Ernie Anastos, iconic New York anchor, dies at 82

More than 30 local Emmys, including a lifetime Emmy, he worked for four stations in the market spanning five decades.

And yes, to the rest of the world, he's probably best known for one of the most infamous bloopers of all time "... keep fucking that chicken"

Apparently he was the guy who played Garcia's BF for a couple seasons on Criminal Minds.

RIP Dash Crofts. Gonna spin my best of Seals and Crofts vinyl tonight. Possibly the most misspelled easy name of any popular artist (Seals and Croft).

RIP Garrett Anderson. There are far worse careers to have than to almost hit .300 and almost get to 300 HR.

They were just talking about this on the Mets broadcast and Ron Darling clearly emotional said Anderson got his first career hit off him.

Don't know much about him but I feel like buying a baseball team and investing heavily into wrestling are what I would do if I was a billionaire.

He wasn't even a billionaire yet when he did both. How the times have changed. He took a small, local non-affiliated television station and created a cable empire. He purchased the Braves for $12 million dollars, and after trying all sorts of goofy minor league style publicity stunts (even making himself manager at one point) to make them profitable, he put them on the "SuperStation" across the country to make them "America's Team." Creating CNN changed the landscape of news journalism, both good and bad. He was the right guy at the right time with the right resources to totally exploit the cable television explosion, then was smart enough to walk away before the internet caused it to collapse. Still there are things like CNN, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies (which has preserved thousands of films) which will long be remembered. Not to mention Ted's Montana Grill has some good burgers.

Turner was larger than life.

I remember reading that he was the largest landholder in the United States for a number of years, which seems like one of the ultimate rich guy flexes/titles that you could have.

RIP

Read this in a newsletter this morning talking about Turner and LOL'd:

Turner's funeral will be this Friday at 11:05. If it rains, mourners will be shown episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show" until the proceedings can resume.

From early reports, it sounds like he died of exactly what put me in the hospital in April. We think we can shrug something like that off passing at as a sinus infection or a cold, until it is too late. I'm so fortunate that I caught it early by a fluke really.

Missed while the board has been screwy, but Braves legend Bob Horner died a few days ago. It has been a rough month for former Braves players and dignitaries. Horner was such a personality when i was a kid. First pick overall, never played in the minors, and his first major league at bat was a homer. Weight issues slowed down his career, but he had such a pure power swing.
I said elsewhere we need to protect Dale Murphy at all cost. Maybe wrap Chipper in bubble wrap for a while till this ill wind blow over.
