Well I'm glad that over with. I'm tired and I don't think I could handle another (insert anything successful done by the Giants here). You guys have already had more than your fair share in recent memory. Move on.

Boy, the Cueto honeymoon is officially over. Ever since his comment before the Boston start where he was dumb enough to start talking about wanting to play in Boston next year, his pitching has gone to shit. He's also missed a couple public appearances. It's just two things that are totally contrary to the KC-first, fan-focused players that we've grown to love in this city. He's not doing himself any favors and the fact that he's suddenly a terrible starter too has only made it far worse. He's lucky today's start was on the road.

They've used 36 pitchers so far, the record is 37 by the Rangers last year.
They've used 59 players so far, the record is 60 by those same Rangers.

Braves haven't lost 100 (or more) since 1988 when they dropped 106.
To avoid that they have to win at least 7 of their last 18.
Their most recent 7 wins have required 35 games to get.

Please. You rented a mercenary that everyone know will be somewhere different next season. If he was pitching well you wouldn't give a damn that he isn't starring in commercials for the tourist board.

I hope the next three games are as entertaining as this one was. The starters both were excellent, then the Rangers score 2 in the bottom of the 8th, the Astros get their leadoff runner on in the top of the 9th, but a double play then a strikeout end the game.

Will be interesting to see if tonight may be the last straw for Holland and his stint as closer. There's definitely something wrong with him. Davis needs to be the closer for the post season.

The fans are getting their money's worth this series. The Rangers and Astros looked destined for a high scoring shootout. The score was 4-3 Rangers after two. The pitchers settled in, and it was 5-5 going into the 9th. Altuve got on for the Astros, but after a couple of fielder's choices, they couldn't make anything of it. In the bottom of the ninth, Prince Fielder singled, and then was subbed for a pinch runner. Beltre singled, and it was runners on 1st and 3rd nobody out for Mitch Moreland. Moreland flied out to center, but the throw in was off target and the Rangers win on the walk off sacrifice.

Matt Duffy, the Giants' rookie third baseman, wrote an article for The Players' Tribune. You can find it here, and it is well worth the read.

That was a pretty good read until he got to the Casey McGehee part.

Then it became a damned good read.

From the what section of the Texas Rangers...

"I don't consider it an experiment," Banister said. "With Mike Napoli playing in the outfield, the reward is on the offensive side. We are going to continue to have Mike work and be out there. My guess is the more he plays, the more confident he'll be."

Um? I know he has hit a few HRs but wasn't he hitting under .200 in Boston this year?

Yeah, but he's been batting over .270 with an OPS of .850 since coming back to the Rangers.

Hey, if you could try to keep your game write-ups Royals focused, I think we'd all appreciate it.

48 ABs with Texas and 1 RBI in our last 20 games my fellow Rangers fan... not ready to declare him the best option right now.

yeah, but it is an improvement over the numbers he had in Boston. He was hitting better for the Red Sox after the all-star break.

I have a feeling that the Astros are going to get a comfortable win tonight. Keuchel on the mound for the Astros and the Rangers likely suffering a hangover.

Or, maybe not. The Rangers tag Keuchel for 6 runs in the 1st, with Napoli and Odor homering.

He's been hitting fine since the beginning of July, but also if you're platooning him, he's been crushing lefties all year (.269/.376/.560). Even when struggling vs. righties (.191/.286/.325).

Goes in low, cleats are down, looks like it's in the base path. Word is, even the Pirates announcers acknowledged it was a clean, hard slide.

1-the Pirates have garbage announcers, especially if John Wehner said it was clean

Seeing as how he's about 5 feet to the left of the bag, I'd say expecting him to jump to the side is stupid

You see that exact slide a million times a season in that situation. Guy got hurt this time. It happens. It's not dirty. Hell, at least his hand was still close enough to the bag - I've seen guys slide nowhere near the bag to break up a double play.

Not a thing wrong with that slide, runner could touch the base and is doing his job to break up the double play. If he can't touch the base then it's a bad play. It is the infielders responsibility to avoid a runner that is performing a legal slide. If he wants to be brave and take the hit for the out that is his choice.

I don't think it's 100% clean - Coghlan does leave his feet late and never would've stayed on the bag - but I've seen a ton of worse ones nobody ever mentions because the plant leg doesn't get caught.

I do wonder if MLB will crack down on this this offseason (similar to "blocking the plate" by cacthers), and if the unwritten rules in Korea are different re: "hard" slides to break up DP's.
