That seals it. Mexico will go on to the knockout stages.

havenīt seen much of the croatia-mexico game, but i did make that claim Part of it is the placement, the "inner box" (5 meter area) is the no-go-area where he is basically deemed untouchable with or without the ball. Outside of it, he canīt be blocked/tackled once he touches the ball (so if he has the ball and gets pushed, then looses the ball it is a foul)
At least that is my understanding of the rule.

well done, mexico !

Thanks. There was one where it was in the inner box, but it didn't result in a goal or anything. It just made me think back to the Ollic foul in the Brazil game. Depends on the ref too I guess, as this guy has let some rougher stuff go a bit on both sides.

The ESPN Radio announcer (Irish, I believe) is very excited after each of the Mexico goals. It's very entertaining.

Wonder if Mexico and Brazil know the other result. Just one goal for Mexico to win the group and avoid the Netherlands. Not that Chile is an easy draw, mind you.

And that would basically reverse the Chile-Dutch game. Chile would have won by losing and dodging BRazil if Kmexico upends them here

All of a sudden Mexico is 1 goal by them or Cameroon away from winning the group... Wait no, Brasil added another.

(Re: the goalie, it also depends on who initiates the contact and if the offensive guy gets the ball. Anything close will go in the goalie's favor, but if the offensive player jumps straight up and is trying to head the ball and the goalie jumps into him, that shouldn't be a foul. Or could even be one on the goalie.)

Probably one of the few people celebrating the Croatia goal, one of my friends was waiting on "Mexico win/Both teams score" as the last bet to win him a few thousand.

Chile must be thrilled to play Brazil again, after how their last two world cup trips went: 3-0 loss in 2010 and 4-1 loss in 1998, both in the second round against Brazil.

I like this response from Jurgen about Thursday's game:

"Kurtis Larson

Klinsmann asked about collusion with GER: "The US is known to give all they have in every single game, otherwise Mexico wouldn't be here.""

If Italy advances, they won't have Balotelli in the first knockout game.

Can't stand that team. Of course, they're just continuing the fine tradition of laying down that was started by their army.

Listening to the match on ESPN Radio, and as usual, Tommy Smith is a bit of a tough listen. But I would love to see ESPN say, okay, Tommy, you do a Sportscenter all by yourself for one night. I would laugh my ass off hearing Smith do baseball highlights.

Italy need to bring Balotelli off at half time or they are going to be playing with 10 at some point. Might as well see how your team will look without him in the next round anyway

The Italians don't even try to sell their flopping any more. It's just, "I'd like to take a roll on the pitch for a minute or two" and then they're back. At least the rest of the world gives you a couple of pained expressions and sometimes a call for the stretcher.

I think if you are Italy, you have to sub Balotelli at the half. Can't afford to take a chance to play with only 10, plus you might as well get his replacement some action, since he won't play in the next game if they advance.

I'm listening rather than watching. Is Balotelli playing like he's gunning for another card? If so, I agree, take him off. If not, if he has eased up to avoid the second card, why take him off for a worse player in essentially an elimination match?

If you are Italy, a tie is as good as a win. With Balotelli, if he is in a funk, no telling what he will do. And past history shows that when he's gotten a yellow and done lots of acting on injuries, nothing good comes from it. They need 11 on the field more than they do a scoring threat.

Considering he deliberately handballed about 10 minutes later because he was frustrated a high ball didn't come down for him, yeah I think he's a risk to get another one. Plus it's Balotelli, who they hell knows what he's going to do.
