Thuurrsday at 9 I believe ROH Rise Against is onInDemand. It costs between ten and fiften bucks and is the best wrestling PPV you will probably see this year. Morishima vs Danielson is a WAR. If you can check it out its defintely worth the money.

RIP, Playboy Gary Hart. He was one of the old school Wrestling managers that brought the old World Class Championship Wrestling and the "World Famous Sportatorium" onto the national scene.

Oopsie.
No sooner do I read a little blip online about the WWE warning their roster to not be seen in public associating with any of the TNA roster than we get a crowd shot of some of the "celebrities" in the crowd for the first live Impact, starting with someone identified as "Derek Graham-Couch". Okay, I drew a blank, but we would know him (at least slightly) better as Robbie McAlister of The Highlanders. Kind of rough to do that to a guy. Meanwhile, just saw Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya in the crowd.

This TNA live show is pretty tough to watch. Booker T looks good but the matches have been average and that Karen Angle interview was PAINFUL.

Yeah, they aren't handling this particularly well. Thought it was interesting to note earlier that more votes had been cast on the women's title shot than on the Roode/Booker stipulation. That follows a trend of the women's division providing the highest rated segment of the show ever since Kong showed up.

Is Wrestlemania worth a view this year?
I didn't watch last year, as in my opinion, no "must see" matches. |

I'm not a wrestling fan anymore but I do plan on getting Wrestlemania (IF Comcast every posts it as available to buy) for the Big Show/Giant vs. Mayweather. I know its a gimmick but I'm curious to see Floyd in the ring.

Just ordered WM for the first time in my life.
Strictly a Flair thing for me, although my son wanted to see the MITB as well.

Well, I've forked over the $55+change for this year's Wrestlemania.
Interesting to see the gimmick match: Show/Mayweather, although I think this might end in a DQ. No way Mayweather risks his boxing career. MITB Ladder matches are always fun to watch, to bad Jeff Hardy f'ed up on the wellness policy, he'd pull off a 30ft high ladder move or some other crazy stunt. Jericho wins this match though. Triple threat match: HHH will become the new champion. I'm tired of Orton and Cena. HHH as champion is a much better fit. Flair/HBK Shawn Michaels: I expect a classic matchup. HBK wins. Edge/Undertaker: Vince will go with the dragonslayer, give UT 1 last title run. UT decides if his streak goes on or ends, Vince allows the streak to go on. Interesting note though: UT is on the Backlash poster, ppv after WM. Bastista/Umaga: DQ finish. To easy to predict. There are other matches, but I only predicted the popular ones. That would make for a very nice Bunny match, we would get: wet t-shirt contest. Don't think it'll rain though. Last edited by tucker rocky : 03-30-2008 at 05:54 PM. |

from pwinsider.com a few minutes ago
Lee Petry and Mike Johnson just sent word from Orlando that it's currently drizzling at the Citrus Bowl. The AccuWeather forecast still calls for rain in the 7 o'clock hour and clearing thereafter. That was from 4:45pm. At 5:30 Dave Scherer posted that the sun had come back out.

Because he's a foreigner? (seriously, I have no idea why other than it's part of Regal's character that he occasionally talks funny)

For those watching, how's the outdoor setting working? Any weather? Is crowd noise coming across OK?

I used the because I didn't see the one with the tears.
3rd superkick was the charm for HBK & a tearful Ric Flair is done. Although in wrestling I suppose no retirement is ever truly final.

Outdoor setting has been largely neutral IMO, at least for those watching at home. Apparently, according to the dirt sheets, there's quite a bit of obstructed view for those in the arena because of the various rigging for the stage, lights, canopy over the ring, etc.
And the "lights out" reference up the thread was about a sudden problem of some sort that sent the ring area totally black for maybe 10-15 seconds because some secondary lights kicked in. You could see in the darkness that the divas basically kept working right through it & didn't miss a spot. As DeTox said, that was pretty darned impressive considering who was in the ring at the time, very professional reaction on their part.

I won't lie. Undertakers entrance in this venue will be AMAZING.
UT/Edge will be closing the show it seems as Cena/Orton/HHH is up now. Show/Mayweather is after. |

According to PWTorch, HHH had to get involved planning Show vs Mayweather as Floyd isn't grasping a worked match.

I'm looking at two sites for results. One has Flair/Michaels as five-stars, the other says it wasn't anywhere near what was hoped for. Thoughts?

Loved it. It was as perfectly booked, plus I think HBK cracked or broke ribs early on a botched moonsault spot. Table didn't break the right way at all. It was an amazing wrestling match though. The story unfolded perfectly. |

Cool.
When Flair explained that he wanted to do the job because it made sense for business and there was no point worrying about who won or lost in a worked sport, do you think Michaels' head exploded?

Good question, I watched it & I'm still not sure what I'd call it. Plenty of near falls, no lack of effort or drama, some good storytelling, the obligatory spots were hit and some extra ones too (a darned good missed moonsault by HBK right through the announcer's table). But it wasn't Flair/Steamboat by any remote stretch of the imagination either. I think expectations (or fondest hopes) were too high for this. I'd probably say all the drama might kick it up to a 4-star if I let my emotions kick in but realistically right now I'd say it was 3.5 if it were anyone other than Flair. edit to add: After reading DeTox's comments, I'm brought back to something I was pondering a little while typing my own reply. I'm not sure how in the hell star ratings really apply to matches anymore given the dramatic difference in match styles today. I mean trying to compare this match to a Danielson or Morishima match or this weekend's Dragon's Gate guys at ROH in Orlando ... it's barely the same thing. Maybe all you can fairly do is grade them on what they wanted to accomplish or tried to accomplish. If I take that approach then this was easily a 4-star, maybe 4.5. I can't give a 5-star simply because I never really had any doubt about how it was going to end, and without that I don't think you can really get to perfection.

Yeah, certainly no reason to expect Savage/Steamboat when one guy is pushing 60 years old. But this was one of those matches that could have been punches and kicks if the story and fan response made it seem special. Did it feel like a big deal?

Like one of the two biggest matches in the history of modern professional wrestling. And only "one of" because I'll grudgingly acknowledge the importance of Andre-Hogan.

Since I gather all bets are off as far as spoilers are concerned ... Orton steals a pin & retains.
Pedigree on Cena by Trips, Orton comes in with a kick to the head & falls on top of Cena for the win. Meanwhile, is showing Undertaker in the promo for Backlash the best move in terms of not telegraphing the end of tonight's main event?

Orton going over is a smart move. If they play it out, they can have a decent Cena vs. HHH fued for the title shot, and make some money at Summerslam.
Explains why the match was on so early. What's left, just Mayweather and Undertaker/Edge?

My personal favorite matches that are "5 star" are ones with great stories. Dragons Gate Six Mans are amazing, but not the best stories. My personal favorites that I deem five star had amazing stories. HBK vs UT - first HIAC, Benoit vs HBK vs HHH, Angle vs HBK I, Punk vs Joe II and III, etc. |

I really hope Mayweather decides to try to shoot & Wight ends his career.
