You are never out of it if you have a truly world class player in your team. Also see Suarez v England and Messi v Iran.

Why don't we understand the concept of kicking the ball to the corner late. Fucking Bradley just giving the ball up for no reason at all.

Well, the original plan was to come in, beat Ghana, and somehow tie Portugal and get out on a Tiebreaker.....

So, hey, the plan worked I suppose.

US still in good shape with GD. They'll get through, but it would have been much nicer to have just grabbed the 3 pts today.

Win or tie against Germany, tie for Ghana/Portugal, have a better goal differential than Portugal or Ghana if we lose

Win or draw or Portugal/Ghana draw to advance.

Lose and have a better GD than the Portugal/Ghana winner.

I just worry about our ability to tie Germany or keep it close unless there's some trickiness. It looks like our best soccer is when we're attacking. When trying to defend, we're a bit of a sieve.

Why?

It really had nothing to do with Portugal's goal. Ronaldo produced a ball that nobody was going to stop if someone got on the end of it.

Have there been "wink wink nudge nudge lets just tie"type games with the situation where both teams advance with a tie, such as it is with the US and Germany? It seems like the commentators keep hinting about it.

Bradley needs to sit the next game. That's something you learn at 12 or 13 years old to not get caught in possession in that situation. Combined with the wide open goal he missed in the first half...

Ugh.

Shitty shitty defending was the story of this one.

They didn't look good on crosses all night. That first goal was obviously pathetic. And on the last goal there is absolutely NO way, especially after bringing in Gonzalez, and the ball coming from that far down the field to CR7, that Varela should have had a free header in the box. He was the ONLY guy making the run - he should have been fucking BRACKETED by 2 DC's. If I'm Tim Howard I'm shanking Gonzalez and Cameron in their fucking sleep tonight.

That being said - I'm sure Klinsy still has Low's cellphone - they both just need a draw...perhaps they'll just kick the ball around the back for 90 mins?

Yeah. That's the reason they started playing the final games of the group stage simultaneously. West Germany and Austria fixed a result in the 1982 World Cup that allowed both teams to advance.

If Cameron clears properly, horrible goal is not given up also.

Feels as though this match was a waste, seeing how the US gutted it out.

Denmark v Sweden at the Euro Championships. The game had to finish 2-2 for them both to go through and Italy go out. Surprisingly it ended 2-2.

If Ghana and US end up tied, does the US go through based on the fact that we beat them head to head, or is it strictly goal differential?

Not quite as good as a draw between Ghana and Portugal, but it would likely see the US through.

Strictly goal differential. 2nd tiebreaker is goals scored, 3rd is head to head.
