Manning was perfect. The rest of the team sucked.

Peyton Manning is God. It is time you guys understand that.

I mean it.

Not sure if this is just a local market thing but seems like 3 out of every 4 ads on ESPN right now is a foreclosure referral service. When did NFL fans become ten times as likely to be behind on their mortgage? If I'm watching Sportscenter at this time I don't see any of this shit. Paging JiMGA...

RGIII is going to be a great QB. He's even good off the field. Really excited to see him in action this year. QB Foles looked really impressive for Philly.

That sounds like your local breaks. Possible that it's national & they simply sunk their money into a high dollar buy trying to make a splash, but just off hand I'd guess it's local.

Is there any easy way to tell a local buy, other than obvious ones(shit production value, local area code)

A note from the Falcons exhibition opener against the Ravens
Second-year man Akeem Dent, slated to replace Curtis Lofton at middle linebacker, left the game with a concussion with 9:38 left in the second quarter. He was covering a punt when he was injured.

Is it really a good idea to have your brand new starting MLB, where your ranks are already particularly thin, covering punts in the exhibition opener? Or is that as dumb as I think it is?

You hit the obvious already, could probably add "regional advertiser" to the list (i.e. something like a regional grocery chain that is unlikely to bite off on a full national buy & pay for wasted audience). Absent the obvious, the next best way to pick them out might be spot placement. Typically cable breaks are either network or local, with a few that are split. If a spot has an obvious local advertiser immediately before & after, it's almost certainly a local spot as well.

Another tip is something you're seeing on other cable networks frequently during the same week or month (especially if the audience on the other networks seems very different). It's pretty common for the local system to bundle a whole bunch of stuff together, spread it across a dozen networks at a time. Keep seeing that same spot over & over no matter what you're watching (and in places that don't seem to have much rhyme or reason) and odds are that's a local buy.

I'll take "as dumb as you think it is" for 200. You probably don't want your starting MLB covering punts in the regular season if you can help it, let alone in the second quarter of the first preseason game

In other significant injury news Mr Glass (aka Ryan Mathews) broke his clavicle and is out at least six weeks. More brilliance from AJ Smith - let the well liked and valuable backup walk and commit to a starter who can't stay on the field for more than 10 plays at a time. He makes personnel decisions like I pick checkout lines at the supermarket. Just a stunning history of being flat out wrong.

Quentin Coples looking really good in preseason. Absolutely dominating the last couple of series for the Jets

Also Eric Smith just got hurt covering a punt. So I guess maybe I'm way off on having starters doing special teams duty in preseason. Just seems strange to me - with so many guys trying to make the team why would you put your vets anywhere near those high risk situations

So yeah... Bengals are on NFLN, so it's blacked out in Lexington. Except the game's not on locally. Fuck black out rules.

Aside from 3 possible nightmare injuries for Cinci early in the game, they have looked excellent so far. Even Gradkowski managed to move the team some. Nice blocked punt right before halftime as well. I'm happy with what I have seen thus far.

Chad Johnson arrested

Johnson was arrested Saturday night for domestic violence, according to Davie Police Department captain Dale Engle.

According to a source the incident took place in a vehicle.

Johnson allegedly head-butted his new wife, Evelyn Lazado, during an argument.

Have to say I wouldn't expect that from Chad.. The details should be interesting. I guess this could be expected when he decided to marry a "Basketball Wife".

Yea, this is disappointing. I'm not a Bengals fan, but was obviously being near Cincinnati I like other local people were exposed to him a lot. And in even more so with Twitter and what not. Big fan of Chad Johnson. This is disappointing, but obviously we don't know these athletes personally. God damn it, Johnson.

Yeah, watching his QB camp with Gruden, I was sold on that guy. Knowledgable, humble and a winner. I hope he manages to have a good career.

As for Chad Johnson...I'm sure he'll be tweeting his side of the story before long. Or she'll call off the dogs, realizing that he's not nearly as useful if he gets released. In any case...

Chad Johnson Arrested for Domestic Violence | TMZ.com

Quote:
According to our sources, the fight started when Lozada found a receipt for condoms in the center of the couple's Maserati and confronted Johnson about it. A verbal argument ensued.

We're told at some point during the argument, Johnson head-butted Lozada. According to reports, Johnson told police he butted heads with Lozada by accident.

Johnson is reportedly still in custody and wil have to go before a judge before he can be released.

Johnson and Lozada were married last month in Miami after Johnson proposed in November 2010 with a massive 10-carat diamond ring.

8:45PM PT Johnson is still at the Davie, FL police station, but will eventually be transferred to a county jail facility. Authorities tell us he will remain in custody tonight, and since there are no bond judges scheduled to work on Sunday ... it's entirely possible Chad will be cooling off behind bars until Monday morning.

Bucs QB Josh Freeman transformed himself with a pretty serious weight loss program this off-season. Dropped 25 pounds (with probably about 2 or 3 lbs from his mini-curl/fro).

Get to see him in action Friday night at RJS. Thank God for footballl season!

Wasn't too impressed with the first TD pass, but that second TD pass and the drive preceding it were outstanding. Some really good stuff there, although it was against the Rams.

I've been curious to ask the opinion of you guys on the replacement refs...what do you all think? I know I can tell the difference not only in the calls but in the flow of the games...but I am a ref and watch the game different.

I just got back from my clinic today, and for those who don't know, my boss is a NFL referee. Let me tell you that they are laughing all the way to the bank after watching week 1 and this is doing nothing but strengthening their position with the NFL. There have been more mistakes in this week than most of the year combined.

I do personally know one of the replacement refs and he is a great guy who knows he would've never made the NFL but thought of this as his one shot at glory. In a way I feel really bad for them because of the pressure they are under, the immense speed of the game, the new rules, and having to cram years of training into months. And all these guys and gals know that once the lockout is over, they will be doing nothing but High School ball because all of the college assigners won't hire them back.

But for the most part these are guys who work FCS college and high school. I know there has been all this hype with the first female ref, but now that it's come out that she was involved in gambling (2007 World Series of Poker) the NFL is now scrambling to cover their tracks there. There is NO WAY she would have been allowed to do this had they known this beforehand.

So what do you all think?
