WTF is Mayweather wearing? It looks like he's wearing Big Show's trunks.

It is crazy how tiny Mayweather looks compared to show. I love the fact Shows trying to break Floyds hands.

The manager "he can't be doing dat" is classic stuff ... although I'm not entirely sure how much of it is unintentional comedy.

Chair shots + brass knucks equal KO for Mayweather.
And now I scratch my head, wondering why you sacrifice a wrestler who was actually over with the crowd in order to give a one-off celebrity a win. Let's face it, the WWE doesn't exactly have all that many people who are really over right now, they might have actually been able to do something with Show for a while off this.

Posters and promos have proven to be a VERY poor predictor of that show's main event. It isn't uncommon for a guy to be featured in an early ppv poster/promo and he doesn't even end up on the event. |

BTW Jon, I thought it actually prestaged a Undertaker LOSS in tonight's main event... "For every loss.. there is a BACKLASH". (IE, the UT loses tonight, rematch at Backlash)

Thing I can't figure out with the Cena haters is why they wanted HHH over Cena. I mean, if the Cena hate is for a relatively limited moveset & a bad gimmick shouldn't there also be hate from the same contingent for Trips stroke being greater than his skill set?
FTR, I'm reasonably neutral on Cena & don't have major hate for HHH either, just saying I'm not sure how one gets perceived better than the other.

I just think it's an internet wrestling "hipster" thing. People think they're cool by disliking him, because they perceive Cena as being shoved down their throat, when in reality, he actually deserves to be. He has the most charisma since the Rock, imo. On the mic, there's currently no one better in the WWE (other than the old stand-bys like HH, HBK, Flair, and maybe Kennedy).

This should have been quite a bit down the card, they've even managed to kill the crowd.
Classic bad card layout, all the emotion was early, the crowd is burned out at this point.

One thing I've enjoyed tonight is the improved pickup by the in-ring mics.

Wrestlemania really has become just a spectacle and not much else. Other than Flair's match, nothing is settled, nothing is changed, nobody is elevated and there'll be a rematch of every important match by tomorrow or the next PPV.

His time needs to come to an end. I am beyond tired of him. I'm not saying that others are dumb for liking him, but I just can't stand him. Never have.

Every year I think "this is the last year they can get away with putting on a Backlash PPV that's the exact same lineup as Wrestlemania", and every year I'm wrong.

I knew in the back of my mind Edge would lose because, he had always escape the wrath of UT. All of Edge's associates had been put in UT's submission hold, which UT used to win. By watching the build-up to this match, I just knew UT winning was a can't miss, dead-on prediction.

Just got back from the Nats home opener - never heard a crowd louder in my life than after Zim's walkoff -WOW. Anyway...
First thing I did when I got home was turn on the DVR and FF to the Flair match. I've been a Flair mark for 30 years and knew this day would come. It has been kinda sad watching Flair in the ring for a few years now, but when he needs to bring it, he brings it. You gotta figure of all the people he could hand pick for his final match, it would've been Michaels, and tonight showed why. Just an amazing match from beginning to end absolutely overflowing with psychology, emotion, and history. Taken in a vacuum, as mentioned before, the match wasn't one of the best matches of all time by a long shot. But JimGA has is exactly right - in context it was amazing. That's what's so cool (to me anyway) about pro-wrestling. You take a physical event and it's multiplied in significance and impact by the ability of the wrestlers to tell a story. No one has ever been better at it than Ric Flair, and he told his life story in the ring tonight. My favorite moment was Flair coming off the top rope and finally connecting - how cool was that?!? Sean Michaels was the perfect opponent and it all came together on the biggest stage in wrestling history. I would have loved to see Arn Anderson somewhere close by (Blanchard and Dillon too for that matter - what a moment that would have been, the 4 Horsemen run out to save Flair's career and he waves them off?) but otherwise it was wrestling perfection. Rather, sports-entertainment perfection. And that's good enough for me. Five stars in my book, easy. |

You're kidding, right? The whole reason that the crowd hates him so much is because of his LOUSY mic work and terrible gimmick, all the while he was being pushed to the moon. I mean, for 1-2 years all he did as a face was come out, do some cheesy rap about sexual organs / farts / being gay, and then would win the match. That's great for my 4 year old son who just loves fart jokes, but for the 18-30 year old male demographic that's booing, we come to expect more from a wrestler than that. Sure, he's abandoned that gimmick (and then took on an equally cheesy patriot gimmick ... SALUTE!) but I think the only thing that could wipe that from people's minds is a full heel turn. Everybody but 13 year old girls are booing him anyways so why not do it? |

I don't think we're watching the same Cena, because I totally and utterly disagree. Maybe I'm not cool enough, and should spend more time on wrestling messageboards so that I can "learn" what is good and bad. Until then, I'll judge for myself. I will say one thing: Turning him heel would be a great idea. I think all of the enlightened experts in the crowd booing him would be so confused, that their heads would explode.

But that goes right back to my comment about HHH, who also had a lousy history, but maybe as someone pointed out today's crowds just have short memories. Personally I see quite a bit of improvement over the admittedly horrendous early Cena. He's still not a guy I'd pay to see but he's not so bad now that he forces me to change the channel either.

Have you seen his PPV main events over the last 18 months or so? He really has turned a corner. It started with his feud with Edge, when he was getting horrible fan reactions, and the obvious move would have been to turn him heel. And in reality, he WAS a heel at that time based on fan reaction. The boos were acknowledged and incorporated into his character. His character, despite what the internet will tell you, has continued to evolve over the years. But after those great matches with Edge, Umaga, Michaels, etc, the crowd came back. Did you hear his pop at MSG at the Royal Rumble? It's no longer accurate that "everyone boos him except 12 year olds". Last edited by molson : 03-31-2008 at 09:14 AM. |

That was such a bizarre moment -- the crowd popping huge until they remembered they're supposed to be cool and boo him.
