The guy who created Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker, also created Dead Set which is available on Netflix.

Worth watching, a miniseries about the people cut off in a Big Brother reality tv house while the rest of the world is being destroyed by zombies.

And I thought the first episode of Black Mirror was one of the best.

I think the message is good if you think about it, but a lot of people will be put off by and unable to get past the premise

Very difficult to discuss without spoilers

If by first episode you mean "National Anthem" - I thought it was a really good one. The "Waldo" episode had me wretch.

Wow. I'm glad Dead Set finally made it to Netflix. I recorded off BBC America years and years ago and have the DVD. A pretty decent zombie story.

Oh, it was good. It drew out a lot of negative emotions from me that is for sure. So much it took me a couple times to make it through it.

But, yes, very well done.

My wife is always watching some weird movies that I would never watch but she found one that she said I would really like if I watched it but wouldn't tell me anything other than this guy takes a girl home for a one night stand and craziness happens. It's called Night Owls and I ended up liking it so much I am considering starting an NCAA dynasty with the fictional team from the movie. It ended up being pretty decent overall.

Good successor, fun, goofy, almost as good as the last one, but like in a 4.5 out of 5 stars way.

Oh my goodness. Watch the documentary about GLOW.
GLOW: the gorgeous ladies of wrestling. Outstanding.
The stuff the pulled is amazing. Just watch it.

Also, started watching Norsemen. A great new comedy about Vikings.

If any of you liked Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil, then check out Little Evil, the new Netflix original film. Same writer/director, and at least as good. I really like his style thus far and hope he makes more movies without waiting 7 years in between.

It's another horror/comedy hybrid with emphasis on comedy but also has some family elements and is one of the best Netflix movies so far, IMO.

The one on Ruby Ridge is great too. Maybe even a good primer for the Oklahoma City one since you see what sort of set McVeigh and others on this path. Learned a lot and felt it was incredibly even-handed.

Oh yeah, it goes from good to arguably the best thing Netflix has done pretty quickly and has stayed that way for a couple of seasons now.

Have to disagree.

I wanted to like it as much as Tucker and Dale, but it wasn't funny and it wasn't scary.

Meh.

Watched the 1st season of Disjointed.

This stars Kathy Bates as an old pot activist that owns a legal wed shop.

There some stereotypes. But there some not so subtle story lines about how pot is beneficial.

Also, there are some scenes that are antimated that are trippy.

I enjoyed the show. Had some great moments.

Mindhunters starts slow but is good. Hurt by the fact that the cast is really bad. Maybe they didn't have the budget to bring in quality actors.

The narrative around Fincher is that he's a meticulous control freak who will often require 50 takes per scene, so I'd imagine that it's likely whatever you're picking up on was intended to be that way, for whatever that's worth.

I do agree that there've been a few scenes where the dialog didn't fly for me (most of the times they delve into the tangential intellectual/philosophical discussions of the girlfriend/academics feels forced & clunky), but I dunno if that's the result of the actors or just the dialog itself.

Wasn't bothered by the acting. Kinda felt fitting for the flawed/intense characters on the part of the main actors and the killers were excellent, imo.

I really liked the Unit Chief, very Tommy Lee Jonesian vibe there. I also kinda did like Ford own disturbed and disturbing demeanor being depicted very understated, especially compared to sth like True Detective.

My main gripe was that the show did a poor job at balancing the two sets of "stakes" (real world application of findings and academic value), imo the uninitiated has little way of grasping what is actually happening in the subtext in terms of content as well as behavior. Might be more obvious for you guys in the US and i kinda got most of it, but know quite a few people who were utterly irritated by a few things that felt random (like the internal struggle within the FBI or the issue with language).
I realise that not doing much exposure is par for the course nowadays for these kind of shows, but not sure it works here. Also thought the show was a bit too eager to double down on cliché with regard to the different groupings of people and the inside/outside aspect of things. Things became really forced/rushed and weak towards the end as well and not in a "let's advance the plot" kind of way.

Still a pretty good show with tons of promise going forward and definitely worth watching. I really liked the amount of time given to the interviews and also the "current" cases to start things off, although again it's just tough for a show today to convey the meaningfulness of these (it did seem kind of banal at times).

What i really, really loved was the way the show brought the setting (70s and the localities) to live and the little intro scenes making for a seperate story are sth i am not entirely sure i have seen done in that way before.

I'll give it credit for being different too. Lot of shows seem to follow the same formula and have the same rhythm.

I've also found it's not as easy a show to binge which I think is good. Netflix shows have gotten too used to using the cliffhanger on every episode so you'll binge to the next. Nice to have a show where you can watch an episode and let it ruminate for a bit.

Thoughts on Stranger Things season 2?

I'm really impressed by Millie Bobby Brown. Nailing that character seems like it would be really hard to do but she's pitch perfect for it. The kid playing Mikey is just annoying at this point. The various additions to the cast all seem to fit perfectly.

Really liked Mindhunter. Though it seemed to tail off at the end of the season.

Im not looking at anything Stranger Things season 2 yet.

I just started Space Race. It is a BBC production that follows the space race starting during WW2.
It is a docudrama, but has footage from sources like the soviet union.
Really good so far.

Stranger Things 2 > Stranger Things 1.

Pretty amazing considering how well received the first season was. Astin and Reiser were excellent additions. The kid playing Mikey got annoying this time around. Otherwise, they expanded on the concept well but I'm hoping the hint towards the 3rd season was a misdirection as they'll need something new.

Mindhunter, to me was really good. I really liked the show and look forward to what they will/can do with next season. I also liked that I didn't know any of the actors so I didnt type-cast them ahead of time.

I found myself reading up on the criminals and the agents outside of each episode as it all is very interesting. Might buy the book the show is based on. Dr. Carr (Anna Torv) isnt bad too look at either.

I got my girlfriend to binge the last 8 episodes this weekend, which was pretty impressive, but mostly thanks to a shitbox friday weather-wise, we did 4 of those episodes. She isnt much for binging or sitting still for 3 hours like that.

Also, started Stranger Things Season 2 last night.

Agreed. I liked it, though it does leave a lot of background out. Probably could've made feature length fairly easily.

I had the same thought. I was also curious about the timing of some of the pulled footage and interviews from the DA's side of things. No interviews after release.

Watching The Dark Charisma of Adoph Hitler: Leading Millions into the Abyss.

I have always been curious how Hitler was able to do what he did. I had some ideas. I know the situation of the country a little.
But always wondered what really made it possible.

This is pretty good and made by BBC. It really doesnt do exactly what I want, but it is interesting none the less.

William L. Shirer. Start with The Rise and Fall of Adolf Hitler, which is short, written for a younger audience, and provides a good basic overview. Then tackle The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, which is *still* considered a masterpiece on the subject and over 50 years later, still cited as a source in academia. I haven't read any of his fiction, but all his non-fiction stuff is fantastic. And he actually lived in Berlin while Hitler was coming to power, and attended some of his rallies.

Watching Space Race A series about the space race. Starts during WW2.

I think I may have mentioned this earlier, but cant remember. But itis outstanding. It is a docudrama I guess. Actors portraying the main players as they try and get to space.

It is fantastic. If space is your thing, you should be watching this.
