James gets a "pick six" as he returns it 52 yards for the score. Dallas is now up 14-6 with just over 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Redman and the Seahawks get the ball back and Redman slings a short pass to RB Marshawn Lynch that Lynch stretches into 44 yards to the DAL 30 with just over 11 minutes gone in the quarter. A few plays later, Redman connects with FB Michael Robinson on a screen pass that goes for 24 yards to the DAL 1. Leon Washington punches it in for the TD, Redman then completes to 2 point convert with a pass to Mike Williams and we are tied at 14 with just over 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The quarter ends 14-14 despite the total yards of 406 to 194 in Seattle's favor.

After another stop of the Cowboys by the Seahawks, Seattle moves back into the Red Zone with just over 3 minutes played in the 4th, but again the drive stalls and the Seahawks get a 25 yard Nugent FG and take the lead 17-14. On the ensuing kickoff, Cowboys Josh Morgan losses the ball and Seahawks Randall Gay recovers it at the DAL 19. The Seattle offense nets 2 False Start penalties and force another Nugent FG, this time good from 46 yards and a 20-14 lead with just under 8 minutes left. After Dallas goes 3 and out, its Seattle's turn to give the ball away and its Deon Butler who fumbles the punt and Dallas recovers it at the SEA 21 with just over 5 minutes left. Seattle Seahawks at New York Giants (-6)

After a quick 3 and out and a bad punt, the Giants get great field position at the SEA 37 but get no where. David Akers 53 yard FG try is blocked by Red Bryant and Seattle start at the Giants 49. The Seahawks do not take advantage and Nugents 54 yd FG attempt falls short nearly 5 minutes in. The Giants take over and a few plays later are in the Red Zone, the Giants think they score a TD, but a holding call pushes them back to the SEA 13 and eventually settle for a 27 yd Akers FG and lead 3-0. The Seattle offense gets it 1st big play of the game when Chris Redman finds WR Mike Williams for a 21 yard pass to the SEA 39 and thier 1st First Down of the game but the Seahawks are forced to punt a few plays later. Early in the 2nd quarter, the Seahawks settle for a 41 yd Mike Nugent FG and the score is now tied 3-3. The Seahawks are struggling trying to run the ball as they are -1 yards in 5 attempts. The Seahawks then march down the field to the NYG 31 with 32 seconds left. Mike Nugent kicks a 48 yd FG and Seattle is up 9-6. Thats how the half ends with the Seahawks holding Eli Manning to 84 yards on his 10 for 22 1st half.

The Giants start the half with a good drive into deep Seattle territory, facing 3rd and 2 from the SEA 18, Mannings pass is picked off in the end zone by OLB Leroy Hill. The Seahawks get another big play from their offense on 3rd and 11 when Redman hooks up with WR Michael Jenkins for 21 yards to the SEA 39. A few plays later, Redman's pass attempt is picked off by CB Terrel Thomas and for the 2nd time in 2 games, is returned for a TD with Thomas's 59 yard return. The Giants now lead 13-9 with just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. After a Seahawk 3 and out, the Giants move deep into Seattle territory again. The 3rd quarter ends with the Giants facing 1st and 10 at the SEA 11 and leading 13-9.

The Seahawks holds and the Giants settle for an Akers 19 yd FG and now lead 16-9 with over 13 minutes left to play. The Seattle offense gets another big offensive play when Chris Redman connects with WR Golden Tate for 33 yards to the NYG 35 with just under 9 minutes left but the next play Marshawn Lynch fumbles the ball and the Giants recover. The Giants move the ball into deep Seattle territory, running down the clock, Akers makes it a 2 score game with his 32 yd FG and a 19-9 Giants lead with just over 2 minutes left. Seattle Seahawks at St Louis Rams (-6)

The Rams get a good return on the opening kickoff and 8 plays later, 7 of which were runs they are at the SEA 12. On the next play, Sam Bradford connects with TE Owen Daniels for a 12 yd TD pass and a 7-0 lead after just over 5 minutes. On Seattle's first play of the game, Chris Redman's pass is picked off by CB Bradley Fletcher and for the 3rd straight game a Redman pass is taken back for a TD, this time its 54 yards and a Rams 14-0 lead. On the first play of the next possession, Redman completes a 31 yard pass to WR Golden Tate to the STL 31. A few plays later when Seattle couldnt convert 3rd and 1, Mike Nugent is good on a 28 yard FG and the Rams lead is cut to 14-3 with just over 9 minutes played. On the Rams next possession, they get a big play when QB Sam Bradford hits RB Steven Jackson with a short pass that Jackson extends for 25 yards to the SEA 42. The Rams move the ball into the Red Zone but have to settle for a Nick Folk 28 yard FG and the lead is now 17-3 with under a minute left in the 1st. Thats how the 1st quarter ends.

