With 2.10 I'm going to take the Beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show on Feb 9, 1964. Certainly not a counter to the American Centric charge, but a famous moment in television history, with-out a doubt. Perhaps the most famous moment for the best band in English speaking history. I'm going to put in Television for the time being.
I need to think for a few minutes on 3.1 as I'd hoped to nab Caesar here. |

Ok I'm going to go with a slight (ok total) stretch pick here, but I'd really had my heart set on Caesar and I'm worried about finding anything of substance in this category later on.
With pick 3.1 I'm going to pick November 12, 1955 at precisely 10:04 PM. Everyone knows that lightening strikes the clock tower at that moment allowing Marty McFly to return to 1985 safe and sound. Quite frankly beyond Caesar being killed I can't think of any dates associated with fiction and this seems like a solid one in a tough category. |

The Beatles were my second choice for TV but I went instead with the most watched TV event.
I love the Back to the Future pick, far better than something (Caeser) that only a few would know. |

Nice. Actually what the intent was. A purely fictional event on a date.

One of the most destructive events in American History. About 3,000 people died, and between half and three-quarters of the city's population were rendered homeless.
3.2: Natural Disaster - April 18, 1906 - San Francisco Earthquake of 1906.

DAGNABBIT. That was going to MY pick. That is the most famous natural disaster in US history, along with Katrina for those with short memories. Damn.

I like the San Francisco pick a lot. It was definitely the #1 pick on my draft board at that position (though I'd forgotten about Viscivious).

This might be a bit early but fictional dates seem to be a thinner category. This date is now celebrated throughout the world as Bloomsday...

obviously it will drop me down then.
The Book Ulysses by James Joyce tells of Leopold Blooms travels through Dublin on June 16 1904. It sorta follows the Homer story of Odesseuss |

3.4 - November 9, 1989 - The fall of the Berlin Wall (politics)
I think everyone who's old enough remembers watching the aftermath on television. The part of the story that not everybody knows is that this monumental event in history was basically an accident. German officials had decided to ease some of the restrictions on travel, but the official who made the public announcement had just returned from vacation and wasn't clear on the details. He was handed a note before his press conference with incomplete information and the day's date on it. He read it out loud on live TV without fully understanding what it would mean. Tens of thousands heard the announcement and flooded the wall, nobody would authorize the guards to use force, and the checkpoints opened. The rest was, literally, history.

3.5 - December 28th, 1958 - Baltimore 23, New York 17 (OT) - NFL Championship Game (Television Moment)
This obviously could go in the sports category as well, but the tie-in to television is critical to the lore behind this game. As a television event, this game was televised nationally, a rarity at the time. The game was also the first sudden death overtime game ever in the NFL. This game is dubbed "The Greatest Game Ever Played" and is seen as the launching point of the NFL towards the incredible popularity that it has now, and the incredible television viewing event that every Sunday in the fall and winter has become. This game doesn't have nearly the significance in NFL lore without Television. |

3.9 - (birthday/death) June 10 323 BC, Alexander the Great dies. By the time of his death, Alexander the Great had conquered most of the known world.
(On a side note, I really wanted the Magna Carta signing to be my political event but, it was blocked)

3.10 - Politics: Nov. 19, 1863. The Gettysburg Address. One of the most quoted speeches in United States history, and Abraham Lincoln's most famous speech. "Four score and seven years ago..."
4.1 will have to take me some more time to think about...

4.1 Television: March 21, 1980, Who Shot JR? In a stroke of brilliance, the CBS show Dallas ended its season with a major cliffhanger, who shot JR Ewing? This one event ushered in the practice of ending seasons with cliffhangers to hang on to viewership. This remains as the single most watched non-series-ending episode of any TV series in the entire world.
To quote Wikipedia regarding the worldwide reach of the event: During the summer of 1980, the question "Who shot J.R.?" was asked in everyday conversations across America and worldwide. T-shirts printed with such references as "Who Shot J.R.?" and "I Shot J.R.!" became common over the summer. Betting parlors worldwide took bets as to which one of the 10 or so principal characters had actually pulled the trigger. A session of the Turkish parliament was suspended to allow legislators a chance to get home in time to view the Dallas episode.
