This is far from a rebellion, CS. Hell, there was a bigger uprising when Rufus was banned!

I don't see this as anything but silly.
HA "cowboy up." OTHER "FUCK YOU" HA says HA-stuff. Somebody is offended and reports thread. How many others reported the thread? HA suspended after being told to "Fuck Off" and responding in the way he always does. Of course there was no "If you are offended by HA, put him on ignore" or why not just delete his post and make it "Edited by SkyDog" like you've done on many other occasions? If HA continues to post the same shit after you've edited his post then suspsend him. Simply stating that his is a pattern and go from there when others have said horrible things and are lauded for it as brilliant. Go figure. |

...Skydog doesn't like to ban anyone. He gave everyone he has put on the banned list plenty of chances to hang themselves, and even allowed a few to come back as alts, and they have been good citizens since. I think HA is on thin ice, but he hasn't come close to the behaviour of those permantly sent into that final twilight. |

On thin ice? Folks, this is an INTERNET FORUM. I live in a great neighborhood but I don't let my 5 year old out of my sight for a second. That is real life. Weirdos out there are doing horrible things to children just turn on the news and you'll see some story about some poor child that will make you cry for a week. That is tragic. Somebody responding to a "fuck off" comment that wasn't warranted on a relatively anonymous forum on the internet is hardly what I'd call "thin ice." Perspective people. |

It's not the only thing, but it certainly does matter who you are. If out of nowhere Quiksand told somebody to stick their head up their ass and fart, we'd all scratch our heads and think that such behavior was uncharacteristic.
It sounds like you want the ban or penalty box line set at the lowest common denominator. I doubt that's where most people on this board would like it.

The weakest part of the argument about HA's suspension is that it was because it was him. That makes it appear that if someone else had said what he said it would have been OK. If it was OK for someone else to say it, then why not for him? You're holding him to a higher standard because you don't like him. That's not a persuasive argument.
I think Bonegavel's point makes a good case for a brief suspension, not a banning. HA crossed the line and he'll do his time in the box. As I said earlier, I think he was partly provoked, but he chose a bad place and time to stand up for himself. If you don't like what he has to say, use the ignore feature. HA can be a jerk at times, but I don't think he's anymore of a troll than most of us from time to time. He's not mrskippy or Happy29. |

About the only reason I frequent this forum (aside from the occasional nugget of FOF info that comes through) is because SkyDog keeps a nice lid on things, allowing lots of leeway while still maintaining some boundaries. I for one am very happy with the job he's doing.
I've only ever had to put 3 people on my Ignore list. One's been banned, one's been suspended, and one was thanks to his sig which has since been changed and so I've taken that person off. Without SkyDog, the list would be a lot higher, or I wouldn't be here.

HA never sayd "fuck you" to anybody in that thread. Karim said that to HA after the "cowboy up" post. That to me seemed like a personal, unprovoked attack against HA. It was to that HA replied "I wish your mother was pro-choice." A pretty harsh rebuke, but probably in the same genre as "fuck you" as a retort. HA's "get hit by a car" comment was in response to this: Quote:
HA annoys me plenty, but there are people who annoy me a lot more -- if I had admin powers, every poster of a parody thread would be banned without warning, since the ignore feature doesn't work on those. As I said earlier, I don't disagree with Ben's course of action, although I think it could have been handled better. I'm moving on because I don't care that much and I don't think prolonging the discussion is fair to HomerJ, HA or SkyDog. This only crosses my radar because as "trolls" go, I'd rather have a HA than some others around here -- at least he's occassionally interesting instead of someone who does nothing but look for fights, copy quotes from other threads, beats the same joke into the ground a 1,000 times or posts porn links. Never thought I'd say it, but some great points, kcchief19. IMHO, "I wish your mother was pro-choice" is much more original and interesting than "Fuck you".

I would hate to see a board that Marmel moderated, since no banning or suspension ever seems justified in his mind. Instead, SkyDog is always just being a dictator. Why can't the jerks be jerks without fear of consequences? Here's how I think about moderation on this board, and in a larger sense, about our criminal justice system: Let's worry a little bit more about the victim's rights, and a little less about the offender's rights. Brilliant observation. However, if you go back and actually read my post this time, you will notice I did not argue against the suspension for HA. I simply noted how Skydog enjoys grandstanding. Edit to add: I believe the previous suspension was Franklin, and I never said a word. I think you only call me out because yes I have called out SkyDog a few times for the way he usually recklessly moderates a very good message board, in my opinion.

But any time anyone is suspended or banned, you cry about SkyDog the dictator. Perhaps a little grandstanding of your own?

So I have 12 more posts than you in 4 years about Skydog. Anyway, I was just responding to you using my name specifically and saying I was protesting the banning, and I wanted to clarify that I neither protested nor supported it in my post. I was suspended for discussing mod. decisions in the forum and was told specifically that all mod decisions should be discussed through PM. The rule obviously does not apply to Skydog and I wanted to make note of that. edited to add: I am bowing out here too. I didn't post to get into a back and forth defending my position...unless you want to make a poll out of this.

You should make your way over to the JBL board. Marmel does a pretty good job there. There has been some nasty shit said about one another on the JBL board but we all realize one point...it is a message board, don't take it to heart. There are asses out there and in the real world and (not the message board world) you are going to have people say this stuff to your face. So what are you going to do run to mommy and say "please ban him because so-and-so said something mean and hurt my feelings". Give me a break. Quote:
