2-27-05: Race 3- Results

A rested Wall Street Bandit takes the early lead with Favorite in third and Ursulo fifth. Down the back straight Wall Street leads Rio by 1/2 with Ursulo fifth and Favorite sixth. Rio leads the pack with 500m left, Wall Street second. 400m from the line Rio still leads but Favorite charges on the outside and Ursulo drops to eighth. 300m to go Favorite has the lead over Halo Boyss with Ursulo stuck in traffic. Favorite leads by 1 length over Halo with 200m more to go and Ursulo is fifth and finally clear. 100m to the wire Halo passes a tiring Favorite for first but here comes Ursulo into third. Halo's lead is too much for Ursulo to overcome, but he passes Favorite for second behind Halo at the finish.

Game Notes: Betting Lines

Just a note to explain another screwy thing that now, more than before, may come into play.

The game has 2 separate betting lines, one for the bookie and one for the paramutual line (track betting). The problem is that the paramutual line changes constantly, while the bookie line is more static. The line can go from a 5/2 favorite to a 33/1 lonshot and back in the course of 20 seconds, which is why Almighty wager outcomes sometimes look screwed up for the bet made.

Anyway, the point is, I may use the bookie odds to post in the big races, even though the track lines are totally different by the time the race actually starts, so the wager outcomes could be all fucked up at times.

Author's Note:

I'm not really sure what to include in the intro/write ups for the bigger races, so I would appreciate any input anyone can give on the amount of information that is enough or too much or too little...or if it matters.

Also, there are no markers on the course for furlongs or 1/8s of a mile. There are the meters to go markers starting at 500m, so it is also a chore to try and figure out how far has been done and how far to go. How much actual race position information, realizing I am not actually ( ) a pro race announcer, during the race is good?

You can see what I put in and let me know of anything that would make it more fun or immersive. We may only have a dozen or so regulars here so I would like to make it as enjoyable as possible for the loyal readers (and the once a weekers, too, of course).

Almighty Farms has gotten an incredibly lucky draw for post positions. You can imagine the pitfalls that await any horse with as much traffic as will be on the course in this race. Of course, we have seen races where post positions on the rail are hazardous if the horse doesn't get out of the box quickly and gets stuck on the rail behind a horse.

Obviously Almighty Farms entries compare well, or much better, than most of these horses. BL is easily the best of the bunch. We were very surprised to see that Western Darkness and Harmonie Du conte were not very highly ranked as they are the #1 and #2 ranked horses ,respectively, in the game as far as career gains are concerned.

These are the favorites in the race based on a simple point system from the bookies and race mags. Harmonie was only 11th in the Power Rankings, but is an overwhelming favorite of the supposed experts. We don't understand how BL is not on this list. She has a good post position and is the clear choice from the statistical perspective.

Anyway, based on post position and statistical analysis (or wishful thinking), Almighty Farms has placed the following wagers:
Wager
Horse
Amount
Place
Beautiful Ladonia
$500,000
Show
Imperatrice
$500,000
Show
Feline
$500,000
Show
Purple Tearse
$500,000

Obviously, all 4 of them can't be in the top 3, but we don't really know what to expect. With the good post positions we have and the talent of our stock, we figure at least 2 of them should be in there.

The Race:

The field comes out of the gate and it’s a mad scramble for positioning. Harmonie Du conte is the 1st to the rail followed by Western Darkness, Imperatrice, Purple Tearse. Kria Aimant is 5th while Desert Luck Lee stands 6th. Beautiful Ladonia is 8th and Feline is 11th.

As they move through the first turn, Imperatrice moves ahead by a length over Harmonie and Western D,
Purple T in 4th and B Ladonia 5th, followed by Kria. Feline is 13th.

Down the back straight they go, Imperatrice still leads but now by ˝ on Kria as Harmonie and Western D drop
back. B Ladonia is still 5th and Purple T is 6th. Feline stands 12th.

Around the final turn and Western D sprints quickly into 1st, Harmonie to 2nd following the first whipping of
the race. Imperatrice is 3rd, B Ladonia 4th, Kria 5th and Vaporeuse makes an appearance in the top six now
as well. Purple T drops to ninth while Feline’s up to 11th.

