it sounds like the World Cup is being attacked by bees!

But how did he miss that sitter in front!

Uruguay with 3 in the back, donīt see that much theese days. Interesting considering Ribery on the flanks, although the outside midfielders play way back at times.

i actually donīt mind the sound much ...

I still don't know how the FIFA defends it as a musical instrument. It's a plastic tube.

Weird, I don't associate that sound with bees, but yes that's what it is and yes, it's uber-annoying.

Sucks, was lookng forward to the WC but mute may be the only choice. Who the hell would go to a game to blow a freaking horn the entire time? Who in their right mind would even want to go to a game where that is constant?

At least it stops briefly when they vocallize a reaction to something. We just need to see games with a lot of action near the goal to keep that annoyance down.

Mute is always my first choice for any sports on TV; I really hate TV commentators. Sadly, for radio coverage, it's not an option.

Pretty shitty option for someone like me who is trying to learn about the game tactic-wise and many of the non-star players. And with ESPNs investment in this hoping that it will pay off with the future coverage of the sport, I'm probably the prime target.

I bet it does. I'm sticking through it today because it is day #1 and a friday with some easy tasks. But next week when I really need to concentrate I would have liked to have the sound on and just pay attention when something important happens, but those bees drive me to distraction and I just can't see myself putting up with it to listen to a random game I have no rooting interest in.

You'll get used to the bees. After a week, you'll stop hearing them and wonder what the fuss was all about.

P.S. Go Uruguay. I've been having a lot of trouble deciding who to cheer for besides the US. I feel like I could go a lot of different ways, but in this game vs. France, I'm pulling for Uruguay.

I'm about in the same spot. Ireland is out, England is in our group... maybe the Socceroos?

Watching it on mute is really weird, but I can't stand that fucking horn. What kind of simpleton sits in a stadium and blows a plastic horn for 2 hours?

it faded into the background after a while. I don't see his first yellow on the ESPN feed either, that's weird.

It really makes no sense. It doesn't bother me as much as some, but really, I can't see myself sitting at a game and just constantly blowing a fucking horn.

And do these people really think it is cool?

South Africans? I would be embarrassed if I was South Africa. That's the best the fans/supporters could do and they got the world watching them host it?

Had Ireland made it, we should have been screaming about their game winning hands goal in the qualifying campaign.

That said, I too saw the irony of Henry's hands claim.

Unimpressive performance from Uruguay and France. Typical first group match for the French, actually.

Unfortunately a pretty dull second game... but a draw was far more likely after the first game ended in a draw.

Alright, now that day one is out of the way, we can get on to the real business, USA v. England.

I have high hopes, but I still can't get that egg we laid against the Czech's in 2006 out of my head. Those nightmare's just don't go away that fast.

I would feel much better about this if we had Davies, watching highlights of the Spain game last year it struck me just important of a cog he was, and I already had a man crush on him from his time in Scandinavia.

South Korea - Greece about to start. Itīs 1.30 PM here, so no getting up early required

Greece with 2 real strikers which is super surprising considering their coach and recent history.

Hope Sout Korea wins !!

South Korea looked good in the first half. 1-0 up and they had a chance to make it 2-0 but their #10 couldn't finish 1v1 on the keeper and perhaps they should have been awarded a PK earlier.

definitely, but that was to be expected unfortunately ... Donīt get why they donīt have people line up outside and when after 20 minutes theres a lot of empty seats just let them in to fill it up.

The korean No10 really can play, great jumping ability, fast and also very good on the ball and finding his teammates.

Just love that team, they play really good soccer.

Plus they seem miles ahead of greece in terms of fitness and athletic abilities, donīt see them letting up anytime soon.

EDIT : Wow, what a goal by Ji-Sung Park !

Great goal, taking the loose ball, dribbling past two Greeks then beating the keeper.

Great goal but a horrible giveaway by the Greeks.

Did the tone of the game change after Korea scored the 2nd goal? I turned it on in the 65th minute or so and it seemed like Greece was the one constantly attacking. Korea had some moves, but I assume that by then they'd pulled back by then...

Greece looked like they were whining a lot about calls. Didn't see too many calls I disagreed with, though.

Yeah well, in the case today all they had to do is give away spare tickets as it wasnīt even officially sold out apparently acording to the anouncement (unlike Uruguay-FRance where legit ticket holders apparently didnīt show up).
Just give them out in schools or give them away f.e. to workers in the harbour and stuff like that if you want to avoid the risk.

The german team f.e. bought tickets each game to give out to schoolchildren, no reason FIFA canīt do the same thing.

Plus i donīt literally mean "line up". Heck, thereīs tons of people around the stadiums anyway.

yeah, it did change. But even then it was like a 10 minute stretch where greece had a handfull of good scenes, after they 80th korea had it well under controll again.
