Gary Bettman is not choosing sides between Chicago or Detroit; he wins with either of those teams advancing.

He's not choosing between Chicago or Detroit, because whoever advances would eventually be embarrassed by Pittsburgh in the Finals, when the Pens receive 400 PPs per game.

Also, part of his plan was to eliminate the two biggest markets in Canada in round 1.

Some of those were ridicules...but....a lot of them he is going after the goalies stick, and for some reason the red wing announcers never seem to catch that.

Yes, without a doubt, some of those calls were legit, but many were not and most of those, if not all, involved far less interference than the goal that was called off last night.

These breaks between games are incredibly long. On another note, put a fork in the Rangers. They are done.

I am at a loss for words with the Wings. I never imagined them grinding out games like this, especially after becoming used to the star-power this team had in past years. One more win and it is on to the conference finals, something I couldn't even fathom when this season began.

"They've outplayed them in 4 out of 5 games" rings pretty hollow when you're down 3-2.

A little late with these, but Paul MacLean was fantastic in his last two pressers after the Pens took games 4 and 5 to clinch the series.

NBC announcers are killing the ref right now. I don't watch as many hockey broadcasts as basketball or football, but I'm definitely not used to seeing both studio analysts take a ref to task.

3-1.

Won opener, lost three in a row, won three in a row.
Both teams picked up one road win (game 2, game 6).

The Sharks opened the season with 7 straight wins, then went something like 3-23 in their next 26 games. If you believed the rumblings, McLellan had both feet out the door already. With their nice recovery and (let's be honest) overachieving playoff run, the rumblings had disappeared. I'm sure there will be rumors, but I'd be surprised if he was let go.

It was a nice run in the respect that Detroit did far better than expected and it offers hope for the future, but it still sucks. I guess I'm back to "anybody but the Pens."

Lost in the no goal controversy is a really dirty play by Shaw that injured Fillpula. When you watch it in slow-mo it's a clear slewfoot.

Also pretty amazing how Chicago going on to win dropped the shelf life of the story on Walkom's horrible call down to a few days from about 70 years if Detroit went on to win.

True this.

We will be treated to the least exciting conference finals possible, as far as I'm concerned. Sigh. Maybe I'll take the round off and pull for the West winner in the Finals.

The last four Cup winners all competing in the conference finals and you can't imagine a less exciting grouping of teams?

NHL officiating is at an all time low. There have so many blown/bad calls just in the Wings/Hawks series it is disgusting. The penalty shot that Frolik scored on, the non-call when Franzen was crosschecked in the back, the waived off goal last night, the obvious slewfoot from Shaw on Filppula. The list goes on and on.

I hope something changes but am not holding my breath.
