The original Captain Marvel was a man:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain...rvel_Comics%29 When I was a kid, I collected EVERYTHING related to Captain Marvel (the Marvel version, not Shazam). I loved the story, the art, everything. When I was 8 or 9, my parents went to a book store and found a thick Captain Marvel book, and not realizing what it really meant, they bought it for me as a stocking stuffer. It was called "The Death of Captain Marvel", and in it he died of cancer. Again, I think I was 8, and I was horrified. Threw the book in the fire, if I remember right. To this day, it's the only major Marvel character that has never been brought back to life. |

What are my options in terms of a character?

I believe either hero or villan. If you wanna go with power, I'd go with Franklin Richards, maybe the most powerful person in the Marvel multiverse; roleplaywise, he's a little kid. Rick Jones is a pretty good character, but no powers (unless you count when he got powers from the Supreme Intelligence or the Leader). |

If he allows for dead characters, the Molecule Man was pretty powerful, especially after Secret Wars. Yeah, I'm a geek... |

Owen Reece was nothing compared to the Beyonder (before he got neutered that is). Bah, Wolverine almost took the Molecule Man out in Secret Wars and Captain Marvel got through his force shield. Not only that but he was pussy whipped by Volcana. Now Death on the other hand...she had Thanos pussy whipped. Oh, and I think Thanos was a blatant ripoff of Darkseid. |

FULL Geek mode: I might be fuzzy on the details, but near the end of Secret Wars, Owen Reece's power got "unlocked" and instead of just controlling molecules of nonliving things, he had control of pretty much ALL molecules .. ie, he could, if he wanted, just disperse Wolverine by unlinking his molecules ... or turn him into a flower if he wanted. Now the character was a hugh wimp, so Wolvie could probably say "BOO!" and give the poor guy a heart attack, but his powers were nearly infinite. I think he was killed by the Beyonder in Secret Wars II. I agree with you totally about Thanos. Last edited by WVUFAN : 01-13-2007 at 12:17 AM. |

Talgian, we're full on players at the moment, so we'll sign you up as an alternate.
Golden Eagle, you can choose pretty much not already used character from the Marvel Comics universe, although we maintain veto power in case of something crazy. From a list hoops used, here are some characters already available along with descriptions. From hoopsguy: Venom - bad guy, absolutely obsessed with SpiderMan. Many similar qualities, but is more powerful than him and over the top cruel/evil. Dr. Doom - badass Fantastic Four villain. Ruler of a small country. Genius with a armored suit, like Iron Man. Total egomaniac. Totally power-hungry. Willing to take part of a team effort to further his own goals, but very much an individualist. Playing him in character as a good guy could be a lot of fun, I think. Grim Reaper - Avengers enemy with funky costume and a scythe as his main weapon. Can project energy blasts through the scythe. Former mob character who has become involved with the occult later in his career. Juggernaut - super strong and invulnerable, enemy of X-Man and half-brother of Professor X. Not the sharpest bulb, but how much does that matter when you can almost never be hurt? Vision - android, has power of intangibility, allowing himself to be transparent or tough as a diamond. Pretty strong, has a laser attack as well. Another smart guy. In many instances in comics he is emotionless. There is one guy on this list hoops and I really really want in the game, but I'm not saying who. |

Can I change my character from Iron Man to Doctor Doom? I figure the stats would be similar.

For GE, Iron Man is another ready made character we have available that is pretty cool.

Agreed about Iron Man being cool. He would have been my pick if he hadn't already been taken.

Eagle, hoops hasn't actually made Iceman yet, so if you want to switch and take Iron Man that wouldn't be a problem at all.

A minor change in the roster Talgian has been given the last reserved slot, so we are now really truly full at 25.

GE is now Juggernaut. Now waiting for a character from Talgian to set the final roster. Characters will probably be frozen tomorrow afternoon, so if you have had a last minute change of heart, let us know now.

Swaggs is now alternate 2.
No. PMs tomorrow night, then there will be a full day to ask questions, then roll on Wednesday. At least, I'm fairly certain that's the schedule hoops laid out for me before he left. |

Before the game goes I also plan to have a post highlighting key rules & rules differences, because this is going to be fairly complex.

Well, it took me a while to find a good fit (I'm mostly a DC guy), but Mister Sinister will be a most enjoyable character to play. Please form an orderly queue whilst I draw blood.

Antmeister is withdrawing from the game. Lathum will be taking his place. Lathum is free to make his own character choice.

I believe J. Michael Stryzinski (sp?) said that he went with Blur instead of Whizzer because of...well, you know. You could probably use the same template for Whizzer for Quicksilver as well. |

Well I think DC held the spot first, then gave it up to antmeister. So really, isnt the spot still hers to some extent? Im not trying to keep lathum out of the game, just noting DC originally signed up then gave her spot up for ant.
I dont know how Hoops and tyrith want to handle it though

Rightfully, I can't give it up to her because she wasn't on the alternate list. I have to play by the rules, even though you are probably right. That said, spleen offered his spot, so she can take that one if she likes. |

OK, sounds like there are a couple of roster updates to do here.
Flights back from Vegas got pushed way back because of weather, so I'm running a day behind here. Which means that roles will be sent out Wednesday night with Day 1 beginning that evening and a deadline Thursday at 10 PM EST. |

Also, I'll catch up with Dodgerchick and Grammaticus about the final spot tomorrow to get that nailed down, since Lathum is deferring.
Thanks to Tyrith for keeping things moving along on this while I was out. Vegas was good |