Early in the 2nd quarter, Seattle sets up Mike Nugent for a 51 yard FG try, but he misses left and the Rams will get good field position. On the very next play, RB Steven Jackson gets into the secondary and runs for 21 yards to the SEA 38. The Rams do get points on the drive when Nick Folk hits a 38 yard FG and the score is now 20-3 for the Rams with just under 10 minutes left. The Hawks do convert a 3rd and 10 when QB Chris Redman hits WR Mike Williams for 21 yards to the SEA 43. The Seahawks do move the ball to the STL 5, but have to settle for a 22 yard FG from Nugent and the make the score 20-6 with just under 5 minutes left in the half. Bradford moves the ball again for the Rams getting a key 24 yard pass and catch with WR Ricardo Borders to the SEA 46, but a few plays later, Bradford is picked off by CB Kelly Jennings at the SEA 33. Neither team can amount any offense in the final minutes of the half so it ends 20-6 in favour of the Rams.

After both teams start the half with 3 and outs, Chris Redman has another pass picked off by the Rams and once again its returned for a TD. S Pete Fulcher intercepts Redman and runs it back 31 yards for the TD and makes the score 27-6 for the Rams nearly 4 minutes in. Redman goes right back to the air on the first play after the kickoff and gets a 39 yard completion to WR Michael Jenkins to the STL 36 but the Seahawks give the ball back to the Rams when RB Marshawn Lynch fumbles and Rams Jerome Murphy recovers and returns it the SEA 49. Neither team can get the offense going as both teams go 3 and out, but the Rams get some momentum offensively late in the 3rd quarter and drive to the SEA 15. But Seattle's defense holds up and forces a 30 yard Folk FG and the Rams are now up 30-6 with just under 2 minutes left in the 3rd. On the Seahawks first play after the kickoff, Redman is picked off again by Clint Sessions and its returned to the SEA 20. The quarter ends with the score 30-6 and the Rams facing 3rd and 1 from the SEA 11.

Just two plays later, RB Steven Jackson runs for an 8 yard TD and the Rams extend the lead to 37-6. The Seahawks do respond with a 35 yard TD run by Leon Washington and get the 2 point conversion with a pass to TE John Carlson to make it 37-14 with just over 10 minutes remaining. After a 3 and out by the Rams, Redman completes a 24 yard pass to WR Golden Tate to the STL 46. A few plays later, Redman connects with WR Golden Tate again for a 29 yard gain to the STL 2. Redman caps the drive with a 2 yard TD pass to TE John Carlson, but are unable to convert the 2 point attempt. The score is 37-20 with just under 5 minutes remaining. The Seahawks attempt the onside kick, but the Rams recover the ball at the SEA 39. The Rams get a 38 yard FG out of it and its now 40-20 with just under 2 minutes left. Seattle does get the ball back, but is unable to get much going and runs out the clock.

Pittsburg Steelers at Seattle Seahawks (Even)

The Seahawks have a very good drive to start the game as 8 plays and 67 yards sees them facing 2nd and 3 at the PIT 16. Four plays later, RB Leon Washington caps off the drive with a 9 yard TD pass from Chris Redman and a 7-0 Hawks lead nearly 6 minutes in. Seattle then forces a 3 and out but on the punt, Deon Butler fumbles and Steelers Travis Gibbs recovers it and returns it 40 yards for a TD and a tie game. The Seahawks take the ensuing kickoff and march down the field setting up a 1st and Goal from the PIT 7. This time RB Leon Washington runs the ball in for a 5 yard TD and Seattle now leads 14-7 with just under 3 minutes remaining in the quarter. After forcing another 3 and out, the Seahawks start their next drive in Pittsburg territory just before the quarter ends 14-7. Roethlisberger is 1 for 4 passing and 8 yards and no Steeler 1st downs.

