Clarification -

For searching chests for traps or to pick a lock, do I need to say I'm searching them then open (2 actions) or does opening them imply that I'm checking for traps?

Searching tells you the status of anything you find, and you automatically open the unlocked. If you find a secret door hiding a small cache of goods, you will open it, if a chest in unlocked you will open it, etc.

If you find a trap in your search, then you will not open unlocked trapped things, but disarming or triggering the trap will also get you the items inside.

Mine said as I move through the door I arrive in a new room with a new bearing. It also said I'm pretty sure this isn't the room I intended to move to, however atleast I'm still on the same level.

We need to talk.

I've ID'ed your items and you have a +1 Dagger (value 200 gold) and a Potion of Antidote which cures any poison a person currently has. I happened to be poisoned, -1 to hit, +1 to be hit for the rest of the game until/if I can find a cure.

I can trade some of my food if you need it, plus free ID's for as long as I'm alive. It has a value of 100 gold.

I moved to the place I was going to for sure, since it had the same creatures in it from when I retreated from it. Weird thing, though -- there were four at first, I killed two, but when I went back in, there were four again.

You have found a very nice ring indeed. A Ring of Wisdom. It increased XP gained by 10%, but has one drawback. It cannot be worn by humans. It has a value of 400 gold.
