Aren't the Mets 29-23?

Good for Mets fans. The umpiring in baseball is bloody awful (seriously, the chalk?), but after 50 years, Mets fans deserve a no-hitter, and its awesome that Santana is the guy who did it.

Apparently a fan ran out on the field after the final out and was trying to join the mob. I saw a Gary Carter jersey and I'm like "wait, what?" And then I see the security dudes taking him down.

Not sure the fine would be worth it.

Dola

That Baxter catch was so damn clutch.

Also, watching these highlights..a lot of balls got out of the infield. This wasn't one of those no-hitters where nothing was close. (The blown call nothwitstanding...which was also close.) It was a real team effort tonight with a ton of close calls that on a normal night fall for hits. The Cards certainly had no intentions of making it easy on him. The defense was outstanding.

But replay is stupid and we need the human element. Far be it from the ump to look a few feet in front of him at the line. Other than that, pretty solid no-no and he worked hard for it.

Just thought we could revisit this. Not a lot of Cardinal fan chatter lately.

Surely when (IF?) Rolen returns, this golden age of the Reds season will end. But the Bucs are on the verge of taking over 2nd place, which pleases me.

I love him, but Rolen needs to stay far away from this lineup. Its still not where it needs to be and he only makes it worse. He was such a black hole at #4.

Shit happens. It's lovely when its the Cards.

Shit shouldn't happen though.. get the calls right. Instant replay can be a friend if you use it wisely.

Doesn't change the outcome, but doesn't mean it was a no-no either.

What's there to chatter about, we are 2.5 games out.. big deal. Half of our team is injured, nothing to really worry about at this point.

So let's say this play got changed. How do you decide baserunner advancement? How many bases does Beltran get? An automatic double? Just to first? A triple? What if there was a runner on 1st? Two bases? Any chance he scores? Runner on 2nd? How many bases? Just one? Or do you let him score because it seems like he should have?

The Mets jeopardized Santana's surgically repaired elbow for 130 plus pitches so that he could throw a fake no hitter. Now when some dude finally throws a legit no-no, it won't matter.

I thought for a second that maybe one of the bullpen guys threw on a Carter jersey to honor him. But by the far the best part of all this was what I noticed during replay of the celebration...Kirk Neuwenheis with his arm wrapped around the guy.

Interesting Jayson Stark article. 2012 Ryan Braun is virtually identical so far to 2011 Ryan Braun:

Begging the question, what PED?

If I'm that guy, fines and arrest and all..that was probably worth it. Not me doing it, but for the whole "was it worth it for that silly fool to be so silly.." at least he got to genuinely celebrate with them before the takedown.

Not surprisingly, he was arrested. The NYPD tells us that two individuals were arrested at CitiField last night: Raphel Diaz, 32, of Massapequa and John Ries, 25, of Ronkokoma. Both were charged with interfering with a sporting event (there's no information about which is the one was in the huddle).
The city's law prohibiting interfering with sporting events is thanks to fashion designer Calvin Klein, who famously got up from his courtside seat at Madison Square Garden to talk to Latrell Sprewell during a Knicks game in 2003.
When CitiField opened in 2009, a man wearing a thong—and a stuffed animal monkey— ran onto the field. 0

Craig Coakley was arrested (though his base running was lauded by the Post), fined $3,000 and sentenced to 20 days of community service—and banned FOR LIFE from City Field, Key Span Park, and any other Mets venue. So, Raphael and John—hope it was worth it!

"Hey wanna go to the game tonight?" Nah, I can't. I'm banned for life."

I imagine if you were banned, it'd probably be able to flout the ban (save for season tickets, how would they know who you were? You could just someone else's credit card to get tickets or go with a friend) under the guise that no one who'd ran on the field once would ever do it twice. Right?

Can someone explain to me the change, if there is any, in the catchers indifference or fielders indifference rule this year? Last night Rajai Davis took 2nd unopposed in the 9th inning and Buck Martinez mentioned that the indifference rule is gone this year and those will all be credited as steals, yet today I noticed a couple of times guys moving up and it being called indifference. I'm perplexed.

Everyone gets 2 bases, similar to a ground rule double.

The boy and I just got back from the Rainiers game. Manny was there, but not in the lineup. Kaden still thought it was amazing to see him in person. He's obviously at the end of the line, but he seems to just enjoy being around baseball. He was out early talking with players from both teams. Chatting with fans a bit. There was an elementary school class that did the national anthem and Manny went to the top of the dugout steps to shake hands with each kid as they were led off the field. He was basically talking and shaking hands with anyone out there.

Oliver Perez pitched in relief. As a Mets fan it was odd watching him pitching in AAA out of the bullpen.

In all it was another great experience at that ballpark. Last year Kaden was able to see Willy Mo Pena. This game he was able to see guys like Manny and Oliver Perez along with prospects like Trayvon Robinson, Derek Norris, Chris Carter, Grant Green, and Michael Taylor.

Pirates make a couple of significant minor league moves.

C Tony Sanchez promoted to AAA yesterday. He was the guy that they took #4 overall, somewhat surprisingly, due to sign ability a few drafts back (as an overall strategy that allowed them to draft and pay overslot to a number of prep players in later rounds). He was supposed to be a catcher with ready-made, big league defense and good power potential. He has demonstrated neither and began the season repeating AA, but had a recent hot streak (although 0 homers on the year) and "earned" the promotion.

More significantly, the team announced that Stetson Allie (who they took with the #1 pick in the 2nd round two seasons ago) is moving from pitcher to 3B. He got a $2.25M signing bonus due to his velocity, but his control has been horrendous. Now he is a 21-year old that hasn't played the field/hit since high school. Looks like another spectacular draft dud from the Bucs.

Allie was a pretty highly regarded as a hitter. He couldn't throw strikes, he was basically going to be Kenny Powers without the success. Talk is that he instantly becomes our best or second best power hitting prospect.

Hell, may as well try a reverse Van Benschotten. Or would it be a Ban Venschotten?

I don't blame them. The Pirates were going for upside after the Littlefield / Bonifay era, and those are the risks. That being said, for all the money they spent, the actual draft talent has not been that great.

Looks like A Shortstop Alen Henson is breaking out in a big way. I'm interested to see if Heredia does anything this year.

Cole will probably go to AA soon, but Taillon has leveled off of late.

Henson looks like he's ready to move up. Supposedly not good enough defensively to stick at SS, but could be a 2B with good pop.

Cole is ready. Haven't heard if they are letting Taillon use his junk yet (they apparently like to force these guys to use their fastball until they master it, I guess).

I'm guessing Heredia will get to join the short season guys in Altoona in a few more weeks. Still ridiculously young. Won't be 18 until mid-August.

The Pirates have 6.9M before they pay a penalty. I'm guessing you tell Appel to get fucked if he wants much more than 5 million. Then we load up in cheaper demand guys and possibly intentionally kick the 2nd and 3rd rounders into next year if they want more than a couple hundred grand?