Early in the 2nd quarter a 17 yard run by Leon Washington sets up 1st and 10 from the PIT 15. Three plays later, the Hawks will have to settle for a 25 yd FG by Mike Nugent and extend the lead to 17-7 with just over 12 minutes left in the half. The Seahawks force another 3 and out and have held the Steelers to -2 Total Yards so far. The Seahawks are unable to get a first down and give the ball back to Pittsburg who gets it first 1st down of the game with just over 8 minutes left in the half. But a few plays later, DE E.J Wilson sacks Roethlisberger and forces a fumble the Seahawks Chris Clemons picks up and returns 22 yards for a TD and a 24-7 Seattle lead with just over 7 minutes left in the half. With just over 4 minutes left, QB Ben Roethlisberger gets his pass intended for WR Hank Baskett picked off by OLB Matt McCoy who returns it 26 yards to the PIT 10. Three plays later, Redman connects with WR Michael Jenkins for a 7 TD pass and a 31-7 Seattle lead. The struggling Steelers offense doubles it total net yards on a 24 yard pass to WR Emmanuel Sanders that takes them to the SEA 33 with just over a minute left, but the Steelers drive is snuffed out by OLB David Hawthorne in the end zone with 0:45 remaining in the half. The Seahawks go to the locker room with a 31-7 lead holding the Steelers to just 69 Total yards.

The Seahawks get the 1st big offensive play in the 2nd half when facing 3rd and 19, Redman connects with WR Golden Tate for 26 yards and a first down with just over 5 minutes played. The Hawks continue the drive and get a 52 yard Mike Nugent FG with just under 5 minutes left in the quarter to take a 34-7 lead. But a few play later, the Steeler get a 68 yard TD run by Willis McGahee and cut the lead to 34-14 with just under 4 minutes left. Thats the way the 3rd quarter ends.

With not much happening for either team offensively for a while, Seattle gets a 22 yard pass from Redman to WR Mike Williams to the PIT 25 with just over 9 minutes left in the game. Four plays later, Redman hooks up with TE John Carlson for a 12 TD pass and a 41-14 lead. Pittsburg does get a big play on the ensuing drive when Roethlisberger hits WR Emmaneul Sanders for a 27 yard pass to the PIT 46 with just over 6 minutes left, but they will settle for a 47 yard Jeff Reed FG with just over 2 minutes left and makes the score 41-17. The Seahawks run out the clock for the victory.

The Falcons do get a 30 yard pass play from Ryan to WR Mark Clayton on the last play of the half, but thats how the half ends. The Seahawks had 233 yards of offense including 92 yards rushing in the half while Redman was 15/20 for 146 yards.

The Seahawks were unable to get a first down in their first possession, but the Falcons did get a big play when QB Matt Ryan connected with RB Michael Turner for a 24 yard pass play to the SEA 40 nearly 3 minutes in. The Falcons did get a 50 yard Matt Bryant FG to tie it at 17-17 just over 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter. This time its Seattle's turn to get a big offensive play as QB Chris Redman hits TE John Carlson for a 21 yard pass to the SEA 40 at the 6 minute mark, but Seattle was unable to get much more on the possession and had to punt. After a couple of Seahawk penalties extended the Falcon's drive deep in their own end, Matt Ryan hits WR Roddy White with a 30 yard pass play to the SEA 47 with just under 7 minutes left in the quarter. A few plays later, K Matt Bryant misses a 47 yard FG attempt and the Hawks escape giving up the lead. The Hawks fail to get a first down, and to make matterd worse Jon Ryans punt is blocked by Falcons Ovie Mughelli and they take over possession at the SEA 24 with just over 3 minutes left in the 3rd. On 2nd and 14 after a holding penalty, RB Micheal Turner runs for a 19 yard gain to the SEA 9. Atlanta takes advantage of the Hawks turnover as Ryan connects with WR Roddy White for the 5 yard TD pass and a 24-17 lead with just seconds left in the 3rd quarter.

The Seahawks get no where on their possession to start the 4th quarter and Atlanta was facing a 2nd and 15 after a false start penalty but got a 21 yard pass from Matt Ryan to RB Michael Turner to the ATL 48 with just over 3 minutes into the quarter. Thats as far as the Falcons drive would go and Seattle gets the ball back. But Seattle goes 3 and out including a 3rd down sack that had them facing 4th and 17 from the SEA 13 before having to punt with just over 9 minutes left in the game. Luckily for the Seahawks, the Falcons offense stalls and after a touch back on the punt, Seattle starts at the SEA 20 with just over 6 1/2 minutes left. The Hawks get a couple of first downs but a Jon Ryan punt and Falcon holding penalty forces the Falcons to start at the ATL 7 with 3:30 left. With the Falcons sticking to the run to run out the clock, they face a 3rd and 9 from the ATL 21 with 2 minutes left, RB Michael Turner runs for 12 yards and a first down which would seal the game for the Falcons.