Down to 500m in the race and Imperatrice is your leader followed by Vaporeuse, Western D, Harmonie,
B Ladonia and Kria the top six. Purple T is up to 7th and Feline now 10th.

Passing the 400m pole, Vaporeuse passes Imperatrice for first while Desert is whipped into 3rd. Western D
stands 4th followed by B Ladonia and a fading Harmonie in 6th. Purple T is still 7th and Feline still 10th.

300m to the line and the whips are out across the track. Horses are flying and tanking left and right. Imperatrice
moves into 1st with Kria passing a tiring Vaporeuse for 2nd. B Ladonia is 4th now, Desert 5th and fading and
Purple T now is 6th. Feline is still 10th.

Crunch time looms as some of these horses begin to tire while others seem fresh. Only 200m to go. Another
swat from the whip leads Vaporeuse back into the lead with Imperatrice 2nd, Desert 3rd, B Ladonia 4th and
Kria 5th. In 6th is Purple T but she is charging on the outside. Feline is now up to 8th.

100m from the finish line and Vaporeuse still leads but, whoa Nelly, B Ladonia gets the whip from Risdale and
shoots up to 2nd. Imperatrice is 3rd and Purple T has moved into 4th. Desert stands 5th, followed by Kria while
Feline remains in 8th.

50m to go in the race and B Ladonia has taken the lead, Imperatrice is 2nd, Purple T 3rd and a faltering
Vaporeuse is 4th. In 5th is Desert with Kria 6th and Feline now 7th.

At the wire it’s Beautiful Ladonia by ľ over Imperatrice with Purple Tearse in 3rd.

Yeah, we know we could have bet more on BL, and to win, especially with those odds, but we've seen too many races with lots of entries where our horse gets stuck and can't escape in time, just missing the win.

Anyway, no matter how you slice it, this was a greater outcome than we could have hoped for. Just so it doesn't spoil us for future big races. In this game, anything can, will and does happen.

SWEEP! I was scared there for a while. I guess BL was just trying to show off by waiting so long to go to the front.

I liked the race summary format too.

Macho and Artisanale break out fast and lead around the first turn. Down the back straight, Artisanale leads by 1/2 on Macho but Macho catches up to her around the final turn. With 400m to go, Escude takes a swat at Artisanale and she is gone. Race over, she wins by 8 lengths or so.

Junior, we bred our 2 mares about a month ago (gametime). It takes 11 months so we won't see how they do until the 1st or 2nd week in january next year.

Raven Hawk, the 2 pregnant mares are not Ursulo and Favorite (especially since Ursulo is a male ). He is, however, the stud of the 2 colt/foals to be.

The thing is that the 2 pregnant ones are never raced or discussed, so you may have missed them. They were only purchased to breed. They are Fleur Des Poetes and Impressive Groomy, and you still won't hear their names again for months to come.

It will be awhile before anymore names are needed since I can't breed anymore until next february, so keep on following along and you never know what might pop out.

Lol! I just wasn't full caught up. I read down to the bottom of page 2 and was wishing them luck in their race. That's what happens when you try to catch up on a dynasty between meetings at work.

This race is all Listed horses but there is a wide range of ability. Most are nothing, but a few have 50 stats and 2, Catoyoe and Bergere du Loctin have ratings in the 50s and 60s. Not up to Lodeso, but better than most Listed stock. Lodeso drew post position 11 (of 13), but that shouldn't really be a problem, we hope.

Catoyoe comes out first, followed closely by Lodeso with Bergere 1 1/2 back. Lodeso takes the lead in the back straight and holds it until the 400m mark where Catoyoe gets a whipping and moves to the front by 1 1/2. With 300m to go, Risdale gives Lodeso a shot and off he goes. he leaves the field behind and wins by 4 lengths.

Pretty good positions in this one for Almighty Farms. We like the #4/5 combination as at least one of the two should have excellent starting position out of the gate.

A bit more competitive this time around than last, or maybe it just seems so without BL and Purple Tearse in the race. BL is sitting out just to train, while Purple is out to rest because her injury % was getting to be higher than we want.

