There are 5 divisions in the US, so you're in the next to last division, I'd say most people get teams in division 5. There are not positions per se. Rather, players have specific abilities, and it is up to you to determine by these abilities where each person should play. There seems to be a pretty good run down of this in the about link, but I didn't look at it but for a second. Basically, try to find players with certain abilities that look to go well with certain positions (i.e. defending, wing, and stamina for the wing; defending, passing and stamina for the center d) Hope that helps. edit: Matches are played around 8 pm eastern (5 pacific I guess) on Sundays and Wednesdays I think. Lineups 15 minutes prior for each. Last edited by Easy Mac : 02-23-2003 at 10:44 PM. |

You freaks and your 4-5-1's.
Run and Shoot is where it's at, boys. Defense is for wimps. edit: And as proof of the power of the 3-5-2 run and shoot, 2 of my players are tied for the top scorers in the series, and I have another on the top 10 list. Goal differential of 40-32. Yessir, just keep the ball away from my defensive front and we rock. Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 02-23-2003 at 10:49 PM. |

Chief since you have an idea of positions from CM I would download this:
http://www.lokesoftware.dk/osr/hattrick/ham/index.htm Its Hattrick Assistant Manager, it will download your team file and label your guys in their best position. I would also strongly recommend reading this page. There is a ton of info in there. http://www.databased.at/hattrick/index.asp

I was thinking that we should try and raise the power of FOFC in hattrick by getting all the current teams to supporter status and build our fed.
None of us are high now, but imagine the possibilites when we develop our teams to that level. What if the FOFC fed had 50 supporters? Just a thought. Albeit a cool idea.

Well to be perfectly honest, 99.9% of all discussion goes on in this board. The goal when ardent and I formed the fed was to get people in a more familiar surrounding and we tossed the idea back and forth about having a tournament. We didnt even know if we could pull the first one off.
Next season will be massive as we have 50+ teams on the list so a change in format to group play may be a necessity for the Cup. I have to ponder that pretty quickly. Easy Mac, yeah but you dont have to be a supporter to play in the FOFC Cup or consolation rounds or anything. Just in perspective, the lowest fed on the top-15 has 200-something members. I never dreamed we would be hitting 20 members by now.

You know whats expensive? Playing Sporting News Strat O Matic Online. Its a great game and a lot of fun. I fact I spent a lot of last summer playing it but at $25 per team, with a season lasting just a few weeks I am glad I have found some other equally entertaing and much easier on the pocketbook games. See my sig.

Those were the days, huh, Horned? It certainly didn't look like hattrick would get off the ground at first. Not that we cared...we liked hattrick anyway! Horned, you can email me the ideas if you'd like. We'll definitely have to group it up next year I'm afraid. Yuck I hate group play. Single elimination...ya da ya da ya da 352...451...yeah I know...we never agree! Easy, we had talked about just fed members...but we wanted everyone at fofc to have the opportunity to play. I don't want to exclude anyone (like you, for example) that can't afford supporter. What's the fun in that?

DOn't worry, eventually I was going to either do the supporter thing or the HAM reg. But I haven't really used HAM in a couple days, and I'd rather have a logo.

Question for the Hattrick Vets...
Which of these 2 keepers should I start? Fernandez was the listed keeper when i got the team, but in his first game her gave up 6 goals .
Quote:

They are both poor in goaltending...should I start Moore who is younger, and rated the same, or should I start Fernandez who is older has more experience, but gave up 6 goals...Should I get rid of the guy who is not going to start for me? And lastly Fernandez has [Technical] next to his information when I look at my players, what does this mean? Also, is anyone up for a friendly this week, my team # is 72080. |

Passable is quite expensive to start, even if you were in a crunch, an inadequate goalie maybe better suited. Could be a 75000 price diff. I have been winning with one, in fact he just improved to passable.
I have one for sale on the transfer market now.. Peter Hastings 113 000 US$, 21 years, passable form Has disastrous experience and wretched leadership abilities Stamina: wretched Keeper: inadequate Playmaking: disastrous Passing: disastrous Winger: disastrous Defending: disastrous Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: weak Currently going for 26000, ends in about 10 hrs. I think most passable goalies will go near 100000, though you may find one a little cheaper. I also agree you will need to work toward a better keeper if you want your team to improve.

I picked up a passable keeper (21yo) with passable form for $115,000 a couple of weeks ago. Inadequate keepers usually run $25-35,000. I'd spend the money to get at least 1 inad. keeper.
In other news, I just got a passable coach with 1 try. I'm a lucky SOB. Edit: wrong keeper age

Thanks for all the help guys, I am going after a passable and an inadequate keeper...right now the passable is less but his price will probably skyrocket so I will more than likely try to get the inadiquate guy. I got a passable coach with my first try also, this morning i saw my coach was poor so i fired him and luckly got a passable guy. |

I'm thinking about changing my coach as he's wretched with poor leadership. But right now my team is composed and has strong confidence. Should I get the better coach and take a hit in confidence and spirit, or should I ride this one out until the stuff goes down.

Would you guys say this coach is OK?
Lloyd Elrod (8486894) 34 years, disastrous form, healthy A inadequate coach who goes all out A pleasant guy who is temperamental and honest. Has excellent experience and passable leadership abilities Now everytime I look at him I'm going to be thinking of Lord Elron for some reason... then it will lead me to the Matrix... Two more types of coaches are better....
Passable coach that goes all out Solid Coach that goes all out. It's up to you to determine if you want to go further. Since you're just beginning...you may not want to fork any more money over.

Elrod looks like he should be able to get the job done for you, at least for the time being. While only an inadequate coach, he's got good experience and leadership abilities, as well as a pretty good personality.
I'd say keep him for the time being. Wait until you have a season or two under your belt (and are hopefully in Division IV) before going for another one.

How much should I start off spending right away? Currently I have bought 2 very cheap guys ($1,000 & $2,000) and 1 expensive (atleast to me) keeper for $28,000. This is my first week with the team and I don't want to put them into debt right away...So how much money should I devote to trying to find some good players for my roster? Edit: What would you guys suggest I do with this guy: Lou Lynch 145 000 US$, 28 years, inadequate form Has wretched experience and solid leadership abilities Stamina: weak Keeper: wretched Playmaking: inadequate Passing: passable Winger: wretched Defending: passable Scoring: passable Set Pieces: poor He is passable in defending, passing, and scoring...I am thinking I will be running the 4-5-1 since my coach likes a defensive game, should I use him as a mid-fielder? I'd play him as a midfielder, depending on the rest of your team. If you have a lot of playmakers on your team, he'd also make a good choice for an offensive central defender.
And, as for how much to spend... Don't get 350,000 in debt like I am right now. 'Nuff said. |

Doug5984: Like Coffee Warlord mentioned, it depends on what other sorts of players you have. Lou looks like he'd be best played at either forward or defender. If you have a better option at one of those positions, then consider playing him at the other one.
I do see one problem with having Lou on your team, however. I see that he has the highest leadership rating on your club, which means that he is automatically the team "clown." This means that he is sort of the "locker room leader" of the team. Combine that with his "nasty" personality, and he may have a detrimental affect on your team's spirit and confidence. Now, having said that, don't run right out and sell him. He's the most highly valued player on your team, and has some talent. Just be aware of the fact that he may be having detrimental "side-effects."
