Hrm. My install (from a hard copy of the game) seems to be taking a while. I'd imagine the DVD that shipped was an old build and I'm having to download a phantom "patch." Hopefully I get to the "fail to log in due to overtaxed servers" stage by the end of the night.

Right-click on the item to identify. They removed scrolls from the game.

Also, if anyone else has this problem, you have to enable Secondary logon under Control Panel\Administrative Settings\Settings. As long as it's set to anything but "Disabled" it'll work.

So does anyone have a trial thing (guest pass I think it's called)? Apparently you can't get the trial right now without one, so right now my plans of trying the game over the weekend are shot.

Not for the first 30 days, aka the same time when everybody else will be able to consistently play.

Have you tried it? I would assume that Diablo III is pretty scalable like WoW is. Maybe not, though

it is, and it even has a super low graphics mode.

I really want to play now that I bought it. Servers were down when I bought it, and now when I go to play before bed they just go down as I create my character.

I'm not one of those SUPER ENTITLED GIMMEM INE NOW OR ELSE type gamers, but for a developer as large and established as Blizzard some shit I just don't understand.

Finally got in to play a little. Very impressed with the graphics, gameplay seems smooth. Little too "on rails" to begin with, in my opinion. One of the greatest parts about Diablo II was you were almost instantly given an extremely open world, and it was simply "explore." I understand you're catering to a different gamer now, but even the first level of the cathedral (first real quest after the intro "this is what the buttons do, hurr" quest) was pretty straightforward.

Looking forward to getting to know the game more tomorrow!

Once you get past the Cathedral it opens up big time, I've found. And like Diablo 2 it seems to generate random maps for the same areas.

So can someone enlighten me on how dual wielding compares to two handed weapons? I just don't understand if I am DW two weapons in the 10.5 range, is a single 2 hander of 14-15 dps better than that? I just don't have a good feel for how the dps of the two weapons add up.

Here's some interesting discussion on it.

On my level 13 Demon Hunter I've been using 2 1H crossbows.

Pretty miserable time trying to play at this hotel and their shitty internet. It seems not only is your login authenticated online, but ever action is transmitted up and then returned before you process it.

I started a Wizard. Walking around seems fine, but when I cast a spell I get a 1-2 second delay before it shows on screen. I was able to struggle through the first section where it is only the walking dead, but I know once I get a little further into it I will not be able to stay alive very long playing like that. Guess I'll have to wait until I get home to really jump into it.

Just read this at InsertCoin:

Quote:
The first game breaking bug has already been found in the game. During one mission if you’re the Demon Hunter class and give your equipped shield to a Templar follower, the game will boot you off the server, give you a 3006 error and won’t let you log back in. It’s being worked on, but stay away from that templar, Demon Hunters.

I'm trying to avoid the hype train too and I have to keep reminding myself I didn't play D1 all that much and never played D2.

So I see how to access the Auction House from the main menu outside the game, but is there also a way to get there from inside? Of course it is so laggy it is barely functional but maybe that will improve with time. Also, when do I actually receive items I buy there?

You have to leave your current game to access the auction house. You receive purchased items immediately, I cant remember exactly where you collect them from... I *think* its the completed tab from the auction house ui.

Ah you are right, in the completed tab there is a button that lets you send the item to your stash in game.

It's frustrating that the servers are down, but expected.

I'm perusing the D3 forums at battle.net and it's hilarious. People are freaking out. Don't they realize that every single online game launch ever has had problems like this the first few days and it will continue on that way with launches forever?

In a week everyone will forget about all these issues on the first couple of days.