Only 200m to go. Feline leads Gem and Favorite by 1/2 with Man and Joyeuse next. Imperatrice is up to 6th as Ursulo
drops to 7th.

100m from the finish line Gem takes the lead by a nose on Feline and Favorite, Man back 1/2 and Imperatrice

Another good showing from Almighty Farms with 3 of the top 4, though not the #1 slot. Not bad with our 2 top racers back home in Dallas resting and traiining.

One important point to think about as you chose which ones to get, these are already 2 year olds. That means they are ready to race and train NOW and are weeks behind. Plus, we already have two 2-year olds in our stable, so don't go crazy, though we have room for any we want.

What would you do with this group if you were in charge of Almighty Farms. General Almighty, the patriarch of the Almighty family has, of course, already made his choice(s) and (s)he or they are friskily prancing about the stables and pastures outside Dallas. What do you think?

Here is a brief look at what the statistics are supposed to indicate:
  1. Speed- maximum possible speed
  2. Acceleration- acceleration speed
  3. Technique- ability to overtake horses in a race
  4. Adaptability- to the behavior of the jockey
  5. Discipline- capacity to progress through training
  6. Injure- shows how close to injury and how much an animal can take before it gets hurt
  7. Endurance- ability to sustain in longer races

Well, Joyful Berry is a definite must, I think. As secondary choices, I'd go with Jimo d'un Amour, Little, Seven Signal and/or Joyeuse des Bros. Both Little and Joyeuse have good injury scores and good endurance, which means they will be better able to stand up to training and racing. Joyeuse is a little slow, but it is something that could easily be improved, and she has great quickness. Little is easily the fastest horse in the sale, has good discipline, and is the equal of Joyful Berry in Endurance.

As for Seven Signal and JD Amour, Seven Signal is the better horse, but both are good. Amour's lack of technique is worriesome in an immediate racer, but he has the best overall speed/acceleration rating. Seven is faster though, almost as quick, better technique, the same endurance and better discipline.

If I were to pick two, I'd go with Joyful Berry and Little, with Seven Signal as my third choice.

03-20-05: Auction Results

Almighty Farms has 2 new horses to add to our stables. The lucky new arrivals are Little and Joyful Berry.

There were 5 horses in the auction that were obvious choices for second looks, as they all, unbelievably, had discipline ratings in the 90s. We believe discipline to be the most important statistic in the game for any horse as it not only affects training but, just as importantly, it is the key in recovering form after racing.

So, we were only looking at Amour, Joyeuse, Berry, Little and Seven right away, as were you, we'd imagine.

As y'all said, we felt Joyful Berry was an obvious choice. Unfortunately, she has a very low injury rating. Likewise, Amour and Seven show the same low injury rating as Berry. We didn't want to deal with too many horses with such low scores but couldn't pass on Berry, so decided not to take the other two.

That left our choices to Little and Amour. We felt that Little was a bit better and so took her.

We welcome Little and Joyful Berry to Almighty Farms and wish them long and fruitful tenures.

---> Hold, an original, sold for $1,531,488. We wish him luck at his new stable.

---> For reference sake, Little cost Almighty Farms $1,566,400 while Joyful Berry cost $1,705,300.

---> Flying Bette left our boarding stable, leaving only one non-Almighty Farms horse using a box.

---> The dietician dropped by to check on Purple Tearse, as well as our new arrivals (not that it will help the bulimia and diarhhea in the paddock area ).

---> Imperatrice has reached the #5 rank in the classification of the biggest prize winners in her racing category (actually last week, but we didn't notice then).

---> Even with an outcome of one additional horse, our fame score fell a point to 83 while the stable ranking dropped to a tie for 23rd.

---> No races were run last week in preparation for this week, when the Dubai races will be run. There are 5 races ranging in distance from 1200m to 2400m. The prize money is $2 million per race except for the biggie of the year, the $6 million Dubai World Cup. We have not decided yet which horse to run in which race.

---> No change in fame score nor ranking.

Yeah, kingfc, of course we know which one BL will be in , but do we give her some company in the biggie, and try for the big payday, or do we spread them out more for more chances at a win. Second in the $6 million is worth more than first in the others, we figure.
